The Clouds of Confusion Have Parted! Algebra Is Clear!
This delightful, easily understood explanation of algebra's basic concepts saved my hide in a standardized math test I had to take last week! I spent two days studying this book and suddenly felt like a mathematician, capable of explaining exponents, coefficients, radicals, factoring, square roots, quadratic trinomials and even the slick operation of the Pythagorian theorem to other novices-- who now thought I was a math expert! Boy, I wish I'd found this lovely little text when I was in school. A perfect supplement for your kids' standard algebra textbook... or, heck, a great textbook all by itself! Buy it, and watch your kids smile when they finally understand algebra!

Wonderful Verse
I was delighted to come across Gatsos book while perusing the bookshelves of the University of Arizona. But why are the best poets like Gatsos rarely found on the bookshelves of stores? Who knows, and I suppose it will always be that way. Notwithstanding, Gatsos proved a real treasure of intoxicating verse. He is right up there with the best of the modern Greek poets: Seferis, Eyltis, Tsatsos, Kindinis, Ritsos. For a truely enjoyable alternative to the Beats and the New York school, try Gatsos and his kin.

Indispensible
This book is not terribly easy to use. But that's because Navajo is not terribly easy to speak -- or (looking at it the other way) to analyze. So I caution readers that they should spend some time learning the organization of the lexicon before they expect to be able to use it fluently.

However, this book is /the/ must-own book for anyone who studies Navajo language or culture. Its thoroughness (somewhere over twenty-five thousand entries, I think) is astounding.

EXPOSES MARTHA JEFFERSON-SALLY HEMINGS HALF-SISTER MYTH
An outstanding and well researched expose of the Martha Jefferson-Sally Hemings half-sister myth. The rumors and political slandering of Thomas Jefferson began with early political enemies of Jefferson, some fired from office or denied office due to malfeasance or unsuitability for government office. The notorius scandalmonger reporter, James T. Callender, continued the "Campaign Lies", (the Tom Woodson charge was exposed by there being NO Jefferson/Woodson DNA match), and these slandering efforts were carried out by Samuel Wetmore in the Madison Hemings interview in Pike Co, Ohio. Many of the statements contained in this interview have been exposed as being very doubtful under close and minute research.

Recent evaluations of these misleading findings of the Jefferson-Hemings DNA Study of 1998 and the resultant sensationalist media coverage, would lead one to believe that Thomas Jefferson is guilty of fathering Hemings children. Nothing could be further from the truth as reported in the Jefferson Scholars Commission Report, a blue ribbon panel of thirteen prominent professors, released April 12, 2001. The Thomas Jefferson Heritage Society has links to the full S.C. report.

The authors have long researched all the material and have personally visited many of the covered sites. There are many excellent references cited and for all who wish to keep current on the Jefferson-Hemings controversy should read this book and also the Thomas Jefferson Heritage Society book, "The Jefferson-Hemings Myth, An American Travesty."

Nice supplement
Altman and Lechner have created a neat supplement for elementary school students. I was particularly pleased with the range of topics covered. They hit all the important highlights covered in elementary Roman history, from architecture and notable emperors to specific aspects of Roman life such as clothing, eating and Roman numerals. We use Veritas Press history and this just tied right in each week. I suspect in fact that my second grader will remember more from this book than from the more in depth historical texts that we read. He frequently picks this up and reviews Roman Roads, the Praetorian Guard and Nero (his favorite topics anyway). Good for memorizing to go with the Veritas Press cards; the poems provide more than two facts each!
