I started to read this book and became extreamely discoraged. I don't know how those other individuals who reviewed this book could actually like it. First of all, I question the age of this material. According to information printed within this book, the most recent AAMC practice exam is #3, which was printed in 1995. I belive that this author has been using the same material for years, similar to Baron and Arco. Second, I found a great amount of irrelevent material that will not be tested on the MCAT. Why fill your head with information that is not on the MCAT. And third, I disagreed with the confusing way this material was presented. My testbooks do a more efficent job then this book. I recomend taking the princton review corse or buying the examkrakkers material. This book sucks!!

Graet for Concise Science Review
This book is great for a review of sciences. It is a bit dense but provides for a very good review with excellent practice questions. There was actually a question in the Physical Sciences section of the practice MCAT in the book that was nearly identical to a question on the MCAT I took! Very strong.

Pretty Good
I ordered this book having at least three months to study. I must say the book reviews a lot but it does fall short in some areas. It would of been a whole lot better if they would of explained the answers to the Practice Test at the end. They did provide explanations to the practice problems but not to the Big Practice Exam they have at the end, though they did provide the answers. The positives about the book is that its exactly like the exam. You get familiar with the way the questions are asked and that was a real plus when i took the test. It was as if i knew where the questions were heading.Best one out there though.

Beware: This book is an identical copy of the Betz Guide
This book is an identical copy of: Allied Health Professions Admission Test (Ahpat) : The Betz Guide (Serial)

I bought both books and am returning the more expensive one, the Betz Guide.

Not a very accurate practice exam
It had a few verbal passages that were only 2 paragraphs long. Real mcat verbal passages are not 2 paragraphs. The review material is decent but the verbal section needs work.

good review, but practice test somewhere else
This book covers many study and prep tips in detail. The information review is excellent, with many suggestions for quick hands-on learning experiments to help you grasp the material. It includes only one practice test and it did not seem thorough or in the actual MCAT format. A great book for learning/refreshing concepts, but I wouldn't use it for a practice exam.

They should be horsewhipped
No one should be allowed to sell software that cannot communicate with versions of Word that are current. This program cannot talk to Word versions developed after 1999. I contacted the company and got a smug reply, 'you should have read the box before opening it'... Caveat emptor.

If you transcribe, you need this!
I am from Information Systems at a large hospital and have been installing the Stedman's Medical dictionary CD-ROM for almost 10 years, mainly on transcriptionists' PCs and have yet to receive a complaint. The installation is smooth, and I have yet to trip it up with standard transcription medical terminology. The Drug names are current as of the CD's publication, but will begin to outdate within a year. The only problem that I have encountered is the wait time for shipping, but I think this is mainly due to the corporate shakeups at Williams and Wilkins, i. e., buying and selling the company. However, the quality, ease of setup and use, and the satisfaction it brings to a transcriptionist's face make it well worth the wait.

David Smith : Two into Three Dimensions
I ordered this book as a gift for a metal sculpture friend of mine, who figuratively puts David Smith on a pedestal when it comes to sculpture. Owning a vast number of art/art history books myself, I was very disappointed in the quality of the photographs that accompany the text. The book has a nice layout, and the quality of the photography of the plates is wonderful. The B/W photographs feel as if they were just lifted from an earlier edition. It's a poor way to start out the book. One might never get to the color plates in the back, after viewing the photography in the front of the book, and placing it back on the shelf. If the sculptures could have been re-photographed with the same care as was taken with the plates, it would have enhanced the book dramatically.

Do NOT buy this book
I wish you could give 0 stars!

I took the PCAT in October 2002 & scored 99th percentile in all categories. Do not buy this book -- it will not help you! The outline goes way too in depth. For example, it suggests that you learn the names & structures of all 20 amino acids--you don't need to know stuff like that. It goes into a lot of organic chemistry you don't need. You don't need to know the taxonomy it insists you do. Peterson's and Barron's are much more representative of the type of information on the test.

This book is a big waste of money. Get the other 2 & work some problems from a general chem text book. Take an anatomy course before the test.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE
THIS BOOK WAS NOT EVEN DESIGNED FOR THE PCAT. IF YOU READ THE COVER OF THE BOOK, IT READS "WRITING SAMPLE". THERE IS NO WRITING SAMPLE ON THE TEST. EVEN ON THE BACK COVER, IT READS "GREAT PREPARATION FOR THE VETS" OR SOMETHING. WHAT ARE THE VETS? I THOUGHT WE WERE TRYING TO STUDY FOR THE PCAT. THE OUTLINES ARE WAY TOO IN DEPTH. THE QUANTITATIVE ABILITY SECTION CONTAINS TRIG AND CAL, WHEN THE ACTUAL CANDIDATE BOOKLET SAYS THERE WON'T BE ANY ON THE TEST. IT IS AN OKAY BOOK IF YOU WANT TO CHALLENGE EVERY INCH OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, BUT NOT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO STUDY FOR THE PCAT.

