Excellence In Theory
This book is excellent. Franz bardon writes with love and insight. It's as if he created the universe and knows all it's secrets. I will forever treasure this Hallmark work.

BE FOREWARNED THOUGH - YOU MAY NEVER FINISH THE FIRST STEP. And the book has ten steps. Even the publishers concede that THERE MIGHT ONLY BE ABOUT 5-10 PEOPLE ALIVE WHO HAVE ACTUALLY FINISHED THE BOOK.

So take the reviews with a mouthful of salt. YOU WON'T BE WALKING ON WATER, ASTRAL PROJECTING OR COMMANDING THE WEATHER ANYTIME SOON. Did Bardon really intend for his students to aspire to these ideals though?

BUT, for what it's worth. Even if you never pass step one you would have attempted one of the best systems out there. And if you decide to follow another path take step one with you always. It purges the soul.

Thank Franz Bardon for this work. It's the ideal for any true Hermetic. But ideals are always different from reality.

I wish I had started my Path with this book.
Had I done so, I would not have had to wade through all the new-age waffle that pretends to be magickal training today. And I'd have more money. But with that said, this book isn't for the casual dabbler or the wannabe wizard. This is a serious, PhD- level book for the Seeker on the Path who, like me, has passed through the many stages and levels of insight on their way to Mastery. It is beautiful in its dense Germanic imperative simplicity, and just getting through a chapter and getting it into your psychic marrow may take weeks or months. But the results will be well worth it, as the 'Ah-Ha!' light within your soul gradually brightens, and your world will never be the same again.

This isn't for the timid, or the doubtful, or the casual dabbler. It won't blow up in your face like Crowley's stuff does, but it definitely will blow your mind if you are not ready to accept the responsibility that the exercises and techniques in this book will impart to you. I'd say that if you're under the age of 35, maybe you should wait to get this, because you should have some living under your belt to truly comprehend its impact on your life.

This book should be the keystone of any Gnostic, Hermetic, Kabalastic, or Rosicrucian practitioner of the Western Mysteries library. Mr. Bardon has given the student magus a great gift. Use it with wisdom and care.

Not for everybody
With all the praises this book has been getting, let me make this clear: THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY. And don't think that this is the only magic-book you'll ever need. Wrong. This book containts a complete initiation system which is a true description of the first Tarot Card. But this course can take a lifetime to amster if not many lifetimes for many people. You won't become a magus overnight.

I disagree with the person who said that you shouldn't read ahead until you complete a step; nor that by doing so, you will finish the book in 2 years. It is safe to read ahead; it will also take many, many years to master the whole course. This is THE book for serious magic. But be warned: it's only for the most disciplined, most determined students. Also, don't neglect to study the writings of other adepts.

Truth is stranger (and much better than) fiction
A friend gave me a copy of Fall to Grace about a year ago, and I remember thinking "catchy title." But in the days that followed I was spellbound by this fascinating true story by Eric Karlson, so much so that when I was finished I went to my local bookstore and bought four more copies to give to friends. I'm sure that many eyes have read those copies. For those of you who seek a deeper understanding of the Vietnam War from a completely unique point of view, this book is a must. For those of you who seek a deeper understanding of the path(s) to enlightenment, this book is a must. Kudos to the author.

A Soldier's Story
I have read a lot of books about the political pinnings of the Vietnam War, and seen lots of movies about it, but I have never read an author's account of personal polarization before encountering Mr. Karlson's own account. The title and the subtitle originally caught my attention: "Fall To Grace: A True Story of Sex, Drugs, Vietnam and Enlightenment". Wow. Talk about touching on something for everyone...

Since it was an independent book, I was originally sceptical of how good a read it might present. But after reading the first chapter, I was completely hooked and spent every possible moment reading it. I called in sick to work the day I finished the book--just so I could stay home and keep reading!

As I went through each chapter, I found myself regularly referring to the glossary of terms in the back. Even though I'd heard terminology like "Fragging" and "The World" in films like Apocalypse Now, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket, my understanding of the greater context, the geographical locales and the enlisted man's sentiment could not be fully realized without having immersed myself in this book. Having been born in 1971, my concept of Vietnam has been shaped largely by Hollywood films and skewed history books. I found this autobiographical text to make all my previous experiences and understanding much more visceral.

