A Book that makes the heart feel light and full
I had never heard of Michele Geraldi (the author) or Lowilo (the book) before I happened to see it on a library table. When I tried to check it out, the library said it wasn't theirs. Once I read it through I realized why I was meant to find it that day. I felt relieved, sad, happy, and most of all, HOPEFUL. I felt like the author had no doubt in her mind that ANYTHING in life was impossible, and since she was so confident, I had no choice but to believe her. The cover drew me in right away."What is 'Lowilo'?" I thought, and what was it about the simple, somewhat blurry cover that allured me so much. The book itself, the words are very down to earth, witty, and matter-of-fact...but then there is also a very mystical feeling that surrounds it as well. I encourage the publishers to market this book much more. If the word can get out more I believe the result would be overwhelming. Everyone should read this for some reason or another.

Original, Provocative, Inspiring and Masterful
It is obvious while reading Lowilo that the author is implying so much more than she is writing. The affects of the implications are so powerful that I felt I was twisting the words in a million different ways, reading it over and over, trying to find new meanings, new reasons as to why she was saying what she was.
The book is set in poem form. It is a collection of poems that are individual stories which add up to be thematic and climactic. Since the stories are poems, there are lines within them that show great pain and hint towards a major event in ones life. Since Ms. Geraldi maintains a sense of vagueness, it is up to the reader to figure out what exactly she is trying to say and what happened exactly during this major event.
You find yourself feeling similarly to when you are trying to solve a very difficult crossword puzzel. The answers are in the book, so you will not feel dissapointed. The exciting part is trying to find them. For that, you have to search.
When you find the answers, you realize that you not only figured out what Ms. Geraldi was trying to say, but that you actually have felt the same way as well...and everything that you thought was so bad once upon a time, suddenly seems a little bit simpler.
The poetry made me feel young and innocent like when I would read Shel Silverstein as a kid. The words, the pain, the saddness, and the love made me feel like I could never be alone.
I hope Ms. Geraldi continues to write books like these.

SO different yet so beautiful
This book is really something special. I am not really even sure if "book" describes it right. IT is more like a collection that has an incredible theme and message. The way the author uses words and symbolism is positive in a way unlike I have read before. Yet, even though often her words rhyme, they are not vague like poetry. It is more like a novel that rhymes and they rhyme for a reason which is clearly stated in the first 5 pages. It flows right through and hard to put down for a moment. I have never seen so many different sides of emotion before, or even felt as many as are displayed in this book. IT is truly amazing to see how they all tie into each other, the way the author shows in this book. Beautiful, just beautiful. This is a book that is appropriate for all (except under 10 maybe, there are maybe two or three swear words and some sexual inuendo)I am glad to have read this book and hope everyone will find the "completeness" and satisfaction I felt after reading it. Five stars!

AWESOME BOOK: PERFECT FOR MAC EVANGELISTS & APPLE LOVERS
Guy Kawasaki has written a great book on Apple and the Apple business method. Very funny. Extremely unique and marvelous, like Apple. Perfect for brushing up your Mac Evangelist skills! One of the best books I've ever read, and I'm not even done! Guy truly embodies the Macintosh Spirit. everything about the book, from the footnotes to the illustrations, is like the artistic perfection of Macintoshes! GUY KAWASAKI RULES!!!EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK AND BUY A MAC!!!!!!

Formula for over the top success against all odds
The teams I have been a part of that followed the basic attitude that Guy outlines here have accomplished amazing things against all odds. On other teams, the farther we got away from these ideas, the more mediocre the end results turned out. If you want to create an environment where world changing events will happen, you need to read this book.

Stickingly Simple Basics for a Successful Growing Business
Guy Kawasaki's "The Macintosh Way" empowers the very essence of understanding the principles of evangelism and doing the "right thing the right way" in business. This book and his other book " "Selling the Dream" should be required reading for startup companies. Values and principles in business are the key to success. Guy's keen sense of humour and reference to examples of what did and didn't work for the Apple Computer Corporation, while he worked there in the early 80's, is a fascinating perspective. Here, you will see how an successful company like Apple grows from innovation to mediocrity. For Mac users, this is a praticularly fascinating insight but should be required reading for all CEO's and directors of growing companies. It is an insightful collection of practicle examples of what and what not to do in business.

The Story of the 17th Karmapa
I highly recommend this book, which recounts the story of Orgyen Trinley, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, who is the spiritual leader of the Karma Kagyu, one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The Karmapa, now eighteen years old, made a daring escape from Tibet to India in early January of 2000. He was born in 1985 to a nomad family in eastern Tibet. From an early age he showed special qualities, and in 1992 was discovered and brought to Tsurphu, the main Kagyu monastery in Tibet, which was being rebuilt after its destruction during the cultural revolution. Karmapa was recognized by the Chinese government as well as by the Dalai Lama, but decided to leave when the Chinese would not allow him access to his main teachers to receive the special training necessary to continue his lineage. He now lives in Dharamsala, the home of the Dalai Lama, where he gives teachings and audiences and writes poetry as well as pursuing his studies, and from which he travels to teach and visit pilgrimage sites. Michelle Martin tells his story, including the thrilling details of his escape, and then presents translations of his teachings and poetry. Well researched and beautifully written, Music in the Sky introduces Karmapa to the world as a profound leader of a deep spiritual tradition.

