Delightful
I was fortunate to hear the author speak in the early 90s in my hometown of Syracuse, NY. He is an engaging storyteller. It was then that I discovered his book. The artwork in this edition is rich and appealing. The vignettes of each moon, combined with the illustrations, make an appealing canvas for young and/or exploring minds.

Traditional View of Seasonal meanings
This book is an excellent work of Native American children's literature. Joseph Bruchac is a well-known Abenaki story-teller who profiles in this book the thirteen moons of the year, and profiles for each moon what is important about that season to different Native Nations. The artwork is a beautiful compliment to the story. If you are looking for a solid and sensitive look at inter-tribal stories for children, this is a great place to start!

Read it on Best of Thomas
I read this book on my Best of Thomas DVD with and without narration, and I feel like getting this book. I also like to get Thomas tells a lie, and Hooray For Thomas. Percy had seen a dinosaur. He thinks it was a dragon. Thomas goes out. He tells Percy. He goes back to the forest. He doesn't know until the driver said it was a dinosaur model for the new dinosaur park. Harold comes and lifts the model on the flat truck. Men fasten it. Percy sees it. Thomas tells him "Don't worry Percy, this isn't a dragon. This is a dinosaur model for the new dinosaur park." He passes the school, and the children waved. He gets three cheers from Sir Topham Hatt and all the people who are desining the park and his driver, fireman, and conductor.

Thomas stories for younger fans
This is my son's favorite Thomas the Tank Engine story because it is written at his level. The Jellybean Books are written for younger children and this story is very engaging and involves a dinosaur, a subject close to the hearts of many youngsters. This is the perfect book for any young Thomas the Tank Engine fan.

A look at the multi-faceted character of Thomas Jefferson
"Thomas Jefferson: A Picture Book Biography" does an excellent job of providing a simplified yet well-rounded portrait of one of the more complex figures in American history. Instead of detailing Jefferson's long list of accomplishments, author James Cross Giblin takes a more anecdotal approach which treats his childhood and his private life on an equal footing with the things he wrote and offices he held in public life. This is a book that looks at Jefferson's first term as President in terms of the Louisiana Purchase and the mockingbird that kept him company in his study. Sally Hemmings is mentioned several times as an important house slave, but without bringing up the evidence she was the half-sister of Jefferson's wife or that she bore Jefferson several children after his wife died. However, Jefferson's affection for Maria Cosway is covered. The end result is an understand more of the man than of the political figure; for example, young readers will have no appreciation for how the Jeffersonian Republicans differed from the Federalists. The back of this book includes a list of important dates in his life, several choice examples of excerpts from letters written by Jefferson, and a two-page description of what a Visit to Monticello would have been like when Jefferson lived there. Michael Dooling's illustrations consist of fully textured oil paintings over which the text is printed. Ultimately, the illustrations in this Picture Book Biography take a back seat to the way the text presents the multi-faceted character of the man who might have been the third President, but who wanted on his tombstone inscribed: "Author of the Declaration of American Independence, of the Statue of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and Father of the University of Virginia. When young students read over this biography, they will understand why those were the most important things in Jefferson's life.

An excellent book for elementary school children
My second-grader decided to research Thomas Jefferson for a school report. I ordered this book and was quite pleased. It has lots of good information without being wordy. In the back of the book is a two-page spread of quotes from Jefferson, as well as a timeline of his life. The illustrations are beautiful! Highly recommended.

Absolute best first Bible
I was so sad when this book went out of print. I have used it for my three children and look forward to using it for my fourth. My oldest child quit using it when he was four, but then started again when he began reading at age 6. My 5 year old daughter reads it to my toddler. It is the best for scripture memory and identifying with Jesus! I started reading it to each of my children at about 4 months, sitting with them a few times a day and also using it during changing table times. I have bought many copies for new mothers and wish it would come back into print.

