Good way to open up to some original sounds
I'm a beginning fiddle player and I enjoyed this book because the songs are a nice change of pace and have a genuine sound and melody. As someone who doesn't read music well, I'd recommend contacting the publisher for the accompanying CD.

Good old time fiddling tunes at their best!
Allan MacDonald's collection of original old time style fiddle tunes is a great mixture of catchy, fast-learn waltzes, hoedowns, schottisches, and two-steps for master fiddlers or beginner fiddlers alike. For those fiddlers who learn new tunes by ear, there is also a tape or CD of these tunes available from Allan MacDonald's MCCBS Studio. The tunes, played by Allan MacDonald himself, were recorded at his studio in North Idaho, a beautiful mountainous area from which he selected the names of many of his tunes.

How the 150,000 American Jews were involved on both sides
First published in 1951, American Jewry And The Civil War by Rabbi Bertram Korn is a striking, comprehensive look at how the 150,000 American Jews were involved on both sides of America's deadliest conflict. Chapters include meticulous discussions on such matters as Rabbinical positions on the issue of slavery; Lincoln and the Jews; and anti-Semitism in both the North and the South. A wealth of references permeate exhaustive study, including transcripts of original correspondence that noteworthy Jewish leaders had with President Lincoln. American Jewry And The Civil War is a welcome and impressive contribution to Civil War studies and nineteenth century American Jewish history.

Definitive Work on the Topic
Half a century after it was written, Bertram W. Korn's AMERICAN JEWRY AND THE CIVIL WAR remains the definitive work on the topic of Jewish-American participation in the American Civil War. Unlike other Judaic historians, Dr. Korn displays no partisan bias, neither "Union" nor "Confederate", neither "Orthodox" nor "Pluralistic." His research is impeccable, and his scholarship is objective and pleasing to all.

OUTSTANDING!

Not enough stars for this poem
This poem is a fascinating example of the poetic genius of Poe. While it is often thought of as a poem for younger readers, anyone who appreciates the subtle tragedy that is Poe will be deeply moved by this piece - in fact, only a muture reader can fully appreciate all of its' complexity. A must for any fan of Poe, good poetry, American literature, or just plain good writing. Furthermore, you don't have to be a scholar to appreciate this one. Its' appeal is universal, and its' understandability is high. It's just a darn good read.

excellent
this is one of poe's greatest poems. there is so much love in his words for his wife (who the poem was intended for but he changed her name to Annabel Lee). A must read!

<P> A masterwork of aristotelian studies

This collection of lectures presented to Professor David Balme is a superb inquiry on Aristotle's natural philosophy by several of the most important contributors to contemporary understanding of the philosopher of the Lyceum, such as Allan Gotthelf, James G. Lennox, G.E.L. Owen, David Furley and Pierre Pellegrin. The book is a masterwork of aristotelian studies that could not be forgotten by those whose aim is understanding Aristotle's conception of nature in an analytical way, and after its publication no academic dissertations on this subject could be accepted without its very slow reading.

Book helps engineers looking at an introduction to Biology
I was an engineer and interested in learning about Biology. I went to a bookstore and browsed for 4 hours looking for a book that I could comprehend. Only two books fitted the bill - the first one is "Asking about Cells" by a Harvard Professor and the second one is "An Introduction to Genetic Analysis" by Griffith, published by whfreeman. I purchased both the books and I find that they are both good. It helps to read the "Asking about Cells" to put more detailed cellular functions in Griffith's book in perspective. Also, check out the "DNA from the Beginning" tutorial published free online by Cold Spring Harbor Labs. It also gives a glimpse of what is in store.

The main purpose of the book is to remove any phobia one might have towards biology. It neatly explains that Biologists do not know everything about cells (a common misconception of non-biologists). It also shows how they know as much as they know today. Finally, it has passionate interviews from the researchers who say why they continue to do biology daily.

The material is basic enough to be followed, at the same time, informative enough to go to the next level - understanding how genes work. I myself have now become a researcher in biology, thanks to this book. If you have never done biology ever in your life, this book is for you.

