Move over, Manhattan, great shopping is across the river!
My wife and I had some extra time on a combination work/pleasure trip recently. We picked up this book before leaving based on the reviews and found several places that had exactly what we were looking for. Wish Sue would publish a version for Colorado!

A great book for New Jersey shoppers
The Great New Jersey Shopping Guide has been very helpful for me. I have lived in New Jersey all my life and I still learned new places to go and new sources for shopping. This book is not only good for the serious shopper but also for those who want to try someplace new.

The GREATEST New Jersey Shopping Guide
As a seasoned shopper, I thought I knew just about every worthwhile retail destination in the state. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked up this book and discovered interesting locales even I wasn't aware of. Everything is included--from shopping malls to museum shops to gourmet food stores. Best of all, The Great New Jersey Shopping Guide isn't written in standard guidebook form, but rather includes personal anecdotes from the authors, which are quite enjoyable to read. I especially liked Sue Bruskin Clarke's tales of mall shopping in the '60s and '70s and I related to her downtown shopping experiences in towns like Hoboken and Princeton.

This book is a must have for all New Jersey shoppers.

Have You Seen My Duckling

Absolutely Enchanting. Deserves it's award
This book is filled with lovely pictures of a mother duck as she searches for her baby who wandered off.

The pictures are wonderful. The few repetitive words there are encourage my child to 'read' the book. He also loves finding the duck on every page.

I wish I could find more books like this one- simple, gorgeous pictures, a nice story with a happy ending, a lot of opportunity for other activities while you read. We find the missing duck, count the ducklings, look at the pretty colors, look for other animals and more.

A few words, and a search.
This book is about a mother duck that cannot find one of her ducklings. She goes around asking the other denizens of the pond if they have seen it. The fun thing is that, if you look, you will find where the duckling is.

There are few words in this book, so be aware of the reading level (baby-preschool). However, the artwork is very well done, and the fun of having the little reader find the missing duckling on each page makes the whole thing worthwhile.

A must for your child's bookshelf!
This beautiful book is loved by all children. It is very simple and beautifully illustrated. The little duckling is always nearby. Your children can help find him on each page. An absolute delight. Highly recommended!

Better Than Expected
When I first got started in this book, I was leaning towards three or four stars. I am not sure exactly why. I allowed that some of it may be my own personal experiences. Although I have had rough and tough times, I have never lost a child or spouse. That may have lead to me "missing something" in the text.

However, about half-way through, I really started getting something from the book. It felt like the author was really opening up to what was really going on. Perhaps it was just my perceptions that were changing, but it felt like the author was leading on a journey to a more enlightening relationship with God. Her reliance on God had been clear, but it seemed to be more real in that she could really mentor the readers now.

I imagine that if you are in a similar situation, the book would be even more helpful while not being preachy or an intensive theological research into the topic -- friendly and open.

This book offered incredible comfort and understanding
I read this book only weeks after losing my son due to a stillbirth. His heart stopped beating only 1 day before he was to be born. This book gave me so much comfort, hope and understanding during those very difficult days when I was in shock and disbelief. The author relates one's loss and hurt to the experiences of Job in such an incredible and practical way. She devotes chapters to understanding despair, blame, and the question of "why did this happen?" to name a few. This was by far the most helpful and comforting book I have read to help me get through the grief process. It gave me hope and strength, amd helped me to understand that God has a divine plan, even during our times of suffering. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone experiencing the loss of a child, or any loved one.

Beautifully Explains Why God Allows Suffering In Our Lives
I bought a copy of this book yesterday afternoon at my local Christian bookstore to give to my niece whose unborn baby has been diagnosed with a chromosomal condition which as her doctor puts it, is not conducive to life. Even though I knew this book was written with people who have already had a loss in their lives in mind and my niece's baby is still alive in her womb, I thought that it might be something to help her and her husband better understand why God allows suffering in believers' lives.

Before giving it to my niece however, I decided to read it myself to make sure it was appropriate and that it conveyed what I believe and feel. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop and I read it all the way through.

I have just mailed the copy I bought yesterday to my niece and I have just ordered three more copies from Amazon. One is for myself, which I plan to read again and then lend out to family and friends, and two are to have available as gifts.