This is the story of a true soldier: a man who faces horrific uncertainty with total bravery, honor and a willingness to do battle with the ultimate adversary--himself.

One of those rare reads; a titanic pleasure, with large lessons, contemplations, compassions.

Fall to Grace
A powerful, first hand perspective of America's involvement in Vietnam. Having read several other historical renditions of the Vietnam war, I was both surprised and enlightened by a truly unique personal journey through the various mindsets that operated in Vietnam during the war. Mr. Karlson actually survived three wars, the first as a drug addict, the second as a frequently AWOL cook for the American war effort and lastly as a raw first time writer, who strikes gold with his account. Upon finishing the book in short order I quickly passed it along to a friend and accomplished historical drama screenwriter. During the reading process it ran on my small screen. Now it should be on the Big Screen. I recommend it to all. You'll feel like you were with the author every step of the way!

The Thirteen Clocks
Published in Hardcover by Donald I Fine (1990)
Authors: Marc Simont and James Thurber
Amazon base price: $8.95
Average review score:

A marvelous book, extreamly clever, a classic.
When I picked up this book at my local library, I wasn't expecting to be impressed. I had fallen in love with one of Thurber's other books that I had read (The Owl in the Attic and Other Perplexities) and decided to see if this was any good. That night I read it through, 3 times and another 2 the following morning. It just seemed all so wonderful to me I couldent get enough of it. A classic story with a handsom prince, an evil duke, and a beautiful princess, and the seemingly impossable tasks the prince had to do to win the princess's hand. I hope that all around the world people enjoy this book, for years to come.

why my daughter always asks me to read this
...the writing is so lyrical, the characters so funny, and characteristic of thurber, frought with human flaws while still being heroes, and each adventure solved, in the end, by wit and ingenuity. the prose is beautifully tight. it is written, like E.B. White, for the inner ear -- sonorous, and full of Thurber mischief. "I am the Golux, the one and only Golux -- and not a mere device." My eight-year old loves the rhythm. My 11 year old loves the humor, and I love thurber's wink to me about literary devices...for us, this book is always at hand for the sheer joy of reading it aloud.

We all have flaws... except this book.
I first heard this enchantingly wonderful book on cassette tape when i was at art lessons. I would wait impatiently till the next week so I could hear more~ more about the Golux (who resembles only half the things he says he doesn't) and about Princess Saralinda and the Prince whose name begins with X... and doesn't. This book is full of whimsical wonderful wordplay and contains almost all of my favorite quotations of all time. It isn't very long, but every sentence is filled with some little quips or verbal oddities that, quite literally, made me laugh aloud. This book is without question one of my favorites of all time, a truly wonderful tale that can be read over and over again without ever growing old. Really classique. I mean, the book that's given me my tagline HAS to be great: "We all have flaws and mine is being evil."

A Lovely Walk in Serenity
What a lovely book! The title feels welcoming, and comforting, and explains from George Anderson's whole lives experience....profound wonderful things! "Walking in the Garden of Souls" is a very worthy book, worthy of our time and attention.I wanted to read it all at once, and was interested in every word! As things suddenly became apparent, this gift was given to George just for this moment in time, so he could counsel and educate us on different realms of being, all natural and real, to help soothe our souls and heal our hearts! This is a wonderful and thoughtful walk to happiness...a beautiful place that exists for all of us.

George Anderson and Andrew Barone, who is executive director of the George Anderson Grief Support program, and a co-founder of the Foundation for Hope are two names I had never heard of until now but two names I will remember forever for their kindness in this moment! ...

An Inspiration to all who believe
I lost my dearest mom on August 30 so I am among those, George ranks as facing one of life's greatest challenges, grief. This is perhaps what initiated my readings in the area of spirit, to console myself. Nature as science defines it is a vast machine of indifference, having brought forth human consciousness for no reason, and ending same in biological death for no reason. At best a depression philosophy of life.
This book will help those in need or assurance that our loved ones survive death, actually do so. It also is a book written in what I sense is the sincerest of styles. Mr. Anderson does not claim God like status, only that he has a special gift to communicate with conscious beings beyond our material dimension.
I recommend this book to all those who wish to be comforted, but I do not think this book would convince the Amazing Randi type disbelievers.
Georege Anderson is in the star class of psychic mediums and indeed, if George were a fraud would not the skeptics have caught him in his more than 25 years of readings.
Read the book, I think you'll enjoy it. If you've lost a loved one, its a elevator for your own spirit to read.

