Terriffic, readable book!
This book will go a long way in defeating the arguments of those who would take away our right to self-defense.

Finally, the truth is told about guns.
Wayne LaPierre gives convincing arguments against the falacies of the gun control doctrine, and backs it up with highly credible references. I recommend this book for anybody sitting on the fence over the gun control issue. Climb down, read the book, and discover your rights as a United States citizen.

LaPierre's Best Effort Yet
Wayne LaPierre has never been more on the mark or insightful in Guns, Freedom and Terrorism, and he doesn't bog us down with a 300 page pro-gun sermon like a lot of the books in the same field. The writing is sharp, to the point, and fresh (this book's not a sequel to Guns, Crime, and Freedom, by the way) and it's structured very well. Other Second Amendment writers lose a lot of their steam by pouring on too much of the their own hype. It gets boring. But LaPeirre, in each chapter, hits each nail on the head, then moves right on to the next point. Another thing that sets this book apart is the way it reveals how politics and the media are very stealthily trying to make us think that what the Founding Fathers wrote in the Second Amendment doesn't apply anymore. LaPierre's answer makes these politicians and media magnates look ridiculous in what they want us to believe. This book made me think a lot about our Constitutional right to bears arms, what that means today, and what it may or may not mean in the future.

How to Build Your Home & Save Thousands
Published in Paperback by Village Development Corp of Destin (1999)
Authors: Beverly Grisham and Wayne Clark
Amazon base price: $9.95

Easy to read and helpful
This book is most helpful. For someone who is thinking of building a house with little building experience. The disc which comes with the book has cost breakdown and gives the first time builder a good foundation as what to expect, cost wise. The examples of contracts are also most helpful for plumbing, foundation, framing, etc. Would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of building their own home. Well worth the money.

VERY HELPFUL
I wish I'd had this book the first time we built a home; it would have saved much money and headaches dealing with things we didn't know about. We went way over budget on the first one somehow, now I'm prepared to tackle it again with confidence, thanks to this guide.

Things they didn't teach me on "This Old House".
If you or any one you know plans to build a home, this booklet is invaluable. It decribes how to organize your project, cover your liabilities, avoid pit falls and think ahead. It goes step-by-step through the entire process. Not only does it tell you how things should be done but why. There are an incredible number of ways costs can be inflated on a job that are virtually invisible unless you know better. It's not an exaggeration to say that thirty minutes spent reading this book can save you thousands of dollars and lots of headaches. It's straight-forward and very candid from contractors who have years of experience in the business. The sample contracts, alone, make it worth the price. It's a great way to find out what to expect BEFORE you start building and how to turn simple ideas into huge savings.

Very helpful!
I am just starting out as a model and I had so many questions. Is modeling for you? was the perfect find. It gave me insight into the modeling business and helped me to understand the steps that are necessary to succeed. I feel much more conffident now that I have read this book. Every aspiring model should read it.

Tells you things other modeling guides don't, like...
The fact that the majority of today's sucessful black models started at black agencies, and there's a listing of them in this book. It was helpful, but if you're already established as a model, it may seem redundant.

a great book for all models
i recommend this book, because it gave me all the information i needed to get started in a modeling career.

A Review by Michelle Liu, Class 5-506
I have enjoyed this book because it teaches everyone to work harder. Katie is a girl in Jody's gymnastics class. One day, Coach Jody announces that her class is going on the balance beam. Her friends are very, very excited, but Katie is scared. Katie hates to do anything backwards (She reminds me of my friend who hates swimming). I did not like it when Katie wasn't working too hard, but I felt happy for her when she wanted to try the backover move.

Sometimes, Katie thinks about quitting gymnastics, but her friends always try to help her get better and better. My favorite part is when Katie has enough courage to try the beam. Lila Hanks, an older gymnast, also helps Katie practice because she is excellent at gymnastics. Katie tells Lila about what happened and why she wants to quit gymnastics. After that, Lila tells Katie a secret...???

Sometimes, I wonder why Katie would want to quit since gymnastics seems so fun to do. I think Katie is a very smart character and could do the backflip, but she's just terrified. If she's not scared or nervous, then I know she'll make it. Katie is my favorite third-grader and gymnast of all of the Junior Gymnast series books. After reading this book, I feel like I have a lot more courage to do everything and anything (and not feel scared). I feel braver, not frightened. This book gave me this feeling that everything will turn out great. All you need is just some courage. Plenty of it!!