An all incompassing book
This book begins with an intriguing look into the life of the famous Buddhist teenager from Tibet, head of one of the four traditional lineages, who escaped over the Himalayas to India. Bound under one cover are actually five small volumes. The first is the Karmapa's life story from the time of his discovery and return to his monastery through to his education, escape from Tibet (a thrilling adventure) and his residence in India. The second section is a selection of his teachings, including a series on meditation that would allow anyone to begin. There are also sophisticated descriptions of the nature of mind according to different philosophical schools.

The third section presents his wonderful and varied poetry with notes to elucidate it. The fourth is a history of his previous reincarnations and a traditional narrative of his lineage. The fifth generously provides 40 pages of color photos of the Karmapa, his teachers, and family. The book is rich in Tibetan lore and Buddhist teachings, accessible to the beginner, and also full of treasures for one familiar with this tradition.

The 17 th Karmapa is back!
The Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism has gone through a rough spell since the death of the 16th Karmapa in 1981. Twenty years later his reincarnation has returned, and he is about to light up the Vajrayana world big time. When first reading this book, I engaged the hair-raising story of his escape from communist-suppressed Tibet with an open, but discriminating mind & heart. His teachings are profound, and rock solid for any Buddhist practicioner (let alone a teenager). The initial signs emanating from this young man are of impending spiritual greatness...emptiness, compassion, and bliss will be flowing from him,as lineage source for (hopefully) many years to come. We have waited a long time for his return, and it's with joy and celebration that we welcome him back. The world desparately needs genuine bodhisattvas...and he clearly is one already. His poems have plenty of depth and beauty already, and his Dharma talks are stunningly clear, for someone his age. The thought of what he may evolve into 20 years from now is staggering!

Pasquala: The Story of a California Indian Girl
Published in Paperback by Magpie Pubns (1990)

Early California History Comes Alive!
The book Pasquala is about a brave girl who suffers because her dad and mom die. Pasquala is a strong character because her uncle who adopts her isn't very kind to her. For example, he doesn't let her go to the mourning ceremony or be in the ceremony changing kids into adults. Pasquala is the book's narrator, and she is a good one because she helps others. She saves the padres when she runs for 3 days and nights to warn them about an attack, and that's why she dies. I think that the book is good and it teaches a valuable lesson: we need to help others and then they are going to help us back when we need it. Pasquala even got her name from a padre who calls her that because she helps others. I like this book a lot, and think most kids my age would enjoy reading it. I learned many things from this book, such as how Yokuts Indians collected salt.

PASQUALA: THE STORY OF A CALIFORNIA INDIAN GIRL
The genre is historical fiction. The story began when Pasquala and her mother were hiding in a cave because they saw soldados coming to their village. Pasquala was scared when she sees shadows near the cave opening so she closes her eyes and then feels a hand touch her; when she opens her eyes her father is right in front of her. Her father said the soldados had gone. After a couple days they go to the Pacific Ocean and on their way back Pasquala gets sick, so they have to take her to the mission to save her life. After a while they start living at the mission. One day her father finishes a beautiful saddle, so now the soldados want him to take it to the presidio where the soldiers live. When he gets back he is sick and dies. But before he dies he tells Pasquala and her mother to leave the mission. When Pasquala and her mom go back, the other villagers don't really like them anymore, because they had to do their work while they were gone. From this book I learned a lot about the Yokuts Indians who lived in the Central Valley. The book was short (about 90 pages) and easy to read. I liked the ending because usually most books have a happy ending; this one was sad. Read this book, it's enjoyable and a great way to learn about Califoria history and geography.

Great book for California 4th Graders!
The authors have done a fabulous job in bringing to life what it must have been like to be a little Yokut indian girl living in California's Great Central Valley 200 years ago. It teaches a great deal about the Yokut way of life and how things started to change when the Spanish arrived with their missions along California's coast. This is a fast read! You won't be able to put it down! Each turn of the page brings little Pasquala to a place in your heart where she will remain long after you finish the book. It is a fantastic book for 4th grade teachers to read aloud to their classes. It is also an excellent book for anyone who simply enjoys reading a well-written compelling story.

Heartwarming Stories
Captivating stories that then challenge you to pray in many different areas. Well-written, interesting and worth reading.

Nourishing Words
Each short story has a "draw you in" quality and an emotional tone that I had either experienced or witnessed in others. This book shows the real, non-perfect, often frustrating Christian walk of life. Yet the prayers, scripture and quotes put the focus back on the wonderful truth of God's loving care for us. This makes a great gift for a neighbor, friend or relative no matter what their stage in life or maturity in Christ.

Praying with a purpose
This book is more than just a devotional...it's full of practical prayers that help women bear up under the stress and strain of nurturing those around them. No matter what situation a woman finds herself in, these stories bring the tensions and struggles to the surface so they can be addressed and dealt with honestly. I'm reading two a day to get me started each morning and I'm finding my perspective on life is lifting!

