Good news! This book will soon be reprinted!
I bought this book 5 years ago and it rekindled a great interest in astrology. The wonderful thing about this book is that it is so readable and easy for the novice to understand. In addition, because of the book I contacted Debbi Kempton-Smith (who lives in New York City) and I am proud to say that she has been my personal astrologer for the past 5 years. She is top notch in both the intelligence and integrity departments. I spoke to her in January 1999 and this book (Secrets from a Stargazer's Notebook) is in the process of being reprinted. Hang in their gang and grab a dozen copies for all your friends and family. I was smart enough to do that a few years ago when I realized how important this book was to me. I bought 10 copies and now I only have 3 left! Debbi gave me an autographed copy a few years ago and she has promised me one from the new edition. Lucky me!

Hooray! It's back in print!
This is the new and updated "Secrets" that Debbi's fans have been waiting so patiently for. I bought the first "Secrets" in 1993 and learned from Debbi how to read an astrology chart, particularly my own. I'd been interested in astrology for years but had never before found a book that explained the basics so clearly. This book is actually not just useful in helping novices, it's terrific for more experienced stargazers. You won't find any book as informative and entertaining. I used the easy to follow charts to find out the planets in signs for all my friends, potential lovers, bosses and enemies. Debbi really teaches you how to find out what makes people tick. The information you will learn and read in this book will impress any skeptic. It's such a fun read that you don't even realize how much you are learning. The best thing about reading this book was that I was able to contact Debbi and she has been my personal astrologer since 1994. She has helped me tremendously and it has been a pleasure to have her as my astrologer and friend.

The gift I keep on giving!
I purchased my first copy of Secrets in an LAX airport bookstore in 1988. It was such a mind opening experience that I dove headfirst into becoming an astrology enthusiast. Since that initial dog-eared paperback, I have given dozens of copies to friends and associates who expressed an interest in the subject. Without exception, they all raved on and on about Debbi Kempton-Smith's charming wit and self deprecating humor. The writing style removed all preconceptions they had concerning astrology and its role in a modern life. It is a truly disarming read. I've just ordered another 5 copies and can't wait to begin sharing the experience all over again! A fabulous book!

Sencillamente fabuloso
Dancing Barefoot: five short but true stories about life in the so-called space age
Published in Paperback by Monolith Press (2003)
Authors: Wil Wheaton and Ben Claassen III
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Wil Wheaton: One of us! One of us!
The hardest thing to believe about "Dancing Barefoot" is that these are stories jettisoned from his upcoming book "Just a Geek". They scan like they were intended to be read together. The first four stories, vignettes really, tell of the universal feelings of love, loss, embarassement and acceptance. While the last story, "The Saga of SpongeBob VegasPants", brings it all together at a Star Trek convention.

"SpongeBob VegasPants" is the highlight of the book. It lasts more than half of the book's 117 pages and reveals more about the author than some autobiographies have done in five times as much space. Wil really has it all out here and the result is an honest, touching portrayal of a man coming to terms with a cultural phenomenon he loved and then betrayed him.

Wil grew up loving Star Trek. Just imagine being cast on a television show that puts you on the bridge of the USS Enterprise. For a geek, not many things can match that. In fact, your character, is the only one that legendary Star Trek creator ever named for himself (Wesley was Gene Roddenberry's middle name).

And yet, the writers couldn't really do much with your character. He soon became a 1 dimensional intergalactic know-it-all who would serve as a Deus ex Machina everytime the writers wrote themselves into a corner. The fans that didn't hate you at the start quickly join the chorus of "I Hate Wesley" and boo you offstage at Star Trek conventions.

This is where Wil came from. But it's not what Wil Wheaton is. He has become a very powerful writer, one who transcended his past and is now earning the respect of the people who booed him long ago while also picking up new fans.

That's the true power of Wil Wheaton. People who couldn't care less about Star Trek or Wesley Crusher are reading his website and passing it on. They like him. He's a dad and a husband and a son and able to tell us of the events of his life that make us nod and smile with recognition.

"Dancing Barefoot" is light without being insignificant. It's an easy, engaging read that shows the human side of an actor who has been unfairly maligned. The delightful illustrations by Ben Claassen III do the same thing as the text: capturing the essence of Wil Wheaton on the page and making you want more.

Bring on "Just a Geek"!

Life on Lifes Terms
Hello All,

I bought this book on the advice of a 27yr veteran in Alanon. I've never regretted purchasing this book. The readings are insightful, and go hand in hand with another great read "The Courage To Change". I've yet to discover why Alanon has yet not recommended this book?! Trust me, this is one of the best daily readers you can get!

