Heartwrenching
After losing my Golden, Cody, after twelve years I have been walking around in a daze. This book helped me sort out my deep feelings of grief and absolute despair. These dogs are spirits in our lives, true soulmates. They are there for us through thick and thin and go far beyond being man's best friend. I could easily associate with Marlin's deep love and deep sense of loss. I wish I could sit with her over a cup of tea and just talk Goldens. A deeply passionate book.

Best Golden Retriever Book So Far
This is a pictorial history of the author's love affair with her Golden Retrievers. The "story" is about 30 pages and the pictures about 50 or so. The story will grab you in your gut and hit you right in the heart of how you feel about your current (or former) Golden Retriever. The story about the cover photo is especially moving. For a non "how-to" book, this one is THE BEST!

Too good to read--yet
My daughter bought me this book for Christmas two years ago. I haven't been able to read more than a few pages before I have to put it away. It is too moving. I know I will return to it after my 13 year old Golden has gone.

Best single source for friends and family of addicted
I've read several books and online materials about substance abuse and how to help someone out of addiction. This book is the most comprehensive, considerate, simple, and useful source for friends or family members. It is more complete and helpful than the better-known cornerstone works from the Betty Ford Clinic and Dr. Vernon Johnson. Not only is the text full of information, but the charts offered at the end to help organize an intervention are most user-friendly and designed to give you a thoughtful helping hand. This one is the best investment.

The best I've read on this subject
Whether you are a family member, a friend or a professional counsellor, this book is a "must-read" for anyone dealing with alcoholism or drug addiction. It may be painful to read, but it's so true. I am purchasing copies to share with friends. I need their support.

Diocese Assistance Program (DAP)
In an effort to promote the healing and recovery of individuals and families in the 10 county diocese with 98 parishes, the parish representatives trained in the community resourses to assist people who have loved ones with a substance abuse/alcohol problem are using the guidebook "LOVE FIRST". Because of this new approach to intervention we are averageing ONE intervention a week acrose the diocese. A beautiful well written, easy to under stand text that appeals to those with a caring love for someone who is hurting.

A remarkable testimony, memorial, and treasure trove
Within Reach: An Inspirational Journey into the Life, Legacy and Influence of Billy Barty is a remarkable testimony, memorial, and treasure trove of admiration for Billy Barty, the Hollywood film actor whose most enduring legacy is perhaps his co-founding of the organization "The Little People of America". Compiled and written by Michael Copeland (one of Billy Barty's nephews) and his wife Debra Copeland, Within Reach is a compendium of anecdotes from a wide range of famous people who remember and reminisce about Billy Barty. Within Reach is suggested reading for all Billy Barty fans. Also highly recommended is the Billy Barty website ...

Within Reach
Knowing how much of an impact Billy Barty had on my life, it was amazing to see how many other peoples lives had experienced the same thing. Billy Barty touched the world in a way that not many are able to. I don't see how anyone could read this book and not find themselves walking away with more than they came with!

When shopping, reach for Within Reach
In an age where celebrity bios seem to focus more on carnal antics rather than acting ability or achievements, "Within Reach" is a breath of fresh air.
Filled with anecdotes and reminiscences of the late, great Billy Barty by many of his coworkers and fans, the authors Copeland achieve a touching and enjoyable tribute to a beloved actor and celebrated activist.

Great book.
Great book. Don' stay home without it.

There's no place like home
After experiencing numerous home accidents a friend of mine gave me this book and what a great book it is!
It is chocked full of useful advice. Here are a few tips of my own that I've learned over the years:
1. Never bring a plugged in radio into the bath with you.
2. If a substance has a skull and crossbones on it do NOT drink or other wise ingest.
3. If you have children don't leave toxic substances in areas that they have access to.
4. Don't use a fork to get that piece of burning toast out of the toaster.
5. Don't let the kids play spaceman with plastic dry-cleaning bags.
6. Never stick your hand in the garbage disposal.
7. Asbestos is bad for you.

There are many other similar suggestions in this book that most of us would never think of.
This sage advice is too late for me. I am no longer able to leave the house because of my hideous disfigurements, iron lung and inability to control my bowels. So I would recommend you get this book NOW before the only job you will be able to get involves traveling with a circus side show.