A Must Read
This book is a must read, not only for those presently experiencing the unbearable pain of loss, but for those searching for an understanding of why life on earth is so often hard, painful and unfair. Without the lessons taught in this book, and others by George Anderson, I would be unable to reason my way through much of the anger and bitterness I absorb by being not only a participant but witness in this world. This book is about the power of hope and faith and the magic of it is not so much the mere words of the message but the way it somehow resonates as true, and somewhere within me, I knew it was. I would recommend people read this book simply to see if the "click" of peace and comfort happens within them as well. Because if it does, you'll be writing online reviews and telling all of your friends also. It's just too good to keep to yourself.

Notes of a "guerrilla mind theatre"
The Torah of Judaism. The New Testament of Christianity. The Qu'ran of Islam. The Dhammapada of Buddhism. To these, and other immortal sacred texts of the world's great religions, we can add the Principia Discordia, the foundational text of Discordianism.

Since I first read the Principia (also known as the Magnum Opiate of Malaclypse the Younger), it has become one of my favorite books. I recommend the edition that contains an introduction by "Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst" (also known as Kerry Thornley), who is celebrated in a cover blurb as "the co-founder of Discordianism."

Thornley opens his delightful intro, "If organized religion is the opium of the masses, then disorganized religion is the marijuana of the lunatic fringe." Discordianism, which is inspired by the Greek goddess of chaos and confusion, is such a disorganized religion. In his intro Thornley recalls the founding/revelation of Discordianism in 1958 or 1959 in a bowling alley in California.

The Principia itself could be read as a collage-like satire of conventional religions and their sacred texts. The book is a merry blend of jokes, puns, satiric narratives, parodic songs and rituals, word games, illustrations, and secret ciphers. Among the gems in the book are the Law of Fives, an explanation of the Discordian calendar, and information about the Bavarian Illuminati ("The World's Oldest And Most Successful Conspiracy").

One section of the book notes that the Discordian Society "has been called a guerrilla mind theatre." The Principia is a manifesto of this theatre. If you want to read something really different, check out the Principia Discordia.

Eris Stole My Sanity and Played Basketball With It
A refreshing look of religion, beliefs and ethics formed from a giant collage of chaos. Malaclypse The Younger avoids running around his ideas and giving hints to the reader. Instead he forces a reader into a head dive sucking him into his world. A true work of poetic terrorism.

To some this might seem as an explanation for just another religion, to others a blasphemy and a selected few as a whole new way of approaching the world. This book is a must have for any chaos magician, a big giant sigil designed to awaken your mind.

CAUTION: After purchasing this book expect Eris to play head games with you and tasting chaos early in the morning.

NOTE: Principia Discordia and Principia Discordia or How I Found Goddess And What I did To Her When I Found Her are the same book except for a special afterword and a collage found at the end in the later book. Of course Eris did not inform me of this and I bought both. Twice the fun.

Assume Nothing

But Seriously Folks...
...don't be serious. If you are the sort of person whose life can be changed by a book, *this book will change your life.* As Gregory Hill, co-author (Malaclypse the Younger) observed decades after writing it, "At first I thought I was (messing) around with Eris. Now I see that Eris is (messing) around with me."

Whether you believe in Eris, the Goddess of Confusion, or not, this book explains a *lot* about what's really going on, in language that even people with no previous exposure to philosophy or religion past a little Sunday school twenty years ago can understand. Once you've got into it, you'll never take anything on faith again that isn't *worth* taking on faith. You'll see. This edition also contains the introduction by Lord Omar K. Ravenhurst, which makes it worth having all by itself.

