Excellent little novel
For children, this is a superb read. Rest assured, though, it gets better with age. As my all-time favorite book, I even bought a special-edition hardcover to pass on to my own little girl. 'The Secret Garden' is a delightful story that can be interpreted on a variety of levels, from a beautiful little story to an intensely moving classic, and each time it is read a new Truth can be derived. I highly recommend 'The Secret Garden' to both children and adults, preferably read from childhood into adulthood.
As an aside, unfortunately the movie version of 'The Secret Garden' is no match for the book. It presents a trite and overacted children's piece that isn't suitable for idiots. I wouldn't subject my child to it.

A literature that the none-literature readers will love.
It's amazing for me to read a book in tree days and want to read it again.I'm a Chinese, but I just can't resist the story line printed on the cover, and I bought a English version.I thought I can read it slowly and prectice my English, but I finished in only three days.
Three person who can't love and got together in a great house.Mary,Collin, and Mr.Craven was teached what love is and how to love others by theyselves and by a magical natual-love boy,Dickon. And finally the great house bathed in terror came bake to the arm of the love.
I can't write too much about this book. The ending will make you laugh with happiness and make you cry moved by the ending.
You really should not only read it,but also own one.

Mary Draper Ingles my 5th Great GrandMother
This book and the book Follow the River are both excellent depictions of the life of my ancestor. She was a heroic woman who shall be remembered and honored by me and all my family members. We are proud of her and are happy to have such excellent books to share.
This is an exciting book!
Mary Ingles was courageous! I read it in one night and I'm going to read it again. I'd read about Mary Ingles in the book Follow the River, but I didn't know she lived in Lancaster or that her parents were Scotch Irish. This book tells about her whole life including escape from the Indians. That's the most exciting part though when she hikes 800 miles through rivers and mountains to get home and see her family. I think this is a very good book so I gave it five stars!

Enhanced with vivid, colorful illustrations
Sixteen Miles To Spring is a cheerful and entertaining picturebook story by Andrew Pelletier of Maddy, a young girl and her father who meet two strangers, Wilbur and Wiley, just in time for everyone to celebrate the arrival of spring. A thoroughly enjoyable picturebook for young readers, and enhanced with vivid, colorful illustrations by Katya Krenina, Sixteen Miles To Spring is about the renewal of life and the joy of nature's reawakening.
Sixteen Miles to Spring
This is a wonderfully original and highly imaginative story about the change of seasons from winter to spring. I highly recommend it!

Perfect Bedtime Story for a Father to his Son
From the first time that I have read this book, I have loved it. The story is all about a young boy, and his desire to be big like his father. The relationship between father and son is wonderful, and the story is soothing. The illustrations lend to the story, and create a GREAT bedtime story. A MUST READ. Don't miss this one dads.
Perfect for parent/child bonding and bedtime reading
Simply but effectively written by Francine Poppo Rich and beautifully illustrated by Thomas P. DiFilippi, Small, Not Tall is a heartwarming picturebook about a young boy who wants his small life to be bigger. His toy car, his feet, and his stool are too small, and he can't reach anything beyond the sink faucet. But then he learns something really terrific about being small that makes it special. The gentle, slightly abstract illustrations and short, simple sentences make Small, Not Tall an excellent book for young readers just getting started and perfect for parent/child bonding and bedtime reading.
Spy in the Sky

Excellent historical fiction for third or fourth graders.
Kathleen Karr's Spy in the Sky is not just another Civil War book. In fifty-five pages the reader not only learns to care about the characters but also learns of this unique use of gas balloons in war. Teachers will find this useful in the Social Studies units. Third and fourth graders will be able to read it independently. Karr ends with a two page biography of Thaddeus Lowe. It is quite a story packed into 55 pages.
More than just a children's book...
Thaddeus Lowe is the undisputed father of our U.S. Airforce, and grandfather to famed aviatrix Florence Lowe, aka Pancho Barnes. This children's book tell's Thadddeus's Civil War story as never told before. A great way to share aviation history with your children, and learn a little something for yourself too. - Stan McClain

