The Key to Crowley
After at least a full year of immersing myself into Crowley's magick and occult studies, I continue to find myself coming back to this book. When I first got the book, I tried reading it and to make heads or tails of what I was reading, but to no avail, so I put the book down until a spark of light drew me closer to understanding. I remembered at one point reading in 'The Eye in the Triangle', a biography written by apprentice Israel Regardie, mentioning Crowley's fascination with mystery novels. I am not a big fan of mystery novels, but I decided to take one up (Robert B. Parker's Godwulf Manuscript for the curious), and it struck me at that point that it seemed to make sense that Crowley enjoyed these kinds of books as they are so evident in his own writing. This is the point of view in which I decided to understand Crowley - that is, to understand his work as a mystery waiting to be solved. You are the detective and you must put the pieces together. All the information is in front of you, but you must understand, interpret, infer, and join various bits of information to gain the whole picture. 777 and Other Qabalistic Writings is just that - a string of puzzle pieces that are shaken up in the box, and its up to you to put the work into it to make the connection. Crowley is not one for spoonfeeding information and this book certainly demonstrates this by having to understand numbers, symbolically and mathematically - how they relate to the Hebrew and Greek alephbet, tree of life, Chinese and Indian philosophy, and the universe: micro and macrocosm, and of course algebraic and trigonomic formulations. With this information that is put into a uniform system of systems. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind when studying (vs. reading), is that every sentence counts. Each line, number, column, diagonal, and row all have a correspondence to each other to make a relationship that, as the Gestalts would say, is "greater than the sum of its parts." While this work is not for the beginner, and difficult for any novice, it is certainly a must for anyone who wants to dig a little deeper than love potions and money spells. If you can master the work in this book to the point where it is second nature, then Crowley's other works will illuminate itself freely to the trained mind. Crowley's writing is for those who want to "do the work" and not for the lazy person's guide to enlightenment. 777 stands as Crowley's testimony to his mastery over the subject as well as his versatility with understanding the nature of language and how it can be expressed; i.e. compressed information. I suggest to book cautiously to only those who are willing to take the task and set themselves on a journey into another world.

This is a textbook on Gematria, Kabbala,(Qabalah)!
This is a Textbook on Gematria, (the Spiritual Essence of the Numerical Value of Words, Names, or even General Phrases). This is Not a book for the Dabbler in the Occult Sciences but a Reference Book on Kabbalah,(Qabalah), the Tree of Life and the Magical Alphabet! The many, many Tables of Correspondences listed in this book will give the Seeker of Truth the Truth he or she needs to delve into the Deep, Deep Mysteries of God! Aleisters committment to become the Man of Sin and in essence become the correspondent of the living Christ in the Earth along with his commitment to "persevere to the end" in his Tarot studies certainly pays off in this Extreme Religion known as Qabalah. For just a taste of the many Revelation one may enconter in this book is the Revation of the Number 666. In the Section titled SEPHER SEPHIROTH Aleister lists the Numbers 1-1000 with additions up to 3321 along with Hebrew Words and Spellings. In this Gematria the Numerical Interpretation of 666 in none other than, "Aleister E. Crowley" and, (you guessed it), "The Name of Jesus"! If you don't have this Book in your Magikal Library you owe it to yourself to Buy it!!!

The Encylopedia of all true Magi
This book really deserves far more stars than I can give to it. I use it daily since I first layed hands on it. If you don't have it and call yourself a magickian, then you had better get it before you are called up to answer. I use this book for every magickal ritual that I do. It contains a complete list of all correspondences that one could ever want. Plus Crowley gives a deep explaination for each of the attributations. It also contains a very in depth section on Gematria, which is very usfull. Also in this book is the Sepher Sephiroth, which lists out the values of various Hebrew words, which is essential for proper understanding. I have read through this book more times than I can count, yet I always have something to learn from it. This book is not an option. Any practitoner who is performing without this text is severly limiting himself.