I like this book so much, that I've given SEVERAL away as gifts to those that I love dearly. To this date, I've NEVER received a single complaint, only compliments on the depth and wisdom, of the words written by Melody Beatie. So, if you want a great daily reader, then I HIGHLY recommend this book. On yet another note, I just purchased "More language Of Letting Go" so, as soon as I've read a bit of it, I'll post my comments here.

Ciao All!!

I carry this book with me like a bible!
Having read the book 5 years ago, I still pick up the book everyday, especially when I feel those codependent controlling emotions resurfacing. The book literally saved me from myself the self-defeating behavoirs of trying to control life. It has changed my life. My book is falling apart from use, it is my daily spiritual guidance and encouragement. I couldn't live without it. Thank you from a very codependent who was brought across that bridge into the light. This book has saved me, in financial crisis', in my love relationship, in every aspect of my life. It has taught me that I cannot control life. My screen saver here at work says, "You cannot control people or events... trust, believe and let it go, just let it go"! This book is powerful, a life saver.

The Language of Letting Go
This book of meditations gives you inspirational thoughts to begin your day with. A must read for anyone dealing with codependancy issues. In her words, Melody Beattie gives me a spoonful of wisdom every morning; a tonic to support me all day! For those busy people who don't have time: Slow down, relax, and take 5 minutes a day to do yourself some good!

Inner peace, wisdom and harmony
Jon Kabat-Zinn¢s ability to describe and explain living in being-mode and mindfulness is brilliant. Although these things are thought to be some "eastern things", he successfully presents them as the life things, which directly have effects on our stability, development, relationships and quality of life. The chapters of the book are interesting, meaningful and inspiring, and not forcing a reader to see the world through any religion or spiritualism; they are not written in such a style.
If you want to learn what the mindfulness is, or just to be more inspired on seeking the right path and attitudes in your life, then read this book.

If you are interested in meditation, or, if you want to find
a way to slow the pace of your busy world, Jon Kabat-Zinn can express the "out of body" concepts of meditation in a way that no one else can.

You get to choose: "Wherever you go...." is a book that can be explored over and over, that can start you on a path to a new habit to find within yourself what you need to survive today's busy world; that can help you find a new habit to renew the life you lead. Or, utilize its message just as a brief "chapter read" to jump start the positive if you are not looking for a lifelong habit.

It is very difficult to express, in words, the inner activities that result in becoming comfortable in your own skin. Kabat-Zinn writes thoughtfully and honestly about how he has accomplished this, and what things might work for you. There are many treasures in this book. For me, his ability to describe the rewards one gets from practiced patience, and to impress upon the reader the simplicity of the "body scan" and how it can lead to the habit of lying down meditation are two examples of things that readers can take away at any given time from his book.

Many self-help readers today are looking for the "quick fix" or some small coping practice they can employ to keep their days positive. In some ways, in addition to helping you understand why meditation works and why it can change your life, Kabat-Zinn writes a poetic and illuminating version of the "one minute help" chapters that the "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" series provided to these readers in the busy working world.

When you couple his vision and ideas with the lovely verse that liberally sprinkles his book (Kabir, Thoreau and Whitman are favorites) you have a quiet and inspirational message that can do more to help you understand and eliminate your stress than can all the meditation, control and organizational techniques advocated in today's America could ever do.

Read "Wherever you go, there you are" and learn how mindfulness can change the course of your daily life for the better. It works.

Concentrated Wisdom - A Definite Keeper
This has long been a best seller and justifiably so. Kabat-Zinn works clinically with people who are stressed and his earlier book, Full Catastrophe Living, was written for people who are almost pathologically stressed, to bring them the beneficial effects of meditation. The present book is written for average people on the street, who may not need so urgently the therapeutic effects of meditation, but in the belief that we can all of us use a healthy dose of it. It is written with no religious strings attached, and even avoiding the word "spiritual," and yet it has the ability to open up the spiritual realm for us, no matter what we wish to call it. It is an introduction for the beginner and a source of good advice for the practitioner of meditation. It's written in bite-sized chapters, in clear, easy and very readable prose. It is a delight to read. The book's three parts explore the why and how of meditation and its many applications in daily life. Many chapters conclude with suggestions for reflection or meditation. It is concentrated wisdom that deserves much rereading and a permanent place on your library shelf.

Great Book for Beginners In Tarot!
If you're a beginner in tarot (like myself), than this IS the book for you. The author guides you through the book in lessons, and the best part is, you DON'T have to read each lesson. You can still have fun with your tarot deck without getting weighted down in, "tarot theory," If you forget something, you can easily look it up in this book. Joan Bunning gives GOOD and understandable meanings for each card, as well as "teaches" you how to do readings, and how to ask questions. She even has exercises, where you can practice your skills. She knows how to make tarot fun! Since I am still practicing doing readings, I use this book for referece A LOT! I am SO glad that I bought it. The only negative is that she does not review the meanings of cards being reversed. Also, she focuses on one deck, Rider-Waite, but you can use any deck with this book. It's a GREAT book and a MUST HAVE if you're a novice, and want to learn more about tarot.

