TV brings our family together thanks to this book
I'm a single mom with three kids. I work two jobs and take care of an invalid mother. As a result, my kids see a little too much TV for my comfort. With my busy schedule, I needed some way that I could let the kids watch TV without having to be there to monitor every moment, and a way that wouldn't require much of my time. This is it. I spend less than 5 minutes with it each day challenging my kids with a TV project, and I'm set to go do what I want. My hats off to the author for finding a way to use TV to actually bring us all together.

My kids love it
This book is great! My kids love it. I find the activities for older teenagers (15 and up) a little impractical for my kids, but they actually enjoy helping the younger ones since the projects are creative and involve TV. So either way, my kids are actually doing things together and learning! Thank you! Finally my TV is harnessed.

Practical and useful!
I found TV Time to be very practical. At first I thought it might be another book that assumes I have a craft store in my house, but no. Not much is necessary beyond cardboard, paper, crayons, pencils, books, and the usual stuff you find in every house with a child in it.

Excellent, Informative & Entertaining
What a fun resource on alternative treatments! I never knew the "downside" of herbs or other alternative treatments. The author gives both the positive and negative--help or hype--about the most commonly touted holistic treatments. I always thought herbs were ALL safe--because they are natural. Not so--and the author has scientific studies to back it up. Good for her! Also like the helpful sidebars on all pages--little known tips about complementary methods of staying well. Super!

for all people interested in holistic healing
I really liked the easytoread format of this book. there are special facts on tips in the margins of each page that are really helpful. this book is very comprehensive and describes herbs and vitamins in very thorough ways.

The BEST Alternative Medicine book I've read--the truth
If you are thinking of using Alternative Medicine--herbs, Ayurvedic, Chiropractic, Chinese Medicine or mind/body therapies--you must know what they can REALLY DO--and the limitations of each. This book gives the TRUTH and HYPE. Totally changed the way I think about taking herbs--yes, some herbs can kill you; some herbs may enhance optimal health. KNOW the difference. This book will show you how to be discerning about what you put into your body. Superbly written--easy to understand--factual & helpful resource every family should have on their shelf.

Impotence can be conquered!
This book is easy to follow and can make a huge difference in your life - highly recommend it!

Changed our marriage!
This book is a MUST READ for any couple over age 35--it will change your life and your marriage! The information on what causes impotence is excellent. We honestly did not know "why" it was happening. Yet, we learned that job STRESS, HYPERTENSION, DIABETES, and even over-the-counter medicines can effect male sexual performance--and we followed the book to make important lifestyle changes. Thank you for this book as it changed our marriage!!!

This book will change your life! It has the answers you need
My doctor never told me that my blood pressure medicine could cause impotence. In fact, when I asked about it--he said it wouldn't make any difference. Well--then I read this book!! I realized that this was hindering my sexual performance, called my doctor, and he changed medicines. In three days, I had no problems with impotence--just from changing blood pressure medications! I've learned that we are responsible for our own health--THIS BOOK will help you do just that. Buy it--it's very imformative and gives excellent "tips" throughout on how to overcome erectile dysfunction.

Better than Chicken Soup
I'm suspicious of cheesy quote books, but this book isn't fluff. It's a profound and poetic collection, great to read before bedtime or peruse whenever.

A Spiritual Look at the Century
I read this book with my children, not only to give them a sense of the timeline of the last century, but also to give them an appreciation of our spiritual lives, and the spiritual lives of our leaders and newsmakers. These are quotes that aren't typically found in their history textbooks.

As we read about the Wright brother's flight in 1903, we thought about how much has changed. And as we read about the work of Mother Teresa late in the century, we realized how little has changed.

We read some famiiar voices and some that were new to us, but always voices that inspired and challenged us.

This isn't a book that we have read and placed on a shelf, we go back to it again and again.

100 Voices
This is an excellent book. It makes an ideal holiday gift, which by the way is how I found it. Great quotes and sage advice galore.

