Perfect for the summer and year 'round
Healthy, natural, and easy. This book puts the fun back into cooking at a time of year when there are so many other things to do. Starting the day with Lemon Blueberry Muffins followed at lunch with Jerssey Corn chowder, convinced me that this is a cookbook that will be always be open when I want my family to have wonderful food while I have the time to participate in their summer fun.

No Secrets Here
Finally a colorful and tempting cookbook that will be used by
experienced and novice cook alike. The smallest details are
taken care of......the Herbal oils are wonderful as are the vinagrettes. Trying each and every one, will extend far beyond
the summer.

The Summer House Cookbook
My wife and I enjoy cooking while on vacation, as well as in our backyard during the summer months. We have often felt that without all the cooking tools we have at home, our success while on vacation would be hampered. The authors took special care to ensure that every recipe can be made using only the most basic utensils. The focus on keeping it simple is consistently adhered to--as the book says, as much as we enjoy great food we have better things to do on vacation than lots of preparation. We really appreciate the pantry list--which makes organizing for our summer house adventure effortless. Try the grill-roasted oysters and the heirloom tomato salad. The Aux Delices Orzo Salad is great!! Having sampled author Ponzek's fine food at Aux Delices in Greenwich, Conn. I can tell you we are thrilled to have the insight of a four-star chef translated into simple meals that we can enjoy with minimal fuss. Love it!

Made me think...
I enjoyed reading about Elizabeth and her life with Roy Freeman. I live in Richmod Kentucky close to the areas described in this book. I enjoyed reading about familiar places. This book made me think about life and all that I hold dear family, children, education etc. I recommend this book to everyone. Don't miss it!

Dear Debbie:
I, Aunt Nanciana, am reading DETOUR for the third time.

It's beautifully written. Each time I read DETOUR I learn something new about life, love, and religion.

Nothing negative; all true and beautiful for all readers to consume and try to live by.

I, Nanciana Wallick Bonebrake, am ever so proud of my dear neice, Debra Wallick Stone.

Thanks for this opportunity to let my family and friends know about her book: DETOUR.

Tastefully written....I enjoyed every minute of the book
DETOUR is one in a line of many books I have read in the last year, and I enjoyed each and every minute of it. It gets to what I believe to be at the heart of every human being,...the desire to get back to the basics of life.

It tells of the lives of two people deeply in love with each other, each on two totally opposite fields of life when reunited. When "The Operation" decides the detours they must each take from their familiar lifestyles leads them to an Amish community, both find out that the things that matter most in life are the things that money cannot buy.

Very educating on the Amish lifestyle. Very respectfully written, informational, and enlightening.

I loved it !!!!!!!!!!

Sound advice for raising sexually healthy children
As a parent of an 8 year old girl and 5 year boy, I find this book to be extremely helpful in giving advice on dealing with the often difficult questions about sexuality. This book provides advice on teaching children the proper names for all parts of their bodies (which I have always done anyway) to how to explain how babies are conceived to helping prepare for puberty, and I now feel much better prepared as a parent to discuss my children's developing sexuality with them.

Excellent resource for parents, caregivers
Haffner is comprehensive without going overboard. This book covers everything the title implies: from the foundation of sexual identity laid in infancy, all the way to the hormone-charged teen years (and beyond), it's in here.

Information is grouped by age and by major topic, and it's easy to find what you're looking for. Haffner's writing style is easy to understand and digest, and the chapters are easily navigated. A nice touch is that Haffner (an experienced sex educator) shares some of her own mistakes and fears with the reader; if an experienced pro can be nervous or choke, it's a little easier to live with your own apprehension. Haffner does a good job staying morally-neutral, in some places encouraging the reader to make his/her own values clear to the child if they differ from the author's. Refreshing, when so many authors hold their values out as the only game in town.

Highly recommended for all parents and parents-to-be.

Finally, a wholistic approach to sexuality education!
As a sexuality educator and parent I was estatic to read such a medically accurate and wholistic approach to sexuality education. I want to thank Debra Haffner for making my job as a parent and educator easier!

Great with Child: Reflections On Faith, Fullness and Becoming a Mother

Thoughtful, lyrical, honest
Debra Rienstra has mastered a difficult literary form. She is a terrific essayist. The individual chapters of Great With Child are not only thoughtful and occasionally profound (as I had expected), but she has also managed to engage me with her wonderful gift for writing. Each chapter, I think, stands by itself as a well-executed piece of what good writing can be. A book about pregnancy wouldn't ordinarily be my first choice for casual reading, but I'll read a book any time that's as good as this one, even if it is about pregnancy! I hope Debra writes again soon. She has a literary voice that ought to be heard again.

Realistic yet inspiring
Debra Rienstra describes motherhood as I believe many women experience it, not as a blissed-out fulfillment of one's existential destiny as a woman, nor as an unpleasant surprise consisting of limitations and involuntary servitude. I was so gratified to discover a personal account of motherhood as institution and experience that acknowledges the messy yet exalting realities: having children makes your life a hundred times harder, but also a hundred times richer.

