A very unique idea !!!
This is truly an amazing cd. The author (Larry Meiners) interviews several of the world's most well known vintage guitar collectors and experts and poses some very interesting questions. The most fascinating is "Why is the vintage guitar market like a run-away train ?". It is amazing to hear some of the answers as to why 1958, 59 and 60 Les Paul Bursts have gone from $4500 in the early 1980's to well over $150,000 to $250,000. If you like vintage guitars of any kind, you need this CD. It is packed-full of great information.

Vintage Guitar Dealers Tell It All
What a unique idea. This interview CD is chock full of information. Larry interviews some of the nation's most respected guitar dealers who discuss many topics including the vintage market, where it started, where it's been, where they think it's going and instruments from different eras. Whether you are a guitar player, collector or investor, you will find yourself enjoying these interviews very much.

Insights on the Vintage Guitar Market
For the first time, a group of top Vintage Guitar Dealers are interviewed in detail on the the tremendous growth of this market. This is a slice of oral history with acknowledged experts in the field which will be of great interest for both guitarists and investors. Larry does a skillful job of asking the right questions about which instruments are leading this market, which are undervalued, and where the market in general is going. American guitars are part of our shared American culture, and this CD provides a great deal of information in a
concise and entertaining format. Highly Recommended!

A Helpful and Hopeful Book
I reviewed this book in the Annotated Bibliograpy of Learning A Living; A Guide to Planning Your Career and Finding a Job for People with Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder and Dyslexia. Here is what I wrote:

Through quotations from people with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder, this book describes the experience of having these disabilities and ways to cope with them. Includes information on dating, marriage, work, home, and friendship. The last chapter outlines a progressive agenda for improving the well-being of adults with learning disabilities.

This is a wonderful book!
As the parent of a 22 year old learning disabled daughter I can attest to the validiy of everything written in this book.

The format is easy to read and understand. I liked the paragraphs written by the author and then followed up by quotes from the interviewed adults. This book is not jargon filled and is a great resource for people with little knowledge about adults with learning disabilities as well as those who have spent many years in the field on learning disabilities.

What a great help this book will be to the general population in understanding the struggles of adults facing the difficult challenges learning disabilities impose on living a successful, joyfilled life.

Every employer should have this book as a resource.

A guideline and a necessity of us the majority without LD.
It is for a layperson like myself - as well as the professional person - a very good and rewarding book to read. I learned a lot from what I read - and wanted to continue - because it is not too technical - well, there is some chapters of defining the terms and the framework to relate to. However it never takes over - and there is so much LOVE and CARE in her work. I like the brilliant way in which the author brings in the voices and experiences of 13 individuals.

What struck me most was that the skills used by the individuals in meeting the challenge of LD could be a guideline and a necessity of us the majority without LD to incorporate. So I shall read it again.

Take an Adventure with your child
My two-and-a-half year old daughter Rachel and I can't wait for the next Billy adventure...because we're having so much fun reading this one over and over. Billy traverses a forest full of wild animals, rockets to outerspace to haul the moon in for a repair, and travels to the Caves of Argo in search of treasures--all from the safety of his own backyard, basement and kitchen. Billy's imagination is rich with ideas...and the illustrations in the book reflect this. The illustrations have great color and are a visual expansion of the text...not just a literal reflection of it. It is such a joy to watch Rachel make new discoveries, or come up with her own ideas for Billy. It is one of the most interactive, stimulating books we have.

My Favorite Book
Approximately two months ago I gave a copy of The Moon Adventure to a co-worker for her 2 1/2 year old daughter. Now whenever "Mom" asks what book Fallon wants her to read to her, the reply is "my favorite book...The Moon Adventure"

Very creative!
Billy Books is a kid with a "wild" imagination. Fromthe first page, when Billy is camping out in his back yard, andimagines all kinds of animals lurking about, you are propelled into Bill's world! The moon disappears behind the clouds and he imagines that the "light bulb" has burned out. It's up to him to fix it! The book is very well written, and beautifully illustrated. My 4 year old girl really enjoys it. It's written in a way that makes it very exciting to read and to listen to. The pictures are very detailed, and capture the eye immediately. The book also has some lines in it the parents will enjoy too. I look forward to the next "Billy Books" adventure!