Best Possible Resource for Parents of Girls
This is the best possible resource for parents of new baby girls who want to welcome them in a Jewish way. I found it extremely helpful. My wife and I felt somewhat confused, unsure of how to put a welcoming ceremony together for our new daughter, and this book took us through the process, step-by-step. It has an incredibly wide selection of readings, poems, blessings, prayers and songs from which to choose. Now we also give it as a baby gift to every new parent of baby girls we know.

an organic classic in the making, a must for your shelf
The introduction opens with, "Mazal Tov, You've Had a Baby Girl!" Everybody is familiar with a bris, or brit milah circumcision ceremony -- and in current practice, a festive celebration, for healthy baby boys on their eighth day after birth. But what do you do when you have a daughter? What are they, chopped liver? Since the early 1970's, some Jewish parents have been celebrating their daughters in original ways (Ezrat Nashim published the first ceremonies in 1977, and the havurah and renewal movements wrote about theirs starting around 1973). Debra Nussbaum Cohen, a resident of Park Slope Brooklyn, and mother who has known the joy of birth and the pain of loss, has created this essential guide to new and traditional ceremonies with which to welcome your new daughter to the world, the covenant, and the Jewish people. It will be a welcome addition to your Jewish bookshelf and your life. Consider this: what you create today will be a "tradition" for your descendants! Cohen started collecting organic Simchat Bat ceremonies when she was pregnant with her first child. For your Simchat Bat ceremony and celebration, she includes readings, poems, specialized readings for adoptions, blessings, prayers (in Hebrew, English transliterations and translations), history, songs, and rituals. It is an inclusive book that has sample ceremonies also crafted for adherents to traditional Orthodoxy, traditional Sephardic rite, contemporary rites, contemporary Orthodox, humanism, and modren mikveh rites. Part One consists of about two dozen pages that introduce you to welcoming ceremonies and Jewish tradition, including the idea of covenant, brit milah, the custom of gomel, and that of a new father being called to the Torah to recite blessings, announce the birth, and pray for his wife's recovery. Part Two consists of about four dozen pages on seriously practical considerations for your ceremony. It includes chapters on how to involve your non-Jewish loved ones or spouse, if necessary (through acknowledgement and readings); what to do in cases of adoption and cross-cultural adoption (remember, Moses was an adopted child, and Mordechai was probably an adoptive parent); and gay and lesbian parenthood. Part Three focuses on planning the event, creating programs, sanctifying the space, and deciding when to have the Simchat Bat (eighth day, 30th day, etc.). Part Four contains over 150 pages of sample ceremonies, and hundreds of readings and elements from which you can pick and choose. It includes selections for welcoming, naming, prayers of thanksgiving, parental blessings, acrostics, psalms, readings for relatives and friends, blessings for wine and bread, and rituals for brit nerot (light), brit mikvah (immersion), brit rechitzah (footwashing/handwashing), brit tallit (enfolding her into the covenant), brit kehillah (community), brit melach, and brit havdalah (transitions). The book succeeds so well, one wishes all the babies were girls (or maybe some things can be borrowed for future boys).

Casting light with a fresh perspective
I initially bought this book for friends with a newborn daughter. However, on the long flight home I began to read it for myself and was instantly taken in by the well-constructed and detailed case the author brings forth. The celebration of birth is a magnificent and unique experiece and should be shared by all in a special way regrdless of the child's gender. This book goes a long way to giving the reader many ideas that are delightful and inspiring without being 'new-agey'or 'preachy'. I highly recommend this read to anyone who has a baby daughter, baby boy, or no baby at all. This is an essential read for exploring modern ideas in traditional ceremony.

A wonderful read
This is a book of many journeys by different people of different backgrounds, upbringings, and sometimes faiths. The personal stories of how each person arrived at where they are in their practice of Judaism is moving and wonderful. I only wish there were a way to see the video. A couple of the rabbis in the book speak more impersonally rather than tell their own stories of how they got where they are, and I wasn't too interested in those. But there were many more personal tales to tell that left me feeling grateful to have met them on the page.

Embracing Judaism: And Loving Every Minute
Embracing Judaism makes a great read about a timely topic. The focus on real people in real family settings is alive and inspiring. The book is also a most welcome gift. Debra Gonsher is another "gift of the Jews".

A Must-Read!
I saw the documentary "Embracing Judaism" when it aired on ABC and was very moved. When I saw that there was a companion book by the same writer I just had to get a copy. Truly inspirational! I've since passed the book on to a friend and hope the chain will continue. Well-done!