The Boys Start The War The Girls Get Even
The name of this book is The Boys Start the War/ The Girls Get Even by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. This book is a really good book. The Hatford boys are playing tricks on their new neighbors the Malloy girls. Now the Malloys girls are really mad and have to get back at them. The Malloy girls are Eddie (whose real name is Edith Ann but hates it) 11 years old, Beth who is ten and Caroline who is eight, but is in third grade. The Hatford boy's names and ages are Josh and Jake who are 11 (they are twins.), Wally is nine and Peter who is seven. The Hatford boys and the Malloy girls are playing tons of tricks on each other. To find out what happens read The Boys Start the War/ The Girls Get Even.

The book The Boys Start the War:The Girls Get Even was good!
In this fast-moving, funny book which is two in one, the Hatford boys try to get the Malloy girls to move back where they came from. Their friends, the Bensons, moved away and the Malloys moved in to their house. In The Boys Start the War, the boys and girls start pulling pranks on each other, each one more hilarious than the next! In The Girls Get Even, the two families try to outdo each other in Halloween costumes, until a surprising turn of events happen! This book is great!

THIS BOOK WAS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!
The Boys Start the War; The Girls Get Even

I especially like these books since it was the type of book that has a boys vs. girls sort of thing, also with revenge in it and I happen to really like books like that. These books are about the Hatford boys vs. the Malloy girls. It all started when the Hatford boys, Josh, Jake, Wally, and Peter, best friends, moved out and the Malloy sister moved into their house in stead of boys like the Hatford boys thought it would be. The Malloy sisters are Caroline, Beth and Edith Ann (or as she preferred it in the book, Eddie). The pranks and tricks on each other started when the Hatford boys decided that by making the girls so miserable they'd want to go back to where they came from, Ohio. However the boys didn't think that the girls would get revenge on the Hatford boys prank on them. So, begins the war. Then in the second book, since these two books are put into one, it goes on about more tricks, pranks, and ways of getting revenge on each other. Some of the tricks are when the Malloy girls take their revenge against the Hatford boys, when Caroline Malloy got to be a queen in a play the fourth grade were having, and Wally Hatford was her footman. Then a plot was formed, for Halloween night, and it was in store for the Malloy girls from the Hatford boys. I thought that all these pranks that were done, were really funny, and some you can even consider doing yourself, if you want to get revenge or even somebody! I found this book absolutely hilarious, and full of life. I would recommend this books towards everyone, but especially those who like books that are girls vs. boys, or ones with revenge, or books that are funny. To rate this book, I give it a perfect five stars.

In search of the head on one's shoulders
As a classic account of Ouspensky's encounter with Gurdjieff, thence with a disguised version of the Sufi world, this book is remarkable and worth reading as reminder of the many spiritual disguises of one and the same potential self-consciousness of men of all eras, but as an indication of a spiritual path actually existing it deserves a severe caution, if not a skull and cross bones, as on a jar of poison. Beware of it, and the people who claim to exemplify it after so many years. Disappointing, but necessarily so. Try reading a similar work such as Idries Shah's The Sufis, and note the arbritrary nature of all the content (by and large) describing about the same type of predestigation of method, always the same wiseacred method in the end described plainly in Buddhist sutras on vipassana. The question of the esoteric belongs to authoritarian worlds in a state of hiding, one that is unnecessary now. Bright-eyed candidates of liberal bent for this path created from thin air from a mess of theosophical pottage might consider the reactionary nature of this sage Gurdjieff, the book's account of the trail of the Whites heading south at the onset of revolution, and the plain fact that Gurdjieff, for all his fancy occultism, was a de Maistrean sort of guy, who disapproved of the abolition of slavery, and liked a submissive relationship in disciples. The grounds of spiritual authority subtlely suggested to induce the impulse to surrender the will as one's freedom are spurious, the more so if Gurdjieff in Ouspensky's own view was not even an honest man. This work belongs to an ancient world, and is misleading because it seems to draped in the esoteric and a touch of the modern, when in fact the cosmology is a pastiche of ancient Indian Samkhya transformed in magician smoke. The verdict on a method of spirituality should be the number of its successes, and it was the Indian teacher Rajneesh who noted that this path has never produced a result, realized men. The reason is that the terms described, both as philosophy and method, are too arbritrarily exotic, and finally under suspicion of being made up and leave enthusiasts permanently frozen at the starting point. To concoct a mystery of the enneagram and call it esoteric wisdom takes a peculiar type of brazen hucksterism, since the whole notion is surely a complete fiction, not to say a put on. One of the warnings of Buddhism is, dont' get fancy, and beware of speculation. These vices of metaphysical salesmanship are grimly pervasive in this work and leave desperate seekers tying their head in knots trying to compute self-remberbering or produce an alchemy of higher hydrogens in an addlepated brain. Be ye Lamps unto yourelves, the Buddha warned. Before becoming the piece in another all too tricky play designed to stun the wary, and reveal nothing at cost, it is well to remember the warning. And it is worth remembering Ouspensky's starting point in Tertium Organon with its solid Kantian beginning and metaphysical austerity, all thrown away in this beguiling path that left its own expositor with nothing. Anyway, Gurdjieff is curiously unique, do not therefore grant this to those who claim his teaching. As for the occult demos claimed, either they are fake, and we have fraud, or they are genuine, and we have a fallen yogi indulging in left-hand path skullduggery.

