Both authors are early innovators and contributors in helping teachers use basic hardware and software (where too much professional development end) to enhanced learning opportunities for all ages that supports both teaching and learning.
"Technology for Teaching" does and excellent job in reviewing the features and functions of 13 technology tools (skills software, computer graphics, word processors, desktop publishing, Web-based editors, databases, telecommunications, simulations, multi/hypermedia, mathematical devices, and artificial intelligence) used in the classroom. The authors follow up by examining how technology tools support student learning and good instructional practices that move technology fulfilling the promise integrating technology into the learning process holds.
Many technological innovations have come and gone in the history of education. Few have stayed the course or significantly contributed to improved learning, understanding, and improvement of student learning. The technologies discussed in this book run the risk of following the same path if not thoughtfully and fully used. This book outline a framework that just might allow us to see new educational problems that can be solved by integrating these technologies into teaching practice.
I recommend "Teaching With Technology" by Pricilla Norton and Karin M. Wilburg as recommended companion volume. Together, these books make a significant impact on the learning environment make these books required reading for all who champion the use of the new technologies to enhance learning and justify the time, effort, expense, and hope technology hold for our students.

The book is makes for an excellent reference, and it quite valuable, even if you don't plan to take the exam.
The book is well organized and written. Many exam prep guides are simply a cut and paste from the course preparation material and a lot of other publicly available information. I saw none of that in this book.
The exercises and practice exams give a good feel for the test.
Taken as a whole, TICSA Training Guide is an excellent work. If you are taking the TICSA test, it is worth every penny. If you are not taking the exam, it is a worthwhile introduction into information security and protection.

Unaware of what TICSA certification entailed, before reading this book I went to the website and researched the subject matter as well as found exam objectives and practice exams. I then took that information and compared it to the training guide and found that the authors have taken the exam material one step beyond the exam for this book.
I also found much of the material, whether you want the certification or not, is helpful in everyday network administration. Also the material goes a long way in other exam like Security+ and I could have certainly used this when I took that beta exam.
There are plenty of exercises and practice questions in each chapter, tips throughout the books and warnings and field notes to help in your study. Finally there is a cd-rom with practice exam questions powered by the PrepLogic testing engine giving you a look at the exam before going live. Overall this seems to be a very useful reference manual.

Her characters and depictions of small town life are dead on accurate (I grew up in Iowa, very close to the Wisconsin border). I read the book in one night. Couldn't put it down. If you get a chance, READ THIS BOOK! You won't be dissapointed.