Covers all important topics and a super resource book
This is a must book for every home! All areas of potential toxins are covered, and there is a huge index of resources of where to purchase healthy products, with phone numbers addresses and websites! I bought a lot of great products that I would never have known about this way, and I am very greatful for all the practical advice in the book. I never could pinpoint what was making me sick, but after reading this book, I didn't wonder "why" I had a headache after standing in a newly painted room, etc.!

I literally planned my house around the advice given in this book! On many subjects, different views are given, and you are left to weigh the pluses and minuses and decide for yourself. This book is easy to read, fascinating, and not at all preaching. The author is also not bound by any predisposition to follow any specific views (i.e. she is not completely conventional or completely alternative) and just presents the facts straightforwardly.

An outstanding guide like no others!
I've used this guide to travel from Estonia to Lithuania via Latvia, and I can assure that the coverage of those countries is absolutely great. The stories included in the book are simply juicy drops of culture, and surely they capture your interest and push you to get more deeply in the history of those sites you are visiting. No matters where you go, you will find the essential information and much more than that. This guide worth the money.

Excellent as is all of LP in Eastern Europe
As with all of Lonely Planet in Eastern Europe, this book is excellent. The historical background is particularly good, it makes some sense of an extremely complicated, and at times, surprising history. This are in many ways countries, almost of myth and old stamp collections, that have come back to the real world -a fairy tale in more ways than one. This book keeps that spirit alive, and I highly commend it.

Accurate, detailed and competent
In common with our Lonely Planet publications, the book is extremely strong on research and honesty; the latter sometimes can border with cynicism, but then I do not see anything wrong with this. It is perhaps a good idea to have realistic expectations.

For getting around, lodging and day-to-day needs, the book is superb (although upon arrival, you will also want to buy one of locally published "In Your Pocket" guides - these remarkable and inexpensive magazines are in the league of their own).

Unless you already know a lot about the history and spirit of the Baltic states, you may long for some more pictures and articles where timetables and opening times are NOT mentioned. In this case, Baltic States by Insight Guides can be recommended as a supplement - but by no means as a substitute.

The Baltic countries, which do not have a streamlined and shrink-wrapped tourist industry, are a destination where a Lonely Planet guide is needed, whatever your budget. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are friendly and well-developed, but even premium-paying customers can seldom expect to be steered through their holiday or business trip without a bit of understanding how things work. This book is a perfect tool fitting this purpose.

Welcome to Mossy Creek
"Welcome to Mossy Creek the town you can count on ain't goin' nowhere, and don't want to" with these words you get the flavor of life in the small southern town of Mossy Creek. The people are fiesty, funny, sad, and loving. Each chapter is a different character's story. You learn the history of the dispute between Mossy Creek and the nearby town of Bigelow. Each chapter becomes a story unto itself while characters overlap occasionally in the tales. From Miss Ida, the guardian/mayor of Moss Creek who will go to jail rather than put up a new welcome sign outside of Mossy Creek (afterall it was written by a Bigelowan!) to Casey, an Olympic hopeful whose dreams are dashed while returning from her elopement, due to a car accident which leaves her paralyzed from the waist down, you will laugh and cry with the inhabitants of this marvelous town. Come on for the ride and enjoy a few moments in Mossy Creek. It is a fast read and powerful in its emotions.

Great book ....
I thoroughly enjoyed this book - lots of fun, quirky characters. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Laugh Till You Cry!
I read this book because I love Deborah Smith's work. I figured at least her stories in the book would be fantastic. I laughed so hard with the first story my husband finally asked me to share the joke. And it just got better after that. I can not wait for the next book to come out! The characters were all fun and lovable. It made me wish my small town was a wee bit smaller, Southern and full of Mossy Creekites!

Woman cruisers, share your experiences
As a female cruiser and sailing gal, I found "Changing Course" a useful guide. Although I seem to be in the minority, (I sought out the cruising partner,) rather than the usual - mate of the cruiser "going along for the ride," I learned some valuable lessons in Debra Ann Cantrell's book. I actually read it already a year into my first voyage. Yet, the chapters on managing fear and interpersonal dynamics were especially useful. You can't take enough skills along with you. The chapter on ways to make cruising more rewarding also proved to be fun! I was excited to see just how many I had already accomplished. I'm now working on # 48, and of course, #23 is underway again!
Debra, thanks for writing a useful guide for women!

