A MUST for everyone!
For years I have told the tale of the king, the mice and his cheese. I was so happy to find my favorite book from childhood available here on Amazon.com. I have been in search of it for years. This is a terrific book and you must get it today!!

A favorite in our household
We love this book! The artwork is excellent and inspires many funny voices and animal imitations! I read this book to my children's classrooms every year and it is a sure fire hit for every age (up to age 6 now) that I have presented it to.

Wonderfully funny fable
I remember this from my childhood and kids today still love it. The artwork is particularly hilarious. A good segue into lessons about Middle-Eastern studies.

Make Way for Lucia
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins (paper) (1988)
Authors: E. F. Benson and Nancy Mitford
Amazon base price: $29.95
Used price: $29.50
Average review score:

only luciaphiles need apply
Its all here in one edition: Lucia, Mapp, Georgy... the whole crew. No need to keep track of six different books. In addition, included is the rarely published "The Male Impersonator". Warning: this is vintage stuff and is as additive as chocolate covered cherries on a rainy English afternoon. Once you've met Benson's Lucia, you will know, for sure, the one in your very own circle. This is the crowning glory of the very under-rated E.F. Benson.

Like an English provincial "Finnegan's Wake", the minute you finish it all you really must go back and start all over again. Phooney on the Ab-Fab girls. Lucia reigns supreme and Benson is her prophet.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO JUSTICE TO THIS BOOK
I have waited a very, very long time to review this complete set of E.F. Benson's "Lucia" novels, as I knew I would not be able to do justice to this masterpiece. The characters, whom you must meet for yourself, are the marvously portrayed gentry of gentle, presumably peaceful hamlets just a short train ride away from London. There they attempt to scratch and claw their way to the top of the limited society in which they live. There is no violence or evil here, just hilarious fun as one tries to outdo the other in becoming the reigning monarch of the town's "royal family". Nobody, but nobody, does this better than Lucia. Whether she is stealing Daisy's Guru or attempting to take credit for introducing "spiritualism" to her subjects, she does it unashamedly and with aplomb! Whether she is reigning in Riseholme, unabashedly social climbing in London, or beseiging the Town of Tilling, she does it with a sense of purpose. Her life is a contest, one she refuses to lose. Winner take all, and woe to those who would oppose her! She is musical, she is magical, she is marvelous, she is LUCIA! I own several copies of this book, lest one is ever lost. I cannot imagine life without a copy nearby. There are some books from which the characters leap from the pages. This is one of those books, with a difference. This is a book into which you will want to leap! Make no mistake, once you have read "Lucia" you will be as much her prisoner as the citizenry of the towns in which she lives and rules. You will become a true "Luciaphile" and will search for others who are also so afflicted. Lucia's world is my safe haven; my escape from the mundane, the frightening and the stress of the world in which I live. It can become the same for you. This is a book you may well bequeath in your will as a cherished family heirloom. I told you I could not do it justice and I have not. Read "Lucia". You will thank E.F. Benson for his malicious, wicked, marvelous wit and the talent to share it through his novels for the rest of your life.

A treasured friend
This book has a permanent home with me wherever I go because I return to it whenever I am at a loss for something to read. I have only to pick it up and I am quickly transported to the world of Tilling and all the hilarious escapades of its residents. I love these characters!

SPECIAL & ONE OF A KIND!
These short stories kept me turning pages until I was at the end. It opened my eyes up to the small miracles God is placing in my everyday life. I learned so much about the author along the way. She has a wonderful way of looking at difficult times in our lives as...well, "Moments of Grace". It brought me smiles and tears throughout every chapter. Faith, family, and relationships seem very important to me now, because I see how these miracles work in the author's life...and find them in mine too. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a heartwarmer!

It Concerns the Madness

Author: Nancy Mercado
Amazon base price: $10.00
Average review score:

Wonderful Words
I recommend this book to anyone who loves poetry. Mercado's use of imagery and music in her work is new and inspirational. She is one of the more exciting new Nuyorican voices on the scene. Honest, clear and down-to-earth, there's no pretention here. Buy this book, you won't be sorry.

