The Coolest Mystery
Rebecca Ramirez is having a slumber party. Her parents allow her only to invite eight guests. The next day she loses her party invitations and some more very important items for the party. Nancy, her friend, was willing to help her, along with Bess and George too. Some sneaky things go on before the party and during it.
Usually first books are not as good as the rest of a series, but this one seems to be very good. Actually it is the best one I read so far.

THE BEST CHAPTER BOOKS FOR AGES 5+ !...
If your daughter likes chapter books and solving puzzles; then this is a great book for her. The characters come to life and have separate personalities. The stories are simple and fun. I finish one and my daughter immediately wants another book. If I get through all the ones I order online then she wants me to re-read them. They have about 8 chapters so I make it last a week with 2 chapters on the last night. I started my daughter out when she was 3, on the old Raggedy Ann and Andy chapter books which are in reprint now. She had a little bit of a hard time going from a book with all pictures to a book where you imagine most of it. The Nancy Drew stories were a little hard to get started on because her complaint was that the pictures (1 or 2 per chapter) are all black and white drawings. I told her that she can look at the cover to see the color picture. Once she heard the first chapter, she didn't care if it had pictures or not. She was hooked. You know I liked these books so well I just bought my daughter's school a set of 10 for their library. They are really good. If you want your child to start early on reading get them started on this series. I hope that one day my daughter will be reading them to me. :o) Enjoy!

Enjoyed it!
If you like mysteries, you will like this book. It's adventerous, a little scary and fun as Nancy tries to figure out who stole the party invitations from Rebecca.

GOOD, GOOD Information !
I am in a women's investment group and we used Ms. King's book as a textbook--it was VERY HELPFUL. I would recommend it highly. After working through the book, we invited her to speak to our investment group (she lives about 150 miles from us). She came and we learned even more through her lecture.
She will return and give us more information and even do a book signing.

Perfect Investment Club Tool
This text is a Best Best for investment clubs and individuals who want a clear understanding of stock market investing. My investment group has read several other texts on investing but this one gets our vote as being the most user-friendly and informative of the bunch. We like it so much that it has become a regular part of our Club agenda.

Stock Market Investing Made E-Z
I have read a good number of books on investing and Nancy King's book is one of the best. It is well laid out and easy to understand. It is for new individual investors as well as those of us who have been doing this for a little while. I found the information on how the New York Stock Exchange works very interesting. I never knew exactly what happens after I place a buy or sell order - the author explains the whole process. I am ordering a couple more of Nancy King's book to give as gifts to friends who are interested in investing.

Storms Pass So Hang on

At LAST, someone wrote a book for the REST of us!
Storms Pass So Hang On is the kind of book you will take to bed with you -- especially on long dark nights. I was hooked by the time I finished the Prologue and the first two chapters. All chapters are mercifully short, which tells me the author understands that the attention span is the first thing to go, when you're stressed. In my opinion, this book leap frogs over the usual perky devotional book which often leaves me feeling a bit guilty if I haven't triumphed over my traumas in the first 15 minutes (with the aid of a Bible verse and a wink). Storms Pass is one delightful slice of life after another, painted with a vivid eye for detail and a total lack of saccharine. At LAST, someone wrote a book for the REST of us! I've been looking for a book like this for the past ten years. Thanks, Nancy.

I purchased several copies.
After reading the book, I purchased several copies. They make great gifts for friends who are going through struggles. The many personal stories of hope often bring just the right encouragement.

A book of inspirition for daily living.
Many examples of how God is there for us in all of or problems and everyday disappointments in life, and how he turns what could be a bad thing into good.

Touched by Adoption

Superb Collection of Adoption Stories
Ms. Robinson has amassed a large collection of work from 75 respected poets, authors and playwrights, all of whom have one thing in common--an adoption connection. Some, like the father of former basketball star Issac Berg, and myself, adopted children, many internationally. Others, like Paula Friedman of California, were birthparents. Still others were themselves adopted as children. It is a privilege to have my work included in this edition, whose writers hail from many racial and religious backgrounds, yet sing in chorus: We can all learn from one another, and from the adoption experience. Alyssa A. Lappen

Touched by Touched by Adoption
I read this book over Christmas and found it to be in keeping with the season. I enjoyed the poetry and the story "Stupid" by Sarah Freligh. I recommend this book for everyone!

