Reading this book should be a pre-requisite !
I think The Ethics of the Ordinary in Healthcare should be on the "must read" list for all who work in the field of Healthcare. All too often, the "little things" that relate both to patient care and relationships of those professionals within the office are overlooked or considered not important. Actually, these are equally important as the "macro" issues in any organization are, and the consequences of ignoring the "micro" aspects of the every day routine,I think, make an enormous difference in both the effectiveness and quality of care in the healthcare organization. A heart-felt "THANK YOU" to the author for bringing this subject to light!

Forging the King's Sword: Military Education Between Tradition and Modernization: The Case of the Royal Prussian Cadet Corps, 1871-1918 (American U)
Published in Hardcover by Peter Lang Publishing (1993)
Author: John Moncure
Amazon base price: $58.95
Average review score:

Great read and well researched
Dr. Moncure has done a very fine job writing this book, based on his doctoral dissertation. Using a massive amount of primary sources and compiling statistical evidence from a database of all cadets graduated from Culm-Köslin, Dr. Moncure arrives at very convincing conclusions. The period of the research sees the cadet corps in transition between modernity and tradition. This shows in the cadet's social backrounds, the educational program etc.
Dr. Moncure describes, among other things, life in the cadet corps, reasons to join, success and failure of cadets and the role of military training.
Having read its 264 pages of main text, I had an excellent overview of the most important aspects of the Prussian cadet corps. Also, my deeper understanding of its workings, pros and cons and results were much clearer. The footnotes and extensive bibliography will certainly help readers find the sources they may need for any other specific research.
All put together, a great read and well worth the money. The fact that comprehensive texts about the cadet corps are very rare, certainly in English, makes this work even more valuable.

Where Global Currency is Headed; Excellent Book.
This is an excellent review of what has happened to, may happen to--and will happen to--the situation of Global Finance. Eatwell makes strong points about both currency in global markets, and its pejorative effects in local or regional areas. He brushes on many of the key issues concerned in golbal economic concerns, including Bretton Woods, IMF, the EC, the Asian economic crisis. In the end, he seems to suggest action of major restructuring of current currency guidelines, even to the point of 'support' for currencies or other like dimensions.

Overall, a very good book.

Absolutely indespensable book
Even if your educational background is in labor law, this book is vital for understanding the complex procedures of the National Labor Relations Board. Practicing before the NLRB is a very unique experience and you will quickly find the agency has its own way of doing things. I am a lawyer and I use this book every single time I represent a client in any kind of NLRB proceeding. It's expensive, but well worth every penny (besides, it's tax-deductible as a business expense).

"Human Resource Management"
Human Resource Management by Milkovich and Boudreau offers the readers a chance to better understand what "Human Resource Management" is and how it effects the employees within an organization. Many of the issues such as (Unions, EEO, Labor Relations, diversity and wages)give a brigther picture of how important human resource management is to an organization as well as the employees. All topics were informative, and the is writing clear and to the point. Often, I found myself picking up my book searching throughout the pages to see what's next. I found this book to be good reading material, well worth the money I spent! I would highly recommend this book to everyone interested in reading a good booK "Human Resource Management" by Miikovich/Boudreau

Institutions and Economic Development: Growth and Governance in Less-Developed and Post-Socialist Countries (Johns Hopkins Studies in Development)
Published in Hardcover by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (1997)
Author: Christopher Clague
Amazon base price: $48.50
Used price: $25.00
Average review score:

Add this to your Economic Development course syllabus.
This is a wonderful book. Clague et al cover all the bases on insitutions that foster economic growth.

This book is written well; it is laid out well; its premises and conclusions make good economic sense. Additionally, footnotes and references are easy to find, works discussed are cited in the text, and much of the information in the book offers tools for spinoff independent research by students.

This is a book that students will greatly enjoy reading and instructors will enjoy working with. For the non-student, a basic "economic literacy" is all that is needed to benefit from Clague et al's wonderful book.

An Integrated Approach to Wastewater Treatment: Deciding Where, When, and How Much to Invest (Directions in Development (Washington, D.C.).)
Published in Paperback by World Bank (1999)
Authors: Manuel Marino, John Boland, and Manuel Mariino
Amazon base price: $22.00
Average review score:

The reason I devoted my life to wastewater treatment.
When I was a small boy growing up in the slums of Lesotho, I lived under the assumption that I would follow my father and work in the mines in South Africa. It was what our family had always done, and I would continue the tradition. If you had told me back then that I would grow up to invest in wastewater treatment, I would have said "Who are you? You're crazy! Get out out of my custard!" because you would have been standing in my custard. But I would have been wrong. After I ran away from home to Copenhagen, an old friend contacted me because he had heard I was broke. He gave me this book. Marino and Boland changed my life. I went from a scared little Besotho runaway to a plump and powerful player in just one year of investing smartly in wastewater treatment. If it hadn't been for this book, I might of had to resort to selling off my body parts for food money. Thank you Marino and Boland. I love you. I will do anything you want. You can have all my money. You can live in my house. You can have my firstborn child. I thank you.
