A Must
I used this book in my current teacher education program and it is absolutely a must!! It is easy to use and the students loved the activities. If you are going to teach P.E., you must have this book (the whole series is great!!)

Teaching Tool
This book is great for all P.E. teachers who are interested in giving their students age-appropriate activities. I have used it in my student teaching at the University of Arizona and will use it in my teaching. It is full of intro-activities, fitness, game and closing activities. Just what every elementary school P.E. teachers need to do a complete lesson.

Religions of the World
It is the most concise material I have found on the subject. While in school I used it for a reference book when writing papers, now I read through it when I am unsure about a religious practice. It clarifies any questions you might have on any given (major) religion.

Gorgeous illustrations, easy to understand text
This book is really beautiful! It helps the student and the teacher to explore the great wisdom traditions of the world. The illustrations are plentiful and lovely, the text easy to comprehend. A great book!

Principles not Recipies
Get this book! Dr. Baum presents a way of parenting which will not only help parents avoid the terrible 2's, but lays the groundwork for avoiding the terrible 7's, 9's and 14's. She empowers parents by presenting a philosophy of parenting which, once understood, will enable a parent to invent his or her own behavior in any parenting situation. This is a book of principles, not recipies. Above all, following her philosophy of child-centered respect models the type of behavior we desperately need in the next generation. In raising a child, you build the future. This book is an excellent guide for parents who want to raise a child who has a strong psychological center and sense of self.

Finally a book that makes sense!
When I found out that I was pregnant, I immediately purchased all the "right" parenting books - and found most of them lacking. Each had valid points, but few actually gave me solid advice on the whole "good parenting" thing. Then I read this book, and I actually finished it in one sitting! I have been using the advice regularly, and have found it to be exceptional. I've already seen results - my daughter, who just turned one, is already saying "Thank you" when given treats (without prompting!), and I've received numerous compliments on how well behaved she is. If you want great advice on raising great kids, this is the book for you!

A pictoral-historical masterpiece!
I came across this book last month, and I was completely stunned by the fantastic pictures and narrative that bridged the gap of one hundred years!

Very clear and factual information
I utilized this book for a research paper and was very pleased with all of the information within. The book was obviously well-researched and the authors were well versed on their subject. The format in which the book was organized was very easy to follow and very helpful when I needed additional information.

One word: EXCELLENT!
This book is well-written and beautifully illustrated and long overdue. Some of the pen and ink illustrations didn't reproduce well but that is a minor point. I can't remember how many times I have purchased books for my kids and wished there were more Native American books written and illustated by REAL Native Americans! And the fact that it is about the legends of my own people makes it even more important to me. This book will take its rightful place next to GIVING THANKS by Jake Swamp. Niawenkowa to the authors and artists!

Beautifully illustrated and meticulously recounted
Oneida, Joanne Shenandoah and Mohawk, Doug George have put together a superb selection of Iroquois stories with considerable attention given to detail, accuracy and their significance to the people from whom they came. It includes the Iroquois concept of creation and several other ancient stories.

Magnificent works of art by John and David Fadden serve to illustrate this "picture" book which is appropriate for children ages 4 to 104.

It is a perfect book for gifts as well as for classroom use in elementary schools or college courses in Native American Studies.

Love this series!
This is the second book in the Angie Amalfi series and I loved it as much as I did the first. Granted, Angie is a spoiled rich girl, but she is so loving and caring and loves Paavo so much that I really enjoy her. The combination of mystery and romance is wonderful. The mystery kept me guessing right up to the end. When I finish one of these books, I have a fulfilled feeling because all of the loose ends are tied up neatly, but there is a desire to continue reading. So, I purchased all of the rest of the books in the series so I can catch up with everything happening in Angie's life.

A fantastic, satisfying series.
Joanne Pence has created some wonderful characters in her Angie and Paavo series. I hope she keeps them coming because each one gets better than the previous one. The first one was a #10 and each book after that has not disappointed. I would highly recommend this series.

A truly gentle, heartwarming picture book!
From an Illinois Parent -- The author's poetic style and the illustrator's pink-toned pictures portray a wonderful affection between parent and child. I highly recommend this lovely adoption story.

The True Meaning of Adoption
This whimsical book leads the reader from a discussion of how an adopted child has two birthdays to the more serious topic of what it means to be adopted. Beth waits and waits for her "real" birthday, the day she was adopted, but her mother explains that everyone has only one birthday, and that birthdays aren't really that important. What matters is how people feel about one another. Beth's mother says, "I don't love you because you're adopted. I love you because you're Beth." Beth responds by creating a heart-shaped card for her mother. Her picture is on one half, her mother's on the other. Beth says, "Together we make a heart. Together we make a family. Every day. That's what being adopted means." The light verse and simple vocabulary will engage young pre-readers and older readers will enjoy and identify with the story. The open exchanges between Beth and her mother can be a starting point to encourage dialogue between children, parents and members of the extended family.

The best resource I've yet to find for this period!
This book is one of the most comprehensive, well-done and complete guide to both Victorian and Edwardian fashion I've ever seen. Although the illustrations are black and white, they are surprisingly well done (most costume design books don't detail hair styles, patterns, etc, but this one does.) I recommend this book as a very accurate guide to the period for researchers, costumers or fashion enthusiasts. The book, along with fantastic illustrations, includes a summary of the times and fashions and a very helpful glossary. Also it is much more than any other book I've seen--- it included SEVERAL fashions for each year and several different occasional wear layouts. If you are curious about this period, you must buy this book. I only wish they had a similar book for every period!

Don't let the cover fool you!
I was leery of ordering this book, because most of the books that claim to illustrate both the Victorian and Edwardian eras merely skim over the Edwardian. But I was pleasantly surprised.

The book covers the years 1860-1914 and gives equal (or slightly superior) coverage to the Edwardian and pre-WWI years. The illustrations are large and detailed, allowing for very good views of the trimmings of the garments, and the smaller rear views of many garments are invaluable to the recreationist. Also included are period captions describing the intended uses of the garments (tea or opera, for young girls or women "of a certain age"); these are both interesting and very helpful for the self-educated costumer. The selection of dresses, coiffures, hats, parasols, coats, lingerie, nightdresses, and children's clothing is well chosen and the garments are lovely.

My only complaint is that a few years are either entirely skipped, or skimmed over: 1866, 1872, 1875, 1878, 1883, 1893, 1899, and 1911. However, the existing material is excellent and very useful--I wholeheartedly recommend it.
