Mercedes Lackey does it again.
This is absolutely the best of the SERRAted Edge novels, and works excellently as a stand-alone as well. Great characters, great development, great surprises, great magic, great humor, great adventure, great dragons, great mages, great ending. The only thing missing was the elves! AND--this is a miracle for contemporary (or even not-so-contemporary) fantasy--there are no overdone gratuitous sex scenes! The entire book is great. I want a sequel--not because the story was unfinished, but because it was a cursed good read, and left the perfect openings for a good sequel.

Excellent!!!
This is my favorite of the Serrated books. It tied up a lot of loose ends, as well as creating new ones. Talk about great characters! If you've read the other Serrated books, you need to read this one. Was I the only one to catch that mention of Deke Kestrel? Or am I the only one who has also read the Diana Tregarde books? Anyway, this book is a wonderful additon to your library. And if you've already read all the Serrated books, try the Diana Tregarde ones. They are just as good.

I loved this book.
I loved this book--it's what got me so interested in Mercedes Lackey. Even if you haven't read the other SERRAted edge novels, get this book. I'm loving it!

Exceptional Writing Effort
In my opinion, this is simply a first class story written by an extremely gifted writer. If you have any interest in reading about Vietnam, about war in general, about men in extraordinary conditions you should enjoy this novel. I was sorry to finish it and look forward to reading more work by the author.

Close Quarters... One of the 10 great books about Vietnam...
I first read Mr. Heinemann's 'Close Quarters' in 1975, while on active duty with the USAF. It grabbed me by the throat with its first paragraph and didn't let go until the last sentence. The language, mood, and sense of no time but the present are dead on. From the hero's entrance as a 'Cherry' or 'FNG' to the time he's 'Short'. The story rolls like a tank and doesn't slow down. The one chapter dedicated to the New Year's Eve attack on Deadeye's firebase is one of the finest, most descriptive and detailed ever put to paper. Keeping up tension with each frightful second. Few writers have this ability. And though I've never experienced one, I experienced viscerally the chaos, tension, and stink of fear that a 'No S**t Firefight' encomapsses. I've many friends who went to South East Asia and can easily understand their reluctance to speak about their time there. I am forever grateful that Mr. Heinemann did. The stink, the heat and humidity, the fear and helplessness are all there. Wrapped in the confines of a fire base or M-113 APC. Martin Scorcese should do this as a film, since the screenplay would be the book and reader would become one of the the team. With Deadeye, Dewey, Whiskey J, Quinn, and the Lt. A voyeur, overhearing flawless, raw, pure from the gut dialog. Few books have such power. John Del Vecchio's '13th Valley', Dale A. Dye's 'Run Between the Raindrops', James Webb's 'Fields of Fire', and Gus Hasford's "Short Timers' are close. This is the real deal! Science fiction writer David Drake could take lessons from Mr. Heinemann, since they shared the same MOS. Infinitely readable. And re-readable. If you know anyone who experienced the war in Vietnam, or any war; buy and read this book! It might give you an idea of where that person is coming from.

This book grabs you by the balls and defies you to drop it
As an Englishman of 53 I did not serve in the US Military but was offered a position it that company when I was given the chance to work in the States back in the 60s. A few weeks after I had been to the US Embassy in London to discuss matters (such as time off US Military service for time already spent in the UK Reserve forces) I met the girl who became my wife and history (mine and Americas') was changed forever. When I went to The Vietnam Memorial in Washington with my wife and eledest girl, I stood there with tears in my eyes, thinking of what might have been. My daughter got hold of a copy of 'Close Quarters' (she is an English Teacher in a Secondary school) and I have just finished reading it...or should I say..experiencing it...and once again I have tears in my eyes. God Bless you Larry..and God Bless all the Quinns who never made it back.

Parenting Issues for ..........
This is the first "Parenting"book I have read, that I understood. The author writes about real issues and real feelings. Listening to the success stories of "Father's in Prison"was inspirational to me. It made me reflect on my own parenting skills. It also made me reflect on my own inward type prison. I felt like I was being set free of feelings of trust, barriers, awareness, hurt, respect, understanding, and spirituality. The author says very strongly that if we LISTEN, TALK, and SHARE with our children they will be OKAY.

Important stuff.
Larry Wolfgang draws from his personal experiences to give us a glimpse into a world few can fully understand - the life of the imprisoned father. With pain and compassion woven throughout, the author points the way to establishing and maintaining our most important relationships. Whether behind bars of steel or those of fear and failure, fathers on both sides of the wall can benefit from Mr. Wolfgang's observations. Highly recommended!