Terrific book for experts or beginners
Joan Bunning has written a clear, concise, understandable guide to the Tarot that has something for everyone, from beginners to experts. The 19 lessons teach everything you need to know about the Tarot, while the exercises give lots of hands-on practice. The keyword charts for the cards are a wonderful quick reference, while the in-depth descriptions of each card include opposing and reinforcing cards and a lengthy description. If you are interested in the Tarot, BUY THIS BOOK. It's the only one you'll ever need.

Thorough and perceptive guide for beg-intermediate readers
This is an excellent, all-purpose introduction to the tarot. The material is presented in lesson form, complete with exercises (optional) and suggested "answers." These give an overview of the tarot and many suggestions for approaching the cards for divination and personal growth. The book, however, would be most suitable for people working with traditional or Waite-derived decks, and less so for esoteric decks like the Crowley Thoth Tarot.

There is an excellent section on all card meanings, with extremeley thoughtful and descriptive key words and summaries. I personally appreciate the upbeat approach that Joan takes, not shying away from negative card meanings, but illuminating the underlying forces at work. Her viewpoint is slanted toward utilizing the challenging aspects of our personalities and fate for growth and clarification, via the tarot.

If I were to nitpick, it would be to say that I wish she had covered card reversals more extensively. Many books avoid the subject entirely though, as it is a difficult and often confusing aspect of divination that may be considered beyond the range of the beginner. I also got the feeling that she has a lot more to say, but perhaps that is what second books are for! All in all, I highly recommend this as one of the very best beginning books on tarot, and equally valuable for the more seasoned tarotist as a refresher course.

Don't Miss out on the action and romance!
I REALLY liked this book. In this story, Maid Marian is not some helpless damsel in distress, waiting for her knight in shining armor to rescue her. Instead she is a down-to-earth young girl who takes her life into her own hands, becomes a self-sufficient young woman, and learns to love.

Blossoming Love between Marian and Robin
Twists and turns, hate into romance, hardness into humor, a novella with all the key characterisitics to draw a hungry reader in. Especially with Maid Marian as a lead character, you wish there'd be a sequel. But no, this book stands on it's own pretty well, pretty darn well.

Factors of a great read: action, romance, intensity
I happen to love fantasy books , though I only truely enjoy the ones that allow the characters to seep into you and you become them. For me this was one of those books that take you away and into the story Marian was a wonderful character that you never hear anything personal about but this told it from her . With this book, I have learned to see Marian more as Robin Hood's mate, not annoying female pest. Love the romance, intensity, and action.

The best Thomas book going
As a child I owned most of the books seperatley, so I thought I would buy this collected edition of (what used to be called) The Railway Series for my nephew. He absolutley loved it. He still watches the videos etc, but insists that at least two of the stories are read to him every night.

When the books where written, Wilbert didn't give a thought to the fact that one day, Thomas the Tank Engine would have a worldwide audience, let alone an British one. The stories are simple. A short tale with a moral at the end. They give lessons in life. Everyone gets there comeuppence in the end. That's life and my nephew knows that. As for the Fat Controller, he does seem a little offensive for todays lifestyles, but some people can be a little oversensitive as well.

When Wilbert Awdry wrote these stories, the first one being way back in 1945 right up to 1972, time, and attitudes, was a little different. Reading some of the reviews on this book would make some people think that the books where wrote yesterday. The only reason that the books are a little darker than the TV series is because the TV series dosn't stick to the principles that the books adhere to.

Unfortunatly, all the stories in their original format are now out of print due to a complete shambles that surrounds the reprinting of the series, which is a dire shame. So this book is where to find all the first stories that started the wheels on the best loved character ever.

With this book your child will enjoy ALL the original stories, as they where. Just ask my nephew!

The Perfect Bedtime Storybook for Thomas Fans
My 3-year old son loves this book! It has a good selection of stories about Thomas and his many friends: James, Gordon, Henry, Toby, et al. The stories are short enough to hold a toddler's attention. 1 or 2 stories a night is/are perfect. The binding is sturdy, so this book will outlast many a flimsy paperback. It's also quite economical as there are 26 stories in all. When I first saw the book, I was afraid that the small size of the illustrations would be a drawback, but my son enjoys them just the same.

A great investment!
We bought this book a year ago, and my son still enjoys listening to the stories. He has heard each at least three times, some of them many more times besides. As his mother, who has read through the book with him twice myself, *I* love the stories, too! They teach good lessons and are very entertaining at the same time.

It actually is not true that all Thomas stories are in this book. All the original stories by the original author are, but more stories have been made up by less skilled story writers, in my opinion. The BEST Thomas stories are the ones in this book.

