I really enjoyed this book and learned more about art.
This is a well-written and informative book. The instructions are clear and allow a novice to complete many of the creations. A book like this gives readers hours of enjoyment; plus you can learn a skill. I feel that Mrs. Nitschke is a creative genius and thank her for her hard work in compiling this book.

I highly recommend this book to readers who want to be creatively challenged.

A great Christmas gift for your artistic friends.

It's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A "Christmas Ribbonry" is a wonderful book. The ornaments are so different! The one that initially caught my eye was the galette on page 40. I ran out and bought ribbon to make it. It did take some time, but after it was finished I had the most adorable little "cookie". The directions were very clear as were the illustrations. What a beautiful house where all the pictures were taken!

I can't wait to start on another Christmas ornament. What's also nice is that there are ideas in it to create useful decorations throughout the year. For instance, you can make covered boxes in pastels for Sringtime.

Thanks for making my holiday a little more special. I highly recommend this book and give it five stars plus!

Excellent source for enthusiasts
Our oral history of the tales of "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty" have certainly changed! This is an excellent source for anyone hoping to find the roots of the fairy tales which we all know and love today. Perrault's prose is surprisingly terse, which may grate with the modern conception of these tales, but he also holds nothing back. Thankfully, Philip and Simborowski include all of his tales, even the dark and disturbing "Donkeyskin," which has been left out of most translations. I have used this book as pleasure reading, but it really shines when I pull it off the shelf for serious essays and presentations. Philip and Simborowski provide helpful anecdotes on Perrault's life and the stories themselves, rounding out a work as complete as Perrault's original.

Perrault
This is a lovely book with beautiful illustrations of Perrault's classic fairytales. At the end of the book Philip spends at least a page briefly discussing each fairy tale and it's history. If you want more in depth criticism of fairytales, check out his text on Cinderella or works by Zipes or Warner. If you want a beautiful book of fairy tales, this is great.

completely reliable, delicious recipes
I have a whole collection of cookbooks, many of which have only given me one or two good recipes. This book, however is in a class by itself: I can honestly say I've never made anything from this book that wasn't a total success, earning rave reviews from my dinner guests. It has provided me with half a dozen menus that have become standbys in my repertoire for entertaining. I simply can't praise it enough to do it justice.

Consistently delicious
I received this cookbook as a gift when I was unable to attend Nora's restaurant due to illness. I may have missed one excellent meal, but I have been rewarded with countless fabulous meals prepared in my own kitchen using the well-formulated, easy-to-follow recipes in this book.

Nora's recipes, her suggestions for variations, and her insistence upon fine ingredients make this one of the most frequently utilized cookbooks on my shelf.

My only complaint is that the index and cross-references were improperly compiled by the publisher, sometimes causing a minor nusiance.

I hope that they come out with a new (corrected) edition, because I would love to give it as a gift, and hope that others can enjoy the delicious recipes.

Fantastic guide to all kinds of collage, inspirational
This is a fantastic book on creating a wide variety of great collage projects. It covers numerous collage techniques including using paper, mixed-media, fabric, decoupage, photomontage, computer art, found and three-dimensional objects. The beautiful galleries after each collage type are sure to inspire you.

In addition to the collage techniques you also get the basics of papermaking, papier mache, marbling and batik as well as painting and dyeing fabric. There are step-by-step instructions accompanied by demonstrating photos for all the techniques and projects. Don't expect to make exact replicas of the projects since your sources and materials will vary. Rather, the author expects you will follow her assembling directions to create a unique masterpiece of your own.

Some of the sixteen projects include a gorgeous butterfly lampshade, a painted paper fruit bowl collage, a clock decorated with magazine scraps and nature objects, and a sewn fabric book cover. Another great project is an easy to make yet sophisticated looking Japanese box covered with scraps of yuzen or chiyogami papers.

This book filled with fresh and interesting ideas is sure to help you create gorgeous collage artwork.