Touched By Adoption
As an adoptive aunt, I found this book compelling reading. More important, my adopted niece recognized herself within the pages and was moved by the experience. This was a perfect gift for Patty, and I highly recommend it to others!

The True Story of Theresa the Most Beautiful Rose
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (2000)
Author: Nancy M. Moore
Amazon base price: $15.54
Average review score:

An Inspirational Story
I was struck by the faith and hope demonstrated by both Nancy and Theresa, as well as the love between them. It is not often that someone is inspired to take on a project like this for the next generation. I'm sure that Theresa's daughter will be very grateful that her grandmother wrote this book about her mother. Breast cancer is a devastating disease, but I feel that if women hear Theresa and Nancy's story they will be encouraged to hold their heads high and be the heroines they truly are.

Truly The Most Beautiful Rose
Nancy writes beautifully about Theresa's life and her struggle for life. Nancy also lets everyone know there is hope beyond hope. Theresa's fight was valiant and her mother's account of her whole life is a wonderful tribute. Theresa's daughter Madison will truly appreciate what her grandmother has done for her. The book very truly indicates how precious life is, and how, we as the people left behind must tell our loved ones everyday how much we love them.

A Reminder for Us All
The True Story of Theresa, The Most Beautiful Rose is an incredible journey through the life of a young woman who was taken too early from her family and friends. This account not only shares the devastating effects of cancer and cancer treatments but it sets an example of the power of love and faith. Nancy Moore has a powerful story to tell and her work is well written. This book is hard to put down and leaves the reader desperately wanting to change the ending of the book. There is a strong message here to never give up hope and to treasure each moment of life and the love of those around us all. There are lessons to be shared - never stop looking for answers and miracles, never forget to say I love you, always remember that life is a precious gift and hold onto your faith.

An excellent book. A worth-while buy.
I bought this book in 1996, and referenced it again and again. I still find it so useful on web server technology, especially on web security. A worth-while reading.

Clear as it should be
Tired of those IT books that look like help files or manuals dumps? Tired of books based on programs rather than concepts? If your answer is yes, than this book is for you. It is simply the best book about Internet/Web technology ever written, of great importance for anyone thinking of working with the Web. A must read: concepts, explanations, examples, everything as clear as it should be.

Excellent Soup-to-Nuts Reference
I thought this was an excellent book. For a newbie interested in learning the details of web infrastructure components, including SSL, this book is a solid choice. I read it a year ago and I still find it a useful reference.

The Secret in the Old Attic (Nancy Drew Mysteries)
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins Publishers (28 March, 1985)
Author: Carolyn Keene

One Of The Best Of The Series
This review concerns the original 1944 edition and the revised 1970 edition which closely follows the plot of the original, with a few small changes. Elderly Mr. March approachs Nancy seeking her help to find his deceased son's unpublished sheet music. Mr. March desperately needs the money to care for his granddaughter, Susan. Unfortunately, a thief has been secretly entering the March house and stealing whatever songs that he can find and publishing them himself. I really enjoyed this book. In my opinion, it is the second or third best of the series (I can't decide between it and The Bungalow Mystery; The Hidden Staircase is my #1). I found it to be well-written, highly descriptive, and had quite a bit of action. The climax of the book, when Nancy finally finds the music and is confronted by the thief, is perhaps the best scene of the series for its originality, excitement and suspense. The only thing that I did not like about this book, was how the thief was caught because Nancy had pretty much nothing to do with actually capturing him.

you'll relish this one
As a child I delighted in the Nancy Drew stories, and I've re-read them at various times since. "The Secret in the Old Attic" is a well-plotted, satisfying thriller in which Nancy finds the manuscripts for some songs which will help to restore the fortunes of her elderly friend, Mr. March, and his young granddaughter. Nancy's chums, plump and frilly Bess and her tomboyish cousin, George, help Nancy in her investigations. Hannah Gruen is on hand to provide cocoa and comfort. Nancy sits down at the piano and plays some of the songs, demonstrating yet another of her fine abilities.

