Exciting addition to civil rights scholarship
In a movement that unfortunately has been defined in the public perception by one charismatic black leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the commitment and plain hard work performed by women, black and white, has long been overlooked. Schultz's fine book adds a new chapter to the emerging fuller story of this freedom movement. Her skillful weaving of personal stories with the larger social context of the movement, and her analysis of the influence of Jewish notions of morality and social justice, make this an important addition of civil rights scholarship. Moreover, because it is so smoothly written and filled with fascinating stories, it accomplishes something rare in historical scholarship--it's fun to read!

A wonderful book!
This is a wonderful book to keep by your bedside or to share with friends and family. It's more than a book about gardening, although gardeners everywhere will love it. This book celebrates the human spirit. It shows us the power of a dream, the ability of one person partnering with others to transform her corner of the world. These stories remind us that we all have the power to bring peace and harmony into our world.

Debra Engle writes in the best tradition of personal essayists. We travel with her as she crosses the country. She transports us to these gardens, evoking their sights, scents and sounds. We sit with her as she talks to an elderly gardener in Huntsville, Alabama, or stride with her through an amazing urban farm in downtown Milwaukee. We feel the individual energy and spirit of these remarkable gardeners who are truly changing the world one garden at a time. And we see those changes through the lens of Engle's understanding of the world as a place where miracles happen every day if we let them.

I loved this book and highly recommend it. If you'd like to be reminded of all the good there is in the world, or if you just love a good essay, this book will satisfy.

This book is the most beautiful and informative book I have ever seen on the subject on antique lace. I am a second generation antique textile collector, and this book is truly the best I have ever seen on antique linens and lace.

It is the perfect gift for both the expert and the novice.

The Harder I Laugh, The Deeper I Hurt
This is a very good book with personal illustrations of how the authors have overcome their tragedies of life. Debra and Stan have both been through tragedies which alot of us have faced and this shows how there is a light on the other side of these situations. I recommend this book for any church library or for a counseling program. This books also tells of the funny side of life and how you keep laughing when walls are falling in on you. When you cry, "HELP, HELP" the authors show how to always keep pulling yourself up by your shoestrings when your shoestrings are tied inn knots.

Hattie Marshall and the Dangerous Fire
I liked the book because Hattie is sort of like me because she goes through problems everyday like I go through.

I have a brother named Sam and Hattie has a brother named Sam.

Hattie is also involved in adventure and mystery and I like that too.

Hattie Marshall and the Hurricane
As a parent that likes to know what my children are reading, I read this book. Ms. Smith has done it again! I couldn't put it down! She has a remarkable way of seeing through the eyes of her characters. The history is very accurate, the adventure believable and the examples of every day faith beautiful! Just can't say enough good things about this book! Every mom should take the time to read this series and enjoy a short vacation into childhood!

Discernment as practical art
Debra Farrington's book offers sage, practical, insightful direction to those seeking to know more about discernment and how to practice this art. The language is accessible--in my experience, people from high school students to octogenarians engage the material and actively learn from it. The book is a valuable resource for anyone teaching courses on Christian spirituality. The author mulches the text with scripture, stories from the tradition, anecdotes from personal history and other sources. Consequently, the reader is artfully drawn into an ongoing conversation about the practice of discernment, and emerges from the conversation with tools, hope and common sense.
While keeping us mindful of the infinite mystery of God, Farrington reminds us that we have been given capacities to respond to God's desires for us as persons, community, nation, world.