This is a great book for girls with dreams. Will Katie ever learn how to get over her fear of backward flips or will she have to quit? Read the book and find out!

Katie's Big Move
I read this book with a student that I tutor who enjoys gynmastics. This book was perfect for for her because it was written at an appropriate age and gradelevel and it was a good story for her to relate to. This book is highly reccomneded for those who love gymnastics.

a good book for gymnasts with fears!
This is a good book fo r a gymnast with a fear! In this book it tells how katie got over the fear of doing a back walkover on the beam! So go on read it!

It's That good
Well I finally got a copy of the book and didn't get a chance to read it until I got home late the other night after being out at a club. I took it into the Batroom with me and didn't come out until Nine Chapters had been read. It was that good.
Seriously, Wayne Captures the whole essence of friendships of all sorts. And like the previous review says, if you know your Arthurian Legends, you'll start figuring out whose who. I wasn't sure about Tommy at first but then I saw his last name. I'm still only half way through the book but I'm sure I'll be awed as much at the end as I have through it so far.

Long live the king!!
Wow! Is this book ever good! If you're a fan of Harper Lee, Stephen King and Sir Thomas Malory (or T.H. White), then you'll love "King of Summer". Wayne Wise has written a completely original novel using the Arthurian themes as a guide and crafted a magical, frightening, suspenseful and heartwarming story. It would be easy to sum up the book with one sentence: that love and friendship can conquer the most hideous of evils, but that would do a disservice to the rich story and characters. Each character is fleshed out three dimensionally and evolves over the course of the story through trial and error. Each has their own good and bad qualities and the line between both blurs throughout the book, yet each character maintains their role in the context of the story. "King of Summer" made me feel nostalgic for my own childhood, when adventures of epic proportions took place in the woods behind my own house. But it is not for the faint of heart. In portraying evil, Wayne doesn't simply tell you how evil the antagonist of the book is. Instead you are shown its ugliness and brutality through several of the characters. But you are also shown the beauty and love that all can aspire to as well. It's hard to talk about "King of Summer" without talking about the characters themselves, but I don't want to give too much away. Suffice to say, Vivian became my favorite. Set in the town of Appleton, Wayne manages to describe the town throughout the course of the story without sounding like a AAA representative and it becomes so vivid and real that you can swear you've driven through it at one time or another. As I approached the end of the book, I found myself really sad that I was coming to the end! I didn't want to leave Appleton or the kids, they had become so real. The trouble is, the book is extremely addictive! I read it to the exclusion of all else and couldn't put it down. Sometimes while reading other books, I may get tired or bored with what I'm reading. I had no chance with "King of Summer"! The pace is crisp and Wayne always gives you just enough in each chapter to make you want to turn the page and find out what's going to happen next. I hope that someday "King of Summer" is made into a movie. If so, I'll be there opening day, first in line!

Definitely the King
King of Summer has an atmosphere reminiscent of "To Kill A Mockingbird." The author--who I do know and consider a friend--captures the authentic voices of children. Too often an author will treat kids like idiots or as supreme intellects, but Wayne Wise accurately shows the strengths and weaknesses of youth amid a dark fantasy bearing Arthurian themes and an original twist on the ancient battle of good vs. evil.

In terms of technique, the book is smoothly written with a pace that flows. He relates the novel he was driven to write through vivid description and carefully crafted characters whose names even possess meaning. In short, brilliant.

High Quality Horse Racing Publication
Of the 20+ horse racing books I have read in the last five years, Lightning in a Jar was a stand-out. The book provides an excellent overview of the horse breeding process leading to a racing career. The book gives some insight to the horse syndication process. If you are looking to purchase a horse or understand the horse breeding process, I highly recommend this book.

Unlike so many other horse racing books, there is not a lot of fill. There are a lot of high quality color pictures which were meaningful to the flow of the book. The quality of the paper the book is printed on was high as well. The book is an easy-to-read factual account of the history of Dogwood Stables. Several of the horses syndicated by Dogwood are discussed along with the trials and tribulations of the owner, Cot Campbell. Strong Buy!

Lightning In A Jar
EXCELLENT! I loved it so much I am reading it again. Lots of information that is plesently put together. Great read for anyone interested in horse racing.