Great Past Life Experience and Great Reading
I was totally enthralled with this book. I couldn't put it down. It brought to life the old west and the women who lived in it. Anyone who ever wonders about what the "real" old Tombstone was like needs to read this book. Don't let this one slip by you.

Have we met before?
The most captivatingly written book I have ever read. It has brought Tombstone to life for those of us who want to know the other stories that didn't make the history books.

I highly recommend it to everyone.

Completely believable and fascinating reading!
Tombstone, Earp brothers, soiled dove girls, shootings, cowboys, Indians, mining, gambling, the 1880's in the wild, wild west...what else can be more interesting to read? The Bird Cage Saloon was only opened for 8 years, but what stories those walls can tell. Well written, and spellbinding, this large book goes by very quickly and is easy reading, planning to reread it many times. Have visited the Bird Cage in person many times in the past and recently, I have updates since the book was written if interested after reading this book. Enjoy your step back in time to the 1880's!

How to live a detached life of love and service
"The Man Who Planted Trees" is a wonderful short story about the fictional life of a man who singlehandedly restores a valley to life by becoming the Johnny Appleseed of Trees. More importantly, its about a man who, having suffered the loss of his wwife and only child, chooses to live a simple life in anonymous service with little but his own resources and his love for trees. The short-term effect is almost unnoticeable; long-term its staggering.

The wood engravings that accompany the text stand out and mirror the book's theme of asutere simplicity quite beautifully. Its a wonderful book for children, nature enthusiasts, gardeners and those looking for hope that follwoing one's heart and living out of love, rather than fear, can ultimately make a difference.

Will inspire you and your children to care for nature.
The Man Who Planted Trees is the tale of Elzeard Bouffier, a man who, after his son and wife die, spends his life reforesting miles of barren land in southern France. Bouffier's planting of thousands and thousands of trees results in many wondrous things occurring, including water again flowing in brooks that had been dry for many years. The brooks are fed by rains and snows that are conserved by the forest that Bouffier planted. The harsh, barren land is now pleasant and full of life.

Written by Jean Giono, this popular story of inspiration and hope was originally published in 1954 in Vogue as "The Man Who Planted Hope and Grew Happiness." The story's opening paragraph is as follows:

"For a human character to reveal truly exceptional qualities, one must have the good fortune to be able to observe its performance over many years. If this performance is devoid of all egoism, if its guiding motive is unparalleled generosity, if it is absolutely certain that there is no thought of recompense and that, in addition, it has left its visible mark upon the earth, then there can be no mistake."

The Man Who Planted Trees has left a "visible mark upon the earth" having been translated into several languages. In the "Afterword" of the Chelsea Green Publishing Company's edition, Norma L. Goodrich wrote that Giono donated his story. According to Goodrich, "Giono believed he left his mark on earth when he wrote Elzeard Bouffier's story because he gave it away for the good of others, heedless of payment: 'It was one of my stories of which I am the proudest. It does not bring me in one single penny and that is why it has accomplished what it was written for.'"

This special edition is very informative. Not only does it contain Giono's inspirational story, which is complemented beautifully by Michael McCurdy's wood engraving illustrations and Goodrich's informative "Afterword" about Giono, but it also contains considerable information about how wood and paper can be conserved in the section "The WoodWise Consumer." Goodrich writes about Giono's effort to have people respect trees.

"Giono later wrote an American admirer of the tale that his purpose in creating Bouffier 'was to make people love the tree, or more precisely, to make them love planting trees.' Within a few years the story of Elzeard Bouffier swept around the world and was translated into at least a dozen languages. It has long since inspired reforestation efforts, worldwide."

The Man Who Planted Trees is not only a wonderful story, it will inspire you and your children to care for the natural world.

