Elaine Levenson has done a fabulous job of putting together a book of science teaching principles and ideas for people who work with children, ages 4-10. The book begins with three chapters that tell us how to encourage the inquisitive nature of young children and nurture their science skills, how to organize a science unit, and how to make the language connection with science. These chapters are very clearly written in a pleasing format, so they are user-friendly even to the scientifically illiterate (like me). The rest of the chapters cover topics such as weather, animals, seed-bearing plants,and ecology in a beautifully organized fashion. Each unit begins with a list of objectives and a good base of information on the topic for the adult. Then the activities and procedures section begins, starting with the easiest and most concrete lessons and progressing to more difficult ones. Thus, each unit is ideally suited to families with siblings of all ages. At the end of each unit are lists of further rescources, grouped for children, adults and older children, and literature connections for younger children. There are also suggestions for field trips and other community connections. One thing I like about this book and its companion volume, Teaching Children About Physical Science, is that the graphics are pleasing and the text is easy to follow. But also, the author has a sound appreciation for how children's curiosity about the natural world around them easily creates opportunities for making science moments happen. I highly recommend this book to all parents and teachers, but especially to homeschoolers!

I just love this book. It is one I will be using often. If I had been taught this way in school I would have loved science. This book is filled with simple, interesting science lessons and experiments. Divided into eight subjects: models; the five senses; weather; volcanoes, rocks and erosion; animals and insects; seed bearing plants; and ecology. I highly recommend it. It has lessons anyone can do with objects around the house and my kids love it.

Elaine Levenson has written two of the very best hands-on science books for teachers, parents, or homeschoolers. The experiments are easy to follow and don't require elaborate, expensive equipment or a Ph.D in rocket science. I have used this book in my teaching, writing, and with my own children.With this book, and its companion volume Teaching Children about Physical Science, you'll have everything you need for great science.

I reviewed this book and am recommending it to my women clients. A comprehensive trade book, the authors have superb credentials. Dr. Smith is a pain expert and medical doctor yet gives a well-thought-out holistic program that includes exercise (such as yoga and stretching), dietary changes, natural therapies including botanicals, stress management, and hands-on touch therapies, among others. The book focuses on pain that's common to women such as headaches, menstrual cramps, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, and other types and discusses how to best treat these with a multifaceted program. I'm keeping a copy on hand as a personal resource.

I saw Dr. Smith when he was in Boston at Beth Israel (Harvard). He is the DEAREST, MOST COMPASSIONATE doctor I've ever known. I've suffered with chronic back pain for years, and Dr. Smith helped me find the right combination of therapies to resolve the pain and live my life again. This book is so totally him!! It is easy-to-read, compassionate, and helps women (like me) understand what is happening when we have pain. His treatment program is so conservative with many natural therapies listed and explained. He's the best--and this book reflects that.

I have been waiting for the release of this book ever since reading about it in a small magazine called OURSELVES. The book is everything I need--answers all my questions about pain and why I feel pain differently than my husband. It has superb remedies--both natural and medicine--for ending menstrual cramps, headaches, and back pain. I took notes and gave the book to a friend with fibromyalgia as there's a section on this, too.
Very refreshing, very revealing!! Finally--someone knows what women have endured and now WE know how to best treat it!

Normally, I don't read 'romance' stories, but in this case, I decided to read it, going on a recommendation from a friend. Well, I could not put the book down! I had a great flight to Spain, via Debra's story telling. Can't wait to read what she's got in store for us next! Ole.

Having just met Debra Marlin this weekend in Carmel, I was introduced to a colorful, warm, person who photographs and paints with love. She took the time to open her shop so that I could buy a print with hopes of a painting in the near future. We too, have a golden retriever and it was wonderful sharing the passion we each have for them. "River" was in the studio and greeted each person who came in, ("Lake" was napping in the back of the studio) with a happy smile that is shown in her paintings. It is an artist and photographer like Debra Marlin, that I would definately return to purchase one of her paintings. She will return to Martha's Vineyard soon and with her busy schedule not be able to come to Carmel as often.(someone else will manage her shop) Somehow I know that no matter where or how hectic life might be, Debra will always take the opportunity to talk to you about the joy that her retrievers have brought her. She captures that in the beautiful colors of her paintings. I would encourage anyone and you don't have to be a "golden lover" to check out her paintings. You can feel the passion in her work! Debra anad "River" have a special place in my heart. :-) By the way, I bought "Joy" and that it is!!

First,I must admit that it took an extreme amount of courage to complete my review. The flood of tears and my own experiences took me back in another time and place with my own Golden retriever dog, Cody who has been deceased since February 3, 1998. As you might suspect, I am still not over his death.

Debra Marlin's Golden retriever, Sonny was so very much like Cody. Read and enjoy this wonderful book that Debra Martin has given to the breed. Although it was an emotional journey for me I still give Debra and Sonny 5 BIG Stars!

I enjoyed Debra's first volume, YellowDog, but like many, found it to be a highly emotional journey flipping through the pages. YellowPup, on the other hand, is a thoroughly upbeat collection of images and thoughts attesting to her love of these incredible canine creatures. She has captured the very essence of a dog's innocence, loyalty, dedication and fun-loving nature in a format rarely seen, black & white photography.

The first six weeks of studying for the CPA I felt burned out and unmotivated. When I logged on to Amazon I was hoping for a miracle. I was hoping to find something the will help me overcome the fatigue. I wanted to get the CPA out of the way on the first try, and to never have to look at the CPA books again. Between this book and the CD, I regained my motivation. I kept listening to the CD every time I was too tired to study. It made me get up few times at 1 am and read another chapter, and that's motivation! I have never done anything as demanding as a CPA exam, nor did I ever feel happier when I got my results. The book covers the benefits of the CPA, why you should study, how and when, as well as it tells you everything you need to know about the exam. It's right on the mark, trust me, I was there! Good Luck! And thank you Amazon, I would have never had time to go shopping!