EASY-TO-LEARN BIBLE VERSES/Great pictures for children
This is an excellent first bible for children. The bible verses are easy to remember, with the colorful pictures-and stories relating the verses to every day life. Watch your child gleam, when they recite the verses, by looking at the pictures. A MUST for your children's library.

Delightful, read in one evening.
This was a delightful fictional account of two ten year old boys' adventures and escapades while living at home in rural Virginia during the Civil War. They are delightfully innocent of modern day attitudes, and the story is sympathetic to both sides of the conflict in the sense that war is difficult for both sides involved. The relationships are heart-warming and real. The boys demonstrate budding character traits of honorable young men. Highly recommended for a Southern view of the Old South.

best southern based book ever?
this is one of the first southern prospective civil war books i have ever read and it will probebly be the best it even kept that southern voice

An in depth persspective on the time line of ecology.
As Tom was forming the images for this book he fell extremely ill. While in a deep and long coma he met Henry and based upon that meeting several of the images in this book were changed. These beautiful images of the Hudson River and in particular Storm King Mountain will haunt and excite you as you consider how this area was formed and has survived man's interference. The essence of this area will be finally synthesized in his next book, The Story of a River. When completed this will give you a private insight into time and ecology not found anywhere else.

A warm and resplendently beautiful picture book
Written and illustrated by Thomas Locker, Walking With Henry is a warm and resplendently beautiful picture book based on the life and works of Henry David Thoreau. Majestic painted landscapes showcase simple descriptions drawn from and inspired by the man who loved to walk in the wilderness. Walking With Henry is a highly recommended and heartwarming tribute suitable for young readers of all ages, and aptly serve to introduce the life and work of America's most famous and enduringly popular naturalists.

My Thomas loves it!
My little Thomas loves this book! He loves all the flaps and has nearly read the book to pieces. Bright colors, animals, children, so many things for him to enjoy. He's only 2, and he has enjoyed this book since he was old enough to listen to Mommy reading. I highly recommend this book!

Great fun for children!
My son absolutely loves this book! We started reading it together when he was just a year old, and he still loves it. Several months ago our original was ruined while on a trip (juice cup leaked and stuck the board-pages together). Since it was a shower gift, I had no idea where to find it. On a whim (since it's now the holiday season) I looked here on Amazon.com and am ecstatic to find it! I can't wait to see my son's face on Christmas when he sees his beloved Thomas book. The story is very simple, following Thomas through his day, and the pictures allow for many imagination-side-trips. All in all, I'm happy to add this (again!) to our library.

A Guide for any College Studnet
I am currently reading What About God and I can't imagine what my months at college would be like without this book. Each week's devotional focus is thought provoking and on target. Neinast seems to know exactely what things college students will be facing throughout their first year of college. For anyone wanting to know God more, grasp His amazing love, and find strength and encouragement while facing one of the most life changing years, this book is a must. This book will definately help the reader to grow in their Christian walk.

Spiritually challenging and very 'real.'
Here - in a book that young adult readers will find remarkably beckoning - one will discover not only an intelectually stimulating, but a spiritually-challenging combination of insight, wit, and wisdom which challenges, amuses and provides - with remarkable impact - realistic, meaningful connections to the contemporary life experiences of the contemporary young adult. "What About God" links 'head to heart,'and 'soul to spirit' in a remarkably mature manner, providing both intellectual stimulation and meaningful challenges for faithful daily living.

Fantastic
Fantastic how both illustrator and author can put so much heart and detail into a childrens book. Great story; not one of those nonsensical ones that flood the market today. A delight for both parent and child. So much to see and discover on every page. And during the next read one spots yet another little detail.

It's difficult to take a strangers recommendation, but this book is great (as is Winnie The Witch).

A very stimulating book with superb illustrations.
This story was so good it inspired us to write our own Winnie adventures. The story was fun and made you feel warm and cosy at the end. The illustrations were fantastic - a cartoon witch that was not too scary! Every time we read it we saw something new.
