A classic Sci-Fi for kids of the Space Race Era
This was my favorite book (along with the sequel) of my childhood in the sixties. It captures the excitement of space travel and the childhood fantasies that existed at the time. Please bring this back so I can share it with my kids...and read it again myself!

Found...after 20 years!
Slodbodkin's Marty and Eddie books were pretty much the only reason that kept me in the town's small library as a kid...I couldn't get enough of these books that I happened to find one day on the library shelves. During college, I failed to find any copies as I couldn't remember the author or the book title...the only name I remembered was "Marty" - a name too common for children's science fiction. I'd given up the search after failing to find them, even at the library of my childhood. Just recently, I remembered to look online (WWW is a wonderful thing) and finally found Marty and Slodbkin! I treasure these stories still (I'm 29), and remember small details that make me smile still during the day...the no-liquid showers and gadgets...only if I could have a supply of those little mini-pill meals! Dieting would be a breeze!

The Space Ship Under the Apple Tree.
Remembering my first book is like remembering my first love. I don't remember the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th book I read? Space Ship might not have the been the first one I read, but it was the first one I remember with fondness. It made reading come alive. I'm considering illustrating children's books and I'd love to read that "old favorite of mine" to recapture the spell it gave an 8 year old girl. It's time for a reprint for the younger generation to enjoy (with a message too).

Myriad Colour & A Heart Of Wonder.
Esmeralda Little Flame is a natural storyteller, & has created an absolutely charming mythology in 'Temple Of The Twelve.' Unlike so much overtly spiritual fiction, the author does not allow her spiritual messages to intrude upon the narration. This gentle fantasy is written in a spirit contrary to dogma, while it encourages personal expression. There is an openess to the ideas presented, leaving the reader room to reflect & bring their own interpretation to light. Told with warmth & brimming with a love of colour, the author embodies abstract ideals in accessible archetypes, who walk within the story in a delightfully natural way. Written in a straight forward manner, it is an easy enough read for young people, although mature readers would also gain insights from this lovely book - there is a sensitive treatment of some very expansive & serious ideas.

I would particularly recommend this book to visual artists. Although it is intended as a novel & spiritual path-working book, it would make an excellent companion to an artists journal, & enhance the exploration of colour - both in symbolic exploration, & literal application.

A unique book, with the potential to offer any reader a very genuine journey of personal discovery. Esmeralda Little Flame has penned an absolute gem with 'Temple Of The Twelve.'

To quote Oscar Wilde ~ 'Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways.'

A Personal, Magickal Journey
This book is one of my favorites! It is filled with wonderful imagery and feeling that just lifts your spirits. You may want to read slowly in order to savor each and every word, just so the story will last a little longer. The book is like an inward journey that gets to the heart of each person through the use of color, or more specifically, the spirit of each color. You may find yourself experiencing your own revelations and connections as you read this book, just like the main character, sweet Caroline. After reading, The Temple of the Twelve, I felt like I had formed a connection to the rainbow of colors that I "met" along the way. I don't think I can ever look at the colors again without picturing certain scenes of the book in my mind. Esmerelda Little Flame writes with ease, love and magick. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to be inspired and who has an interest in the realm of fantasy/adventure. Just a sparkling book for any age!

Read this book, and hear the Gods speak to your soul...
Esmerelda Little Flame is an author of enthusiasm and deep vision; her enchanting, vivid prose draws one into the world 'Temple...' creates. Esmerelda's characters skilfully guide the reader through an unfolding of their own souls and psyches. The journey is gently mediated by shapeshifting godforms which appear to the protagonists in the guise of colors which exemplify their natures, creating a rich tapestry upon which Caroline -- the book's novice priestess/artist -- and her friends weave the tales of their lives, their hopes, their fears and dreams and failures. 'Temple...' speaks to all aspects of life, bright and dark and in-between. 'Temple...' is the first book of a three-part series and can be purchased with a workbook designed to facilitate psycho-spiritual realization and healing in one's own life. The book is a treasure, and every true spiritual seeker should have a copy!