Not only for father's in prison
An inspiring read that melts your heart. This book encourages you to evaluate your worth as a person and parent. It makes me want to give a legacy to my children that they will pass to their children. It will break down the bars to intamacy that fear creates. It allows us to love others and see their beauty.

Great Bible
The one and only King James Version. This Bible has everything that a growing child needs. There is the original text combined with easy to follow descriptions and explanations to help your child understand the ideas that are presented. There are special sections such as "Words to Remember", "Let's Live It", "Life in Bible Times", and trivia in the "Did You Know". This is a must have for yout child if you are concerned about what text your child is reading.

Great Bible for Kids
I am a children's pastor and I highly reccommend this book. I use it for my lessons and also in class.

The New Adventure Bible
This Bible is great for young readers and will keep them going well in to High School. There are many graphics throughout this Bible and special interest comments that explain why people did things the way they did or why they wore a particular type of clothing. Our church gave this New Adventure Bible to all children graduating into the third grade. The NIV translation is pretty understandable to young readers. Each book has an introduction that is designed towards the young reader. There are also special pages to enhance a childs understanding: for example in addition to the actual text of the ten commandments - is a special page with pretty graphics that re-word the commandments in language for youth. A special page explains "How to pray" - another summarizes Old Testament Prophets, and yet another page called "Getting to know Jesus" helps kids understand what it means to be a Christian. Just like the 'grown up' Bible - this book is a Red Letter edition. My fifteen year old still loves this Bible.

Heartwarming
I have read several other books with the same theme, however this book surpasses them all. Our copy is well loved and our guests tend to migrate toward it at our home. The book contains the stories of several people and how dogs have touched their lives. It is a glimpse into personal collections of avid dog lovers and collectors.

All Dog Collectors must have this book!
I am an avid collector of dog memorabilia and motif items and this book was an inspiration! My husband just thought I was obsessive about dog objects! Your book gave me new ideas for old dog items that I never would have thought of. The photography is beautiful and the subjects are warm and true. I know that I am not alone in my endeavor to collect and display what I love!

A beautiful book for serious dog-lovers.
I've always had an affinity for dogs and the people who love them, which is probably why this book now occupies the premier spot on my coffee table. After reading the introduction by Larry Sheehan, in which he shares hilarious and endearing tales about his dog, Buster, I knew I'd found someone who truly understood what it means to live with and love dogs. Even bad ones. The book is a celebration of hardcore dog enthusiasm. It's fun to learn about other people's passion for various breeds. What's more, the pages are filled with pictures of beautiful dogs, beautiful homes, and beautiful places. I got tons of inspiration for decorating my home and incorporating my love of dogs into my life. This book would make a wonderful gift.

A Beautiful Memoir
What a beautiful memoir! The setting, a small town in central Canada, was almost exotic to me. The writing is poem-like, clean and meditative. With his gentle voice, Mr. O'Connor takes you to the world of the sensitive boy whose longing and wonder towards his mysterious father is so vividly felt. The beautiful images in the book will remain with me for a long time. I highly recommend this special work.

Two Paths in the North
I work with the author. So much for full disclosure. And I had been told by another colleague before I read it that his book was wonderful. I wasn't prepared, though, to be overwhelmed, and I was: by the richness of its style, the honesty of its emotion, the entertainment of its anecdote, the relief of its humor amid pain and personal discovery. O'Connor travels two paths in search of answers about the emotional chill in his childhood home in Canada and the strange allure of cold climes. This yields on one side beautifully drawn pictures of smalltown life in which O'Connor's growing self-awareness and his tracking of family history coalesce. On the other, its offers perfectly rendered vignettes and lore about famous explorers, plain life and survival in the frigid north. Sometimes the juxtaposition seems impossibly apt, yet never forced. Along each trail run themes in varying proportions of love and hurt, sacrifice and estrangement, distance and intimacy, ambition and constraint. Through it all runs a classically balanced voice, blunt and eloquent and wry in confronting simple or hard truths. There is finally and happily about the book a physical irony in which I regretted its ending so soon but relished the knowledge that I could always find time to return time and again to a book as modest in size as it is grand in reward.

Son looks to the north
O'Connor's beautiful language is as smooth as ice, as clean as fresh snow. This is a haunting, mysterious story of family secrets, which the author tells partly through direct memoir narrative and partly through metaphorical history and legend of the far north. I found the scenes of O'Connor's boyhood to be particularly well drawn: the ways in which he conjures child logic and perception are magical. Touching, strange, cathartic.

