Writing the Winning Dissertation: A Winning Guide!
Writing the Winning Dissertation was the only guide I needed when writing my dissertation. After I completed my research study and began to try to pull my data and research information together in a cohesive manner, I was at a loss. This book led me step-by-step through the process. The guide is straight-forward and easy to follow. It explains exactly what you need to include in your dissertation and describes the order in which the information should occur. For me, it was a lifesaver!

A practical guidebook.
As someone who works privately with students, helping them with dissertations, I highly recommend this book. When students contact me in regard to assistance with their dissertation, I recommend that they buy this book and use it as a reference. As stated in the title, this book provides a step-by-step guide. The information contained in this book anticipates and answers many of the questions that students have about the dissertation process. It is the most practical book about writing a dissertation that I have come across in recent years.

Excellent Internet guide
This book has lots of useable information and I would recommend it to anyone using the Internet. This little guide is both fun to read and lists many useful sights and places to go. You will learn how to navigate the web, join in chats, visit you ancestors, and zillions of cyperspace information and activities. How can such a small book have so much information?

For under 14 bucks it certainly is an excellent value. I give it 5 stars and recommend "50 fun ways to Internet" to both the beginner and the seasoned Internet surfer.

Vademecum of typefaces
Paracelsus said that every substance in the world can cure and every substance can kill, and that the only difference was made by dose and timing. So, the art of using substances to cure involves the wisdom of chosing among thousands of them which one, how much, how combined, and when, is adequate for an individual case.
That is why pharmacysts and physicians get thick books where they read about the origins, composition, benefits, mechanisms of action and risks of every substance, so they can decide and suggest the appropriate procedure under their professional knowledge and responsibility.
Well, Haley does that with typography.
Reviewing just a few, a well picked, an even obvious, few typefaces among the dozen thousand available to designers, Haley shows us the origins, composition, benefits, mechanisms of action and risks of each one of them as if he was talking about medicine or fine wines.
ABC's stands for Attributes, Background and Considerations for use, reviewed methodically for each typeface quoted.
No restraining and arbitrary design rules, no false aesthetic freedom. Just knowledge, experience, sensible common sense.
Just this is how this typeface works, this is how it does not work, its advantages, inconveniences, risks, for you to choose and combine after you have read this book under your own professional knowledge and responsibility.

Useful summary
This book is a useful brief review and compendium of diagnostic neurological information. The paperback version is small enough to carry around or put in a briefcase. The book packs a considerable amount of information into about 400 pages. There are a couple of dozen chapters, organized according to the usual neurological disease categories, and there are a number of nicely done charts and tables that make good, quick references. Keep in mind this book is not intended to be exhaustive and is meant as a quick review or reference. It is intended for practicing physicians, so familiarity with the technical and medical terminology is assumed, and most technical terms are not explained. The book benefits from recent research, and contains up-to-date information on such rapidly changing areas as Alzheimer's. The book has references into Adams and Ropper's larger neurological handbook for those who want more information. Overall a good, concise reference work in neurology.

Little Al is a young boy playing pirate with his dog when suddenly his pretend adventure becomes all too real. To get out of a sudden and unexpected precarious situation he chooses the only weapon readily available to him: The Lie. But he soon learns that, like the pretend sword he wields, The Lie is double-edged and cuts both ways. Allan Burd's original story is told in verse and teaches a valuable life lesson within the context of an engaging and entertaining story. Very highly recommended for school and community library collections, The Adventures Of Little Al: The Lie is enhanced for young readers ages 5 to 10 with a glossary, as well as lively and colorful illustrations by Lisa Linbrunner.

Two Fantastic Books in One!
ONE OF THE BEST OF THE QUATERMAINS, March 1, 2000
Reviewer: s.ferber (see more about me) from new york

This is one of the best works by H. Rider Haggard that I've read, and I've read a good number of them.

This is the tale of how Allan Quatermain, hero of 14 of Haggard's books, including "King Solomon's Mines," met his first wife. It is set against the time of the Great Trek in the 1830s, and is jammed with action, adventure and romance. There are two terrific villains, Dingaan (brother of Chaka) and a Portuguese who's trying to not only kill our hero, but rob him of his wife in the bargain.

The book starts out with a thrilling battle scene, and ends with a scene of tremendous emotional intensity. In between there is so much colorful action and movement that you find yourself zipping through the chapters as quickly as you can.

The book is a true "page turner," with great sweep and drive. The supporting characters are either colorful, comedic or memorable. Hans--Quatermain's Hottentot sidekick from many of the other books--is featured here, too, and his is always a welcome presence. What a shame that this book has been out of print for so many years, along with the great preponderance of the other works of this wonderful writer.

Haggard has been called the greatest adventure fantasist of all time, and I would tend to agree with that assessment. So do yourself a favor and go to the trouble of seeking this book out. It will reward your efforts.

Graphic Adaptation of the Allan Eckert Drama
This is Timothy Truman's beautiful graphic novel adaptation of Alan Eckert's outdoor drama Tecumseh! which is performed every summer in Chillicothe, OH. It is based on the life of the Shawnee leader Tecumseh and tells the story of the rise and fall of this great Indian hero and his ambitious plan to unite the eastern woodland tribes in a final war to remove the threat of white expansion into the trans-Alleghany west. Truman has done a number of other wonderful graphic novels relating to this period and this one is just as great. If you can get ahold of a copy, buy it.