A delight - I'm so glad I bought this book!
I wanted to explore collage as an aspect of other paper crafts I'm trying to learn. I picked this one first and I really like it. Many other collage books are meant for people narrowly focused on collage who see beauty in their collages ..... that is truly not obvious to other people - so esoteric it appeals to a very narrow audience. The Crafter's Complete Guide to Collage is different. It's visually attractive. The samples of collages have much broader appeal. The excellent how-to photographs are tremendously helpful and NOT intimidating. It opened my mind up to more than paper possibilities - it discusses collages of paper, found objects, mixed media, fabric, multi-dimensional, decoupage, photomontage, even computer collage. Its a treat - I think you'd enjoy this book!

This is a MUST-HAVE for teachers!!
This book offers detailed information about different critters that are "common" to a classroom in an interesting and "easy to read" way. It provides terrific experiements to conduct, and values following the chid's lead and interests- creating experiments from their questions! WONDERFUL!

I highly recommend this book to k-12 science teachers!
This is an excellent book for anyone interested in science experiments and the scientific method. It is appropriate for any child grades k-12, with minor adaptations. The writing is clear, concise and accurate. Most of the experiments involve insects. Materials are inexpensive and easy to obtain. The book contains lists of suppliers and references. Data charts and tables are included and need only be copied by a teacher.

Crochet Style equals fashion style
I love this book! I have crocheted since I was 14, back when nearly all patterns were for granny squares and table cloths. Crochet is often considered the step-child of knitting, and the craft and yarn companies treat it accordingly. Most "fashion" patterns for crochet are too open, not practical to actually wear. Sally Harding is one of the first to design a collection for crochet using stitches and patterns such as plaids, stripes, colorblocking, and cabling in wearable crochet "art". She also designs in Tunusian or "afghan" stitch for fair-isle and intarsia type sweaters. Although published in 1987, the designs are classic enough to be relevant for today.

The book is not for beginners, however. There is an appendix with illustrated stitch diagrams and basic technique for particular patterns. To make the best use of the designs you really need a thorough foundation in the basics, which this book doesn't provide. The instructions are well written in imperial measurements(there is no conversion chart for metric).
While some of the yarns used may be discontinued, a photograph of the yarns (and the gauge for each project)will help you to substitute with available materials.

I highly recommend this book if you can get it; a forerunner in crochet design. In addition, I recommend Crochet With Style by Melissa Leapman, another designer who understands the dedication of crocheters.

Crocheted fashions that are really nice
I own this book already and it is a favorite of mine. It is all fashion-oriented and includes sweaters, jackets, vests and summer tops. If you want to crochet fashion items that don't look like afghans, try to get this one!

Awesome!
This is the first in the series of Division One stories. Dan & Jamie both agents for Division One have been fighting off a strong attraction for each other for many years. Each engrossed in their own reasons why this match would never work. But tragedy forces them into close quarters and to face their worst fears. At the same time they kind of stand in each others shoes for a short while and suddenly what seemed cut and dry is not really. This story leaves you at the edge of your seat and is hard to put down. You laugh, you cry, and your heart skips a beat as you turn each page. I have not been disappointed. I'm off to read the 2nd book in this series "Spies, Lies, and Lovers". If you can get your hands on a copy of this book it's a keeper. Kudos to you Ms. Hayes.

A fast, sexy read.
I loved this book! Like every one else, I've been hungry for the spies we used to read a lot, and this really satisfied my appetite. The sexual tension is terrific. I'm looking forward to the next one.

A staple resource for all young women retreats!
This valuable resource served as an amazing blessing during the preparation of our junior high young women's empowerment retreat. Not only did it fill in the missing pieces with creativity and ease, but it offered an enormous supply of new, engaging program activities-far more than I could ever fit into one weekend!
From self-expression introductory games to liturgies, stories, discussion suggestions, and dramatic presentations, Daughters Arise! vastly contributed to the success of our young women's event. The book is nicely divided into two sections: the first focuses on the preparation of retreat leaders, whereas the second clearly outlines event activities, schedules, and promotion. One of the many sections I'm deeply impressed by is "Tipi Time." "Tipi Time" involves a beautiful series of self-appreciation discussions, addressing the challenging transitions girls encounter upon entering womanhood. With noteworthy background knowledge and poise, the authors transform this presumably negative experience into one of joyous celebration and blessings!
Due to pressing retreat deadlines at the time this resource was generously placed into my hands, I was only able to implement a few of the many outstanding Daughters Arise! activities during our first young women's empowerment event. However, I excitedly look forward to incorporating many more program ideas into future retreats, and I highly recommend this book for anyone working with junior or senior high young women!