While reading this book will be of comfort to anyone experiencing a tragedy in their life, it can be very helpful to friends and family members of this person as well. So many times we want to be there for someone in pain, but we are afraid to upset them even more by either saying or doing the wrong thing. Since this book is written from the perspective of someone who has survived a tragic loss in their life, the reader gains insight into what the author found to be the most comforting and the most hurtful things said and done by others during her grieving period.

Therefore I highly recommend this book not only to anyone who may be experiencing a tragic loss in their life, but also to the friends and loved ones of such a person.

Great book; problem binding
A good workbook and reading/reflection book on grief. It fits the subtitle "transcending grieving." I use it with other mother's who have lost children, but it appeals to all kinds of grief issues. There are opportunities to just pick the book up and let it open to a page for inspiration, workpages and activities for thoughtful reflection, and passages of people's stories to aid in the reader's own journey. It comes with a concentration on growth instead of loss through the process of death. One reading this understands they are not alone on this road through the thoughtful anecdotes related on these pages.
When I received mine, the binding was broken on the contents and one of the later pages of the book. The message of the book is intact even if the pages are not.

best book on grieving process I have read
I love this book, it made me cry and laugh. I understand the feelings I have beeen going through for the past 3 years.
Sylvia and Nancy are a good writing team. I will keep this book close and find comfort in it when needed.

Dealing with grief?
If your dealing with grief this is a good book to read. As always Sylvia's humor livens up her books and all of her books are great! This one lets you know that what you are feeling is okay and don't judge yourself what you are feeling when you ride the dark horse of grief. Both her and her daughter in law have alot to offer when dealing with the loss of someone you love. Mine was my son Jon.

Layoff Survival Guide: The Ultimate Guide to Managing the Transition from Pink-Slip to Paycheck

A Very Worthwhile Investment
I received ample notice and a generous severance package from my employer. A forced job search took longer than I anticipated and I went through money much faster than I anticipated. Nancy Collamer's book, Layoff Survival Guide, provided a wealth of information. It reinforced the approach I was already taking and suggested directions I had not considered. The website links in each topic saved countless hours, leaving more time for networking. She covers the job search "must do's" and also provides a checklist for practical items such as COBRA, unemployment benefit, 401-Ks and funding your search. Purchasing this book is a small price to pay for a complete, well-organized and handy resource guide.

complete and practical
The layoff survival guide is something everyone should read. It is complete and practical advise with plenty of pointers to additional information.

I coach people in transition and have read almost everything published on the subject.

Great Resource
This e-book is the most effective tool that I have discovered in my job search. It is comprehensive, yet very efficient in laying out a roadmap for managing this process. Nancy's style is practical, with a touch of humor; both positive and realistic. This guide is a wonderful resource for anyone in a career transition!

Welcome to Mossy Creek
"Welcome to Mossy Creek the town you can count on ain't goin' nowhere, and don't want to" with these words you get the flavor of life in the small southern town of Mossy Creek. The people are fiesty, funny, sad, and loving. Each chapter is a different character's story. You learn the history of the dispute between Mossy Creek and the nearby town of Bigelow. Each chapter becomes a story unto itself while characters overlap occasionally in the tales. From Miss Ida, the guardian/mayor of Moss Creek who will go to jail rather than put up a new welcome sign outside of Mossy Creek (afterall it was written by a Bigelowan!) to Casey, an Olympic hopeful whose dreams are dashed while returning from her elopement, due to a car accident which leaves her paralyzed from the waist down, you will laugh and cry with the inhabitants of this marvelous town. Come on for the ride and enjoy a few moments in Mossy Creek. It is a fast read and powerful in its emotions.

Great book ....
I thoroughly enjoyed this book - lots of fun, quirky characters. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Laugh Till You Cry!
I read this book because I love Deborah Smith's work. I figured at least her stories in the book would be fantastic. I laughed so hard with the first story my husband finally asked me to share the joke. And it just got better after that. I can not wait for the next book to come out! The characters were all fun and lovable. It made me wish my small town was a wee bit smaller, Southern and full of Mossy Creekites!

