Total Coverage
This books answers the questions that most others do not. A very technical approach, with great editing and no errors. The books covers architectural issues, Oracle tuning but scores really big in optimizing the Solaris environment (OS and hardware/disk).

Once in a bluemoon a classic is born!
This book doesn't belong on your bookshelf it belongs on your desk beside your workstation. Mr. Packer's clarity, conciseness and comprehensiveness in his coverage of a complex topic is a tour de force that few technical writers are able to achieve these days. Written for an intelligent reader in mind, the subject matter is explained simply, directly and elegantly. No profusions of analogies, this author knows what he's talking about and he can explain it.

The organization of the chapters is first-rate. You can get to the heart of the matter with a quick glance at the table of content. The indexing is excellent. I'm amazed that I can find an entry for most of the topics I'm looking up. It has become my first point of reference for configuration and tuning issues.

Do yourself a favour, BUY IT! I'm already looking forward to the second edition of this masterpiece.

A must for your performance reference
This book is a MUST for anyone involved in Solaris performance management.

Not only does Alan Packer provide incredibly useful information regarding how the Orcale, Sybase, Informix and DB2 databases work but he also gives many hints and tips on Solaris-related issues.

From process management to data storage, there is something here for anyone involved in administering performance on Solaris servers.

Also, the content is very much up-to-date with coverage of Solaris 2.6, 7 and 8.

An excellent read, very informative and well written

An important book, updated by Ronnie Lichtman
I've read many books on the subject and this one is easily the best. Ronnie Lichtman C.N.M., Ph.D. is one of America's foremost midwives. Her writing style and expertise add new dimension to an already great book. It has everything an expectant mother could possibly want to know. Though there are many books on pregnancy and childbirth, this is the one that will be passed down to future generations. I recommend it highly.

a must have for expectant mothers
This book is essential for expectant mothers. It covers in depth information on weekly fetal development, symptoms during pregnancy, preparing for the arrival of the baby, and birth and delivery. This book also covers multiple births, and family planning methods. This book gives detailed information on sexual organs and conception.

Clif you are so right "You don't seperate yourself from your faith" I just love your books. I truly like what I'v seen God do in your life through your writting. I'm a Sp.Ed. teacher in Maywood, Il. and I want you to know I've read your books to all of my English classes. Thanks for making a diffrence. Your old class mate.

A Book Of Treasure To Be Read Many Times
A wonderful book. The author not only lists the values that are dear to his heart, he shares personal experiences that helped to embed those values even deeper into his life. He was closely surrounded by family and friends as a child and they took the opportunity to encourage him to be the best he could be. Thanks for a good book that will encourage the rest of us to be the best we can be also.

A book by which we can build our lives
Eight Habits of the Heart by Clifton Taulbert is among the most honest books, I've read regarding building our lives. Each of the Habits ring true as I think about my life and the people who lived out these life lessons in front of me. The book is so very practical, Taulbert does not leave us with efforts we can't make happen, instead he points out the extreme value in our everyday acts of goodness and that we can build community wher- ever we are. I find it all the more valuable in that he discovered these truths during the period of legal segregation in our country. If his elders were able to use these Habits to build a community for their children, then I am convinced that we can do likewise. Taulbert does not give the individual an out. This book should be daily reading for people everywhere.

Changing the life to better
The Gospel is something that has changed my life, faith is one thing that must be understood to be true, this book head to true faith, because it guides you to understand Jesus phrases in a way that everybody can follow and adapt successfully to his/her life.

CLARIFYING THE BIBLE
As a new follower of spiritism, I found the book to be the perfect companion to the Bible. It helped to clear up many incorrect ideas I had about Jesus words.

The only way to understand Jesus' teachings
This is undoubtedly the best book I have ever read and I will tell more, this is the best book ever published!!! This is the only path to understand Jesus teachings.

If you are critic enough, like to make analogies, cience, philosophy and religion, please take some hours to read this book.