Standing on the Shoulders of Those Who have Gone Before
When I was a young teenager, there was a woman in our community who expressed interest in my thoughts and feelings. She took my inner world seriously, and felt more accessible than my own mother. I was sure she had experiences I wanted to know about, like ambivalent boyfriends, sex (I was still betting on three virgin births for my mom) and other mysteries I could barely imagine. With respect, compassion, and good humor, she took my floundering, insecure self under her wing, and let me know I was strong, competent, and capable of trusting my own wisdom and making my own choices. She gave me "Free to Be You and Me" - the lively recording of music and story put out by Marlo Thomas & Friends to help children and young adults celebrate their uniqueness and expand beyond gender stereotypes. It was 1973, and although I hadn't heard of the term, she was my first mentor.

Daughters Arise! A Christian Retreat Resource for Girls Approaching Womanhood takes this wonderful concept - women mentoring young girls on the threshold of adolescence - and offers a highly practical guide for creating a retreat with a group of young women and their mentors - mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other adult women. But just as important as the practical advice, interwoven throughout is the story of how the authors - three women highly committed to bringing the voices of women into all aspects of their faith - set about creating an experience that would grant meaning and dignity to each girls' individual experience of herself, God, and the world around her. Exploring concepts of leadership, decision-making, and the sacred container of the Circle, the heart and soul of Daughters Arise! lies in teaching each young woman to trust the spirit and wisdom that lives within her.

Drawing on Biblical stories, ancient folk tales such as Vasalisa the Wise (Cinderella's much more interesting predecessor) and the work of anthropologist Angeles Arrien, the book is clearly written, well organized, and a tremendous resource for music, stories, crafts, poems and prayers. It made me recall, in the beautiful words of the authors, the women whose shoulders I am standing upon, brought new meaning to old tales, and might even inspire me to unearth my art supplies and dust the cobwebs off my journal.

Her eye bent to the natural
Sally Keith's first collection presents the reader with the rare--ever too rare--treat of finding in your own mind the vision of her honest poetic eye. It is an eye that searches through nature for knowledge--not the type of knowledge that one walks away from with the profit of fact, but rather, that humble knowledge of finding yourself always involved and complicated by the world she's gazing at. Each poem feels a step into a snow-covered field, and rather than glorify the act by noticing the footprint, she notices instead how the horizon retreats a step further away as she nears. Keith innately senses that the eye atuned to the natural is also nature's eye. And yet, as a lover to the beloved, the poet longs for the distance by which to behold and see truly that which she loves. (I can even sense the unexpected solution: how the world gazes back, lovingly, at her.)

She is a poet of humble audacity--any serious reader will count him or herself lucky for the conversation of reading.

Credo ut Intelligam
St. Anselm's motto (I believe that I may understand) centers the sharp movements, the honest ontological concerns, of this knockout first book. Intense observation stained by a giving over of the subjective to landscape, to the pool of the moment, allow Sally Keith to operate a voice at once omnicient and stunningly interior. The forms here are open and accomplished. At times a tense dimeter-driven line is packed with sense data and the metaphysic (not the Post-postmodern) interruption:

"Mid-morning's wrens/ wrap my house (frantic/ fealty) in chords of flight// ephemeral--voiced./ Branched things (I/ stretched too far)"

She also exhibits, in more discursive poems, a hard-earned understanding of white space. In her composition, she indulges no arbitrary or purely visual placements, but uses space as a genuine extension of perception and mode--terribly rare among poets of any age group. To say how these forms engage the book's large ambitions, and how enjoyable that engagement is, would take a review too lengthy for digestion. In my mind, this book places the poet among a handful (if that) of genuine artists in the craft under the age of thirty-five. This is not a debut, but a revelation.