A movement and a rest

A MUST READ!
There are so many different ways to explain the forces that power and regulate the way we, as human beings interact and feel about ourselves. Larry Underwood has taken a new approach (not new to us engeneers) and applied it in simple lay terms, to give a clear picture of how both positive and negative forces can be used to either help, or allowed to hinder us in our search for personal/societal growth and understanding. You cannot read this book without coming away with new tools to deal with life's constant eb and flow of good and bad. Well done Larry Underwood!

What if you took the scissors out of "rock/paper/scissors"?
The law states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. And the physical forces in our world act to balance each other out over time -- that's why we have weather, why the inside of the fridge warms up when you leave the door open, and why there is such a thing as erosion. It's all driven by the process of various forces acting on an object of interest to gradually attain equilibrium. === While this is generally taken to apply strictly to the laws of physics, might it also apply to things less physical, like human behavior and society? The author has taken such an approach and argues it very convincingly. What if he's right? What if the societal problems in the world today, like poverty and crime, are caused by force imbalances that we can control? What if we could adjust these forces and correct the balance? Like a giant, very complex game of "rock/paper/scissors", but with one of those crucial elements missing. If there are no scissors to cut the paper, the rock always loses! But what if we can reintroduce scissors to the system and get back to a balance? === This book should be read by policy-makers, politicians, parents, and pretty much every person who is interested in improving their own life, their neighborhood, our civilization. Read it!

Explains the balance of nature in our everyday lives!
I have read the book. This is a very discriptive exploration of the two opposing forces in our world; aggression and passivity. The books goes a long way toward creating a picture of these forces in all aspects of our lives and explaining the necessity of their existance; their symbiotic relationship! If you analyize any constructive activity, you will notice that both forces are always at work. For example; A car drives on a road using energy in the form of contolled combustion gearing a wheel which turns against the passive resistance of a solid roadway. The resultant balance is travel. A kite flys by rising against the forces of wind and resistance of the string-holder. The result is flight! The author then contrasts today's problems with his thesis and draws the conclusion that many are caused by an intrusion into this natural order. Example; poverty in a flourishing, capitalistic society is perpetuated by removing the need to work by welfare. Overall, the author explains how classic conditions of social problems are caused by removing the element of passivity or resistance from the equation; taking away the pain! All truths seem self evident and the meat of this tome is the result of "living" the truths explained within. Balance, in all aspects of our lives, is the result of both forces. I have learned that when there is failure in my life it is the result of a lack of balance caused by the absence of one of these forces. A Good Read!

A review of "My Grampa's Woods: The Adirondacks
Even though I never actually visited the Adirondack State Park, after reading Larry Beahan's new book, "My Grampa's Woods: The Adirondacks," I feel that I enjoyed a wonderful trip to the woods of long ago. Larry Describes life in a lumber camp in the Adirondack woods of 1900 in an honest an intimate way, so that you hear the noise of the loggers talking at breakfast, taste the hot cakes covered with maple syrup, and smell the horses as they sweat and strain at pulling the logs across the snow-ccovered forest floor. Life was hard then, and Larry doesn't cover over the hard part. There was loneliness and poverty. A dollar was always hard to find. Sometimes someone had to sell their horse to get the fixens to visit relatives at Christmas. And this was in the dayswhen some people depended on the horse not only for transportation, but needed the horse to help them earn money. Mr. Beahan writes about all of these events. There are no kings or queens in Larry's stories of the 1900's, just a lot of average folks struggling to make a living. When I was a boy I saw a two-man crosscut saw, and I also saw a two-bitted axe. Larry's descriptions of real men using real saws and real axes to felll real trees brought these humble tools to life. These wern't just decorative antiques. Real people, often young people, used these tools every day, scratching a living in the woods. Last weekend I read Mr. Beahan's book straight through, non-stop, until I was done. Afterwards, I felt that my trip to the Adirondacks of 1900 had ended too soon. I wanted to hear more about the loggers, their wives and girlfriends, and their life in the woods. It was a fascinating world to me, and now it's gone.

Adirondack Mountains
I thorougly enjoyed the book because it is a good handbook for hiking the beautiful Adirondack Mountain area, tells with humor some adventures of the author and his family, and tells about the Beahan family dating from the early part of the 20th century. If you like to hike and camp, if you live in upstate New York or if your name is Beahan, you will especially enjoy the book.

Adirondack handbook
My Grandpa's Wood's is a great handbook for someone who wants to learn about hiking in New York's wilderness treasure, the Adirondack Mountains, about some of the history of the logging days of the area, and about the people who made their living in that area. It was good reading.

