I shudder at your touch
I bought this book in the early 90's and have read it with glee ever since then, dipping in every year or so when I've run out of anything else to to read. The stories within both scare and delight, my favourite being the delicious story by Christopher Fowler 'The Master Builder'

An inspiring book for any counselor.
This book contains a number of simple, yet powerful, suggestions for helping counseling clients move from domination by their problem to reliance on their own solutions and strengths. The authors are inspiring and I intend to apply the perspectives in my healing work as a counselor.

A truly vibrant, truly multicultural children's book.
A lively engaging book that captures the essence of the multicultural ideal. Readers are introduced to contemporary artists with many diverse cultural backgrounds through short autobiographical sketches, photographs, and self portraits. An explanation of the self portrait is also included in the sketch. This is a great way for kids (or adults for that matter) to learn about art and multiculturism at the same time!

A MUST HAVE PARENT'S TRAVEL RESOURCE!
Parenting can be so frustrating ... especially when your kids seem bored and are begging for creative ideas on something fun to do. Most of the time you end up at the local playground or amusement center for lack of better ideas.

"Entertaining children shouldn't be so hard. We wanted to make having fun family time easy. So, we researched and wrote this book" say parents/authors George and Michele Zavatsky. After 1000 hours of research and publishing, the result is their book, KIDS LOVE KENTUCKY. This book is part of a regional best-selling series including other titles for Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

KIDS LOVE KENTUCKY has kid-tested descriptions including great hints on what kids like best. This guide contains almost 200 pages packed full of 500 some places and events specifically designed for children between the ages of 2 - 15.

Kids can discover places from Boone to Burgoo, from Caves to Corvettes, and from Lincoln to Lands of Horses. It'll tell you how Appalacian and Pioneer folks live(d) and even how to pow-wow with Native Americans. You'll know where to go to stand side-by-side a Braille printer (and even get to try your hand at it), steer a boat, blow the whistle of a train, or learn the secrets of yummy chocolates.

Another weekend you'll have all the travel details you need to go behind the scenes of car assembly or learn the secrets to perfect pottery and woven linens (Secret: it takes loads of practice!). Of course, there's plenty of details on nationally known sites like skipping stones in creeks near Abe Lincoln's Boyhood Homes or purchasing a raccoon "Boone" cap and pretending to provide for your family while trying to keep peace with the Natives. There's lots of kid-friendly info on famous caves (even one you take a boat ride through!), singing a tune at My Old Kentucky Home and gazing at beautiful horses.

Getting back to nature is easy when you stay overnight in a wigwam, get inches away from a real shark, pet wallabies and kangaroos, see a prehistoric alligator turtle, hear the roar of humungous cascading falls, stroll through a bird paradise, or walk across a Natural Bridge.

If you're hungry, KIDS LOVE KENTUCKY knows where to dine on "hot browns", be a candy taste-tester, watch soft drinks mixed and bottled, and tell you how to eat your way through apple, barbecue, chicken, pumpkin, and sorghum festivals. Unusual theme restaurants include a log cabin, a real stagecoach stop or a riverboat.

The book is formatted in 6 geographical zones providing addresses, websites, telephone numbers, directions, admissions and descriptions to save you lots of time. It's a wonderful resource to make short vacation plans or to get to know your hometown area better. You will probably find there are at least 50 things to do within an hour of your home! Best of all, if you have a limited budget, the book has found lots of places to visit for little or no charge and a bonus chapter of inexpensive seasonal and special events.