You can ask yourself, comment, think and you will find a reason based on cience and philosophy of everything Jesus ever did for us on Earth.

Get it!
I collected Morgan Silver Dollars for years before I got this. I wish I had bought it a long time ago. A good basic reference for the collector.

YOU MUST HAVE THIS BOOK if you invest in Morgan or Peace $$
This is the only book of its kind! There is no other reference like it for the different die varieties of these popular dollars. If you buy this book, also purchase "The VAM Keys", a list of the top 100 Morgan Dollar varieties.

The only complete reference for rare dollar varietys --
This book is a must have for serious silver dollar collectors -- VAM collecting is not as popular as it will someday be, and now is the time to get at it! -- This book has the complete refernce list for VAMS but is only a companion to the newer and updated "Top 100 VAMS" booklet available now. The only drawback to this book is the authors have (once again) changed their rarity and popularity format and this huge volume does not correspond correctly with the Top 100 reference.... Untill they pblish a newer version of this book, it's a must have and will probably pay for itself with the discovery of scarce varietys you already have and will find should you decide to seek them out.

for every thinking person and those who wish to be
Everyone I've recommended this book to has loved it. It will either be an introduction of new ideas that are pleasant to think about or a conformation of thoughts the reader already has worded in a way that makes them more accessable. The list of writers contains many sparkling souls. Anyone can read this without being offended, and everyone should read it at least once.

Fabulous, it will expand your mind
The book's premise is that buddhism is the perfect religion for an eco-centric based society & culture. It does very well in proving the compatibility and similarities between buddhism & ecology. The section on shifting views of perception is highly enlightening. The variety in this book is amazing, there are over 30 contributors. Books like this one, in which the book is merely a collection of essays on the same topic are great because you can read it in one sitting, or read an essay at a time. As you finish the last essay of the book, you will never see Smokey the Bear in the same light again, now there's a teaser!. But seriously folks, this book is great.

Well written, insightful, thought provoking
Dharma Gaia is a collection of essays offering different perspectives on human/Gaia interaction. These perspectives tie in with Buddhist philosophies to offer readers a sane and well reasoned spiritual approach to ecology. Short introduction by the Dalai Lama, essays and some poetry.

Excellent Personal History of a Little Explored Event
This is a very personal history as the author takes personal interest in the Lt. Kidder massacre that occurred to a platoon of soldiers carrying a dispatch from General Sherman to Custer. This was during the 1867 Kansas Indian war during the military's unsuccessful campaign to defeat the various tribes. Earlier references to Kidder stated that the young inexperienced officer was unfamiliar with Indians and was ill prepared for his mission. However, the author through research confirms that Kidder had Civil War and Indian warfare experience. The latter was during the Sioux wars in Minnesota. The author provides more detail than the normal few pages in books about Custer. The detail includes a biography of Kidder, a detailed description of his family and particularly information about his father who was a judge and politician in South Dakota. High points include the story of the massacre. It starts initially with Kidders recent re-enlistment and assignment in Kansas and within a few weeks of his arrival, the mission to deliver Custer a dispatch who at that time was with the 7th trying to locate and defeat the Indians. Kidder finds Custer's trail but unfortunately where Custer turned off the Wallace trail, Kidder misses the new yet faint trail perhaps because he passed it at night. Approximately 200 warriors found Lt. Kidder instead and he tries to escape finally fortifying himself in a small ravine among high grass. It sounds familiar to the last survivors of Custer Hill running to a ravine for cover also killed without survivors. The author's surprisingly successful archeology digs help them map a course of battle and determine what may have happened. Kidder also had an Indian guide who died with all 11 army members. The author also writes of Kidders father making a brave trek to the battle site to recover his son's body, which actually encouraged the army to recover all the bodies. It's a personal trip with history and a real person's story about the need to find more detail about an often referred to event without elaborate research. The authors virtually take you there with their visit through descriptions, maps and photos.