Love me tender, love me true
I now have all 7 volumes - all 7 available currently. But I only got volume 5 about a month ago, much later than 6 and 7. And the biggest problem I am facing now - how am I going to make it last till they print the 8th?! I read one story per week - though I die to gulp them down and make a feast of reading this book. Each precious tender love story - only one a week. Once in a week I sit down and switch the world off and read about love - because that is what Sturgeon have been writing about all his life. He takes you by hand and shows you that somebody's Eden is always somebody's else Hell; and makes you walk beside a quiet girl - quietly.. Or sit and listen to a slow dialogue of two cowboys near the fire - and at the last words to burst out laughing only to smile sadly and tenderly a minute later... Theodore Sturgeon makes you love life - and that is the best compliment I could pay any writer.

A literary slap in the face
As a writer, Sturgeon provokes one of two reactions in me: either to just give up since I know I'll never be able to equal that much quality for as long as I live, or to sit back down and write even more in an redoubled effort to equal that quality. I tend to like the second myself and I think Ted would agree, reading one of his stories you get a sense of wonder and enchantment, much as he probably felt writing it and to me it's like a gaunlet being thrown down saying, "This is the best I can do, I know you can do just as good. Prove it." Ah but the quality here is not to be believed. Even if you discount the "undiscovered" story "Quietly" which is apparently a precursor somehow to More Than Human (it's a tenuous link, even the series editor admits it) there's stuff like the title story, one of the groundbreaking stories not only for science fiction telling but the short story genre in general, there's also a neat creepy jazz story and a Western story and so much that when you finish you sit back and think about all the good stuff you just read . . . and then realize that the five volumes that are to come are supposed to represent his very best work. Argh, Ted, you don't make the challenge easy but I think it's one I accept. You want no less. Read them all already, what are you waiting for?

Introduce yourself to science fiction's greatest writer.
The publication of the collected short works of Theodore Sturgeon is cause for rejoicing. Sturgeon is the Beethoven of Science Fiction, and this fact has not yet been recognized. The thing that makes Beethoven tower over all other classical composers is his compelling ability to communicate powerful emotion. His greatest works are more than technical masterpieces; they make the listener glad to be human. They uplift, magnificantly.

This is also exactly true of Theododre Sturgeon. Sturgeon's greatest works speak directly to the heart, as do the works of Beethoven. And they do so as powerfully, since they almost always speak of love. Human love, not any pale imitation.

For several decades, most people new to Sturgeon had to approach him through his novels, since publishers did not like to print short story collections. This is a shame, since approaching Sturgeon through his novels is very much like approaching Beethoven through his string quartets. Masterpieces they may be, but they're not terribly approachable. If you want to appreciate Beethoven, start with his symphonies. If you want to appreciate Sturgeon, start with his short stories.

And just as Beethoven's best work was done later in his life, so also were Sturgeon's best stories. In the time frame that "The Perfect Host" covers, Sturgeon was just beginning to hit his stride. His greatest work will show up in the volumes to come.

Thank you, Paul Williams, more than I can say, for bringing this collection into print.

There are two authors in this book
I have read this book and there are two authors in this book, Marlene Aguilar who is a Filipino and Larry Bortles who is an American. Marlene Aguilar is very more knowledgeable about the Philippines and has done her share in preparing the manuscript for the book. I wonder why her name was not included in the authors list. If there is a way this could be rectified, I hope her name will be put in the list.

An EXCELLENT World of Darkness novel!!! HIGHLY recommended!
This is the only good White Wolf novel that I've read so far. It is VERY enjoyable! I have to admit, I had no interest in Changeling before reading this, but now my interest has been piqued. The writing is great, the story is compelling and is set in Toronto (one of my favorite cities in the world!) After having read this, I'm dying to go back there (I even bought a MAP of the city to follow along where the characters went in certain parts of the book!) Kudos, Don Bassingthwaite!!!

Great merging of all different 'dark realms'
I really liked the book a lot. It was refreshing to see a couple queer characters, and really great to watch the interactions between the changeling, vampire and mage communities.

One of the best books in the World of Darkness series.
As all WoD Vampire books, it contains plots and subplots, intrigue and backstabbing. I usually dislike Changeling a lot, but the mix of Vampires and Changelings in this book is awesome. If you like the WoD series, all I can say is: READ IT!! :)