WOW! I wasn't even planning on taking the CPA exam. I saw the book in a bookstore and started to read it. I ended up buying it and finished it the first day! It was so motivating and really made the CPA less intimidating. I am now planning to take the November 2001 exam and I'm hyped up! I'm reading it again for the second time and am recommending it to all my friends and co-workers planning to take the grueling two-day exam. Don't give up and you can pass!

I will be sitting for the November Exam, and I think that the practical advice Ms. Hopkins offers will definately help. I went from overwhelmed to feeling as if I can prepare to pass this exam. The CD that comes with it is definately worth listening to.

I have found that this author has taken information and research to the next level. She has helped me understand ALL aspects of fitness plus a LOT about anti-aging and natural hormone balancing. She clearly understood the problems of HRT long before the public was given this information. It's easy to understand with many ways to motivate yourself. She actually teaches you how to become your own personal trainer, so I got rid of mine and saved a bundle. This is not a trendy book, but one that I have highlighted heavily for future reference. This is solid, well researched "information for life" and I already feel and look so much better. Can't recommend it highly enough.

24 Hour Turnaround is 8 books in one! It covers every base of weight loss, fitness, aging, hormones, sleep, diet, motivation, meditation, yoga and more. Easy to read (but includes the research if you want to learn more). Provides easy to follow steps to start to change your life immediately. I have never been so motivated and able to stay on a program. Finally exercise makes sense! The author gives you an exercise perscription that makes exercise easy - not painful. The Definition Diet teaches us how to go and find food we like to eat instead of someone elses favorite food. Most importantly I learned how and why these changes will effect my life. I have lost 16 pounds and I feel great. My entire family is on the Turnaround!

The book showed the though challenges in a teenagers life and how to deal with competition, people, peer pressure, and more. Pages filled with cartoons, quotes, and pictures. Great for any teen that wants to be sucessful in life.

This is a wonderful book for teens. I work with teens and provided a copy of this book to all - they loved it!! It answers the questions that they want to know the answers to - but not sure how to ask. It answers questions that they have had, have and will have. It covers everything teens care about from A-Z. A wonderful resource. If you have a teen, work with teens, or just know a teen, consider this as a gift. This book is a wonderful contribution to the great books by and for African-Americans.

The African-American population has been awaiting this book for a long time! What better way to help keep your teenager safe and informed, especially when you're not around! This magnificent book covers everything, from setting your alarm at night to good grooming and shopping tips. It is well written, clear, concise and easy to read. Each chapter has its own personality and flavor. Your teenager can look up individual subjects or read it like a novel. It promises to give information persuasively, while gently guiding your child in the right direction. I highly recommend this book for all pre-teens, teens and young adults!

Back in the mid-1990's when Bad to the Bone was released, category romance was in a heyday. Authors were allowed to try different stories and exercise their creativity. Loveswept in particular encouraged innovation. It was a wonderful time to read series romance.

Bad to the Bone is one of the best books to come out of category romance during this wonderful time. Dixon takes all kinds of risks and they all work beautifully! The heroine is a retired assassin who worked for the CIA through an intermediary. The hero is a burned out Houston cop who took a job in the sticks to save his soul. Together, they're dynamite!

I can't recommend this book highly enough. I long for the days when wonderful stories like this can be told again in category romance and secret babies, pregnant virgins and doctor daddys melt into oblivion.

This book is one of the best short contemporary books I've ever read. Ms. Dixon manages to combine a spine tingling suspense with a compelling love story. Her characters are wonderful, hard edged and believable, her dialogue is flawless, and the sexual tension will leave you wanting more.

A great book!

I have read lots of books on dating and relationships. This was the best one so far because it gives practical advice and insights into why we can't seem to find the right guy. There are exercises that give in-depth awarenesses of who we are and what we really want in life with a partner. Focusing on what we need to improve to be a better "attraction" is also important. I believe that this book needs to be reprinted, and I would pray that a smart publisher out there does so. I found the book through the inter-library system from San Antonio Texas and I live in Phoenix Arizona! I recommend it to any woman who feels she is getting nowhere in her search for happiness in a committed relationship. I am starting the program now and I truly have hope and encouragement that there is a man out there for me.

I MUST ADMIT I WAS TURNED OFF BY THE TITLE. I ASSUMED THE AUTHOR WAS GOING TO DO LITTLE MORE THAN COMMUNICATE PLACES TO MEET RICH MEN (THE RITZ FOR TEA, GOLF, CONVENTIONS). INSTEAD I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED; THIS BOOK PROVOKES A REFRESHING LOOK AT OURSELVES, OUR BELIEFS, ATTITUDES, LIKES AND DISLIKES, EXPECTATIONS, INSECURITIES, AND OTHER FACTORS THAT MIGHT HAVE KEPT US FROM BEING IN A WONDERFUL RELATIONSHIP. I USED SOME OF THE EXERCISES FOR A RELATIONSHIP CLASS THAT I CONDUCTED IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. IT WAS A SUCCESS. THERE IS A REAL NEED FOR THIS BOOK TO BE BACK IN PRINT AND ON THE MARKET. IF I HAD SOMETHING TO BACK IT UP, I WOULD GUARANTEE EVERY WOMEN THAT SHE WILL LEARN AND GROW AS A RESULT OF READING THIS BOOK AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, DOING THE EXERCISES AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER. EVERY SINGLE WOMEN SHOULD READ THIS BOOK.