Black Gold, the Champion in Our Hearts
Filled with excitement, sorrow, and happy moments, this true story is bound to awaken your heart. What book could this be? Black Gold of course! The story's about a small Thoroughbred colt that seemed to have no potential, but turned out to be one of the greatest Thoroughbreds of all time! With the careful hands of Jaydee, Black Gold's determined jockey, Black Gold finishes his last race with "three legs and a heart."
In the beginning, Jaydee and Black Gold have two separate stories in the same book. In fact, Black Gold doesn't even come into the story until a few chapters in. His mother, U-see-it, wins her owner, and soon to be Black Gold's owner, purses that just grow and grow. Black Gold's soon to be jockey shows that he will never give up right in the beginning of the book. The ending has a horrid feel to it, but still Marguerite Henry, the auther will warm your heart in a way that is unforgettable.
Black Gold shares the message that you can never give up, no matter how hard the times are. When Black Gold is in serious pain, he doesn't give up. When Jaydee is put down, he doesn't give up, and when anyone has a challenge, they shouldn't give up either. They should overcome it with bravery and strength.

One of the Best Horse Books Ever!
This book made me cry! At the beginning, it's a little boring, because it doesn't really appear to have anything to do with the main character, Black Gold! It's all about his dam (mother) Useeit. But after finishing the book you see how important it is that it's all in there, because it makes you adore Black Gold even more! This is a true story about a determined racer and a jockey who loves him so much he'll do anything to be with him, and a determined old trainer who made a big mistake.... It's amazing for any horse lover and I 100% gaurantee you'll love this book! If you don't love horses, you might find yourself really getting into them after this. I love horses and really love Thoroughbreds, and ride a half QH half TB! (he looks more QH) All I can say is this is a major must!

I LOVED IT!
This is a story about a small stallion named Black Gold. He may be small, but he isn't bad. This is a heart breaking story. The boldest words I remember are the end. Black Gold's leg snapped because of a hoof crack. The words that I will always remember is: "He finished the race with three legs and a heart" That had made me cry. People of all ages should enjoy this book. Take my advice and BUY THIS BOOK!

All the magic of Winnie the Pooh...
This is a beautiful book. This is definitely not the Disney version of Pooh. This is the 'magical' and mysterious Pooh in all his glory. The illustrations are timeless and add depth to the characters in the Hundred Acre Wood.

I've had friends young and old who have seen this book lying on my coffee table and have picked it up and have become like children again reading these tales.

The REAL Pooh
No childhood - or adulthood, for that matter - would be complete without the adventures of wonderful Winnie and his friends. This 75th anniversary edition is beautifully presented, and readers used to Disney's glossily commercial drawings will be amazed by the original Ernest H. Shepard illustrations featured here. Coloured by Shepard when he was in his 90s (!), Pooh, Piglet, Christopher Robin and co have never seemed more endearing and vivid.

But the greatest credit should surely go to A.A. Milne for creating some of fiction's most delightful characters. Reading this collection today after a break of 30-odd years, Milne's gentle wit and enthusiasm seem as fresh as ever. What a wonderful sense of life (and fun) the man must have possessed.

Pooh is the perfect antidote to today's cynical times!

THE MAGIC OF WINNIE-THE-POOH!
Who could ever forget this heart-warwming, honey-loving bear? All the familiar characters are here, Christopher Robin, Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger. With Christmas just around the corner, what a delightful gift this would make for that special child on your list. The beautiful hand-painted, watercolour illustrations are of very high quality. This is a collector's item of tales and poems that your child can treasure over the years and one day pass on to his or her own children. For Pooh-lovers, this is truly a treasure to behold.

Easy Freedom

Thoughts on Easy Freedom
Thanks to a helpful person, I have finally been able to read this book and it has proved to be as compelling as Easy Connections. Although the story is much darker than the first one (which I feel is rightly so), the characters are further developed and their motivations are shown more vividly. There are some unexpected surprises that kept me on the edge of my seat as well as returning characters from the previous book and a manipulative Chris who proceeds to ruin Dev and Cathy's unsteady relationship with his jealous tricks. Overall, it's an excellent read with a very welcomed conclusion (Cathy finally admits to Dev that she loves him!). Unfortunately, the ending is as elusive as the first and I am left with the impression that Liz Berry may have wanted to continue onward with a trilogy. Personally, I think that if there ever is another, it should be about Chris--it's time he finds a woman to love who will love him back!