Relying on Fundamentals - Back to Basics
One of the best and most informative pieces on fundamental investing. A well written, step by step overview of how to look at and analyze a company's future prospects, while not paying too much currently. Following this formula will certainly help readers outperform overall equity indices, over long periods of time. A wonderful strategy for retirement plans, college savings accounts, and any fund with a time horizon of three years or more. What you will learn from this book is how to find those companies that have become fallen angels; once the high flyers, now the value stocks, and how to assess there future prospects.

When All Else Fails - Go Back To Fundamentals
One of the best pieces on fundamental investing ever written. This is more than just a "story" about what an accomplished investor has done throughout her career. It is truly a roadmap for creating a disciplined investment strategy; one that works now, has worked historically, and will continue to work through any market environment.

Breaking away from some of the more traditional and over simplified strategies involving just dividend analysis, this "New Era" approach allows an investor to slightly broaden the "universe" of stocks to capture those with slightly higher growth potential.

This type of strategy is appropriate in every investor's portfolio. For institutional investors, this could be your core strategy. For individuals, this discipline can become your overall governing approach to reviewing stocks.

This book is well written, easy to understand, and is complete with charts to help explain the very detailed points Ms. Tengler makes throughout the book.

Highly recommended to all investors, even to those interested in technical analysis.

Amazing insight into market inner workings
I am a professional investor and have read most books on the market. This book is in a category with the Bible--Graham and Dodd's. To get as much info in one book was areal accomplsihment and testimony to the author's knowledge of the behavior of company's income/balance sheets as wellas the workings of the market. She has accomplsihed an incredible feat.

I have read alot of devotionals and many books encouraging the reader to have quiet time with the Lord. But this one is the best yet! If you already have a daily established time set aside for you and the Lord, it will make you guard it even more. If you have not yet begun, you will be excited to do so and wonder why it has taken you so long!

Full of rare jewels, overflowing with treasures; reading this along with your journal is a must! You will not only record great finds from within the book, but also from within your relationship with the Lord!

Quintessential Teaching on the Quite Time
This is an excellent book from one of the great Christian women of our day. I have found this book so encouraging and instructive. Though it was written primarily for women, I have found great help in it. I think every Christian would benefit from the practical Biblical teaching that Nancy DeMoss gives. Very few, if any, leaves are left unturned. Extended time is given to issues such as obstacles to overcome, dealing with distractions, preparing our hearts for devotion, time in the Word, and both praise and prayer. Each chapter ends with a "Making It Personal" section, giving a list of application questions, and a testimony relating to the devotional life from other Christian women such as Elisabeth Elliot, Joni Erickson Tada, and Kay Arthur.

This book has added meaning to me, because I was on staff with Life Action Ministries for three years and know Nancy DeMoss personally. Her testimony regarding her father's consistency in daily devotions had an impact on me in 1994. I also remember her own personal testimony in 1995 when the Lord did a lot of the ground-breaking work in her life in this area (this book being one of the results!). She is a special Christian woman with a special message to ladies of this generation. Men, this would be a great gift for your wives! (Ladies, reading and applying this would be a great gift to your husbands!) Highly recommended!

Best book I've read on having a devotional life!
Okay, I finished this book! You'll find my initial review below - I was the first reviewer of this book. This book has impacted me more than any other book I've read on the subject of having daily Quiet Times with the Lord. If you need to be convinced of the need for this in your own Christian walk, or you need to get back on the path, please read this book! Nancy Leigh DeMoss does such an outstanding job with this book. Chapter 6, entitled "The Hard Thing for me is..." discusses many "excuses" or things that stand in the way of having productive daily devotional times. The author addresses all these issues and gives really practical and helpful suggestions, all the while giving examples from her own life.

One of the women in our small group Bible Study had been to a Women's Conference where Nancy Leigh DeMoss spoke on this issue "Devotional Time: Duty or Delight" and she came back and told our group about it. I was already reading this book and after hearing about the conference and looking at my book, every woman in our group wanted the book for themselves and already several of them are reading it and reaping the benefits of a closer walk with the Lord! Nancy, when are you writing another book?