The shorter story books have been Americanized, and I think that makes them lose some of their appeal. For instance, the Fat Controller in this book has been renamed in the shorter books and videos to his proper name, "Sir Topham Hatt." Political correctness meets Thomas the Tank Engine. In my opinion, they were better unchanged, and that is what you have in this book.

If you have a toddler, I highly recommend this book. One word of warning, though. Then come the Thomas train sets, and the videos . . . you will never be through with Thomas once you start!

This Book will change your Life!
I have read many self development books yet it was this book that made me finally understand how simple it really is. There are distinct Laws of the Universe that when acknowledged and applied correctly will bring you everything that is yours by Divine Right.

As a society in general, we have been led to believe that life is much more difficult than it really is. Success in all areas of your Life is not hard to attain at all-- that is of course, if you know the game and how to play it!

Read this book and change the way you look at yourself and more importantly how you look at every situation. Remember-it's not the situation- it's how you look at the situation that shapes your destiny.

I can not stress enough the positive impact that you will see happen in your life and the people's lives around you when you read this book and apply the principles and affirmations. You will begin to see all your dreams start to come true right before your eyes and you'll find yourself saying, "I can't believe it was that simple..."

I thank K. Orlich for recommending this book to me...and I thank Amazon.com for always having it in stock. Read this simple book--and more importantly--apply what you have learned and you will truly change your life.

Around the World
After reading this book I purchased several copies to loan out to friends. I asked that instead of returning them that they pass them on. The books have gone around the world as I have gotten emails from a number of people that read and enjoyed them. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was short, to the point, and made a lot of sense. I am a big advocate on the power of words and thoughts and this book gets the message across quite simply. Florence gives an abundance of affirmations that can be used in manifesting change in our lives. Change does not need to be complicated or difficult. Florence gives some simple, practical advice on what to do to create a better life. If I can create change without expending a lot of energy, then that's all the more I energy I have to use for fun. I highly recommend this book.

Book which gives one true self actualization & purpose.
The words on these pages (chosen with such attention to clarity) are pearls of wisdom shared so clearly and purposefully as to wholly expose many of the mysteries of life. Belief is at the heart of this text and it's messenger is the power of the spoken word. I read this book many years ago and it's practices as fantasy-like as they may appear, hold truths and secrets to fulfilling all your hopes and dreams while still making you a better person everyday for those same reasons. I have tested it's praticality in the "real world" and it has passed every time! Enjoy it for what it reveals to you, and don't look too deep, for all answers are revealed in their own time. Just follow the advice and believe.

Comfort for those left behind
If you feel guilty or angry or depressed about the loss of a loved one--whether death occurred suddenly or after a long illness--this little book will enable you to deal with these emotions and the full range of others following a loss. Even though I had accepted that eventually I would lose my parents, the death of my mother was overwhelming. I read many chapters & verses in my bible, watched uplighting programs in the middle of the night, but my true comfort came through "Hello from Heaven!" I would love to see my mother, and the Guggenheims indicate that all of us may have the opportunity to experience the closeness of a loved one who has departed for a better, more glorious, and incredibly unimaginable place for us. The encounters that they researched & described are so uplifting and comforting, and their own personal comments about the experiences of others are like frosting on the cake! How wonderful to read something by writers who come across as very humble in their writing, but who offer so much hope and comfort for those of us left behind. Thank you, Bill & Judy!

A remarkable book!
This book proves out unequivocally that our loved ones and the love they have for us continues on beyond this life, beyond this place. Ms. Guggenheim reports that the spirit of the departed person and the love that it has for those who still remain, grows and flourishes upon the spiritual realms. This is made abundantly clear as one reads of the documented stories within this wonderful book of those who have been contacted in some way by their deceased loved ones.

What a blessing and a comfort this book is! To know that our loved ones not only live on but that they desire to communicate this to us is a true joy and a balm to the heart.

Congratulations to the Guggenheims for having the heart and soul to undertake a project of this magnitude during a time when after death communications (ADC's) were barely understood or talked about openly at all. Kudos to Judy and Bill!

"Joyful, Uplifting,and Comforting!"
I have read this book numerous times...usually when a loved one has died or when a friend or loved one is dealing with terminal illness. It has brought many, including myself, so much peace of mind. (I have had similar experiences as those described in the book). It has become a mission in life for me to share this book with others and ask them to share as well. It is not a religious or "psychic-type" book, just truly beautiful stories written by real people, not offensive to anyone. It answers a lot of questions as to Heaven and afterlife. I always tell the person about it and ask if they would like a copy. I have given out approximately 25 books so far - in many different circumstances - and am ordering another 10 tonight. No one who reads the book can ever fear death or dying again. Grief and anger for loss of a loved one is lessened. I HIGHLY recommend that you start your own "mission" with this book! Bill & Judy......how about that sequel!?