Easy Connections & Easy Freedom by Liz Berry
Easy connections is a wonderful story about a Rock & Roll band (Easy Connections) and a budding young artist detailing how their lives unwittingly become entangled. The story is continued in the equally spell binding sequel Easy Freedom which sees the trio flourish against all odds. From the first page I was mesmerised, unable to stop until the last page had been read. I have spent many a happy day reading, re-reading and reading again the compelling story of Cathy, Dev and Chris. Anyone who has read either or both of the books will feel my loss when during re-location I discovered that both books, amongst other less valuable items, had been lost. I have searched for years to find replacements, but to no avail. Come on Liz, do us a favour and point your publishers in the direction of these pages... and let the rest of the world experience the magic that myself and countless others have been privy to. Get these books back in print! There are people out here who want to own these books.

Please reprint this book!
This book proved to be one of the few occasions where a sequel was better than the original. The characters really came to life for me, and the excitement was tangiable! I first read this book whilst I was at school 10 years ago and I enjoyed it so much I re-read it several times - something that I don't normally do. I bought Easy Connections but not this one, and I have searched everywhere for it as I would love to read it again (my library has also lost the book oddly enough). My friends and I wrote to Liz Berry via the publisher years ago and asked whether there would be another sequel and she replied that the publishers had said that they did not want another Cathy & Dev story. Ridiculous!

The Figure in the Shadows

Great book full of magic and mysteries.
When first I started reading this book I thought it was kind of sad how everybody made fun of Lewis. I thought how could somebody be so rude. It got interesting however how Lewis was so sensitive yet he could stand so strong. I thought when I read that the person who was writing "Veno" was the man who once owned the amulet. Later I realized that it was not him because he would have gone after the amulet rather than write "Vino" . Over all I thought that this was a great book that would pull you into the text and make you feel like you were part of the story. A clever mix of horror, humor, magic, and mystery by John Bellairs. I would recommend this story to all kids.

One of the best Horror books ever
I read this book in the 70s or early 80s. I was so frightened by it that I stored it under my sister's bed at night just to keep it out of my room and away from me. It scared me that much - It's very vivid. To this day, the smell of wet ashes reminds me of the book. I mean this all in the best way, of course. I was, perhaps, a little unprepared for the depth of spookiness found in this book, but now I realize that while it frightened the living daylights out of me, it also thrilled me. I credit this book and MacBeth (also read when far too young and impressionable) for my love of "unseen" psychological horror fiction today. Definitely talk with your child after they read this, though. You don't want them spooking at every imagined figure in the shadows.

This story will stay with you.
I read this book 25 years ago, when I was 9. Since then, I have read thousands of books, but I remember this story, almost by heart. I did not know it was a series. I am going to buy everything by Bellairs, to read myself, and for my son, who will soon be old enough for this. I recommend this book heartily. Bellairs is quite the equal of Rowling. If Stephen King wrote youth horror, his charactorization and style would be close to this.

So Much to Live for

One of my favorites
I read this book first, but didn't realize it was part of a series. This one's my favorite, because the characters are all so fun. It really made me cry though, because I loved all the characters, and at the end, when one of the (I don't wanna ruin it) died, I cried - which I never do in books. Basically, Dawn Rochelle goes to a camp for kids with cancer, as a counsuler this year though, and meets a bunch of great kids with cancer. One kid in particular (I believe her name is Marley, but I haven't read the book in a while, so if I'm wrong, I'm sorry) has a major attitude problem, and Dawn cannot stand her. Finally, after trying to get along with her, Dawn finds out why. This books is great, is all I can say! You have to read it if you like Lurlene McDaniel!

A Great Read
I thoroughly enjoyed I want to live. I could really relate to Dawn, having a sister who has acute lymphocytic leukemia. I have seen and made friends with many people like Dawn and I have found their thoughts and feelings to be similar to those in the book. McDaniel's plot is exceptional and I found the book to be very heart-touching. Keep 'em coming, Lurlene McDaniel!

A review by a teen who loved this book
I have read all 5 of the Dawn Rochelle book and I fully enjoyed them all. I would recomend these books to any teen who loves a good cry, and/or a good storie. I would also recomd any other book by Lurlene Mcdaniel. God bless.

The Love Story
The first time I ever picked up this book I was totally captivated by the story and enthralled by the paintings. When it came to the words "my sister is born" I got so choked up I couldn't read the words. Even when I read it now My children always ask Mommy why are you crying? Someday they'll know This book describes our own family all of our children were born at home. We also have a Sylvie and an Eli. It is a keep sake we will treasure always. We have given it as gifts to our midwives and they treasure it too.

