The best book for anyone who has lost a child
Joanne's book "Dear Cheyenne" is the best book for any parent who has experienced the loss of a child. It has been my experience that only those who have experienced this type of loss are the only true writters who understand. I personaly perfer to read books by those who have been there rather than those who just study about it. Joanne defintely shows real emotion while writting what she feels about her little girl's death,I found strength in reading this book and would recommend it to anyone who goes through this.

This says it all
The book is healing for those of us grieving the loss of our child; I wish I could also give it to everyone close to us to help them understand. The journal entries honestly, emotionally express the feelings that continue long after the seasons have changed or younger children have joined the family. This book is for anyone who needs to know what they're feeling is normal, and it is for anyone who is struggling to understand what a daughter, sister, friend is living through following a loss like this.

Joanne Cacciatore's,book is just wonderful!!!!!
Joanne writes her book from the depths of her heart, she feels so much love for her child and can vebalize it the way all beareved parents would like to be able to. I truely don't think I've ever read a book that touched my heart and soul as Dear Cheyenne did. While very hard to read thru my tears,I really didn't ever want to get to the end of it .I hope Joanne keeps giving all of us the support she has shown us in her writings,We need more wonderful people as she to help us go thru our grief. Thank you joanne!!!!!

A patient's point of view
I'm not a doctor, but I'm often a patient. This book has shown me how to communicate better with my doctor. In fact, I think it has excellent and helpful information for everyone, as we all try to make others understand our desires and comply with them.

JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR SHOULD ORDER-FOR HIMSELF!
THIS BOOK IS FABULOUS, A MUST READ FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AND PERSONNEL. DESMOND UNDERSTANDS PATIENTS' NEEDS AND FEARS ONLY TOO WELL AND PASSES THE INFORMATION ON CLEARLY AND CONCISELY. I RECOMMEND IT FOR PROSPECTIVE PATIENTS (MOST OF US) SO THEY WILL BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE PROBLEMS AND MISCOMMUNICATION. BRAVO TO THE AUTHORS!

A Must for All Members of the Medical Profession
This book is a first. It provides an intellegent, thorough insight on how best to communicate with patients. Most impressive to me was the fact that it was loaded with information, and yet was a very easy read. The use of actual stories brought the message to life, and demonstrated how well the authors knew the practical value of communication skills. I will be interested to see other professions start using this book.

Dear Cheyenne - Great!
Dear Cheyenne is an amazing book. This book is a wonderful book for any bereaved parent or grandparent. The depth of the writing is intense and so healing.
As a Christmas gift one year I gave 10 of my friends this book and they all loved it.
I recommend this book for everyone to read who would like to learn what it is that bereaved parents go through.
Thank you Joann, for sharing your precious daughter Cheyenne. She truly is "Too Beautiful For This World!"

An incredible book of grief , but most of all, of love
I read this book on a flight from Arizona to Mexico City. I just couldn't put it down!!! I've read it frequently after that.

Having read many book for bereaved parents, I have found that "Dear Cheyenne" is one of the best.

Joanne has the gift of putting into words all of the feelings most bereaved have. I am honored to know her personally and to know sweet Chey through her mother's writing and love for her. If you are a bereaved parent this book is a must, it will help through the grief journey.

This book will touch your heart and soul like no other...
Through her journal and poetry, Joanne has eloquently put into words the feelings of intense, debilitating grief, through the healing and hope that so many parents experience when their child has died in a way no other book does. It speaks to the bereaved parent's soul giving comfort and a feeling of normalcy in a time when parents feel anything but normal. It provides comfort in knowing that someone else walked this path before, had similar feelings, and came through okay in the end. "Dear Cheyenne" offers a light at the end of a dark, frightening tunnel. It also shows how helpful healing through volunteerism can be. As a parent goes through their grief journey, they can re-read this book and they will take away something new and comforting each time. It is a great book to give to the families and friends of bereaved parents, as well as professionals who have contact with grieving parents, to help them understand them to what a a parent goes through and how to be of help to them.