What a Great Textbook
I don't usually review (or even read) textbooks. However, in researching a forthcoming book, I've spent a lot of time with Tobin and Dushek's Asking About Life. It's made my life much easier.

As those who are familiar with Asking About Life know, this is a textbook with a philosophy. That philosophy is to present biology not as a canonical set of facts about life, but as a dynamic, ongoing dialogue with nature, in which real people who happen to be scientists ask meaningful questions and take understandable steps over time to discover answers to them. The book mixes an engaging narrative style, a strong historical perspective, great examples, and authoritative factual knowledge into an eminently readable, extremely informative, and scientifically impeccable text. As a result, a student or reader can turn to this book not simply to learn about the structure of DNA or how the human immune system functions, but also about Rosalind Franklin's role in discovering the double helix and about why HIV "continues to perplex medical researchers." And, as shown by the book's section headings (How Do Zygotes Cleave? How Does Gastrulation Set Up the Three-Layered Structure?), it embodies the truth that the best scientific questions start not with "what" but with "how."

Asking About Life is also full of beautiful, crystal-clear photos and illustrations, many of which, like the text, do a wonderful job of depicting not just static objects, but dynamic processes.

I can't imagine a better biology textbook.

Nice book
I used this book for my AP biology course. Thanks to this book, it let me got 5 on the AP exam. I'm homeschooled, I learnt biology myself, well, maybe not cause this book taught me all of the materials to score high on biology.I'm glad I used this book.
By the way, the supplementary CD is very helpful,so if you buy this text, i suggest you also to buy that CD.

Outstanding and comprehensive EEG classsification
This book is one of the best in its category. It is comprehensive, yet clear. Recommend without hesitation

An excellent visual
This book has very good examples of what to look for in a record. Many books have questionable interpretations for the student or a beginner. The book is laid out well and easy to understand. The section toward the back of the book on interpretation of eye movements is complete and vital to an understanding of the record. Don't be concerned that this book was initially written in German. It is clear and a very good value.

Best Test Prep Book
Barron's has done an amazingly fine job with this book. It takes every part of the ACT and makes it easy to understand. The ACT is, in my opinion, the best test a college could use while considering applicants. The book makes the tests harder than they really are so that you feel you need to learn the material. It really works.... Thanks...and BUY this book!

This book have given me a glance of study.
I am a M.Sc. student of Applied Chemistry and I have studied this book and in my opinion this book covers all the topics related to the test preparation of collage enterence test . I like this book because due to this book I have achieved my goal to be a chemical analyser . Thankyou .

Outstanding resource for lovers of minor league baseball
I have ordered this publication for the past three years and find it a terrific resource on all major and minor leagues. i travel extensively and use this book to tell at a glance where the home team is playing. I would highly recommend this resource for the true minor(or major) league fan. Great book!

Great book! So useful that I totally wore out the binding!
This book is the only one of its kind that I know of. It contains schedules, ticket info, ballpark addresses and directions, phone numbers, and lots of other great stuff for every major league team and most minor league teams. It's perfect for the traveling baseball fan who might be interested in catching a few games while on the road. It's small so it's easy to take along with you; it's well organized so it's easy to find things; and, as far as I can tell it's 100% accurate. It hasn't let me down yet. My only (minor) complaint is that it's not a very rugged book. I got so much use out of mine last summer that I totally wore out the binding! All in all, it's a wonderful book. I can't wait for the 1997 edition to come out so I can help plan some trips for next summer.

Some Hillarious Tales!
This is an easy fun to read book detailing some of the lighter moments in baseball. The stories about the worst teams of all time and the overly obese legends who graced and shadowed the game really stand out. Also these story about Zeke Bonarus's wacky fielding exploits are pretty hillarious. This is definitely abook that will amuse young and old time and time again.

This is the best and funiest baseball bok I've ever read!!!
Bruce Nash and Allan Zullo have taken hundreds of the dumbest plays and players in the history of baseball and put them in one book. There are many things I've told baseball trivia buffs that I read that they never knew. The wording in the book is so funny that I laughed till I cried! If you need a laugh or want stump any trivia buff, read The Baseball Hall of SHAME.
