Look no further, this is the best.
Dog Obedience Training by Ross Allan is an excellent book for anyone seeking serious advice on training their dog. It is clear, concise and easy to follow with a step by step process outlined for each exercise along with wonderful colour photos demonstrating the correct handling procedure. I have used Ross Allan's training methods on my own two dogs and have achieved the desired results when all other avenues have failed. The years of experience and dedication to dog obedience training by the author have produced what I consider to be the best book available for everyone from beginners to the more advanced dog handler. I have witnessed Ross Allan's methods work time and time again and thoroughly recommend this book to anyone in need of guidance with the training of their canine companion.

Ross Allan Dog Obedience
With this book,Ross Allan has proven once again, his expertise in the art of Dog Obedience Training. An easy to read and comprehensive guide to obtaining a great relationship with your Dog as well as valuable information on health and diet. Ross has helped me many times with his knowledge in this field and I recommend this book to anyone wishing a happy and healthy dog.

Obedience solutions for your dog
How often have we wished someone successful would show us the ropes? With Ross Allans Dog Training it's easy to tap into the experience and hard work that often take years and years to accumulate. The efforts of Ross Allan in this book show simple straight forward techniques on how to avoid and correct the problems most of us experience with our dogs every single day. I had a bit of a stint working as a Dog Handler in the South African military. Now I work for Guide Dogs Queensland Australia. To see Ross work with his dog "The Cisco kid" was something harmonious. Kind of what we all strive for in our relationship with our companions. Give it a read, and pick up the phone... the author is a nice guy too.

A Great Place to Start
This is an excellent book for both the beginner or serious student of Southwestern Pottery. It gives examples of all styles, types, and designs, making it easy for anyone to understand what makes each Pueblo's pottery unique. Perhaps not as "in depth" as some others, this book is easily the best book out there today as far as explaining and illustrating the basics. It really is an indispensable guide and reference book. The authors are regular guys rather than scholars, so it is easy and enjoyable to read, and filled with great photos of their quite amazing collections. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a place to begin learning about Southwestern Pottery.

A must for pottery collectors and fans
An excellent introduction and reference on Southwestern pottery. The authors cover each of the major styles and pueblos, with history, anecdotes, and great color pictures.

They also have a delightful approach to collecting, emphasizing pieces that teach something or appeal to them, rather than perfect (and expensive!) museum-quality work.

Pueblo Pottery 101: Fun, Informative and Down-to-Earth
If you're new to collecting, or you want to buy just one book about Pueblo pottery, buy this book. Period.

This is the most down-to-earth treatment of this involved subject that you'll find. The authors stress simplicity while encouraging readers to buy what they like and not to overspend. More than that, the authors have practiced what they preach, and the pages of color photographs are a testament to the fact that their approach works. For me, the advice in this book made this beautiful art approachable and affordable.

This book will teach you about the history and basics of the art form and introduce you to the various pueblos and their pots and potters. On top of that, it's well indexed and a great reference book. Most of all, you will enjoy the authors' writing; their style is conversational and pleasant, rather than academic or haughty. It makes for a work that's not only informative, but fun to read. And whether you read this book front cover to back, pick out individual chapters of interest, or simply use it as a reference, it will be worth every penny you pay for it. It's my favorite (and most useful) book on the subject.

Extremely informative
For women who take the extra steps to understand and take responsibility for their own bodies (and their daughters'), this book is another Must Read. Since women bear the brunt of consequences for most STD's, as well as other reproductive issues, it pays to be as informed as possible. Dr.Dr. Henderson and company are to be commended for bringing this particular issue into the light and to the popular consciousness.

THIS IS A VERY HELPFUL BOOK
I want to tell people that I think this is a great book, but I don't think I can add anything original over what the other reviewers have already said. This is definitely clear and helpful and I've recommended it to a lot of friends. Kudos to all the authors, especially Warshowsky and his holistic chapter.

A real eye-opener
Dr. Henderson opened up my eyes to a major health problem in this country today--the HPV virus. I learned what it is, how it can be prevented, and how it can be treated. I was especially appreciative of Dr. Warshowsky's tips about holistic approaches, as I prefer to avoid medications and such whenever possible. I have three daughters in their teens and I have sat them down and talked to them about the virus. I asked them to read this book. The book, by the way, is very easy to read and they should have no problem understanding it. But I never felt "talked down to" by the authors either. I think every woman and teenager should read this!