A Well Written, Sound Guide and a Delight to Read
As practicing Yoga therapist, perhaps my best recommendation is to note that I have spiral bound my own copy and some of the pages are becoming a bit dog-eared.

This is a well written, sound introductory guide to Yoga therapy, written by two of the Western leaders in this emerging discipline. The text has an elegant simplicity, reflecting years of experience. I especially appreciate the thoughtful allopathic medical advice and wise lifestyle counseling well integrated with the Yoga practices. I also appreciate the extensive resource guide and the many academic references. The book as a whole provides much insight for students, yoga teachers and other health care practitioners wanting to explore the many possibilities for Yoga for health and wellness as well as an alternative or complementary therapy.

As a teacher attempting to work with individuals as a whole, however, I remain somewhat uncomfortable with the connotations of the title of this book. Yoga therapy is not a set of mechanical prescriptions for common ailments. That sort of cookbook assumption does a disservice to the breadth of the discipline, the role of a teacher and the many dimensions to each student. The authors, of course, know this well. Larry Payne has done much pioneering work in Yoga therapy and in bridging this discipline to the allopathic medical community.

In my view, the practices in the book are more illustrative of general principles applied to specific individuals and situations at a point in time rather than prescriptions that can be easily generalized. In that sense, this book may be more appropriate for the experienced Yoga therapist who will be familiar with various caveats, alternative approaches and broader dimensions to Yoga practice.

For example, chronic lower back pain is probably the most common complaint brought to Yoga therapists. The practice suggested in the book should be helpful to many in "typical" situations and I have used it successfully with some of my own students. Few students are typical, however. For many students that particular sequence will be too strong, or too gentle or too long, or contains a contraindicated movement, such as the twist. In real life, many students will have other important health considerations besides unspecified lower back pain, e.g., a different limiting injury, excessive stiffness or flexibility, difficulty breathing, depression, perhaps even much experience in Yoga from another tradition, etc.

Many students will have, or will soon develop, other goals for practice besides pain relief. Increased physical & psychological strength and private spiritual support are two common, but much different aspects of Yoga practice that can be woven in or stimulated from therapeutic applications.

Finally, perhaps more than a technique, students may most need a relationship with a teacher who will see them as a whole, something they might not find in the conventional health care environment.

From those perspectives, there is no substitute for working with a well-trained and experienced therapist. Finding a qualified practitioner, however, may be difficult. This is common with many emerging CAM therapies, but perhaps especially acute in Yoga. There are no standards for Yoga therapists and few in-depth training programs.

An obvious companion to this book is Yoga for Wellness by Gary Kraftsow (from the same teaching lineage). Compare, for example, the much stronger sequence for working with the lower back in that book and the emphasis on case studies. Together, these two books provide a rich, complementary perspective on Yoga therapy.

For those interested in Yoga and complementary and alternative medicine, I recommend The Yoga of Healing by T. K. V. Desikachar and Dr. Arjun Rajabopalan. Also The Best Alternative Medicine by Dr. Kenneth Pelletier. For broader and deeper perspectives on Yoga from the same lineage, see The Heart of Yoga by Desikachar and Yoga for Body Breath and Mind by A. G. Mohan. Practicing or aspiring Yoga therapists should be subscribers, or course, to the International Journal of Yoga Therapy, co-founded by Larry many years ago.

Helps Bridge the Gap Between Yoga and Conventional Medicine
Yoga Rx is a user-friendly introduction to how Yoga Therapy adapts the practices of yoga to the needs of people with specific health problems. It is an important book for bridging the gap between yoga teachers, doctors and other health professionals. Both busy doctors and their patients will benefit tremendously from reading Yoga Rx. As a companion to this book, I recommend Yoga: the Path to Holistic Health, by B.K.S. Iyengar, which illustrates the use of props in therapeutic yoga programs.I highly recommend Yoga Rx to teachers of all traditions. 100 Sun Salutations to Larry Payne and Dr.Richard Usatine for writing this empowering book! Suza Francina, author, The New Yoga for People Over 50 and Yoga and the Wisdom of Menopause.

Professional, gentle approach to using yoga for anxiety
Yoga is a perfect remedy for anxiety. The book Yoga RX gives you the tools you need to improve your bodys reaction to stress.Everything is explained in a professional but clear manner and gives you simple breathing methods that are extremely helpful.Thank you for this great resource! Fall From Grace by Larry Collins
Larry Collins wrote "Is Paris Burning". At a dinner party a retired General told him he should research Operation Fortitude. From that research came his book "Fall from Grace." It is based upon the disinformation that was generated during Operation Overloard to make the Germans think that the Normandy Invasion would actually be 200 miles north at the Port of Calis.

