An obscure book leads to murder
While being interviewed by a NYT reporter Dr. Karen Pelletier states her opinion that the best book of the 20th century was an obscure book from the fifties, called Oblivion Falls. It was based on a true scandal in a college town. The author disappeared a few years later never to be heard from again. After the interview, sales of the book skyrocketed, and the reporter searched for Mildred Deakens, the author. He found her and ended up dead in her driveway. Millie was arrested, but claims to be innocent. Letters from her to Karen have been stolen, and there are rumors about her and a visiting writer.

This is a very good addition to the series. All of the characters from the previous novels have been developed more fully and so has Karen's relationship with Lt. Piotrowski. I really loved this one and finished it in one sitting.

A Poet for All Times
One of America's most prolific poets, Paul Laurence Dunbar wrote at a time when there were few African-Americans being published and praised by many of the literary elite. This volume contains the poets's most respected works. Dunbar wrote in a variety of styles, but is most remembered for the use of "slave dialect" to express the humor, the pathos, and hardships of the condition of the black man in America. Highlights include "When Malindy Sings," an entertaining opus to a "sistah" with "nat'chel" singing "o'gans," "An Ante-Bellum sermon," which features a subtle commentary on slavery, and "The Colored Soldiers," a haunting piece that delves into the inequalities of servitude in the United States armed forces. The words, though a century old are just as timeless today as they were when they were originally written. For me To cite just three in this work of so many excellent verses is a gross understatement. All the "treasures" here should be read and re-read to fully appreciate the gifted mind of this literary master.

The nation and the world should be grateful to these important social commentaries of verse by one Paul Laurence Dunbar. I know that I, as an American, am enternally appreciative.

A Clear Insight
The nature of business and organizations has changed radically in the last 150 years. Dr. Yates describes those changes and shows how improved information and communications technology made those changes possible.

Her point is that the telegraph, the memeograph machine, vertical filing and so on made possible the development of copmplex modern organizations with multiple divisions in different locations.

She uses the Illinois Central Rail Road, the Scovill Manufacturing Company, and DuPont to show how organizations evolved.

Obviously, the rise of the modern corporation -- and other complex organizations -- has made the modern world possible. This interesting book helps explain that revolutionary development.

This book is clear and interesting. Her research is carefully document.

Everyone eventually might well need this book.
Joanne Parrent, in her COURAGE TO CARE, gives hope to anyone with an elderly parent or other loved one. ... Parrent's carefully thought through, detailed discussion of what to expect and how to handle each eventuality made my own life much easier and less guilt-ridden. I could be in the moment with my mother and stop worrying about whether she would remember what we'd done the minute before. Parrent also made me feel better about employing skilled home workers who lovingly, not only cared for my mother, but also sat with her, talking and playing music. I learned from Parrent's book that we had to live each minute at a time. ...THE COURAGE TO CARE was invaluable to me, as I know it will be for everyone who reads it. In fact, I wish I'd read this important book sooner so that I could have prepared myself for the inevitable. The crash course of reading the book, nonetheless, worked for me, as I know it will for others with loved ones who are losing their mental faculties. Parrent deserves a huge commendation for getting all this material into one book and making it readable, indeed engrossing.

A wonderful romance!
Fire Dancer was Chickasaw to the depths of her soul. Her wihte mother had bequeathed her stunning green eyes, yet her blook was pure and unfettered Indian pride. Now her chieftain uncle had wounded her spirit by giving her to the red-coated officer as an interpreter-and a bedmate. Insulted to the core, she vowed never touch this arrogant Englishman.

Major Evan Trevor was as dazzled by the regal Chickasaw princess as he had been by the vast forests, wide rivers, and rich bounty of this wild virgin land. He was told Fire Dancer was his for the taking, but from first sight he wanted more than her delectable body. Not by force, but by tender kisses, he planned to make her ache for him, to call his name in ecstasy and to surrender her rebellious heart...until his destiny became her own.