One for the WINNWER'S CIRCLE
"Lightning in a Jar" is a wonderful mixture of passion and infomation. It captures all the excitement, tension, magic and mystery of thoroughbred horse racing along with giving you a basic course in horse management. Cot Campbell, a former advertising executive, shares his personal journey and he is a real horseman, good trainer and peppery writer.I got involved with the thrills and disappointments of racing and wondered if I had the temperament (never mind the money) that Campbell says is essential for the "stretch run." Its a riveting book and the fine photos give an extra bonus.

Word of caution
This book covers many great topics but is geared primarily towards an adult audience!

THESE DRAMAS TOUCHED ME AND MY CHURCH
I want people to know how much these dramas have touched my church group. We are greatly pleased with them. Does anyone know if he has more out there? He is probably the best we've read.

POIGNANT, CRISP AND FUNNY SUNDAY DRAMAS
These are the best dramas I have used. They seem to hit the topic right between the eyes while doing it with a bit of a tongue in cheek. Buy it, buy it, buy it and save your church some of the agony of poorly written dramas.

Magnificent!
Wayne Mutza has written the definitive work on the airplane that defined land-based Long-Range Maritime Patrol (LRMP) aircraft in the years following WWII.

The author begins with Lockheed's original proposal, and follows the Neptune through a comprehensive history of every major and minor variation through the Vietnam War. My memory is a little different in a few places - I recall the "big" tip tanks holding 350 gallons each and the "small" ones 275 - but that's all 35 years ago, and a P-2 wingtip is a lonely place...[and so much for memory - the P2V-5 pilot's handbook has the small tanks at 200 gal.]

I would have liked to see more on the Neptune in Reserve service, but that's only my personal perspective, and certainly doesn't change the story of the airplane itself.

Don't know what it is about Schiffer's books but like David Reade's P-3 Orion Book, Mutza's work also lacks an index - somewhat compensated for by the 11 Appendices.

~500 hr USNR Aircrewman (FCO) P2V-4, P2V-5FS, P2V-6 (1962-1966) + 2 flights OP-2E 1968.

Review of Lockheed P2V Neptune: An Illustrated History
Mr. Mutza deserves a standing ovation for his outstanding publication on the P2 Neptune aircraft family. As a former crewman on SP-2E/H aircraft I found his discussion of this aircraft most thorough, quite competent and absolutely entertaining. Well Done!

The Venerable P2 Neptune
Wayne Mutza has created a fully illustrated history of the venerable Lockheed P2 Neptune that is a MUST READ for any military aviation affectionado. I amassed over 2500 crew hours in the Neptune over a ten year period, including night combat operations in the only NP-2H, and could hardly put his coverage of the seven models of the P2 and their numerous variations down, I just had to finish it! The color illustrations and photographs are superbly annotated with accurate, detailed captions of the Neptune's 55-year history including perhaps the most famous Neptune, the "Truculent Turtle". Several P2V-7's are still flying today in their roll as a "fire-bomber"! If you want the complete story of the Neptune, this is the book for you!

Entertaining and Pure Minnesota
The combination of poetry and photography make this book appealing for a variety of readers. The photography is especially humorous, for ex., a piece called "Second Service" pictures a chapel half full of hay. The poetry is entertaining and classic Minnesotan, covering fishing, Norwegian humor, landscape, and of course, climate.

Wonderful poetry and marvelous photography
These poems and the accompanying photos bring back memories of summer vacations spent visiting relatives in northern Minnesota. Word scultures, along with visual portraits of life "up North" will make this an enjoyable read for you. If you liked the movie "Grouchy Old Men", you will love this book. Anyone with a small town experience will chuckle at the poignant humor and sigh at half forgotten memories remembered. I bought three more copies to share with friends and family.

Minnesota described as well as any array of literature can.
I lived in Minnesota for 11 years. While working on the Eastern Coast of the United States for a while I happened to find myself in a rather large bookstore in mid-town Manhattan on one of my weekends off. Upon browsing for nothing in particular, I happened upon the book Minnesota Gothic. I brought it home and read through it all in one evening (it's not big at all). Upon completion, I realized how much I missed Minnesota. The poems are simple yet heartwarming, and fun to read while the accompanying pictures add more clarity to the uniqueness of the authors' Minnesota. The authors caught the spirit of that state as well as anyone could, including the likes of the more well known Garrison Keilor. The book is Minnesota, and anyone "from here" or the upper mid-west will easily identify with it and simply enjoy it.