All-American Nancy shines as she solves the mystery and brings the criminals to justice. Young readers will be entranced. Highly recommended.

A Great Book
I read a great book called Nancy Drew and the Mystery In the Old Attic by Carolyn Keene. My favorite part of the 180-page book was when Nancy Drew and her friends came so close to finding the thief. If you want to learn more about this wonderful book then go to your local library. Nancy Drew and the Mystery in The Old Attic was really a very good book! There are many great surprises.

Sing Through the Day: Eighty Songs for Children
Published in Hardcover by Plough Publishing House (1999)
Authors: Marlys Swinger, Nancy McKernan, and Brenna McKernan
Amazon base price: $24.00
Average review score:

Good book with unique songs and beautiful illustrations
This is an excellent book for someone looking for unique children's songs from a variety of ethnic origins. I did not know any song in this collection, although I am familiar with several of the poems from which some of them originate.

The CD is very helpful to hear the songs played and sung, although the style of the choir is not my favorite and I find the recordings a bit monotonous as a whole. The songs themselves are very different in style and origin, and I wish the recordings were equally varied.

For someone looking for a collection of more popular children's songs that your kids might already by singing I would recommend Singing Bee, but if you want variety and uniqueness, this is the book for you.

The illustrations are beautiful, and my daughter loves to flip through the book and make up her own songs based on the images!

A Wonderful Collection of Waldorf Songs!
Sing Through the Day is a family favorite. When I was a parent toddler leader, these songs were the basis of our group. A wonderful collection of truly Waldorf-Inspired songs, this is a great way to learn the melodies to these lovely tunes. In this newly revised edition, eighty songs from around the world are brought together in a stunning musical celebration of childhood. It's all here, from waking up in the morning, playing with puppies or on the swing, watching clouds and picking flowers, to celebrating birthdays, hearing fairytales at bedtime and dreaming of magic ponies. Excellent for Homeschooling families looking for songs! As for the lyrics, this is a veritable gold mine, with classic poems from Christina, Rossetti, Robert Loius Stevenson, Hans Christian Anderson, Rose Fyleman, Margaret Wise Brown, William Blake and many others... I highly recommend this lovely book and compact disc. ...

My son LOVES this book!
My 3-year-old son absolutely adores this book and CD. He loves looking at the beautiful color pictures and listening to me sing the songs. He has even picked up the words to many of the songs, and likes to sing along. The songs are unusual -- I had not heard most of them -- and beautiful, with lovely messages about nature and joyful living. A good change from the common nursery rhymes all children learn. There are also some games (actions) suggested for some songs. I took the book to my son's preschool and we sang songs and did the motions -- the kids loved it. I have bought four copies of this book to give away to friends and relatives.

Vanna's Afghans A to Z: 52 Crochet Favorites
Published in Paperback by Oxmoor House (1995)
Authors: Nancy J. Fitzpatrick and Vanna White
Amazon base price: $14.95
Average review score:

A great book for a more advanced crocheter.
I do not recommend this book if you are just beginning to crochet. While the instructions are fairly clear, the patterns are a bit more difficult and appear to be geared to the intermediatte crocheter. Also, if you are like me and do not enjoy(or have time for)much assembly of your afghans, I would suggest trying another book as the majority of the patterns in this book require whip-stitching and such to complete the afghan.

If you are past the beginning stages of crocheting, this book has several beautiful and fun patterns for both practical and display use. I have made two of the afghans and while they took time, they were beautiful once completed. A good book to add to your collection once you feel you are ready for a challenge.