Lucia in London (Make Way for Lucia, Part II)

I like Lucia in the country
I prefer Lucia in the country, though it is fun to see her get her comeuppance so regularly. Using her best social-climbing instincts and refusing to be embarrassed, Lucia sets out to conquer London and mingle with the beau monde. Soon a secret group of "Luciaphiles" springs up; the social climbers who make up its rank never tire of watching her get into and out of all kinds of trouble.

Utterly delightful
Continuing the extraordinary adventures of Lucia, Benson's delightful story is full of the gossip and social-climbing one comes to expect of Lucia. Peppino, Lucia's husband, inherits a fortune and a house in London after the death of his aunt. Lucia has been the queen of all of Riseholme for ages, with her court including her best friend Georgie, an eternal bachelor who embroiders. When she ascends to London, Riseholme is bereft and feeling slighted, but soon they plot their revenge. Unfortunately for them, Lucia conquers London's high society and overcomes all obstacles in her path to greatness. But can Lucia keep up the pace of London society? And does she plan to desert her beloved Riseholme forever? The Lucia series, beginning with "Queen Lucia", is a delicious concoction of maliciousness and snobbery that will convert any reader.

Luciaphils!
This is the ultimate book for social climbers everywhere - Lucia the Queen of the tiny town of Riseholm goes to London and takes the town by storm.

This is such a brilliant story - absolutely hilarious - full of the beauty of social sycophancy and insincerity. Everyone knowing what is going on except Lucia who is (almost always) triumphant.

When Lucia's husband's aunt dies they are left with a house in London (and when the news is received in Risehome much calculation is doneby everyone based on no real facts at all.) It is up to Lucia's sidekick, Georgie, to wheedle the news out of her about the house in London and the income.

Lucia, who has always stated how she loathes London has now (very reluctantly you understand) decided to go to London for the season. Her departure from Riseholme however has a number of effects - the first being the power vacuum in Riseholme itself, and secondly she really does end up taking London by storm. Even the most vague of acquaintances of hers are treated as close bosom friends and called by their first names and name dropped shamelessly by her everywhere. This goes on till there is a firm group of Luciaphils in London who are so astonished and appreciative of her powers as the Queen of Social climbing that they establish an informal club to help her and to admire her mastery at work.

In Riseholme life does not go on without Lucia, it goes on firmly DESPITE her - everyone is determined to make a success of their village in her absence to show how much she is not at all needed there. There is the museum to establish, and then Daisy Quantock has helped them all discover the Ouija Board and the powerful spirit Guide (Abfou). They spend a great deal of time 'weedj-ing' for signs of what to do next.

If you haven't discovered Lucia novels yet, you must - Benson writes wonderful sardonic stories full of the small, pettiness of village life and its power struggles. This is wonderful light, laugh out loud stuff.

Millennium madness is the best!
i loved this book! The excitment about if Sabrina will get to make the new clack was intense! The twlve short stories were different, so they were really fun to read. I think even the beginning is already totally interesting, so you are automatically pulled right into the plot. GREAT BOOK!

Spellbinding!!!
I think that this is one of the better Sabrina novels. It is fairly long, which makes for a thrilling page-by-page story. After a short introduction (roughly 20 pages) you get to the different sections. What happens is that The Great Clock of the Other Realm is wearing out and it will stop at midnight! If that happens, then magic will cease to exist. While the Witches Council tries to repair the clock, Sabrina knows that she must build a new one. And so, with the help of Salem, she travels through time to the 12 most important events in history. She meets many people like Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth. The reasons for this rating is because of how Nancy Holder puts a time limit on Sabrina's quest which make the story more exciting and for it's great plot and suspenseful mini-stories through out the book. Overall, this is a great book that should be bought by everyone!

Madness!
This was actually quite good for a Sabrina novel. I enjoy them long, and this one was long enough. It starts out when Sabrina discovers that the Great Clock in the Other Realm is going haywire and that if it breaks down at midnight on New Years Eve, witchs all around could loose their powers for good. Frantically, the witch's council tries to fix it, but Sabrina decides to build a new one instead. To do that, she has to travel to 12 magical times in history. I won't mention them all, but I really liked the part where she went back into colonial times and when she met Queen Elizabeth, even though it only lasted a page. Buy this book. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