Makes you love that unusual yellow flower
This book is a wonderful array of recipes, stories from people's experiences with that awesome little yellow flower that most people would like to obliterate, and whispy illustrations done by an extremely talented artist. Joanne has such a wonderful flow to her writing and you begin to love that dreaded yellow flower that pops up in our yards. I started the book and couldn't put it down. I wish everyone could read it and enjoy the many aspects of this lovely plant.

Beautiful...lyrical--fall under Joanne's spell!
Joanne Henry has an enchanting writing style. She will bewitch all who read Dandelions Are Free easily and completely. One will NEVER regard the dandelion in the same way again. Joanne is a gifted writer and researcher, a gentle soul whose own tender feelings about the plant are obvious on every page. Yet her writing also invites the the reader to share in the dandelion's special magic. I feel privileged to have my own work wrapped within hers.

Delightful book!
I bought my first copy of this book at a book fair in New York. The lyrical text of the introduction invites you into the delightful world of dandelions and excites your curiosity about the plant. I bought 3 as gifts for cherished friends who adore the book.

This Book Should be in every kitchen
If you don't have this book your missing a great reference. It is the best, most easy to use book in the kitchen. I just ordered 2 more for gifts. Its a great house warming gift (what we got it for). Its not a cookbook it a reference book that just about covers everything.

Every household needs a copy!
I can't even remember how many times I've accessed this book to answer questions, prepare something properly, find a substitution, or fix a disaster. Makes a great gift for a young person setting up his or her own household, but parents beware: If you wanted your kid to call you more often, they'll have to do so less if they have this book!

A Staple for Every Kitchen
A mark of a good cookbook is how worn it is (and how splotchy, flour-y and bendable) My Kitchen Companion is covered with flour, oil spots, and opens right up to the Basic Pancake recipe.

Polly Clingerman is a marvel at explaining the most simple recipes without being patronizing (like for scrambled eggs) and the most ingenious delicacies without being complicated (like delices savoyardes). This book has saved me many frenzied trips to the grocery store because she includes many substitution tables (how to convert all-purpose flour into self-rising flour, for instance). It's also saved many meals that could have been ruined by adding too much salt or baking too long (she recommends adding a lot of whipped cream to burned desserts!).

All in all, this has been a tremendous resource in every sense of the word, filled with over 100 yummy recipes and many more cooking tips. I can't wait to see what else she has written.

A steamy read!
Madeline Watson wants to study human-mating rituals...and who better to study with than her good pal Cal Turner. But Cal can't have a scandal, and a scandal is just what he'll have if word gets out he's dating a grad student. There's too much at stake to risk. But maybe there's too much at stake not to?

Joanne Rock writes a steamy story with "real" people who will not only delight you, but move you!

A wonderful romantic comedy!
Maybe it's the setting, my alma mater--the University of Louisville campus--but I felt right at home with these characters. A hunk trying to live a responsible life and a responsible bookworm trying to break free of her image. It's an academic experiment that quickly runs out of control. I'll never look at a car wash again without thinking of this book! Joanne Rock is one fine writer, one to watch.

Loved this book!
Cal and Maddie's story snagged my attention from page one and held it all the way through a one-sitting read. What an awesome story with great characters! Cal's sister Allison is esepcially fun with her mall addiction. Joanne Rock stories are now definitely on my auto-buy list!

Anne of Green Gables
"I'll try and do anything and be anything you want if only you'll keep me." This is how "Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery begins.
Anne Shirley is a twelve-year-old girl who is brought to Green Gables only to find they were expecting a boy. The Cuthberts however, are one over by this queer, imaginative girl with bright, red hair and decide to allow her to stay.
Green Gables is a lovely, little farm just outside of a small town on Prince Edward Island called Avonlea. It is surrounded by fields and forests, which hold many surprises for adventurous Anne.
Throughout this book Anne's fierce temper and wild imagination often get the better of her, but she usually manages to squeeze out of these scrapes.
Anne's melodramatic nature and fiery temper keeps you interested as you read this marvelous book.
Montgomery's humorous writing style gives life to the characters so that you feel like you are meeting them in person.
I think that this was a wonderful book filled with humor, drama and tears. I would recommend this book to anyone that has ever had a dream and loves a good book.

