excellent anthology
Editor Gillian Avery says in the introduction that this is a book of poems that "the owner will not outgrow." Thus these are poems that hold as much value for adults as for the young. (Some other book has in its title "for the young of all ages;" I like that concept!) This is a wonderful mix of verse both serious and fun, divided into sections: Rhymes and Nonsense, The Year and its Seasons, Journeys and Places, Spells Magic and Mystery, Strange Tales, Music and Dancing, Battles Soldiers and Patroits, Birds and Beasts, Childhood and Youth, Some People, Love and Lovers' Tales, Last Things. A fine volume.

Natures Game of Hide and Seek
In a tangle of purple thistles, a pair of shiny black eyes blink inquisitively. Then with a sharp chatter and a flash of cinnamon stripes they disappear. This book introduces young wildlife enthusiasts to many of the creatures that live in the wilds of North America. Knowledge of wildlife is carefully condensed to a few succulent facts that entice readers to become active observers. Characterictics, habitat and environmental concerns are briefly addressed, but the focus remans on idintification. Beautiful color photographs capture the creatures in their natural environment. At the back of the book is a section that gives pointers on successful wildlife watching and additional facts. It lists animals that typically share the same habitat, and suggest locations where these groups may be observed.

The Fallen #1: The Fallen
Published in Digital by Pocket Pulse ()

Amazon base price: $4.99
Average review score:

Excellent Book!
I began reading The Fallen, and I had to admit, it was a little slow at first. But as soon as I got into it, I couldn't put it down! The author really does a good job of capturing all of the view points, and the characters and plot just keeps surprising you. To give the plot would be to give something away, so read it yourself! I give it two thumbs up; highly recomended.

Another Exquisite book by Thomas Locker
My daughter and I can't get enough of Thomas Locker's incredible artwork. His gorgeous paintings in Mare on the Hill, Gray Wolf Country, and Family Farm are museum-quality. Family Farm is a wonderful, poignant story about a family trying to keep their farm going for another season. Locker writes about what he knows, and each page is infused with emotion. Any child over the age of 6 who dreams of living in the country will love this story.

Well-Known Stories for Children
I especially like the way this book has been organized. The layout is also quite colorful with borders around the text and illustrations.

The stories included in this book:

God Makes the World
Adam and Eve
Noah's Ark
Joseph's Dream
Joseph in Egypt
Moses in the Bulrushes
The Ten Plagues
The Crossing of the Red Sea
Samson and Delilah
David and Goliath
Solomon's Judgment
Daniel in the Lion's Den
Jonah and the Great Fish
The Birth of Jesus
The Wise Men's Visit
Jesus in the Temple
The Temptations in the Wilderness
The Wedding in Cana
Three Miracles
Jesus the Storyteller
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
Martha, Mary, and Lazarus
The Last Supper
The Crucifixion
The Resurrection

There is also a section of "Who's Who in the Bible.

These are rich stories that teach children great lessons, like how to choose between good and evil. Every child deserves to hear these wonderful stories. During my childhood, the Bible stories were some of my favorite stories of all time.

Each story has plenty of pictures. If you are reading to a younger child, they can look at the pictures on the left, while you read the story on the right.

Beautiful Illustrations!

the independent publisher is ridiculous
okay, so i don't own the book, but the poem is exquisite, and i've been a fan of it since childhood. unlike the independent publisher, i don't think that children are ever too little to be exposed to poetry or art, and murray kimber's work is stunning. perhaps if they read the poem they'd figure out where the horse motif comes from. jeez, guys, maybe you could sound a bit more pompous and uninformed if you tried, but i don't see how.

A Magical World
Written by Thomas Hobson, "Find the Yendi" is a book about another world, a world of magic, in which six children suddenly find themselves. Their job in this world is to find "Yendi", an all-powerful force who is supposed to have all answers. Suddenly, the children are separated, and each one must deal with this new world in his or her own way, with the friends and the enemies they find along their path. They learn that this is a world of thought, and not of speech, and they also find many friendly creatures, especially "Go-Go", who aid them. A true work of fantasy and suspense.

A Gentle Read
I am not ready to introduce my toddlers to the more violent aspects of the bible, and this book skirts them nicely. I like theses short stories which provide an easy platform for talking about God's promises and grace. ...