A very inspiring book
Jean Giono's inspiring story of the "man who planted trees" reached me some days ago as a birthday gift from my two sons. They thought it an appropriate gift for me probably because I am now engaged in an effort to grow trees in some land which I bought as a barren waste land. I found the book extremely inspiring. The interesting thing is that there indeed are unsung heroes and heroines in many parts of the world who do do such inspiring work without thought of reward. Some months back I read in Indian newspapers about a poor couple in the Karnatak state of India who decided to plant trees to assuage their sorrow in being childless. As they had no land of their own they decided to plant trees on the roadside. And ended up with magnificent avenue trees on miles and miles of the road near their village. There still seems to be hope for mankind!

Loved it so much I bought 3 more as gifts!
It's beautifully illustrated! My 9-year old daughter couldn't wait to choose a gardening project and begin. Whether you have lots of space or just a couple of old boots, you can have a wonderfully creative and lovely garden. The author begins by telling you about the plants that are suitable for children and then takes them on a gardening extravaganza - through worms, scarecrown, water, soil, the Zumi Indians - you name it, it's in this book. Whether an avid gardener or not, your family will enjoy this one for many years to come!

A wonderful, user-friendly handbook for gardening with kids!
Sharon Lovejoy's new book, Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots is another treasure for adults and children alike. The water color illustrations are just the enticement one needs to try new garden projects! Great resource for parents, teachers and anyone who loves to be outdoors with children!

Rediscover the joy of playing in the dirt
Sharon Lovejoy probably wasn't the very first gardener to think of creating fairy gardens, pizza gardens, sunflower houses and flower mazes; but I'll give her credit for introducing them to the gardening public like no one else had before or since.

ROOTS, SHOOTS, BUCKETS AND BOOTS is a delightful introduction to gardening for children and the people who cherish them. The book is grounded on the idea that gardening should be shared with kids at a young age, the better to nurture a lifetime of healthy pleasure and respect for nature: therefore, learning how to grow things should be a fun experience, without a lot of restrictions, rules and long waiting to see results. Every project is scaled for children -- with a little help from parents - to be quick, do-able and fun.

Parents will appreciate that the theme gardens in RSB&B will not send them running to the local garden center to charge up a small fortune in tools and materials. In keeping with organic horticultural practices, the author explains simple, homemade composting techniques and recipes to build soil and feed plants. Whenever possible, readers are encouraged to use found objects around the house and garage for cultivating and planting: she gives "permission" to dig and work the soil with spoons and forks, pot up potatoes in colanders and herb gardens in old gardening boots, and find new purpose for rusty old wagons as movable feasts of annual flowers.

Kids can't help but learn quite a bit from their experiences in sowing and growing. The author opens up a world of wonderment that tantalizes kids to learn from the changes and growth taking place. She subtly encourages kids to watch for all the insect and animal life their gardens will attract. RSB&B is densely packed with fun factoids like, "Run your fingers over the pumpkin vines. Farmers use them to protect the plots of other crops" and "If you like the taste of licorice, you won't be able to pass your fennel without nibbling. Fennel is called the weight-watcher's herb because it satisfies an appetite."

Designed with humor and illustrated with charm, RSB&B will prompt people of all ages to rediscover why they love playing outside in the sun, fresh air and dirt.

Totally absorbing human drama
I was typing up descriptions of books I bought in a box lot to sell and decided this one was in just too poor condition to sell, but it was medical, which always interests me, so I decided I should read it first before throwing it out (it's literally falling apart), AND BOY, AM I GLAD I DID! I found it totally absorbing, but surprisingly not so much from the medical aspect as from the simple human drama aspect. The cover emphasizes its focus on the corrupt medical system it describes, but to me it was more about a man losing himself in the pursuit of money & prestige, and having a crisis brought on by the death of a patient, that turns him back around, back to the idealistic doctor we liked in the beginning of the book.

There were numerous British words I didn't know what they referred to, but I found I was able to just skip over them & keep reading without losing the essence of the plot or the sense of timing/tension/drama that kept bringing me back to read more.