The best book in literary history
first of all, let me begin with I LOVE THIS BOOK! I have read this book more times than I can remember...easily more than a dozen...thus, I am going to set my mind to write a glowing review of it.

This book portrays a stunning sketch of Canadian History and Culture in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The character personalities are so real and so amazingly "human" that one cannot help but fall in love with them. You really get a taste of PEI in its glory.

This story is set in Avonlea, Prince Edward Island (Canada), a fictional settlement which is really Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, the place where Lucy Maud Montgomery, the author grew up.

The main character is Anne Shirley...and eleven year old, enigmatic, imaginative, sparkling, highly intelligent orphan who is sent to Green Gables, a farmhouse in Avonlea, under the impression that she was to be adopted by a pair of elderly siblings, Matthew and Marilla Cuthburt. But, apon arrival to Green Gables, Anne discovers that there had been a horrible mistake...the Cuthburts never wanted a girl...they wanted a boy who could do the chores and help Matthew with the farm. Anne was was in the "depths of dispair". Matthew, on the drive home from the train station had taken a great shine to Anne and had his heart set on keeping her, regardless of any mistake. Marilla, however, was not so easily enchanted. She agreed to let Anne stay at Green Gables on trial, to see if she would behave herself and lend a helpful hand to Marilla. After the trial, Anne is welcomed to Green Gables and flourishes under the love of the Cuthburts and all Avonlea folk. Anne, however, has one big problem. Her Hair. It is a hopeless shade of carrotty red and Anne felt that it was the ugliest hair anyone could imagine. She was extremely sensitive about it and she was horribly embarrassed about it. On her first day of school, Anne's hair was made fun of by Gilbert Blythe, the smartest and handsomest boy in school. "Carrots! Carrots!" he said. Anne's temper got the better of her and she was so angry she broke a slate over his head. After that, for many years, she snubbed Gilbert every time he spoke to her and he developed a boyhood crush on her.

Ah, but to keep this review interesting and the book mysterious, I will stop telling you the story and begin reviewing. The characters in the book are so well-defined that it seems to you that you know every character personally, like an old friend or neighbour.

And by all means, don't let the age recommendation fool you either...this book can be read by all ages alike...and I have no doubt that this book will still be my avid favorite at the age of 85.

The book is not boring, contrary to many opinions of those who read the first chapter of small print and historical settings. The discriptions will place you right into the heart of the story and you find you will laugh and cry while reading this story. Every time I read it I cry at a certain part which I'm not sure if I should reveal to you for fear of spoiling the good parts in the story, but it is dreadfully sad. If you read the book, then you will know what part I am talking about. The one saddest part in the whole story.

Although this book has some old ideas and ways of expressing them, you will learn a great deal of Canadian history through them and there's no doubt in my mind that this book will still be popular decades and most likely even centuries to come.

A must read for every girl, young or young at heart
Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favorite books. Anne is a person almost everyone can relate to in some way or another. Anne is launched into the "depths of despair" as soon as she finds out the horrible truth that the Mathew and Marilla really sent for a boy from the orphanage. Her fiery temper gets the better of her at some of the worst possible times. Such as when she vows that she will never forgive Gilbert Blythe for calling her carrots, as if smashing a slate over his head is not enough. This is a wonderful book that L. M. Montgomery has really shown her skill as a writer and novelist in. I have read the entire Anne of Green Gables Series and am also, like another reader, saving them all for my daughter some day. If you want a book that you can thoroughly enjoy, this is the one, although I have one warning that you may have a hard time putting it down.

wonderful story of survival
Haddix tells a story that immediately captures the reader's interest. Many of Tish's concerns are "typically" adolescent-- school, job, sexual harassment--as well as one that is not at all typical. Tish's mother has abandoned her and her younger brother Matt. Tish is trying desperately to do the child-rearing that her mother should be doing. When her English teacher assigns a journal, Tish is sure she won't write at all, but once she starts, she finds writing cathartic, especially since Mrs. Dunphrey keeps her word and doesn't actually read anything that the girl tells her not to read. A totally happy ending would be unrealistic, but there is hope that Tish and Matt will have a better life.