THIS STORY BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES EVERY TIME I READ IT.
THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE GIFT BOOK TO GIVE TO A FAMILY WHEN A SECOND CHILD IS BORN. I AM A BUYER FOR A SPECIALTY TOY STORE WITH A LARGE CHILDRENS BOOK DEPARTMENT. I HAVE INSISTED MY ENTIRE STAFF READ THIS BOOK. EVERY TIME A PERSON COMES TO SHOP FOR A BABY GIFT FOR A FAMILY WHO ALREADY HAS OTHER CHILDREN WE SELL THEM THIS BOOK. EVERY PERSON BUYS IT ONCE THEY READ IT. IT IS SO LOVING AND TOUCHING

LOVE this book!
My 5 year-old daughter has hundreds of books, but only a select few sit on the "special shelf" in her room, and this is one of them. I bought it for her a couple of years ago, and it has been my favorite ever since. Everything about this book is beautiful.... the illustrations, the story, and the message. I simply cannot read through this book without crying...........the second to the last page does me in every time!! This book is a lovely reminder to enjoy and appreciate the simple things that surround all of us. If you are looking for a special book that your children will love and you will treasure, this is the one.........BUY THIS BOOK! If I had to pick only one of my daughter's books to save forever, this would be it.

Why I liked Behind the Stained-Glass Window
Behind the Stained-Glass Window brought back memories of my days in parochial school. As a result, it was very comfortable reading for me.Life brings us in contact with all types of people, and so it was in this book among the nuns portrayed. I enjoyed the different personalities among the priests and sisters, and found the book to be right on target in it's projection. The main character was so typical of a young women taught by nuns; so trusting and unassuming. This was an excellent book, and I would read it again.

Critique of "Behind The Stained Glass Windo"
This book was well written but even more it caught my interest very quickly. I was then unable to put the book down. I found the behind scenes of a catholic boarding school very interesting.

Behind the Stained Glass Window
If you've ever wondered what it was really like to be sent to a Catholic boarding school/convent, read this book. There are so many stories out there of a parent that threatened to send a child to a "convent" to get them out of their hair... MINE DID JUST THAT! Actually, I was one of the author's classmates during her tenure at a Catholic academy between 1964-1965 and she rekindled so many memories, good and bad. A surprising mixture of truth and fiction by a wonderful author who is going to be on my favorite list for sure! Thank you Patzi!

YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL NEEDS TO BE ON OPRAH'S BOOK LIST.
When the book first came out my 20 year old granddaughter let me read hers. I was so impressed that I bought 10 books and gave them to my friends...they like the book so much that each of them bought 10 and gave them to their friends...and the sharing goes on. Now my friends want to read the book together and have a study on it, as these are thoughts to live by...so Burt said that he would come to Nebraska to help us get started....What a Book! Thanks Burt.

Your Owner's Manual is what you've been missing
'Your Owner's Manual' by Burt Hotchkiss is designed to fill a void in your life. Every vehicle, every appliance, every important item in your life likely came with an owner's manual - except YOU. This void is admirably filled by this great little book by Burt Hotchkiss.

I confess I have not only bought and read this book, but I have bought several copies to give away, and each has created delight when the recipient 'got' the concept.

The 'Manual' is patterned closely after a standard car owners manual - the kind you find in the glove compartment. It contains good, practical philosophy of how to guide your life into paths of happiness, prosperity, and meaningful existence. The gems of wisdom you will find are designed to really make you think - and if you do, there will be a sort of "Aha" moment when you really receive each 'gift' this book contains.

It was my privilege to meet Burt on one of his many workshop 'tours' which happened to hit my Canadian home town. Talking with him, I came to understand that his wisdom comes from a life that is fully lived with joy, kindness, and generosity. The 'Owners Manual' is his offering to the world, from the heart. This small review is just my very tiny contribution - because the world would be a better, happier place if everyone read their "Owners' Manual".

Darrell Gudmundson

Great PRACTICAL spiritual guidance!!!!
Having been consciously on my own spiritual path for almost 20 years now, Burt Hotchkiss has been one of the most inspiring teachers I have encountered.

Your Owner's Manual is not only inspiring, but provides practical methods of dealing with life. I have used many of his examples in my own work, and have given many copies of this book to other seekers of Truth.

I could not recommend a book more highly.