Warm, uplifting and heartwrenching
A beautifully written novel. Warm yet heartwrenching, uplifting and tearjerking it propels the reader to a deeply satisfying conclusion: The doctor is ready to battle on for the good of us all. Dr. Manson is a man of deep convictions. His honesty and guts in the end allow him to defeat the temptations of greed and an undemanding, lush lifestyle. If you don't understand the mindset and heart of a "liberal" thinker, read and understand Dr. Andrew Manson. I loved this book. I'd love to see both the Masterpiece theater presentation and the movie by the same title.

Superb!
An excellent read. I couldn't put down this book about the life of a young Scottish doctor right out of medical school. The book is punctuated by lots of heartwarming moments, but the author also gives us some thoughts on the ethics behind the medical profession. Highly recommended.

An informative book on covens.
I found this to be a very informative guide to networking
and to establishing a coven. The book also warned about the
safety rules, which I found to be great. The book brought
me hope in the way that there are other people out there,
practicing wicca.

Common sense discussion of joining a Coven
I recommend "Inside A Witches Coven" by Ms. Edain McCoy. This book is a very common sense discussion of how to find and/or form a meeting group and/or coven. (Ms. McCoy defines a meeting group as a group of Witches/Pagans that meet to exchange ideas and socialize without the vows and commitments that a coven requires.) Ms. McCoy does not go deeply into Craftlore, but does tell one what s/he can expect from initiations and healing spells.

A caveat: one must know the jargon. Several items (delay until 1995 [one know no delete -- i.e., forever], nine (nein) years -> (i.e., forever), a year and a day (366 -> open hex sex -> sexual abstinence for the duration) handfasting period, casting the circle counterclockwise (reverse the clock -> undo a spell or vow).

Ms. McCoy is to be commended because she *does* recount people problems that she has had during her career, and cautions the importance of finding a coven compatible with one's philosophy. Too many dictatorial leaders spoil what should be a happy and rewarding Craft experience.

Despite the problems decoding the jargon, I like this book.

Very informative and enlightening
This is a great book! It can definitely help beginners and experienced practitioners who are looking to join or create a coven.

A Life-Turning Page Turner
The Psychic Pathway is a 12-week plan on how to develop your intuition and psychic awareness to live your life more fully. Reading and working through one chapter a week, as recommended, gives you time to try out the exercises and assimilate the contents of each step, and become more aware of your developing psychic ability as well as the positive effects it will start to have on your life. What I liked about this book especially is that it seems to have gathered together in one place several tips that I have read in various books to "clear the path", to create space mentally, spiritually and physically (i.e. in terms of your immediate environment) for new experiences to enrich your life, be it new books, new clothes, a new class, new people, travel or whatever. There are also numerous anecdotes taken from Ms. Choquette's own life and those of her clients to help the reader understand the impact of each step. Even if you don't do the exercises, just reading the book will change you and your approach to life.

Easy to grasp, Comes from the right place
This book takes a very straightforward, easy to grasp, common sense approach to understanding psychic phenomenon. Sonia's stories are amusing, and the tools she teaches are something anybody can use. If you don't have the means to meet with Sonia in person, the book is a good second choice.

I had a reading by Sonia six years ago, and much of what she told me has come to pass. She is the real deal. In person, and in her book, she uses intuition to help her client's personal evolution. She's a kind, responsible person who uses her gift for the good.

Practical and intuitive
I met Sonia Choquette three years ago when I did "The psychic pathway" workshop in London. The workshop was amazing, so is her book.

During a 12-week practical program, you will learn how to develop your psychic gifts and talents by doing exercises, asking questions and meditating. Sonia's language is warm, engaging and gentle, therefore, you won't feel uncomfortable.

I would recommend this book to those who want to develop their sixth sense, expand their awareness and discover their personal pathway.

Funnier than Dilbert
I love books that are different. When I saw this I bought it right away. I was not disappointed.

Day Job is just about the funniest thing I've ever read. The author is really demented.

My only complaint is it's physically tough to read at times, but it only adds to the charm of the book.