A great read that will open your eyes to the hardships of a not so ordinary teenager.

Dont You Dare Read this Mrs. Dunphrey
The book "Don't You Dare Read This Mrs. Dunphrey" was great. The author Margaret Peterson Haddix. Every page in it was told as if it was a journal. It was a socialogical social class type of book. It was about a low class family that didn't have a lot of money. The main character Tish has to write 3 journal entries a week for her english class. The teacher said that if she didn't want her reading them to mark don't you dare read this Mrs. Dunphrey. While doing school work she also has to take care of her brother, work, and keep her friends. I enjoyed the book alot although I thought that it kind of ended quickly. It was at the climax and then it just ended all of a sudden. I would recommend it to any kids, boys or girls from 12 to 16. .... Check out this book if you want to know.

A BOOK TEENAGERS WILL REMEMBER
This is an excellent book for teenagers to read. Not only is it fast reading, but it also deals with family problems and trust. Tish Bonner is a 10th grader who is abandoned by her parents and is left to raise her little brother, Matt. Her english teacher, Mrs. Dunphrey, has everyone in her class write a daily journal. The teacher told the students to write "Do not read this" on the entries they didn't want her to read. On her private "Do not read this" pages, Tish takes a lot of risks and talks about her many problems trying to earn money and raise her brother. When Tish asks Mrs. Dunphrey to read her private journals at the end of the school year, it is Tish's way of reaching out for help, which Mrs. Dunphrey gladly gives her. I liked reading this book because Tish never gave up, even when things were awful. It also helps the reader realize that we can't do everything by ourselves and sometimes we need to depend on others to help us out.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Veganism ...
When my wife and I decided to go vegetarian in early April, 2001, we really had no plans on cutting out all animal products from our diets (eggs, animal milk, dairy cheese, etc.), but after reading more than one of Joanne Stepaniak's books, we committed to the more extreme step just days after we became vegetarians.

Who is Joanne Stepaniak, you ask? After writing at least a half dozen excellent Vegan cookbooks, and now authoring this unique sourcebook (I don't think there are any such others), Stepaniak has become one of America's most famous and authoritative Vegans. And with good reason! This impressively comprehensive survey should be subtitled "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Veganism ... But Were Afraid to Ask" and it's an amazing and engrossing read for Vegans and non-Vegans alike; I should know -- when I started on Page 1 I was not a Vegan ... well before I finished the book, I was.

Stepaniak covers the entire gamut of Veganism from the elimination of animal flesh and products from our diet (for health reasons, for environmental reasons, for moral reasons) to the total elimination of animal byproducts in other areas of our lives. But Stepaniak is also a realist who repeatedly recognizes the futility of taking such an ethic too far -- and she continually reminds her readers to see the forest for the trees (a refreshing characteristic sadly lacking in similar literature). And never for a moment did I detect any aggressive proselytizing, any holier-than-thou attitude, unlike other books on similar topics. Stepaniak's greatest trait is her ability to balance compelling arguments with gentle compassion and understanding and this is evident on every page.

To anyone interested in improving life on this planet, including their own, I can't recommend this book more highly.

An Essential Book for all Vegans and Vegetarians
this book has been on my shelf for about a year now and i *constantly* go back to re-read sections, and get recipes. the author appeals to both the rational and emotional aspects that come into play when one considers veganism, and she backs both up well.
drawing upon various reports and surveys, she presents staggering figures in support of a global vegan lifestyle. she covers economic, environmental, psychological, and personal reasons to make the change, and then lays the process out step by step. how to go vegan, tips on keeping the lifestyle, places to shop compassionately, delicious, easy recipes to try, and debunking popular myths are just a few of the things accomplished in the book.
there are many quotes from famous veggies, and animal right activists that are inspiring and touching. there are also stories from well known (and not-so well known) vegans that help to bring the point home.
for the health conscious there is a huge section on nutrition that breaks down the vegan food pyramid (yes, that's minus the dairy and meat sections!). it lists foods needed for vegans to achieve a nutritious daily intake of vitamins and other essential goodies. daily sample diets for everyone, from infants, children, teens, adults, and the elderly.
if i haven't made it perfectly clear, this book really is an essential for anyone who is interested in a vegan lifestyle, as well as those who care for animals, the world they live in, or their own health and well being. this is a clearly and lovingly written book, and can easily give anyone the mass majority of vegan info they would ever need. of all the other vegan books i own, this is definitely the most useful and my favorite.

