A Superb Policy Analysis
Stanley Changnon and his colleagues have written the best, and most comprehensive analysis of what really happened with the biggest climate event of the century, the 1997-1998 El Nino. What is unique about this book is that they carefully look at both the devastation that occured and the positive impacts from the mild winter -- fewer deaths from ice storms, more shopping when people went out in milder weather, less fuel oil. They also point out the places where the forecast worked, and where it had problems. As society gets more and more sensitive to weather events, we will need more thoughtful probing into how we have responded and how we will respond. This book sets the stage, and is written by experts who have analyzed other big weather events. I strongly recommend it.

The Joy of Duty?
A young pupil in post-war germany, Siggi Jepsen, is forced to write an article, because he failed in the german lesson. The theme is: The joy of duty. When thinking of duty, he is forced to think about his father, a police officer. During the Nazi Era, the so called "forbidden art" was removed by state forces. Jepsens father, in his urge to do his duty, whatever it may be, not asking about the consequences, does, whatever he has to do. Young Siggi Jepsen (10 years old) has another thinking of duty. He thinks, his duty is to preserve the paintings of the "forbidden art" of the artist Nansen and tries to conceil those sympathies from his father. This more or less silent conflict about duty is the intruiging part about the book.

what is the duty of man? What is the reaction of a small countryside town of the northernmost germany to the cruel Nazi-era? What are "normal people" like in extreme situations? This is described in Lenz'book in a very silent, innerflecting way.

Phantastic book about the real Germany
What can I say about this this book, apart from that it is an absolute must for anybody who is interested in Germany. Beautifully written, with strong characters that cover the whole spectrum of the German society. In my eyes within the top ten books ever.

My oldest possession.
It's true, this book is my oldest possession, from an earlier printing, I've had this book since the early 70's. If you are a painter and want to learn how to put space and light into your work then this book is your greatest resource and greatest challenge. For those in the know, Morandi is THE ONE for creating a palpable space in two demensions. The space shimmers and moves - it's real!

Excellent book
The prints are excellent - both in terms of variety and quality of print. I use them in classes and they are really a treasure. The text is very readable and enjoyable as well (though I care more about the print quality).

forget the review courses - do this series
Don't waste your time sitting in class for another month getting ready for Step 1. Get these books, knuckle down and do ALL of them (it will take well disciplined 7-8 hours of study 6 days per week) and you will do great. That's what I did, I'm no genius, and I still scored in the 96th percentile.

Incredible source of practice questions and great for review
This is one of the best series I have ever seen. If you are a foreign grad, you really have to know how to take these exams. This set of 5 books is a great source. I did every question and used the explanations and I did very well on the boards. A definite must have !

Excellent resource
This book helped me turn alot of heads during my OB/GYN rotation. I always found some very relevant material being pimped either in the OR or on the wards. But there was also the esoteric nonsence that I unless I was a practitioner of the art and even then I would not need to know -I read this book prior to the rotation and was able to answer the important stuff and the esoteric stuff as well. I received HONORS.

The Magic Weapon
The Questions in this book really are what are asked on rounds and during bedside examinations. Excellent to read after you have studied everything and what to organize everything in a "what could happen" scenario plan of attack. Result: lots of consultants nodding their heads.

In the beginning
This early work captures much of the mood, but not exactly the style that will be prevalent in Bernhard's later work. Written as what can best be described as one long prose poem, the storyline is drawn in fragments of conversation, emotion, images, etc. and can be hard to follow at times. However, what's distilled here is an atmosphere of clausterphobia and approaching madness that is definitely Bernhard's forte. I found it to be incredibly lyrical and poignant, and this piece has remained my favorite even after reading several of his more mature works. Maybe because of the dog (read the book!).

On The Mountain /On The Top
His earliest but already matured prose/A thin(143 pages)book made up of one towering sentence/Dis- turbing plot, problematic hero but gripping tale/ challenging but satisfying masterpiece...

I use it in my Sunday school teaching, it is wonderful.
Over the years that I have taught Sunday school I have used this book on many occasions. The words in it are simple enough for small children to say and meaningful enough for us older children to use.

Teach children about prayers.
Good for teaching children on prayers

A truly top notch book on respiratory diseases
I was sad to see that this book is no longer in print. Truly it is one of the better books in this area and should be required reading in respiratory therapist training programs. I found it was very helpful in preparing for my registry exam when I took it 5 years ago. The presentations are really clear and it makes for enjoyable reading while one is studying. I'm thrilled to have it on my bookshelf and hope that they will consider coming out with a new edition or reprinting the present one.

A Must Have Book
This book is a must have for the respiratory student. It has been written specifically for respiratory therapists and covers twenty-two commonly encountered respiratory diseases. It looks at the assessment and treatment of patients with respiratory and related diseases and emphasizes the use of case studies to illustrate key pathophysiological concepts. Each chapter focuses on one particular disease and provides information on its etiology, pathophysiology, clinical features, and treatment along with case studies and a extensive list of questions that covers the preceding material. This book is especially suited for students preparing for their credentialing examinations and clinical simulation examinations. Although the material is presented in a clear and understandable manner some may need background some courses in anatomy and physiology, diagnostic techniques, cardiopulmonary pharmacology, and medical terminology to fully understand the case reports. This is a book the student will use throughout their respiratory education.

Reviewed by Allen P. Bristow, author of THE PINKERTON EYE
This is the second book by this master storyteller that features the adventures of U. S. Marshal Oscar Schiller. The story is set during the early 1900's in the Oklahoma Indian Territory and Fort Smith, Arkansas. It is replete with the author's vivid characters and graphic situations. Jones also sprinkles much colorful history throughout the story and this adds to the reader's enjoyment. His imperfect principal character and the period chosen for the plot have a close similarity to the PINKERTON EYE. The only negative factor in the book is that it's editor repeatedly substituted "Marshall" for the correct form, "Marshal." The author, Douglas Jones, died during production of the book and probably was not involved in reading proofs. I enjoyed every page of this book and enthusiastically recommend it to others.

Transcends genre
What a masterpiece! This book is truly magnificent. Someday critics will review this historical fiction and recognize it for the great literature that it is. The audio version with Ed Sala's narration is perfection itself. Please read or listen to the audio version of this book. Great writers like this must be appreciated.