A relief to read a smart, funny view of the corporate world
I laughed out loud-which I never do-while reading this book. Whatever your age or work experience, you will be able to appreciate and relate to aspects of Mark Thornton's experience in his job. I was relieved to laugh at the absurdities of work life that can frustrate me. I also appreciated the solid, sobering excerpts from other smart authors.

An entertaining and intelligent book.
Jon Baird has written a book that should be read by everyone in the workplace. It allows for self-examination by every professional, and will help co-workers of all levels relate to each other's motivations and attitudes more completely. The book is extremely well written, and entertains in a way that other career-boooks fail to. It is far superior to either "What Color is your parachute" in terms of implicit career advice, and far more captivating to read than "The Goal," while conveying the same value of information and ideas contained in these other two commercially successful books.

Call Me Arrogant
Perhaps it is hubris when I say that I didn't like this manuscript as much as I thought I would. It wasn't through any fault of the information within, but rather the boring and obtuse writing style. Now, perhaps I am arrogant to challenge S.L. Mathers, and perhaps King Solomon himself, when I say that it was long, slow and, at times, unnecessarily vague. When contemplating purchasing this book, however, you must remember that it wasn't intended as a quiet read. This is a Grimoire, and as such does not belabor the point much with storytelling. If you are looking for expoundation on occult philosophy, then I would not recommend this book. If, however, you are already versed in the Esoteric Occult system and ready to closely examine ritual work on your own, I suggest that you peruse this manual and incorporate its ideas.

The First and Best
This is perhaps the greatest and most important grimoire ever written, the book which all other grimoires were based on. Mathers' edition is spectacular due to his understanding of Hebrew and the vast amount of research put into this edition. This book should be in the library of every student of magic and the occult, whether your interest is pureley academic or if it extends to practice of magic.

It is an amasing work of research and of translation.
This is what I call TRUE MAGIK. This kind of books ilustrate what Magick was, and what Magick is. I admire the author for his work. Of course Samuel L. McGreagor Mathers was an expert on the Magical subjects. Obviously that this book is different from those "new age" garbage that are well fashioned now. This book contain the most excelent description of how to summon and control entities from other realms of existence. Anyhow the student should be wise enough to read this book by the light of the time it was first written. I take the liberty to advise the book Elemetar Treatise on Practical Magick, Papus. It teaches the importance of how to use this knoledge in ower days. EXECELENT WORK.

perfect for those who appreciate a reflective experience
I enjoyed reading Donna Gorrell's personal experiences on her road to Enlightment. She was able to clearly convey her understanding of Enlightment through her analysis of her life experiences and her reflective research into this subject. I appreciated her openess and honesty. Reading her book encouraged me to keep an open mind to all possibilities of attaining oneness with the universe. I reccommend her book for those who also have an open mind and an interest in one person's perspective of Enlightment.

A Heartfelt Masterpiece!
It is rare that I finish a book in less than two weeks. This one I devoured in two days. I simply could not and would not put it down.

Here is my review: This is a beautifully written book. Truly inspired and profoundly inspirational. The author shares her fascinating journey of self-discovery in an eloquent style that doesn't hold back any punches.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in their own personal or spiritual growth, no matter if you started on your path twenty years ago or yesterday, or to anyone who desires a greater understanding of God, the universe and mankind.

This is an author who clearly loves life.

I cannot thank you enough Donna Gorrell for your brilliance, your insight, your honesty, your humility and courage to write this book.

A fascinating read!
I was fascinated by this story of a personal search for enlightenment! The author's writing style is eloquent, and admiration and great thanks go to her for sharing her life experiences. Her book will help others in their search for meaning in life and spirituality. It took a lot of courage for her to document her life on paper for others to read, but I believe she has offered help and inspiration. She truly would have gone mad was it not for her strength, intelligence, and her love of life. Her writing style in sharing her acquired knowledge on the one hand, and then writing about life experiences that corresponded to that knowledge on the other, gripped me. Thanks to the author for her courage in sharing her experience with us and for her inspiration.