Great Review....
I haven't taken my PCATs yet, I'll update this when I do, but as far as I can tell, this is a great book. It covers everything in depth and real well. I don't know what the other guys were crying about. You definitely want a study book that is either as hard or harder than the actual test? Otherwise, what good will it do you. I guess you could read a 3rd grade book on biology to study. But that doesn't help now does it. The writing sample on the cover means that there are sample passages in the book duh!! Excellent book. I highly recommend it.

Buy Kaplan's MCAT Review instead.
I hate to say this because I'm currently trying to sell my copy of this book on Amazon, but this book was not very helpful. Like the last review says, it's really just an outline with a few sample questions. Even the sample questions were nothing like what I just took, and the explanations of the answers were too brief to be helpful. There was a lot of BS about preparation and test taking strategies which was all common sense. It really seems like this book was just thrown together to make some money, not to help students. The MCAT Review book, on the other hand, was very helpful. I didn't even look at the sample questions, but I read over the organic chemistry sections the night before the OAT, and the organic part of the OAT was a breeze. I also used it last semester to study for my Chemistry final, which I aced! Obviously since it's not made for the OAT, some parts were irrelevant, but it was worth the buy.

You don't need to buy this book
I am still trying to figure out how the authors of this book managed to include hundreds pages of text with so little review material. If you are buying this book because you want a condensed review of the topics on OAT exam then don't. For all the sections except physics, and quantitative reasoning, it just gives outline and a few sample questions. You can get similar outlines for the sections when you get your OAT application. Some optometry schools also list the topics covered in the exam on their web site. You are much better off just getting out your school books or buying discipline specific review material for all the sections. If this book was the only resource you had to study for the test then you would utterly fail. The physics portion of the book has the most review material, but manages to leave out extremely important equations for linear motion, motion in two directions, torques, etc. Instead it gives cryptic descriptions of these topics which aren't very useful in an exam setting. There are a couple of theory questions on the samples exams I have seen, but most of the questions require you to substitute variables and solve equations. Also, i did the physics section of their sample OAT exam. In no way would that section ever be on the test. I have a BS in engineering and physics is one of my better subjects. I struggled with the section and was not able to finish it in the alloted time. It was very difficult and even required solving a quadratic equation to answer one of the questions. I took the physics portion of the test under timed conditions from sample exams included in the application packet and the Top-score pro software. They were more realistic to questions on a real OAT exam. It is a shame that this book is the only OAT specific book that I know of. For people who have to study for the exam at the last minute don't expect this book to be very helpful.

Pretty Good
I found this book to be a pretty good preparation for the test when I used it with my classroom notes and textbooks. I suppose it would not help people who have not had biology or chemistry yet, but is a good review. The physics section is complete enough to get you through that portion of the test by itself if you have the slightest inclination to physics. Finally (and most importantly) the practice exams in the book are harder than those on the real test, so that when you take the OAT, it seems like a cake walk. Highly recommended. 4 stars (not 5) because it is not a study but an outline of the OAT.

Good book for 1994 test
This book is a good reference if you are planning on taking the DAT five years ago. The DAT is computerized now and most of the study skills they stress have to do with note making and marking of the test itself. This is no longer possible to do now that the test is computerized. I have taken the test and I would have to say that the best tool I had to use was the Topscore Pro program. This program has difficult questions that are much closer to the actual questions that are on the DAT, plus the format is exactly the same. It is tougher than you think to go from looking at a paper test the the computerized test, SO BUY THE DAMN PROGRAM! Dont waste money on the other books available unless you need practice on the PAT. The best study guides are the textbooks you used for the classes. Review them and study what you dont remember, Orgo is mostly the first semester while the rest of the sections do cover a wide range of material. GOOD LUCK

Use only with another resource
It's is very obvious that the editors either completely ignored their job or have no idea that the DAT is completely computerized. It gives good tips on how to study and what not, but DON'T count on this book to help you do well. There are much better reviews out there. The sample tests are the best part. Other than that itn was a an okay book. Not to be used as the primary study tool.

Use with another source
I felt this book was excellent in it's preperation for the PAT section, the Quantitative Reasoning section, and also the natural science outlines. Although, I would purchase Barrons preparation for the DAT in addition to this book because it is an excellent guide for the science sections. Study and memorize these two books and your improvement will be great. And dont waste any more money!