A rich tapestry of reflections for those "Great with Child."
I so wish I had this book when I was pregnant! The author leads readers on pathways of longing, fulfillment, fear, and joy--all symptoms of a gestating woman's state of being. The Bible, Shakespeare, Greek Mythology and other literary works serve as Rienstra's touchstones as she deconstructs the journey to motherhood. From "trying" to conceive to the elation of reading a positive stick; from the depths of nausea and fatigue to the mountaintop of power and exhilaration, "Great with Child" travels over familiar terrain yet mines previously undetected treasures along the way. Celebratory, reflective, and gloriously true, "Great with Child" is the thinking woman's companion to pregnancy.

Halloween: A Novel

"Halloween" novelization expands on the story
This novelization of "Halloween" should delight fans of the movie; it follows the movie to the letter and expands the storyline. After young Michael Myers murders his older sister on Halloween 1963, he's institutionalized and everyone who so much looks at the kid the wrong way has an "accident". Only his psychiatrist, Dr. Sam Loomis, isn't fooled by this charming sweet-faced lad and struggles to convince his superiors that minimum security is no place for the kid. But, hey, nobody ever sees the kid doing anything, so minimum security it is. His sentencing judge ordered him tried as an adult, but before his hearing the twenty-one year old Michael jumps the fence on October 30th, 1978. Loomis, livid as ever because no one listened to him, trails Michael back to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois. While Loomis gets only lukewarm support from the sheriff, Michael robs a hardware store of a fright mask, rope, and a few knives, and sets out to relive Halloween of so long ago. He stalks teenage Laurie, Annie, and Lynda, who remind him of his sister. After killing two of them and one of their boyfriends, it's a fight to the finish between Michael and gutsy last one out Laurie Strode, who finally believes that there is indeed a "Boogeyman".

Well-written and paced, Curtis Richards expands on John Carpenter's storyline much better than any of the latter film sequels. We learn that Michael had a mentally ill grandfather who also had a poisonous rage against young lovers. Michael talks as a child and we get his third person viewpoint. We get Laurie Strode's thoughts on the evils of Halloween and then, when she gets confronted with them. Plenty of teenage chatter that's even better now that I read this as a adult. Unlike the movie, very little restraint with violence and sex. I wish Richards had written the "Halloween II" novel, because that one can't hold a candle, or a jack-o-lantern, to this one.

GREAT MOVIE AND AN EVEN BETTER NOVEL!!!!
If you loved the movie, you will really appreciate this novel as well. The author goes into tremendous detail and leaves you with a better understanding of Michael Myers and why he does what he does. There are even a couple of scenes that weren't in the film that really add alot more to the story. For instance, there are a couple of scenes that describe what went on inside the Smith Grove Mental Hospital when Michael Myers was a child living there. Also, there is a passage at the beginning of the novel that explains the origins of Halloween the holiday. I really thought it set the mood and atmosphere of the rest of the story.

If you have the chance to get this novel, GET IT!! It is definitely a treasure and classic storytelling at it's best. ...END

Not only a great novelization, but a good novel on its own.
Who was Curtis Richards and just how did this individual know so much about Carpenter and Hill's interest with Celtic myth. Not only are all the characters expanded nicely (we get to see Loomis and Michael interacting in the asylum and the good Doctor's growing understanding that the boy harbors pure evil) but an extended historical back story is revealed as well. The basic storyline of Carpenter's legendary thriller is made so much stronger by these touches. A near classic of its kind.

For anyone concerned about an older parent
This book is written for anyone concerned about an older parent, grandparent or other older adult who has a problem with alcohol or mood-altering medications. It is the only book I've found that covers this topic so completely and, not only does it explain the problem clearly, it offers practical steps to help the older person get the right kind of help and live out the rest of their golden years sober -- able to, once again, enjoy family, grandchildren and friends. Best insight: many of the things attributed to aging can be a result of addiction. With sobriety, many or all of the problems go away.

Emotional reading
I have suffered from food addiction for many years. This book has helped me dig deep into myself to find out when my eating disorder began. If you suffer from an eating disorder or would like to better understand how an eating disorder affects the life of someone you care about, this book is definately worth purchasing.

Enlightening and a God Send
This book gave me what I'd been searching for -- a guide to help my 67 year old mother who has a serious alcohol problem. She didn't remember conversations, slurred her words, had falls during the night, had bruises on her face and arms, ate poorly, isolated from us and her friends, and refused to see a doctor. I slowly watched my wonderful mother change before my eyes. I couldn't even trust her to babysit her grandchildren. This book not only gave me the information I needed, but helped get my reluctant brother and sister to finally agree to get our mother help. I give this book my wholehearted endorsement and recommend it to anyone worried about an older parent who has an alcohol problem. I haven't found any other book like it.