Gurdjieff and Ouspensky Go Mad In Fointainebleau
Not one for the schizophrenics, this is the literary equivalent of a Lysergic Acid/MDMA cocktail - Heady stuff indeed. It's worth reading for the story alone. The author and his beady eyed guru/hypnotist friend were two of the most darkly fascinating characters the twentieth century had to offer. Anyone with an interest in the roots of new age religion should read this book first. Also if you're thinking of becoming a spiritual leader - this is your handbook. Those after a a bit of gentle mysticism are probably best of doing a bit of yoga or tai-chi, those after a lot could do worse than a bit of this - but don't follow leaders and watch your parking meters!

the acknowledged classic
At the very end of his life, Ouspensky seemed to repudiate "the System", as he understood it, although glassy-eyed disciples in that time and this try to rationalize that fact away. Perhaps he realized that any systematic approach to developing our consciousness is impossible, since if we are on a road with a known destination that destination can only be our own projection of what we imagine it to be. No matter. The ability of this man Ouspensky to think systematically was indeed his great strength, and it lent all his writing a clarity and throughness simply unmatched in all of twentieth century "occultism". Nowhere did he need it more than in this reporting of the early teachings of Gurdjieff, when that particular unique idiot was at the zenith of his own development. This book is more important than any of the junk they peddle in the various humanities departments of any of our indoctrinal institutions; it is even a contender for book of the century, at least among those who are familiar with the hidden literature of our species, for it exists at the boundary line between the place where words are at their limit and the place Ouspensky may have finally reached, where words can never go. And rest assured that it nevertheless communicates almost through osmosis some of these things much better than this abstruse little review can.

Small Miracles : Extraordinary Coincidences from Everyday Life

This book has opened my eyes to miracles all around me.
The book was beautiful. It has changed my life. Just as the authors promised, I began to experience my own small miracles after reading this book. I also read the stories to my students. They love them!

I buy every copy I can find to give as gifts.

Small Miracles
Yes, I believe in miracles. I have always felt that these extraordinary coincidences that occur were more than just coincidences. How encouraging and enlightening to read of the many "everyday" miracles which have occurred in other peoples' lives. Yes, God definitely is with us and speaks with us...the experiences related in this book show this to be true. They are wonderfully written and obviously carefully selected by the editors, because every single story is a blessing in itself. I can't wait to read "Small Miracles II" and intend to order it today.

There are no coincidences or random events
The authors are very observant Jewish women who believe that the extraordinary events recounted in this book are not random but rather divine acts of intervention. There was a particularly moving tale of a young man who had a terrible falling out with his father. Two amazing coincidences .. or more accurately, small miracles brought him close to his father after his father died. I won't go into the details because I don't want to spoil it for you if you read this book but, suffice it to say, if this story is accurate, it is indeed miraculous. It just could not be a coincidence. This book is charming and uplifting. I have suffered a recent disappointment in my personal life and prayerfully, I am seeking to discover the reason. I am convinced, that in the spirit of this book, I will discover a miracle in that the real reason for this disappointment will lead me to enormous personal fulfillment. I recommend this book to all who believe in miracles or who wish they could so believe.

The Standard by which the Others are Measured
There are a considerable number of translations of the Yi Jing on the market. For my money, this is still the benchmark. It is true that it is old, and it was a translation of a German version, but such things are not all that unusual in the world of translating; to date, the best all-around Arabic-English Dictionary - the Wehr-Cowan - is a German translation.