Guys
When you asked what your wife thought about buying a bigger boat and sailing away, was your suggestion received enthusiastically?

If not, YOU NEED THIS BOOK! It is worth its weight in gold. It will answer all her questions, and it will give you a better understanding of her point of view, and let you know what you need to change about yourself to help get her on board.

Changing Course: A Woman's Guide to Choosing the Cruising Li
An excellent book on making the transition from the current life you know to one of great change and adventure. Debra Cantrell brings forward all the pros and cons that she and other women in her study experienced in choosing the cruising life.

I felt that this book would be a great source of information and inspiration for women faced with this life changing decision.

From my prospective, it provided me with a greater understanding of what my wife was struggling with in making my dream of cruising a reality. Through our discussions surrounding this book, we have now reached a common goal of cruising that will be exciting for both of us.

The Biology of Violence
As a distinguished Doctor of Pyschology, this is an excellent book in analizing the mind of a....nevermind.

A Primer for Anger Management
This is an excellent book, well written and very intensive for understanding the dynamics involved in aggression. I find this book a primer in anger control and every helping professional must have this one available for their reference.

Found: A Gem Among the pile of Rocks!
"The Biology of violence" by Debra Niehoff is the best book on the subject I have read. I've been through over 300 books in the last three months looking for a neuro-chemical link between aggression and violence, specifically "impulsive" aggression, that from which I have, at times, suffered its unpleasant effects.

Niehoff clearly shows her education and scientific background through her writing. This book is throughougly and adeptly referenced down to the smallest detail. Every sentence informs, every page educates. I learned, for example, about the role of serotonin, the master hormone, and norepinephrine, and how they keep each other in check. One controls aggression, the other fear, both having specific receptors which, it is to be discovered, sometimes receive signals from other neurotransmitters and hormones (and also caffeine!). The role of environmental factors is given a fair and impartial comparison in conjunction with the actions of the body's hormones, increasing Niehoff's conclusion and credibility.

There is far too much information to be absorbed briefly; a detailed study is in order, well worth its rewards. I have found this work to be monumental, and while not solving the total violence problem, will at least lead the reader to make better choices at the root: the diet (foods are converted to make certain hormones and neurotransmitters). Also of interest is the treatment of insulin and its role in the body. A complete, highly informative work, unparalleled in depth and understandability by the educated layperson. Top recommendation!

THE GREATEST GAME EVER
this game has a five star graphics, gameplay, and plotline. the graphics are like real people. the fighting scenes are great. in this game you can go to an arcade and play those games!! the plot is great and if fun to go to the city and get info and find all this stuff about the murder of ryo's father's death! this is a must bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must have for SHENMUE fans
This is a great strategy guidebook for SHENMUE. It really covers a lot of information in the game. I've already played SHENMUE all the way through and I thought i had covered everything in the game. Wrong! There is a lot that I misssed! There were things in the game that you could get that I just didn't know about. For instance you can win a couple of Sega Saturn games as prizes for Ryo's Saturn at his house!

I recommend you to read this book after you've already gone through SHENMUE at least once. You'll be suprised at how much you may have missed. It may even make SHENMUE even more rewarding the second time around.

If you loved SHENMUE as much as I did, then this book is a must have!

A class-act guide by Prima
I've had a lot of issues with Prima not delivering a guide with all the info that it could of had. Prima's guides frequently do not deliver all but the bare essentials and can be poorly put together, but the Shenmue Official Strategy Guide does not follow tradition. From start to finish, the guide is absolutely packed full of information regarding the game and solutions to the many puzzles within it. Full, complete, well designed color pages document each event as it should happen with exact date, time and location, along with full color screen shots. It also includes complete index's of all the bonus items you can collect throughout the game and where to obtain them, as well as a full index of all note-entrys that can be imputted into Ryo's journal. As well, it features complete biographys taken from Shenmue Online, that include virtually every single individual you see in the game, regardless of weither you're ever able to interact with them or not. This is not a guide to pass up, and even if you're not one for cheating, it's virtually impossible to see all there is to see in Shenmue without this kind of a guide. A must have.