GREAT!!! (and I wasn't even born until 1981)
I was lounging around at my grandparents house and saw this book on a bookshelf in one of the old rooms that nobody ever goes in anymore. I picked it up, and out of curiosity at the title, decided to read the first page...I must have sat there for HOURS reading! It is so hilarious (and at times not so hilarious.) It is also incredibly insightful. I just finished reading it today (I started 2 days ago) and have demanded that all my other 19 and 20 yr. old friends read it...it's THAT good, and still a great book even now in 2002, and even for us kids who weren't even alive until the 1980s! READ THIS BOOK!!!

Halarious
I'm just about finished with this book, it is absolutley the funniest book I have ever read. His detailed history of the "corruption" of our minds starting with the dawn of man is wonderful. The only tragedy to this book is that he isn't alive now to see how things have progressed since 1973. . .

It is an absolute must-read.

Without Doubt, The Funniest History Book Ever Written
You may only know Allan Sherman for his witty song parodies ("Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah"), or perhaps you even know him for his television production in the 50's and 60's. However, in my humblest of opinions, this is the best thing he ever did.

This book is laugh-out-loud funny. Spit-Milk-Out-Your-Nose funny. Laugh-So-Hard-The-Folks-Riding-With-You-On-The-Subway-Will-Think-You're-A-Lunatic-And-Consider-Calling-The-Transit-Police funny. And the best part of it is that most of it is a true accounting of American sexual history.

I am on my fourth copy of this book, having loaned my previous 3 copies out and never received them back. My current copy will never be loaned out, under any circumstances.

Buy it. Now. You will pop a gut laughing.

Anyone seeking God, take heed...
Robert Allan's well researched and scripturally based perspective of God's intention for believers, and those who would believe, is exactly what's needed in these days. Like me, you'll find yourself laughing uproarously one moment, then brought to tears, as God uses the author to touch you in the deepest reaches of your spirit. You can't read this book without realizing how significant you, and the Church, are to a lost world and the onus we have in it. A powerful must read!

Here it is - All in one book
WOW !!! "THE WAY THE CHURCH OUGHT TO BE" is a must read for the serious (committed) follower of the Lord Jesus. This book is a wake up call for the honest at heart. Mr. Allan's methodical march through the scriptures cements each point together with the truth of the Word. As I read I could feel the Spirit quicken my spirit and feel my heart jump for joy to words I've so long felt but haven't been able to express. Page after page, chapter after chapter, I could feel my heart shout "Yes! Yes!"
Of particular interest, the chapter on the Church and Spiritual Warfare cut to the chase, with a no holds barred simplicity that went to the crux of the issue with the statement "Satan and his demons don't care whether we leave them alone or not, for they will attack us anyway". This point, I feel many people including myself in weaker (lazy) moments try to forget that reality. We think and hope (mistakenly) we can opt out of the battle and let someone more 'spiritual' deal with the issue. We feel we have enough to do just coping with our everyday burdens - not realizing the everyday burdens are in reality a result of conflicts in spiritual realms.
In a physical battle, everyone whether high or low, is crucial to the ultimate outcome. A lowly clerk in the quartermasters corps or a back sink man in the mess hall, cannot abdicate their responsibility and just leave it to the 'Navy Seals or Airborne Rangers' to win the war all by themselves. It takes the concerted efforts of everyone involved to accomplish the objective.
In the spiritual realm, Satan although already defeated, relentlessly pursues our souls with ferocity beyond human comprehension. God in his grace has given us the opportunity to partake in this struggle. I feel we will be blessed when we actively participate.
Woah !...... Let me catch myself, I don't want to write my own book here. It's just that Mr. Allan's scholarly endeavor is a superb example of a work directed by a man with a heart for God and a desire to serve Him in thought and deed. He has meticulously and methodically searched the scriptures for the passages that illuminate God's plan for his church. This he has presented in a fresh, lively format uncommon in many books dealing with biblical subjects. Pardon me for being repetitious, but in closing I must say; this book is a must read for the serious (committed) follower of the Lord Jesus.

A Breath of Fresh Air
Robert Allan's book is a breath of fresh air. His argument is tight, well-presented and supported with Scripture throughout. Any pastor, leader or church member interested in discovering the Biblical blueprint for the construction of the Christian church would do well in buying this book and reading it. I especially enjoyed Mr. Allan's use of humor (the gallows variety) when dealing with some rather heavy questions.
I gave the book to my pastor and he read it. He liked the book so much that he ordered a copy for each of his staff.
My pastor commented that there should be a workbook available so that interested parties could study the book like a training manual.
I am exremely impressed with this book and hope that Robert Allan writes another one soon.

Replaced Good Night Moon
I bought this for my daughter when she was 1 yr. old but she was not interested. Now at 17 mos. old she won't go to bed until we read this book. All I have to say is "go get peek-a-boo" and she runs into her room and grabs the book. If read in a low key voice this book works great at night because the last page has the baby in his crib ... what did he see? It's a very sweet and different book for young children.