Good Reivew
I read this book, and Joyce Milton, sure did a good book about the first president of the united states, who married Martha Dandrige Washington, got his face on a quarter, and got his face on a penny. I give it a ...(5 out of 5), and I give it 5 stars.
George Washington Quiet Hero
This book was a worthy tribute to our first President who was truly a quiet and even a reluctant hero. It told something of his boyhood, but the main focus was on his part in the formation of the United States. The reading was perfect for my sixth grade readers, and also held the interest of my Asian college-aged exchange students who are here to study American culture.
The Summer Book
Published in Paperback by Schocken Books (1988)
Amazon base price: $6.95

A perfect book
The connection between grandmother and granddaughter is a marrow-deep one in "Summer Book." Sophia and her grandmother spend their days exploring, talking about life, nature, everything but their feelings about Sophia's mother's death and their love for one another. And yet, underneath the offhand, and often strange conversations that take place between them, you feel their affection and the concern they feel for one another.
"Summer Book" is a strange and beautiful story. There's no false emotions here, no manipulation for the sake of effect. Just an account of a very real relationship between a child and her grandmother, during the last weeks of the grandmother's life. Very highly recommended.
Real Life
This is a book about Sophia, whose mother has died. She lives with her father, who is a writer, and her grandmother, and they spend their summers on an island. Her father is preoccupied with his writing, and Sophia's grandmother is old and infirm. They do not know it, but this summer marks the last weeks, days, and finally hours of Grandmother's life.
Talking With Children and Young People About Death and Dying: A Workbook
Published in Paperback by Jessica Kingsley Pub (1998)
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:
An informative and useful book , very well presented
This is the only book that I could easily find about this difficult subject. It dealt clearly with all the issues concerned and did not tell you what to say, rather it gave you ideas and the confidence to find your own way. It is beautifully written. It covers many areas the ordinary person might not think of. I recommend it to counselors working with bereaved children. It is very helpful.
A thoughtful, sensitive and imaginative book.
This is a handbook for adults to help children cope with death and dying. These are difficult subjects to broach with other adults, and more difficult when talking with children, who may have very different fears and thoughts and misperceptions. Ms. Turner presents death and dying in their place as part of living, accepts their inevitablity, the pain and, most importantly, how there are sometimes no answers to the question "why?". The book is for adults to use, then to adapt to the needs of the child they are talking with. It is sensitive to different attitudes to dying among different religions and races. I would recommend it for teachers, counselors and parents. It is particularly helpful in giving insight into how a child's mind works. I have never seen a book which covers all the areas as this one does.
Tank Engine Thomas Again

Just Lovely for Train Lovers
When my 3-yr old takes an interest in something, it usually becomes an all-out obsession: dinosaurs, construction vehicles, space and so it continues with Thomas the Tank Engine. We've read other books and rented videos, but these books (there are four in this series) are his beloved. The stories are simple and plentiful with a bit of a moral to them, without being pretentious or zealous. The writing style is delightful: adult enough not to bore the reader and yet perfectly understandable for the listener (assuming it's a child!). The pictures are clear but not movie or television tie-ins - it makes them more lovable! The books are small and my son loves to stack them and carry them around with him.
If your child loves Thomas and you're tired of media tie-ins, these books are for you!
A Classic
This book is a hit with my three-and-a-half-year old. Not only are the four stories interesting enough to hold his attention, but the ample illustrations are charming. Also, the relatively small size of the book makes it perfect for small hands to hold when the child "reads" it to himself. The stories are sweet without being cloying. The language is fairly sophisticated (in other words, the book doesn't talk down to kids, which is great), but accessible. The stories have kind of an old-fashioned feel, -- after all, we are talking about steam engines -- but their upbeat messages are just as relevant for kids today. For instance, Thomas learns how to work with others and how NOT to "judge a book by its cover". This book will probably be a favorite in our house for some years to come!