This is a great book!
What I didn't expect from this book was the quality of the afghans that I found. I truly thought this would be a fluff-type, I'm-so-popular-so-buy-my-book crochet book. I was greatly surprised and found it a delightful and interesting book filled with lots of crochet designs that will either stump you and make you want to throw the book across the room (guilty as charged) or it will make you go across the room, pick up the book and challenge yourself to make some really great afghans that your family will pat you on the back for and make them say great things about you! (I like that part!). This book is not a disappointment!

Perfect for those of us who don't like old-fashioned throws.
This book is very easy to understand, the directions are written clearly and the photographs of the afghans themselves are absolutely beautiful. It has inspired me to make all of the afghans featured in the book. I also like this book because there are some very cool afghans to crochet and I would not be embarrased to show them off to any of my friends who are still in the 22-28 yrs old range. This is a lot of fun just to look at. I would also recommend any of the other Vanna White crocheting books as well. They are all put together very well.

The Warm Place
Published in Paperback by Puffin (1996)
Author: Nancy Farmer

Paul's Review
Have you ever read a book where animals talk and they can disappear? If not, then you should read this book.

I liked this book because it helped me understand what people have been doing to the wildlife. I also liked all of the cliffhangers in the book, too. The genre of the book is adventure/fiction because the animals do something out of the ordinary. It's an adventure book because the animals and a boy go on an adventure to get home.

Ruva is a baby giraffe that was taken from her home in Africa by the Slopes, a clan of people poaching animals and then selling them to a zoo. Ruva's attributes include being scared easier than most animals. Jubila is a boy who lived in San Francisco. Suddenly, he finds himself as a slave of the Slopes.

The author uses a lot of weird sound effects. Some words that I can't even pronounce. She writes like no author I have known. If you ever read this book, you will see what I mean. Most people might not know about Nancy Farmer yet, but if they read this book, they will probably remember her name.

Will Ruva and her friends find their way home, or will the Slopes keep them forever? To find out, read The Warm Place by Nancy Farmer.

Damian's review
Have you ever wondered what being a giraffe is like? Have you ever wondered about what you would do if you were taken from your family? I did, and so did some of the characters in this book.

In the book, The Warm Place, a baby giraffe was taken from her mother to be put in a zoo. On the way she meets a friend named Rodentus who teaches Ruva many things. Ruva left her friend Rodentus and was put in the zoo. While Ruva was resting, she saw some kids throw something into her cage. It was a chameleon named Nelson. Ruva and Nelson picked the lock to her cage, but it still failed to work. Nelson found a rat named Troll and at night, Troll picks the lock and Ruva manages to escape (with Nelson and Troll).

I like this book because it is a very well written book and I think the author (Nancy Farmer) did a great job describing it. I also like it because it isn't just an adventure book, but it's also a fantasy book and I really like the way the author wrote it. My favorite character is Troll because if Troll wasn't there to pick the lock Ruva would still be locked up in the cage. It's a great book for kids ten and over.

Will Ruva get caught? Will she escape from the zoo? If Ruva escapes how will she get home? Read The Warm Place to find out!

Katys Review
" We caught the giraffe!!!!!!!" said the slopes as they caught their aim. They had caught a little baby giraffe. How would that feel to you? Well, I know because I just read The Warm Place by Nancy Farmer.

This book is about a little giraffe named Ruva who gets captured by the slopes and brought to an American zoo. She is terrified at the crowd that comes to look at her, and being put in the cage right next to the lion's den scares her even more. She makes some great friends, which include two rats, a magic chameleon and a boy. She wishes she could go home and be with her mother again. All of a sudden she remembers her mother telling her about giraffe magic. How will giraffe magic help Ruva?
.
My favorite character in this book is Ruva because she's a little giraffe that does not know a lot about the world. My favorite part is when Nelson (the chameleon) shows Ruva how the lions won't bother him by walking into their cage and taking some of their meat.

Will Ruva ever be with her mother again and live in happiness? What will Ruva do with her amazing giraffe magic? Read the book to find out.