The Nazis actually had enough tanks and army troops to Port of Calis to completely defeat the invading forces of the Allied armies. Because the Germans were so convinced that Normandy was only a diversion these tanks and troops were never committed to fighting the invading forces until it was too late. It is now thought that the English used double agents to let the Gestapo capture about 20 French resistance fighters who were in the Port of Calis area. These French were convinced that the invasion would take place in The Port of Calis. Under severe torture these agents finally broke and revealed the invasion plans that the British had fabricated. All of these agents were finally executed. The details of these betrayls were so repulsive to our Christian ideals that they were kept secret until 1980. The book that Mr. Collins made from this ordeal is absolutely spell binding. He has substituted a gorgeous and corageous American Girl of French ancestry to be the Spy who is broken by the Gestapo. The French spy is actually a double agent who, under British orders, has involved the Gestapo in his plans. When the British want to make the Germans believe that he is truly a Frenchman working for the Germans they order his execution. The best part is TF O'Neil who is the son of an Irish imigrant who is on the general staff of the USA. He has graduated from Yale and is told by General Marshall, before going to England, that America needs to fight with honor. So he is outraged when he learns that Catherine is sent into Occupied France not knowing that she is to be captured by the Gestapo and tortured to the brink of death. We are finally made aware of how Draconian our side was when she takes her Cyanide pill and then wakes up only to learn that it did not work.

Editorial review is a mismatch -- this is a WWII thriller!
...This book: FALL FROM GRACE by **Larry Collins** is a World War II spy thriller. It's the story of a female agent on the side of the allies and a male agent on the side of the Nazis and the relationship that develops between the two spies. This is a super spy thriller that grabs you by the seat of your pants and doesn't let go! A great book!

Christian Doctrine 101
If you are looking for an explanation of what Christians believe stated in language that anyone can understand, and clearly supported by biblical texts, then this is very likely the book you are looking for. Little writes especially for college students who are seeking to understand the Christian faith; not for professional theologians. His goal is to explain what is central to Christian teaching, that which unites all Christians, not that which divides Christians into different confessions. His gift is clarity and precision. I have used this book ever since it came out over twenty five years ago in teaching basic Christian doctrine in both a local church and college class setting. It is still my preference as an initiation to Christian Doctrine.

Simple elegance!
Paul Little's book, KNOW WHAT YOU BELIEVE, provides an apologetic of the Christian faith in simple, yet elegant terms. Little provided a straight forward approach to understanding the faith. It is an excellent resource for learning about the Christian faith and can be used as an evangelism tool - either through a pre-Christian reading it, or by providing a Chrsitian the skills to share the faith.

This book will enable the reader to draw near to God, as he or she learns about our Father, the glorious Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. A wonderful experience!

A Firm Foundation
If you are just beginning as a Christian, this book will help you to get a firm foundation for your faith. It helps you with your Biblical study of your new life. If you are a more mature Christian, this book helps you keep the simplicity of the Christian faith in mind. When you speak with people about our Lord, have this book readily available. It will not do the speaking for you, but will help you to express what the Bible says if you happen to need some help. And I have needed this type of help from time to time. If you are wanting to know what Christianity is about and don't want to go through the Bible yet or talk with a Christian, this book will help you to see what it is that we believe.

I had a hard time putting this book down. I keep saying that I would put it down after I finish "just this one part". It helped me to get back to the basics of my belief. I was able to read the Bible with fresh eyes again. A wonderful book to read and great resource to have. I expect that I will need to buy several copies between giving them out and wearing mine out.

I would recommend this book to anyone.

THIS BOOK IS INCREDIBLE
This book is awesome. It is written differently than most books, in the aspect that there are more conversations between the characters, they openly share their feelings and love for each other, like real life. It was very enjoyable to read a book that way. It is a goodhearted book that gives you such a good warm feeling inside,as well as faith and hope(considering what the subject of the book is about) The ending is amazing, you'll love it. Well worth buying and well worth your time reading it. I applaud the author.

What great book!
If your like me when reading a book, the first few pages have to grab your attention in order to finish the book.

THIS BOOK WILL GRAB YOU ON THE FIRST PAGE!!!

It is a must read for any one who loves to read!
I can see this book becoming a movie!

Night Prophecies
I couldn't and didn't put this one down until the end.
And the end! What an ending! It would make a great movie.
You can find strength, love and hope along with the chills.
The author captures your attention with his characters and makes you want to know what is coming at them (and you) next.