An incredible insight.
This book provides an interesting and poignant study of Lt Lyman Kidder and his brutal demise. The work also affords the reader an insight into the tragic existence of the frontier family by following the journey of Lyman's father to claim his son's body from the remote battlesite. The authors' skillful use of original sources paints a vivid picture of a father's search for meaning following the death of his son. Judge Kidder's subsequent correspondance with Custer and Sherman, among others, affords an invaluable window into these turbulant times. The book will not only be enjoyed by students of American Frontier history, anyone with any degree of empathy with, or sympathy for, a family's love for their son will be moved. I recommend this book without reservation.

A Great Poe Story
A Great Poe Story

"The Narrative of A. Gordon Pym of Nantucket" is a devilish tale about a young sea-loving man by the name of Arthur Gordon Pym. He becomes a stowaway onboard a ship by the name of Grampus. This gravely error causes the mutiny of the Grampus, the stranding of the Grampus at sea, and the death of his friend, Augustus. I believe this story is a wonderful spine-tingling tale by the popular author Edgar Allan Poe. This story would be a wonderful addition to anyone's horror story collection, especially anyone who loves Edgar A. Poe's gruesomely good stories of horror and mystery.

masterful works from the master of suspense
Being British, I can't comment on his significance in America, but I would like to praise him as one of the best writers of all time. Not content with single handedly defining new genre - The detective story (Murders in the Rue Morgue), the adventure story (The Gold Bug), he went on to write stories which would chill the spines of his readers for centuries to come. This book covers all his best work, and though it is often difficult to navigate his wide vocabulary, there is more than enough in content to keep even the most uneducated, glued to the pages. The only thing that would make this book perfect would be illustrations by Tim Burton, or a soundtrack by Danny Elfman.

Poe. He's the man.
Edgar Allen Poe's life of struggle and hardheadedness bore fruit in his writings, the most important of which are presented here. Poe's strongest point remains his mysteries, which have been used for the basis for many writers following after. Coldly stifling is the setting in which Poe casts his readers; feel the chill of the caverns, and the mouldering death-shroud of those buried before their time, or those damned to their fate by the acts of their lives. Poe's works have a constrictive effect *much like The Shining, by King does*, pulling the reader in closer to the text, seeking resolution at the end, but only finding... well, it would be a sin to spoil your first taste of Amontillado, or your first stroll along the Rue Morgue. So do what's right. Click for Edgar, and make sure that, unlike the sweet Lenore, he is seen for evermore...

Few Protestant to Jewish Conversions
This is a good book for anyone considering converting to Judaism and wanting to read about the experiences of others. There are many case studies of those who have converted to Judaism, their reasons for doing so, the reaction of their family and friends, and their feelings about the whole experience. The examples are overwhelmingly positive, but there are a few who report difficulties "feeling Jewish" afterwards or feeling that they are totally accepted by their new Jewish community.

The examples are mostly from those who either converted from Catholicism or had no real religious upbringing. I was disappointed that see few Protestant-to-Jewish conversion examples; the ones that were given, were mostly from those who had very limited Protestant upbringing as children, not really practicing Protestants who decided to convert to Judaism.

The other disappointment I found with this book was due to all of the white space. This book is definitely not as long as it appears, and it will be a very fast read.

Overall, I found this a helpful and interesting book that I only wished were a bit longer and had a few more examples.

Fabulous!
The stories in this book are sometimes hauntingly beautiful. One woman expressed my thoughts so well that I read her story aloud at my bat mitzvah. This is truly a book for making connections.

Gave me confidence in what I want!
I had this book posted to England where I was spending my year abroad. Part of the reason why I was looking forward to that time in England was the opportunity to find out whether Judaism was what I wanted in my life. This book helped immensely and gave me many thoughts to pursue in conversation with friends and my rabbi. I can only recommend it to people who contemplate conversion.