Tess and Brandi

Simply scandalous fun
As the success of The Princess Diaries showed last year, everyone likes to read about an all-American girl who gets a surprise chance to become a princess. But in Michele Dunaway's latest, the princess-to-be must be investigated before she can be named as heir to the kingdom. And to her good fortune, and his dismay, the strong attraction between the young Princess Lucia and her older duty-driven investigator cannot be denied. The princess is determined that his investigation into her character extend beyond formality into intimacy. Montcalm, the career military man assigned to the task, treats the princess with respect for as long as his will can hold and tries to protect her from the consequences of their fling. The book is a happy union of plush settings and a wide range of characters who want the best for each other. The base problem of royalty and commoner, complicated by the self-doubt of the older lover, resolves with a strong set-up for the following story in this series about the Carradignes.

Tender and romantic - Very highly recommended
Having eliminated his eldest two American granddaughters from inheriting his throne, King Easton of Korosol orders the investigation of his third granddaughter. Now the king orders retired General Montcalm, captain of the Royal Guard, to investigate Lucia Carradigne's background. Duty and devotion to his king motivates Harrison Montcalm. He once even took a bullet to save the king, but finds matter of the heart to be far more deadly. For the first time in his career, Harrison wishes someone else was the king's most trusted advisor.

If not for a scandalous article printed in a tabloid, no one would have questioned Lucia's suitability for the crown. Now this investigation to ascertain the validity of the tabloid's claims places Harrison in a dangerous position. His king attempts matchmaking between Lucia and Harrison's son, not knowing Harrison himself has fallen for the woman who is nineteen years younger. During their dance at her sister's wedding, Lucia likewise recognized the connection between them, and now welcomes the investigation as an opportunity to ignite the passion and fire that she leaves lurks beneath his cool exterior.

Author Michele Dunaway creates one of the tenderest romances I have had the pleasure to encounter in THE SIMPLY SCANDALOUS PRINCESS. Dunaway boldly allows a tremendous age difference to separate her Harrison and Lucia, and then throws the hero's son at Lucia. Despite her family best intentions, Lucia embraces the opportunities that come her way to show Harrison how she feels, gently seducing him into a relationship he never dreamed possible. Lucia provides him with healing and surprising wisdom; he inspires her creativity and brings her happiness. An unlikely match, Harrison and Lucia compliment one another with strength and fire, yet with a gentle quality seldom matches. A remarkable and beautiful tale, THE SIMPLY SCANDALOUS PRINCESS comes very highly recommended.

A Skillfully Told and Riveting Tale
This is an all around great book for young adults. This book has mystery, suspense, and a bit of melodrama. Just the right mix to keep young adult readers transfixed. You keep on turning pages and the book pratically reads itself. Another well written book from a good author.

A Spine-tingling, Nail-biting, Hair-raising Good Read!
Like in her other book, "Bottles of Eight and Pieces of Rum", the author really shows how thoroughly her work is researched. This story of two orphaned sisters is set in San Francisco around the turn of the century. Not only is the relationship of the girls extremely well fleshed out and very moving, but the story-line itself is fast-moving, suspenseful and very exciting. I read this book for the purposes (in part) of making sure it was suitable for my 10 year-old to read. What I found was that not only was it suitable for my child, I couldn't put it down either. This is a moving, gripping story that is wonderfully written and entertaining. I highly recommend it to all ages, and for boys and girls alike.

Truly a Thriller!
I didn't know what was going to happen, I couldn't put the book down! I felt like I was in the book, like I was watching things happen-- like a spy, or something. The story was a mix of suspense, mystery, adventure and unexpected events! I liked how the two sisters worked together to come out of a really tight fix. I liked how the bad characters were really evil--it wasn't just a story, it was a real thing that could happen in life. The characters were really real and it was funny at times what they did, and sad too, sometimes. I like how the story was put together, because it was like a sandwich. It didn't just have bread, it had lots of everything in it (with a toothpick on top!). I would recommend this book for everybody!

A hit with my JRT
Baked the "howl" wheat biscuits for my Jack Russell terrier this weekend, substituting missing link powder for the cornmeal. He really seems to like these biscuits. I plan to try the other recipes also.

Pleasing the Poodle Palate...
is exactly what the recipes in this book did! The bones are the perfect size for small training treats for any dog, and the recipes lend themselves well to adaptation (a batch of apple doggie bones, based on the veggie bone recipe but substituting two cups of grated apples for the veggies, pure unsweetened apple juice for the water, and with the addition of 1/4 c. molasses) are baking in the oven as I write this. My Standard Poodle knows what the cookie cutter looks like; once she sees the bones go in the oven, she walks by it every few minutes to check their progress and gives me beseeching looks if they're not ready...

Both my dogs (and many of my friends' and coworkers' dogs) give this book their enthuiastic howl of approval!

These biscuits are doggone good!
From whole wheat and vegetarian bones to BBQ bones, this book has a good variety of choices for your dog. The author gives tips for making perfect dog biscuits and also encourages adding your dogs favorite flavors to her recipes. Of the biscuits I have made so far, my dog has begged for seconds, which is more than I can say for most of the biscuits I have have bought for him at the store.
