This being the case, the crew have only two concerns.
1) Keeping the boat positioned so that the sea takes one side of the bow more than another prevents oscillations and keeps the ride smooth. Keep the bow strait to the seas is actually rougher and not desirable. This offset can be made with a bridle. And,
2) Preventing chafe, which will part your rode and lose your para-anchor, and put you at the mercy of the full fury of a storm.
The Pardey's successfully used these techniques to heave-to in storms and avoid loosing ground when the winds became unfavorable, and then continued on when conditions moderated. They did this with confidence.
My only concern, is the Pardey's experience was strictly small boat. Small boats have an advantage in a way, in that they can be easier to handle.
The question remains. How well will these techniques work with larger boats.
I would like to read about the results of people using this technique in a larger boat in more severe conditions. For example: a 42-48 foot catamaran and/or a 45-50' monohull in 100+ mph winds with large breaking seas.
It turns out that a sailboat's anatomy - high wind exposure even running bare poles and a deep keel - can be used to defeat the underwater component of a breaking sea, rendering it harmless foam. The key, of course, is knowing how to stabilize the yacht in relationship to wind and water.
Using various sail configurations and/or anchor chutes and by simple tests like dropping bits of paper into the water, the boat may be kept within the confines of its own self-created safe haven.
This is not a "best-kept secret", but rather something that has been discovered and rediscovered in a fairly random and haphazard manner over time. Most sailors can't confidently say why certain storm strategies worked in some cases and others didn't. The authors have not taken lightly the presentation of this material to the boating public. We are all indebted to their work and insight.

While Renderman is the ostensible subject, the authors actually cover the entire graphics workflow-- and explain the "why" of it all. Their section on anti-aliasing, for example, is concise, complete, and makes clear the implications of all those little doo-hickeys in 3DS -- you remember the AR explanation better, because its based around how rendering works, rather than how a particular application works (which may change in the next rev, anyway)
Smart guys, smart book-- highly recommended.

The book, richly illustrated by the author, is about a boy who cannot not go to sleep. He finds a bear with a toothache outside his window and lets him in. What follows is a hilarious sequence as the boy proceeds to help the bear remove the aching tooth. They raid the refrigerator and knock over a lamp that sends the father to the room to investigate. Still sleepy, Dad doesn't see the bear hiding under the bed. Finally, the bear jumps off the window ledge with a rope tied around the tooth. The scheme is a success and the bear leaves the tooth to the boy for him to keep under his pillow. What a riot.
After reading the book, we laughed aloud with Juancho who by that time was all set for his own adventure with the dentist.

Written by Allan Asherman, the book is a fun trip through the early years of the saga, created by former arline pilot Gene Roddenberry. The book takes readers from the original pitch to NBC-TV, through both pilots (The Cage and Where No Man Has Gone Before), all of the 78 other episodes from 1966-1969, syndication and the growing fandom of the 70s, the short-lived animated series ('73-'74), the aborted Phase II television series, and all six motion pictures featuring just the "Classic Cast" The book has episode/film synopses, behind the scenes stories, and fun trivia. The guide has over 125 black and white photographs and a total of 182 pages (including index)
The compendium is highly recomended to any generation of Trek fan