People use this version for divination, but I feel that Wilhelm's translation is primarily a text for studying and meditation, and I find the depth of his version still surpasses any other that I have seen. If you consider the Yi Jing to be a serious book, you should obtain this translation, if only to supplement your understanding of the matter.

The Best of the Best
The I Ching is arguably the most important of the ancient Chinese classics--certainly it has become that for us Americans. The Wilhelm/Baynes translation is almost universally accepted to be the most important of the many translations into English. It requires patience and many uses before it begins to move slowly from humorous diversion to friend to spiritual counselor to guru. As noted psychiatrist Carl Jung (an I Ching user) said, it's best not to try to understand how it works--an action that goes nowhere and only causes lost sleep. 'Better just to use it. It has a special benefit for perfectionists--a gospel without the taint of organized religion, the I Ching and everything about it is always pure. There are no scandals, no crusades, no inquisitions. Try to misuse it and you'll get goblydygook instead of a meaningful answer, so it remains pure under any circumstances. This fact can be of great comfort to the spiritual seeker put off by the the problems of organized religion. This has been the most important book in my life for 37 years.

More than a divination tool; A Key to understanding the Self
Those approaching the "I Ching" for the first time are generally looking for that tool of divination that will fortell the future. Sorry to say, the "I Ching" is not for them. It is for the student of the self seeking to find a key to self-understanding, and a knowledge that things "change." The "I Ching" is, after all, the "Book of Changes." This particular volume is the definitive translation and commentary on the hexagrams, and the serious student will learn more about him/herself than about an uncertain and changing future. Because, you see, the future is not fixed. The individual controls his/her own destiny. For the newcomer to Eastern philosophy, or the initiate to the mysteries, Baynes masterful and insightful translations and commentaries (along with some delightful comments by Carl Jung), make this edition of the "I Ching" an invaluable addition to the shelf of any person seeking spiritual enlightenment, as well as a greater understanding of the "self" within us all.

*A MUST HAVE BOOK TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION*
I bought this book a year ago, at a time in my life when I was in desperate need of help, in all areas of my life. My angel literally lead me to this book to connect with me. I had been praying to have conversations with them for a long time it seemed. They sure answered my prayers alright! With Angelspeake I learned exactly how to do just that. And now I talk to my angels all the time. And the wonderful thing is that, angels can tell you things you won't hear from people, give the best advise and guidence of anyone you've ever met, and do all kinds of amazing things for you out of love. I am so thankful to have this book, because it's changed my life, and still is changing my life in the most profound ways. I have never prayed so much in my life, for the simplest to the most complex things! So if you want to have conversations with your angels, I highly recommend this book. It can help you in many more ways than I've described, on your spiritual path to enlightenment.

Enjoy (:

Hoping for help in CA
I have read this book three times and continue to gleen helpful information from it every time. I have learned more about the love and guidance of my own angels as well as my childrens' angels than I ever imagined possible. I am so thankful for my mother who bought me my copy of this book, and I have passed it on to loved ones and friends in an effort to give them the same opportunities to connect with their angels that I have been afforded through this wonderful reading experience. Unfortunately after other family members read this book we also experienced an unfortunate situation that I am hoping to get help from the authors on. Dear Barbara or Trudy, I have a sister who has cut off contact with several members of our family, most importantly our mother. This has caused a great deal of hurt and concern for her safety. My sister has made reference to her readings and messages from her angels as an example of the factors in her decision to isolate herself. We have been a family who has always stuck together. We have all found your book to be a wonderfully enlightening tool in helping to bond us even closer together. We are baffled and at a loss as how to reach out to my sister and bring this family back together. Please help! Cyn2shop@aol.com

Angelspeake
I bought Angelspeake about 4 years ago. At the time I read it but didn't think it would work for me. Little did I know by reading the 4 Fundamentals I started, with the help of my angels, to use them on a daily basis.

I now write to my angels every day and my life has taken a 180 degree turnaround. The angels love to be God's messengers and I find much comfort in talking to them daily. I thank this book and the authors for opening a new spiritual dimension to my life.