Thorough & Fun
I'm a "know it all" and have dabbled in many of the systems covered in this book, so I wasn't expecting much. Boy was I surprised! Not only is it reader friendly with worksheets and quizes but the author clearly knows her stuff and is able to describe each orientation clearly and succintly. I found this very helpful in developing insight (and compassion) into myself and friends and family. Most helpful!

A Fun Understanding!
This book is a great asset in our search for ourselves and potential partners. I strongly believe the authority in this book. How am I perceived? Is my mate my true soul mate? Is my soul mate out there? Who am I ? This very helpful guide lets you accumulate a complete visual rendering of yourself . This guide offers countless ways to better yourself and your life!!! I highly recommend this to all!

The Ultimate Personality Guide
Congratulations to the authors of TUPG for writing such a fun, thought provoking and exciting book. I really enjoyed reading it and ended up learning a great deal about myself as I read. I was completely impressed with their level of expertise and their ability to convey a great deal of information in one book. They really got me to understand an enormous amount about myself; about my feelings, my choices, and what I can do to make improvements in my life. I'll look forward to more books from these wonderful writers!

The Measurement Nightmare: How the Theory of Constraints Can Resolve Conflicting Strategies, Policies, and Measures

Getting to the core of the problem
The book focusses on the root problem behind all those dysfunctional metrics around us. It explains very clearly (also for people not trained in financial jargon) how the wrong focus on the wrong metrics in the top of the organization can have impact on the complete organization and may impact negatively the quality of decisions throughout the company.

Very much recommended!

Seamless blend of traditional (GAAP) and TOC
This remarkable book manages to cover a wide array of topics (TOC, metrics, accounting and GAAP compliance and implementation and strategy issues)in approximately 200 pages and still impart a deep message. The message is not subtle - don't be a lemming just because 'you've always done it this way'. Actually, the message is much deeper and also encompasses how to measure the right things.

What I like most is the fact that the author can write clearly and hold your attention while at the same time providing you with enough information to cause you to rethink the way you're currently doing business - and giving you a clear path to doing it better. The book starts out with eye-opening stories from the author's past experience of companies what were measuring the wrong things based on myopia. She then introduces TOC, discusses how traditional accounting metrics and indicators can be aligned to TOC, and goes deeper into TOC with a direct emphasis on how it relates to accounting methods. From there the book goes into TOC metrics and how to align them to GAAP financial statements. This short book wraps up with excellent implementation advice that is based on a strategic approach.

Overall, this book is easy to read, but is rich with information beyond what one would expect is such a short book. The author backs up her proposed approach with real life experience and compelling facts that are logically presented and based on hard numbers, and is an obvious expert in both accounting and TOC.

Measurement or Comedy of Errors
This is far and away the most entertaining managerial accounting text ever written. Smith illuminates the flaws in traditional accounting measures with humorous (unless they happen to you), real disaster stories. Each story includes explanations of the classical accounting analysis (or misguided blind pursuit of efficiency) which caused the disaster and a discussion of more appropriate metrics.

That people often let the way employers measure them influence their on the job behavior is a double edged sword. People measured stupidly just may behave stupidly (because the stupid measures will punish them if they behave wisely). Any CFO or managerial accountant who does not thoroughly understand this book may, with all the best intentions, put her/his entire organization at risk. The disaster stories lose some humor in the first person.

Read it because its fun. Apply it because it works.

Intrigue is on a roll!
I love rediscovering the Harlequin Intrigue line. I was an avid reader when they first came out in the 80's, then I got away from them because they got to be the same old thing. But with new authors like Debra Webb and her Colby Agency series, (along with a few old favorites) I'm an Intrigue fan all over again. I prefer grittier stories with lots of tension and suspense, and Ms. Webb really delivers with THE BODYGUARD'S BABY. Stubborn and dark, Nick is a hero to love. And Laura's predicament kept me right on the edge of my seat. I wouldn't normally pick up a secret baby story, but GO GET THIS ONE NOW! It's a real page-turner. An emotional feast.

A real FIVE-STAR read if I ever read one!
What a scary situation for the heroine, Laura Proctor! I cannot imagine one more frightening that for everyone around you to consider you crazy when you're scrambling to find your kidnapped child. And no one believes the child really exists, even the father. This one will keep you up ALL night turning pages. Debra Webb never lets a reader get complacent, never allows one to think, "Aha, I know what's gonna happen next." Nick, the hero, is my favorite kind of guy, a go-getter who never gives up and never gives in, and his feelings run deep. If you love suspense, you've gotta read this one for sure!

Finally, someone who understands tension!
I just finished The Bodyguard's Baby. This is a book you don't want to start before dinner, or if you have to pick the children up.

Ms. Webb's heroine is in serious trouble from the beginning, and Ms. Webb has a real talent for making the reader feel her tension and pain. And, there IS tension as she tries desperately to figure out what's happening.

The hero also is well developed and I found myself wanting to yell at him that the heroine was telling him the truth. Finally, when it seems things can't get worse, they do.

This one is a real page turner. I can hardly wait for Ms. Webb's next offering.
