Excellent Start Up for your Private Duty Business
I found this book very helpful in starting up the private sector business of the company i work for. I would like to know if Ms.plummer has an updated version of this book? I need to know due to the constant changing in home care. The book I have is 1985 and I sure hope she or some other author have something similar to this book,. It is very informative, it even gives you all the expenses you will incurr and the job descriptions of all the people you will need for the start up program. The salaries are a bit outdated esp.in Ca. but I still use this as a bible to start a business of this calaber.

I want to live by the sea, too.
My kids and I get a stack of books from the library every week. We grabbed this one at the last minute because we liked the title. This book is one of my favorites now. It is beautifully illustrated and the rhyming is fun and "bouncy". It reminded me of why I, too want to live in a house by the sea. It's so wonderful, I want to make a wallpaper border with it. It's a book I will buy and pass on to grandkids!!!

Brilliant social history
This book is, ostensibly, about the history of transsexuality in the US. But it is, as its title implies, more generally about how the concept of "sex" itself has changed in the US in the past hundred years. Meyerowitz has done an amazing job of putting together activist, scientific, and popular cultural sources to produce a scholarly -- but very readable -- history. Meyerowitz's main point is that it is through a "taxonomic revolution" -- initiated by the possibilities of transsexuality -- that scientists, sexual minorities, and broader US society have come to distinguish between sex, gender, and sexuality, and the kinds of identities that are attached to these concepts. She argues most persuasively that the distinction between these arenas of lived experience were worked out through the debates over transsexuality in the US, drawing on earlier European sexological discourses.

Meyerowitz uses Christine Jorgensen as the central figure in this book, and has gone part of the way to producing something of a biography of CJ. This works really well. Another notable feature of this book is that Meyerowitz is careful to follow the different experiences of transexual men and women, which adds further depth to this book.

This book is very readable -- I intend to teach it in an undergraduate course this year -- while at the same time theoretically sound and clearly very well-researched. It answered many questions that I had, and brought together much of what I have wanted to understand about this field.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in gender and sexuality, both specialists and the general reader.

If I should die, If I should live
When I was very young, this book helped my brother and I to understand a lot of things that my parents couldn't explain. My brother was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 18 months old. I was 4 years old when the doctors told my parents that my baby brother was teminal, and might see 5 years old. Luckily he's still with us, he's 27 years old now. Through the marvels of medicine and prayer I still have my baby brother. I'd like to thank Joanne and Benjamin Marxhausen from so many years ago. and if you know of anyone dealing with anything similar, this book really helps children understand.

Not Your Ordinary Quality Improvement Book
After more than fifteen years in health care as a medical social worker, I've seen my share of QI ideas. Believe me, this is the best book I've ever seen on this subject. It is everything you as a health care professional would need to get serious about using quality improvement to make real changes in practice--and in principle. If you work in end-of-life care and are tired of seeing patients with unrelieved pain, want to move beyond the living will to comprehensive advance care planning, are willing to recognize the role of spirituality in bereavement--just for example--the information you need is here. This is not your ordinary quality improvement book. It talks about real action and practical ways to change entrenched systems. The quotes at the beginning of the chapters are from Will Rogers and Yoda and Anonymous: "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the Ark. Professionals built the Titanic." The authors, Dr. Joanne Lynn, Janice Lynch Schuster, and Andrea Kabcenell, have a penchant for clear writing and well-organized outlines. The book is sponsored by the Center to Improve Care of the Dying and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. If you are ready to start improving end-of-life care tomorrow, read the book today.

Dr. Downing does a wonderful job in this book of offering
teachers practical information. She has a section devoted to
each stage of education from preschool to high school & within
each section offers specific tips on how to modify both the
environment & the curriculum. She also addresses common
concerns such as dealing with disruptive behavior & a lack of
adequate planning time or support staff resources.

A treasure
This guide's photographs are fantastic, and really convey the spirit and natural beauty of New England. I found the writing style very engaging, and the listings at the back (inns, restaurants, etc) to be very well organized and accurate. This was my first time using an Insight Pocket Guide (I have only ever used their larger sized guides before), and I am now enchanted with this format - it is really easy to travel with. The pullout map at the back was the icing on the cake for our road trip. I highly recommend this guide to anyone planning a trip to New England.