A Cute, More Old Fashion Book
This book is great to start teaching your child the old game of peek-a-boo. The book is about what a little baby sees through the day. The baby can see through the circular cut holes through to the next page. Each page is a different scene in the day in the life of the family. To me it is amusing to see just how cluttered the family in the story is.

All three of my children have liked this book. It is worth the purchase!

Peek-a-boo... I see a winner!
Based on the "peek-a-boo" game familiar to many babies, the poem prompts the toddler to "peek" at a variety of scenes in the life of a very chaotic family. Rhyme and repetition are used. The silent stress caesura is incorporated in order to present a familiar nursery rhyme-type feel for the listener. Many people have found this to be their own child's favorite book. There's a lot to look at!

This book stands out in the crowd
Professional PHP4 Multimedia Programming is a unique book in the midst of all other PHP books. No other book aims to cover the topics that this one does. If you are a PHP developer looking to expand you knowledge and integrate the multimedia capabilities of PHP into your applications, then this is the book for you.

The goal of this book is to introduce the concepts and techniques needed to produce dynamic multimedia content. The extensions covered are Ming, GD, ImageMagick, PDF, and FDF. Each technology is thoroughly explained from installation through example use. A case study is then given to go into further detail on the use of each extension.

I especially enjoyed the fact that they provided installation instructions for these extensions. One of the biggest hurdles people have with using Ming, GD, and the others is the installation process. Once someone gets past that stage they can at least experiment with how the extension works. It can be very frustrating when you can't even get something installed. Hopefully this book will help ease some of that frustration.

The case studies used by the authors are superb. These are real would applications that people want to create every day! They include a headline grabber with Ming, a mobile web coffee shop finder with GD, an image gallery using ImageMagick, and a PDF template system. Each one of these case studies is designed to get you thinking. Sure, they you the code needed for the application, but they also show you how the design process works and detail possible enhancements.

The one thing I found lacking in this text was some type of common problems section. Invariably, people are going to have difficulties when it comes to installation or use of these extensions. A simple google search will show the abundance of problems related to these technologies. A small chapter, or a section in each chapter, detailing some of the most common problems encountered, with their fixes, would have been great.

Overall, this book is great. If you are looking to develop multimedia applications in PHP, it is a must have.

Get this book
Professional PHP4 Multimedia Programming is an extremely handy book to have on your bookshelf, even if (and possibly especially if) you don't design and implement multimedia applications with PHP all the time. Within hours of getting the book, I realized that I could use PHP as a commandline scripting language to solve several problems. I've used it as a reference several times since, even though I do NOT consider myself a PHP Multimedia Applications developer.

The book is organized nicely. As a "Professional" book, it assumes a decent understanding of PHP. This assumption saves you lots of time and unnecessary hand holding. There is a brief PHP refresher chapter for those who aren't quite as familiar with PHP as necessary, but after that refresher chapter, you're expected to understand things. You bought this book (or will, anyway) because you already know how to program in PHP but are not familiar with the various multimedia extensions.

The next several chapters each dedicate themselves to a specific extension concept: Ming, Ming with ActionScript, GD, ImageMagick, PDFLib, and FDF.

Each chapter gives an overview of the library, it's uses and limitations, and gives lots of example source code giving examples of all the functions in an extension and how they are used together.

The next few chapters are full-fledged application case studies. Though you may not agree with the authors' coding styles, these case studies walk you through (from start to finish) several different applications to show you how the libraries can be used within the scope of a larger PHP application, not just example toy scripts.

Following the case studies are several appendices. Each appendix is a language reference for a multimedia extension. Most of the information in the appendices is found online in the PHP manual, and I, for one, find it more convenient to look it up there, but having it in the book is a nice bonus.

Another wonderful addition is a full-color screenshots gallery index, which shows you what various scripts from within the chapters should look like when run. This is great for two reasons: 1) You can "check your work" as you write the applications and sample code in the book, and 2) You can see the results of functions in the book while reading it away from the computer.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about writing even just ONE application in PHP that will manipulate any supported multimedia (Shockwave, images, PDF/FDF, etc.) The time you save by having this book as a companion will more than pay for the cost of the book.

Recommended to all serious PHP developers
Unlike most open souce projects, PHP has been blessed with many good books. Professional PHP4 is another fine book aimed for the serious PHP developer venturing to add multimedia.

There is a short refresher on PHP followed by PHP Multimedia installation. Then it gets into the nitty-gritty stuff of making it work.

I found the case studies towards the end of the book particularly helpful in mapping out a solution action plan.