Nuyorican Poet of the People
In clear, passionate and moving poems Nancy Mercado brings us the full flavor of life. She speaks on a personal and universal level for people who are on the outside; people of all colors.

These are celebritory poems that affirm the ability of the human spirit to servive. As Piri Thomas has said of her work, "Nancy Mercado has learned that words can be bullets or butterflies, that one must say what one means and mean what one says."

It concerns the madness
It concerns the madness was real. I lost myself behind the author's passion for poetry, and her fond memories of Puerto Rico. The rhythmic flow of expressions reached down into my soul and took me "home"....

Nancy Drew's Review!
I found this book to be really good, but I would've liked it a little longer haha! HerInteractive has been coming out wth Nancy Drew games for the computer & the reason I wanted this book was because I have the game. The game was fun but there were differences between both. If it were exactly the same , then the game would be easy! Well i have to say I really liked it & in parts they really throw you off-track on who did it in the end!

Nancy has done it again!!!
Nancy goes with her friends,Bess and George, and her house keeper Hannah to help renovate an old Victorian mansion waiting to become a bed and breakfast in Los Angeles, California.Nancy goes not suspecting to embark upon such a whirlwind of a case with someone,or something, behind accidents in the mansion that cannot be explained. If Nancy doesn't solve this mystery, who knows how dangerous the next act may be.The only way to find out, is to buy this book and find out for yourself.I give this one two thumbs way,way up for the suspense that keeps you asking for more.

Good book
This was a great book the clues are fun to pick up along the way and there are many suspectes, EVERYONE!! but I think you should read the book!! It was great.

One Of The Best Nancy Drews
This review concerns the original 1946 edition and the revised 1973 edition which is similar to the original, only it is shorter. Nancy, Bess and George travel to Candleton to help one of Mr. Drew's long-time clients, Mrs. Chantrey, who has been cheated out of some of her money. While there, Nancy also learns of another mystery concerning a nearby cave along the coast. The cave is reported to be inhabited by a ghost. Whenever anyone comes too near to the cave, the ghost sounds a tolling bell as a warning to leave at once before water comes rushing out of the cave. Several people have almost drowned and one person actually did die. Intrigued by the mystery, Nancy becomes determined to learn the true secret of the cave. This is definately one of the better Nancy Drew books. The mystery is interesting, the writing is good and there is plenty of action and suspence. I enjoyed this book very much and was never bored by it at all. Something I particularly liked about this book was that Nancy actively participated in capturing most of the criminals. This is a great book that I strongly recommend to any fan of Nancy Drew.

Nancy Drew Solves A Mystery Around For Years
This was the eighth book I read, and possibly the best! When Nancy goes on vacation she ends up in a mystery. Her father isn't there yet so she goes out looking for him. She also is sloving the case of the tolling bell which tolls right before water comes rushing out. Aperson dies and a ghost has been seen the end is for you to find out.

Ancient bell
Nancy, George and Bess are bound for a week at the seashore, intending to swim, sun and relax, when they encounter a mystery. There is a cave at the edge of the sea which, when the incoming tide arrives, resonates with the deep sound of a tolling bell. Local legend has it that the bell warns anyone exploring in the cave that they have only a few minutes to flee for their lives before the water surges powerfully through the cave.

I recently read this book for the first time as an adult, and I appreciate the marvelous plotting, smooth and exact language, and finely drawn characters of author Carolyn Keene. Readers of any age will be captivated. Highly recommended.

Nancy Drew Files, No 1

This is my absolute favorite book!
This book is the best! When Nancy poses as a high school student so she can investigate small thefts, she also has to investigate her love for Ned. Daryl Gray, a handsome guy who just happens to be Nancy's contact in high school, may no more about her case than he's telling. Nancy and Daryl have immediate attraction to each other, and after a guy in the high school gets killed, Nancy's afraid she may love a killer! I won't say what happens, but, they do catch the murderer (which is not Daryl) and Nancy relizes it's Ned she loves. :) this book was a little bit romantic....and that made it rule!