Love it
My girls love this book. They got so excited about the facts the learned in this book. I even learned so new things. Fun for the entire family. We love it

A charming and fascinating book!
I LOVED this book. It's not just for kids -- though I'm sure they'll enjoy it, as much as I did. The author's choice of subject matter is excellent, and she explores each subject at just the right depth. Her breezy and humorous writing style is a joy to read.

And it's educational, too! Although I have an advanced science degree, and have been a lifelong reader in various sciences, I found myself learning something new in each essay.

I strongly recommend "How Come? Planet Earth" to curious minds of any age.

What a GREAT book!
...I bought How Come? Planet Earth for my Kids and I read an article every morning with my cereal. I love the kooky cartoons and the articles make me look like a genius to my kids! It will always come in handy to know that flys taste with their feet and humming birds have the most powerful muscles in the animal kingdom...MY ENTIRE FAMILY LOVES THIS BOOK!

Excellent Resource!!!
I have run the website Sgt. Mom's Place (recently partnered with Maingate.com) for approximately 4 years now and this book has been an excellent resource for me!! I constantly get requests to help someone find a lost friend or relative, others wanting the records for their father or relative from WWII, etc. I have used this book countless times to give these visitors the information needed to help them in their search. My thanks to the authors!! I will continue to buy the updated versions too so I can keep up to date on everything!

Outstanding reference for finding servicemembers!
Like any large Government organization, the military has it's own ways of doing things. And to complicate matters, the way you may find a person in the Navy is not always the same, for example, for the Army or Air Force.

Debra Lee does it again!
Kate Dennington has begged, and borrowed to come to America from her native Ireland to collect her inheritance, a rundown general store in the gold rush mining town of Tinderbox, California. Now, one more obstacle stands in her way. According to the laws of Tinderbox, the only way for Kate to own and opperate a business is for her to be a married woman. With few prospects for a husband among the unsavory miners, she looks towards the one man who could help her, and in return he would be helping himself, ruggedly handsome fur trapper Will Crockett.

Will has troubles of his own. Having lost all that he owned to Kate's competitor, Eldrige Landerfelt, Will finds himself in desperate need of funds to escape the trapped out lands of California and book passage to the game rich wilds of Alaska. Accepting Kate's proposal might just be the solution to both their problems.

Of course there is just one hitch to this business arrangement of their's, can Kate and Will keep their hearts in check and part company once they have earned enough money to buy their way out of Tinderbox?

I found this to be another winner from author Debra Lee Brown. Miss Brown sure knows how to deliver a love story so powerful and moving it will stay with you for a long time after you have read it! I loved this book and you will too!

Great Read
This book has become one of my favorites. I could not put it down once I began reading. The characters were consistent from start to finish.
I have read only one other book by Ms. Brown and it was very good also. But this is a must read.

Another keeper from Debra Lee Brown!
Debra Lee Brown's trademark mix of intrigue and romance will keep you on the edge of your seat. Lively characters, a terrific setting, and a red-hot love story. A winner!

Guidebook To Better Medical Writing

Excellent summary of Medical Writing
I recently purchased Robert Ile's Guidebook to Better Medical Writing and was very pleasantly surprised. He takes a concise, nononsense approach to the subject and provides readers with a series of excellent tips. He covers the basics of writing very well but also includes info on how to write case reports, clinical results, review papers, etc. I have found his book to be helpful in my own medical writing and editing consulting service. Review@lifescipub.com

excellnet
I must agree with all the three prior reviews. The author has an easygoing style that I greatly enjoyed learning from. The pages are small in size and the font is rather big; which allows to finish this guidebook in few hours, and repeated.

There are twelve chapters. The firsts provide sensible advices about choosing "better" words, sentences, tables, graphs. I found chapter six about Spelling and Grammar, Punctuation rich with great advices. Other chapters advice about how to choose the right journal. The author was straightforward in the chapters about clinical report, review article, letters to the editor etc and ethics. Really, I was impressed by the eighth chapter " how to get more writing done".

Briefly I learned a lot from this concise guidebook.

Excellent Guidelines
Great guidelines, easy to follow and good explanations & examples. Also, debunks some of the grammatical rules that we were taught... "ending sentences w/ prepositions". Recommended reading for both writers, ghost writers, and medical practicioners who outsource some of their writing.