Please let me know if you find this review helpful. Thanks.

Dark Angel Lives On
While the televison series Dark Angel may be gone, the story lives on in a series of novels by Max Allan Collins. The story of Dark Angel: Skin Game overlaps some of the series finale before diving into a story of its own.

The book alternates between its original plot-a murder mystery of sorts involving a transgenic tied to the early second season's plot-and the continuation of the cliffhanger series finale's plot. And if that sounds like too much plot, you should be warned that this book is full of it. You will find countless paragraphs dedicated to informing unknowing readers of how certain elements of the story came to be in the televison series. Dedicated fans of the show will have no trouble understanding these aspects as they are probably already quite familiar with concepts such as the virus keeping Logan and Max apart and the ominous breeding cult that Agent White is somehow associated with. While the book does often spend time recapping these plot threads, it does not spend so much time as to become redundant to an already informed reader.

The plot of the show is further developed, but the author has taken minimal liberties with it. One issue left hanging in the series is resolved in Skin Game, but not without the possibility of a comeback. Coming from a purist fan of Dark Angel, Skin Game is worthy to carry on the story of the television series. The show's plot is never tinkered with, and the new story feels just like an episode from the series. The one and only drawback to the book is the ridiculous amount of profanity. There is so much cursing that the dialog at times seems uncharacteristic, even for the swanky characters of Dark Angel. However, the well-developed story of the book and the massive pedestal of underlying plot upon which it stands are enough to overshadow the vulgar shortcomings of the writing, making Dark Angel: Skin Game a well-deserved success.

A great answer to unanswered questions!
Needless to say anyone who watched "Dark Angel" was left with a ton of questions when the series ended. This book helps to answer alot of them and at least free's your minds of the "what if's and how will they?" questions. I highly recommend this book to any "Dark Angel" fan. I also ask that people keep
e-mailing fox until they bring the series back.

A really good book, not only for Dark Angel fans
I really liked the book, like I liked the series! But I think this book is not only for fans, it describes the caracters quite good, without boring the series fan. I know some people don`t like the end, bec it just ended without a big story how it exactly was, but I liked the end. I think that most movies, series and books end that way, so for me it was no suprise. I really recomend this book, especially forpeople who liked the serie, so they can read what happened next in terminal City, but not only for fans!

Two Thumbs Up For Judge Goodman's Book for New Arbitrators!
As a new volunteer arbitrator for my local bar association, I found Judge Goodman's book to be indispensable in acquiring the skills and expertise for this new task. His experience in this field are excellent and he uses this experience in a question and answer format which lends itself to an easy, but extremely effective format, for new, as well as experienced, arbitrators. His hints and tips give new arbitrators the guidance and confidence necessary to lead an effective, but expedient, arbitration. This is the number one book for those new to arbitration, or those needing a review of arbitration methods and techniques.

Book Fills in the Gaps Left by Arbitrator Trainings
I first purchased and read Judge Goodman's Basic Skills For the New Arbitrator in 1994 when I began arbitrating. Having just finished reading the most recent edition, I am struck by the continuing usefulness of the detailed and practical advice contained in this book. While I have participated in arbitrator trainings over the years, they usually do not cover the nitty gritty "how to" issues this work addresses. These issues are easy to find as the Table of Contents is organized into sections devoted to each stage of an arbitration with an enumeration, under each heading, of all the questions addressed. Judge Goodman's style is clear and concise which makes the book a quick and easy read. It seems directed primarily at non-lawyers, but many lawyers, such as myself, will find in it their money's worth of advice. Personally, as much of my practice is devoted to mediation, I find reviewing the book helpful when I need to switch hats and assume a judicial (as opposed to a mediator's) demeanor. His advice in this regard, touching on body language, facial expression, and utterances, is invaluable in cultivating the proper persona of the neutral arbitrator. I highly recommend this thoughful, easy-to-read book to anyone who is starting to engage in arbitration and for those for whom it is not a weekly endeavor.

Good Information for Experienced Arbitrators, Too
As an experienced arbitrator, I am always looking for good information from those who actually are arbitrators. There are alot of books written by academics filled with theory and psychology, but this is a book by someone who obviously arbitrates for a living. As an arbitrator who is not an attorney, I found the information about dealing with attorneys, documents, objections and evidence quite helpful, as one can easily be intimidated by attorneys if they are involved in the process. The section on "Getting Paid" hit home. I too have had the experience of not getting paid by a party after the arbitration. The author's suggestion to hold the award until payment is received may sound harsh, but it certainly is sound business advice. The arrangement of the book as questions and answers, with the questions listed in the table of contents, makes this book easy to use as a quick reference. Definitely worth the price.
