Nice clerkship companion
This was a nice companion for my 4th year I.D. clerkship. It included common infections as well as the zebras, and was well-written from true cases. Each case is brief, includes pertinent history, PE findings, labs, and studies followed by a question and a thorough answer with useful references. Not an essential, but a nice augmentation for the book-focuses learner.

Stimulating reading for new exporters.
A very interesting collection of papers, articles and case studies on international marketing and how it affects a domestic business organization. We have recommended it to our clients and they have responded favorably. The word "stimulating" was used most often to describe the content. The most common negative comments, although few, were about the types of companies discussed. They wished that there were more examples of how small companies became successful exporters.

It also contains many metaphores, useful for teaching, excercises, and transcripts of actual therapy work. It is well presented and potentially very useful, for personal change work. Not bad, with reservations
This book is a rather facile account of the murder on Nov. 23, 1849, of Dr. George Parkman, uncle of historian Francis Parkman, by a Harvard professor. This is a famous case, and this book gives all the gruesome details. Boston in 1849 was a small world and many famous persons flit thru the pages of this book: Longfellow, Melville, Charles Sumner, Edward Everett, Oliver Wendell Holmes, etc. As a true crime book I found it objectionable that the author purported to tell us what persons thought, but overall the book is not bad and holds one's interest. A shorter account of the same crime written by the famed crime writer Edmund L. Pearson can be found in the book Crimes That Shocked America, edited by Brant House and published in 1961 by Ace Books, Inc.

Mysterious Realms - a fresh look at the paranormal
This is an excellent eye opening book for anyone who is fascinated with stories of ghosts, miracles, UFO's and crop circles. It's a rare book that takes an in depth look and shows the information that most paranormal books leave out. Joe has been investigating paranormal and non paranormal incidents for years. I've heard some people nit pick individual facts that Joe may have gotten wrong, but have yet to find anything that would impugn his integrity. The book is over 200 pages with foot notes and an excellent index. Joe's background knowledge and detective skills are thorough. Joe has a whole lot of books out including a paranormal detective book for kids.

No Safe Place
I am totally into this author. I have read the 20th Anniversary Edition of "Mommie Dearest" over and over. This book has some more brief stories of Mommie, which I could listen to all day. Christina has definitely done her homework for this book, with extensive research and her own firsthand experience. Anyone looking for recommendations for Self Help books should surely give this book a try.

The Odyssey of New Religious Movements: Persecution, Struggle, Legitimation: A Case Study of the Unification Church

Great legal rebuttal to church critics
I may be biased, because I used to live and work in the same building where the author had his office, but . . .

This book explains many, if not all, of the legal issues facing the Unification Church in its struggle for legitimacy.

Just to take one aspect, the charge of "brainwashing" which has dogged the church: Biermans cites innumerable court decisions totally exonerating church members (and the church itself) of this inflammatory accusation.

One weakness of the book is that it ONLY focusses on rebutting charges. I guess being a lawyer, that's how the author's mind works, but a would have liked to see some more positive information.
