Another winner by Devillers
Great book by a great author. (I loved his Marbury v. Madison: Powers of the Supreme Court, it is on ... also). In both books he takes potentially complicated subjects and boils them down to the important elements, and does it in an interesting and engaging way. I recommend this book to any teacher - or anyone wanting to understand learn more about history and law.

John Thorndyke's Cases
Published in Paperback by House of Stratus Inc. (01 January, 2001)
Authors: R. Austin Freeman and R Austin Freeman
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

A contemporary of Sherlock Holmes: better.
This is from memory of reading it about 50 years ago. Austin Freeman created a better detective than Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. His "Dr. Thorndyke" is Holmes with TV's Quincy added: a more logical detective who explains things better to the reader. Indeed, some of the stories are "inverted", i.e. you know who did it and how, but you follow the good doctor as he unravels the case. I wanna new copy of his cases!

The Lazarus Case
Published in Hardcover by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (2001)
Author: John D., MD Lantos
Amazon base price: $22.50
Used price: $18.51

Average review score:

Invaluable view of medical care for premature babies
This well-written, comprehensive, and deeply thoughtful book explores the issues surrounding the care of premature infants from a variety of perspectives. Lantos' own experience as a doctor clearly informs the entire book, but he also includes the voices of others, especially parents who have written about the experience of having a premature baby. By framing the whole book as an exploration of a single (fictional) medical case, he gives readers a sense of the complexity of ethical decisions that stem from a single incident. Lantos has succeeded in writing a book that speaks eloquently to non-medical readers without talking down to them. Recommended most highly.

Average review score:

Good for Healthcare Information Technology professionals
This is a very good text book if you are thinking about implementing any new information systems in your hospital may be you can go through this text book. You can choose any of the chapters according to your requirement and read them. There are very good chapters especially in how to convince the management about the need for implementation of advanced IT systems, systematic thinking about the IT systems, how to manage organizational concerns and user resistance with respect to IT, understanding social impacts and more important how to manage security and information privacy in health care. Each chapter starts with a fictional case study later there will some questions related to that, which you can answer to get very good insight into the case study and incites interest in you to further concentrate on the rest of the chapter. After which there will be some Commentary and Reading. Under Reading there are very good articles related to that particular chapter. Overall it is a very good text book for health informatics professionals.

Wonderful Collection of Pediatric Anesthetic Challenges!!
Dr. Brock-Utne has taught at Stanford for nearly two decades and in Scandinavia and South Africa before that. In a wonderfully readable fashion he brings his narrative skill and clinical acumen to bear on 47 episodes of potentially lethal changes in the operating room during pediatric cases. Each case is carefully described and the problem, its impact and the ultimate solution and its cause are described in fascinating detail.

This is a wonderfully interesting read.. Don't miss it.

A fascinating journey for some-a revelation for others!
Griest has done a great service in compiling case studies for his readers. He has successfully shown that OCD cannot be "limited" to a certain set of manifestations in every patient but is a biological disorder that can affect each person differently. Having lived with OCD and the medicines that control it since I was very young, I found this book hard to put down! Knowing what OCD is-is one thing; however, being able to experience it through the variety of patients in this book was not only a revelation but a journey into my own sickness. I rated it a nine because the only thing that could have made this book a 10--was information on a permanent cure.
