A dozen key biographies from the history of Japan
The "Images Across the Ages" series explores the history and culture of various parts of the world through short biographies of people from different walks of life across history. "Japanese Portraits" by Dorothy and Thomas Hoobler begins with "The Prince of Sacred Virtue-Shotoku Taichi," who sponsored the adoption of the high culture of China to "Salesman to the World-Akio Morita," who founded what is now known as the Sony Corporation. There is a nice balance in this collection between great figures such as Yoritomo the first Shogun and Saigo Takemori the last Samurai, and lesser known figures from history, such as Okuni the inventor of "kabuki" and the shrewd businesswoman Mitsui Shuho. I found myself wondering if I could pick a dozen figures from American history and do as well as the Hooblers did in selecting these twelve biographies to represent the history of Japan. These biographies are illustrated by Victoria Bruck, who makes a nice effort to reflect the art style of the period in which the person lived, or, with "'An Old Man Mad With Painting'-Hokusai" in the actual artistic style of the subject. Another important aspects of this volume is that each story contains excerpts from the writings of the subjects themselves. Other volumes in the series provide portraits of African, Chinese, French, Italian, Mexican, Russian, and South American people.

The Jefferson Way (Great Presidential Decisions)

Delighting in Jefferson's decisions
This book, although geared toward an adolescent audience, provided me not only with an excellent background in to Jefferson's life and decisons, but also addressed issues about his presidency which is rarely found in any book for young adults. The language of the book is pithy and clear, and hence appropriate for any age group. My Grandmother adores the series, after reading any of the books she feels as though she has really learned something. Also, the books themselves are very attractive.

A Classic with Lovely Illustrations
The story of Johnny Appleseed is classic Americana, and this poem by Stephen Vincent and Rosemary Benet is both heart-warming and fun. Steven Schindler's art work is truly wonderful, lending a contemporary, playful feel to the book. My daughter is 4, and she asks for it every night at bedtime. I'm sure your little someone special will enjoy it, too.

Oustanding Insight into sexually dysfunctional childhood....
Amazing reading... Joyous Sexuality has captured the essence of sexual dysfunction problems and how they relate to adult life. Mic Hunter has simply, but eloquently, shown how successful recovery can be achieved if one will only follow and adhere to the 12 step program outlined in the book. He has also provided workspace to allow the reader to participate which is necessary for successful recovery. I recommend this book to anyone with any form of sexual addiction or relationship difficulties.

Good book.
This was one of my favorite Her Story books. It is about Julie, a young girl who travels west with her family by covered wagon on the Oregon Trail in the 1840s. If you liked the other Her Story books you will like this one.

Ehxcellent!
I love this book! I knew Jeremy as a child, and am delighted to see Mary's stories that she wrote for him all that time ago actually in print! They haven't lost any of their original charm, and they remain favourites of mine, even after all this time. I recommend this book to any family with small children.

My Favorite New York Guide Book
This is my favorite New York Guidebook. I lived in New York City for 5 years, and although I was in my thirties, whenever my friends would come to visit me in New York, I would pull out my Kid's Guide to New York to remind me of the most fun things to do in the city. Too bad it is 12 years old. Much of the material is still valuable, and it wouldn't take much to update it for 2002. I'd like to give a copy to a 9 year old who will be visiting the city for the first time next month.

The Ledgend of Grizzilly Adams and Kodiak Jack
The Ledgend of Grizzily Adams and Kodiac Jack is a great book. I'm not one to read, I just never really liked it, but I got this book as a gift and I couldn't put it down. In fact I liked it so much that I read it a second time to pick up the details I missed the first time around. Grizzily Adams is a mountain man that moved from Boston MA, to California. While he's out there he makes friends and enimies. Most of his friends out in the wilderness are animals, like his pet bear Ben Franklin who he rescues from hunters after Ben's mother was shot at and left. This book has it all, action and some fact behind it since Grizzily Adams is a real person. I would recomend this book to anyone that likes the wood and enjoys books about men who opened up the west. Thomas L. Tedrow knows how to write a good book.

Great Book!
This is a great book for children. Our children loved it! Itshows how a family moving out west is caught between two differentIndian tribes, one of which has a legend about how someone would come someday to show them the way to God. In short, one tribe finds Christ as a result of the Bannons evangelism. Great questions at the end of each chapter.