Complete with addresses, numbers and web sites... so you can find out more before you travel. I'm sure we will enjoy this book for years to come! Thanks to the authors! A GREAT SCRAPBOOK / TRAVEL JOURNAL FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!
After a family explores fun places (on weeklong vacations or maybe just lots of little day trips) . . . what's the best thing to do with all those brochures, postcards, photos and thoughtful memories? George and Michele Zavatsky, authors of the best-selling "KIDS LOVE" travel series, think they the simple answer. They were inspired by fellow travelers to design "KIDS LOVE TRAVEL MEMORIES! - A Family's Keepsake Book for Scrapbooking all the Fun Places You've Visited!" But, why this book . . .and what's so unique about it? The Zavatsky's, as a family, are thankful to be called "the family that goes on vacation for a living". Over the years, they have spent thousands of hours traveling to and writing about kid-friendly places to visit. While promoting their books, they met thousands of people who have the same great thrill . . . planning the next big adventure, watching the eyes of the kids, and talking about all the fun times. They encouraged a travel journal and scrapbook to remember those great times, but had many questions about how to assemble these journeys into a quick and easy format. Generally, just one family member (usually Mom!) was assigned the task of endless, time-consuming scrapbooking. A simple solution: Compile the best of the best . . . thoughts to remember, ways to remember them, and artwork and graphics that trigger the memories of the special places in a family's history book. If you can imagine, each family member is able to simply categorize their travel memories. Kids can color pictures and paste photos while parents and older siblings easily answer travel questions on the journal pages. A sampling of what you'll find in each chapter: Amusements: Been sliding down a coaster? Visited a prehistoric forest or hung out in the Old West? This place was voted the biggest "tourist trap" and we sure fell in . . . Animals & Farms: Are there really nice snakes or pampered fish? Do buffalo still roam? Do wolves still howl at the moon? Which dairy farm makes the best ice cream? History: Skipped stones near the homes of Washington, Boone, or famous Native Americans? Seen where government convenes? Would you enjoy pioneer daily chores? Museums: Visited museums on wars, music or modes of transportation? The all out best Children's Museum we found was? A place you pretended to be a jockey, a pilot, a heart, a captain or a miner. Outdoor Exploring: The best "fish story" we heard. Climbed up a real lighthouse or hiked across giant bridges recently? Heard the roar of wonderful waterfalls or the gentle drips of stalactites, or the echo-o-o of a canyon? Seasonal & Special Events: Eat your way through apple, cherry, berry, ice cream, maple and popcorn festivals. Festivals of Lights, train rides with Santa, fireworks shows, pumpkin patches or Easter egg hunts. Our favorite seasonal festival and what we liked.. Sports: Ever pretended you're running out of a virtual locker room in many Hall of Fames? The best way we've tried to get a sport's stars autograph was ... The Arts: Have you discovered unique things that can be called "art". The curtains up! Concerts & plays we saw and loved ... Theme Restaurants: Some new foods the kids tried. Have you tasted foods like burgoo, hobos, gorilla grilled cheese or hot browns? Ever eaten in a old schoolhouse, a train depot, a log cabin, a riverboat, a firehouse, or a 50's diner? Tours: Seen how castles or toys are made? Watched food factories make candy, cheese, ice cream, and snack foods? We got our favorite free souvenir at ... KIDS LOVE TRAVEL MEMORIES! can be a fun book to use on your journeys or to assemble in the off-season as a family around the kitchen table. What becomes of each scrapbook is what everyone contributes. It is a special family creation that becomes your book to be proudly displayed on any coffee table, in any family's home. The Zavatsky's say their ultimate mission statement is "...that your children will develop a love and passion for quality family travel experiences that they can pass on to another generation of family travelers." They add, "many times, some of our fondest memories were not made at an expensive attraction, but rather when it was least expected". Now you have a way of simply keepsaking all those special times!

Great book for babies and young kids!
I love this book! The illustrations are wonderful and realistic; the plot is simple but fun. As the kitten looks for a home, a host of different environments are visited, though none is appropriate until the end. Rest assured, this little kitten finds a happy ending! I have been reading this story to a 5-month-old, and already he enjoys it. He likes to reach for the flaps and try to work them himself. I can tell he will enjoy this one for years to come, if for nothing more than the pictures. (Growing up in a cat-filled house, he already loves kitties!)