Wonderful, informative, inspiring
Having had a difficult couple of years since my son was born and my husband left me, I was living as a vegan on "autopilot" but no longer had that feeling of passion for the subject that I used to. In fact, when people asked why I don't use dairy products, I would mumble something vague, so lost in my other worries had my veganism become.

_The_Vegan_Sourcebook_ has got me feeling inspired again. In an intelligent, compassionate way, she neatly summarizes all of the problems with animal products--the cruelties done to the animals, the environmental devastation, the oppression of the human workers on factory farms and in slaughterhouses (a subject omitted from many other vegan books), and the damage to health. Not only does she discuss the negatives of animal products, she emphasizes the positives of veganism, with inspiring quotes from a diverse array of vegans which really humanize the vegan movement.

The nutrition section by Virginia Messina is positive but realistic, with all the information you need to plan a sound vegan diet for yourself and your family (though I would have prefered more emphasis on the importance of breastfeeding). This is a book that vegans will want to refer to again and again, and show to their nonvegan family members, friends, and health professionals.

Good and Angry: Exchanging Frustration for Character in You
My children are 13, 11, and 9. I have read many excellent parenting books,
but feel that Dr. Turansky and Joanne Miller, R.N., B.S.N. have captured a new yet simple,
wise and practical method for training children. All of this in an easy to read book, Good and Angry: Exchanging Frustration for Character in You and Your Children. Good and Angry first helps the parent examine their own attitudes,
and then gives them a few simple tools to effectively raise kind,
considerate, sensitive, and loving children.

I especially enjoyed chapter 7, "They're So Annoying". It was refreshing to
know that other parents struggle with children who "seem oblivious to the
feelings of others, continue to pester, speak without thinking, and are
overly silly by pushing, grabbing, teasing, and joking". This chapter
explains that I can teach my "annoying child" self-control and sensitivity
by raising the awareness level of the annoying behavior, by keeping
character in mind, by praising the child in the process of correction, and
by developing tolerance when necessary. I have begun to use this simple
method, and feel less anxious and sense a strengthening relationship between
myself and my child.

This is not a book you read once and put away to collect dust. It is one
that you need to read over and over again. Good and Angry is a great book
if you want to replace bad patterns of discipline(reacting in anger) with
gentle, wise methods.
Dr. Turansky and Joanne Miller, R.N., B.S.N. have written this book from a
Christian perspective, but it's content is not religiously offensive. The
methods can be used by people of any faith.

Getting to the Heart of the Matter
As the mother of seven children, ages 1 to 13, I have read many parenting books, both secular and religious. Good and Angry is one of those rare books that offers the right blend of theory and practice. Turansky and Miller offer sound parenting advice based on solid biblical principles of mutual respect, kindness, and a proper view of authority. Beware -- this is not a quick fix book! Rather than focusing on changing behavior through a series of manipulations or oppressive authority, Good and Angry goes to the heart of the matter -- the need for parents to examine their own hearts and responses, to control their anger and re-direct it to positive interactions with their children. I especially appreciate the emphasis on teaching children to deal with their own anger, a skill which is mostly learned by example. Because it deals with matters of the heart, Good and Angry helps bring about lasting change in families -- a worthy goal and one from which all family members benefit.

Practical
I have read all three of the authors books and I've found this one to be the most helpful.

It didn't take me long in my parenting career to figure out that most issues with our children are ones that are solvable, once we look internally. What this book in particular helped me to realize was that my reaction to my son's disobedience is so very important. To respond in anger sends the wrong messages. The authors give you practical ways to react to disobedience and they guide you in managing your responses.

There are so many helpful ideas in this book. In a nutshell, I would highly recommend it to any parent.
