The Key to all Modern Cooking!
I have used this cookbook for more than a decade, and I consistently return to this book by Urvater and Liederman for the best of clean, elegant and richly satisfying recipes. The recipes include very simple and easy meals with little preparation, as well as complex, highly detailed concoctions, all of which are beautiful and tremendously gratifying. The detailed descriptions for making stocks and glaces come first, as they form the basis of many of the sauces in their recipes to follow. Time-consuming but easy, these stocks provide a richness and depth to their cuisine found mostly in elegant restaurants, without relying on excessive butter, cream or cheeses. Most important, the recipes are painstakingly edited. I have never had a recipe fail for me, as long as I followed the directions. I keep this book on the same shelf as Julia Child, The Joy of Cooking, and The Splendid Table as the cornerstones of my cooking library.

Romance on the range . . .
Kenzie Sullivan never dreamed she'd be spending the summer of the Lucky R Ranch instead of hanging out with her friends at the country club pool. But in order to keep her beloved horse, Kenzie must work at the ranch to pay for his board.

When fellow ranch hand Steve Calvert bets Kenzie that she won't last more than a week, she doesn't hesitate to take the bet. Though Steve's attitude drives her crazy, Kenzie is determined to show him that she's a capable cowgirl. But soon she finds herself falling in love with her rival. Can a country club girl ever win a stubborn cowboy's heart.

***Excerpt***

There was something very appealing about Steve Calvert, Kenzie thought as he draped an arm around her shoulders and led her into the barn. Once inside, Steve stood still. There was something in the way he looked at Kenzie that made her catch her breath. And then he kissed her.

That unexpected kiss sent sweet chills through her. She responded instantly, thrilled by the touch of his soft lips on hers.

The next thing she knew, Steve was pulling away as though she'd bitten him. "Sorry," he muttered. "That won't happen again." Abruptly he started walking down the aisle between the stalls, pointing out the horses that needed to be saddled.

Kenzie stared after him. Why was he acting like they'd done something wrong? She wasn't at all sorry they'd kissed. But what if Steve hadn't liked kissing her?

cradle will fall
this is an honest book about one woman's battle with postpartum depression. i commend her honesty and want to thank you for sharing her story with the world. i, too, suffer from a severe postpartum depression, with psychotic features. this has been the hardest and most difficult time of my life. alot of the feelings that michelle had experienced were right on. many people do not understand the extent that this problem brings about. it is probably the most underdiagnosed problem in the medical field. motherhood is not always a joyous time, even though we all have perfect visions of it in our minds. this woman was very courageous for sharing her story. i am sure that she will never forgive herself for what she did, she will probably only gain strength from survivng day to day. thank you for sharing your story. you have certainly brought awareness to such a tragic medical problem.

Make art in your scrapbooks...
Part of the fun of creating scrapbooks is the paper crafting aspect of the art. While cropping pictures adds form to your pages, it's the embellishments that make the pages pop. Some like to go crazy and some take the simple approach - and that's exactly what you can do with paper crafting.

You can go with the basic paper chains, tearing, and collage to more challenging weaving, quilling, and kirigami (Japanese paper cutting.) The instructions are all laid out here in an easy-to-follow format that will have you making paper masterpieces in no time at all! Some other techniques included are: pull-apart designs, cutting details into layered designs, louvers, bargellos, irises, pleats, and paper tole.

Whether a beginner or a more advanced crafter, you'll have no problem finding a technique to meet your needs - have fun!

Dental Hygiene -- Theory and Practice
Published in Hardcover by W B Saunders Co (09 July, 2003)
Author: Michele Leonardi Darby
Amazon base price: $69.95
Average review score:

The standard for dental hygiene professional care.
When the textbook came out, it was considered quite advanced in the concepts concerning dental hygiene diagnosis, treatment plans, and care. Now that these concepts are finally being considered mainstream, the textbook still delivers the information needed for not only basic dental hygiene care, but restorative and pain control care. I hope that the next edition covers more in the area of ultrasonics and the latest in periodontal disease technology in diagnosis and care. Knowing the level of excellence in this textbook, I am sure it will be included.

A top notch collection on an important subject.
Anyone who has studied the history of slavery in the US must recognize that the issue of sex and race is a critical sub-text. Clinton and Glillespie's collection of essays provides a variety of well-thought-out perspectives on the issue. Scholars will find the work thought-provoking and a valuable addition to readings for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses.

Dia
Published in Paperback by Auckland University Press (1995)
Author: Michele J. Leggott
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

luxurious poetry wrapping bodies and words in honey sounds
The New Zealnd poet, Michele Leggott builds "on the fabulous slopes of ellipsis" a space for readers to explore the interaction between words and perception. Latinate words swim alongside simple accumulations of single vowel sounds. See in particular "Micromelismata", a wonderous poem laid out mirror-like on two pages like the traces of two kisses. At first glance it is immediate concrete visual poetry. On examining the details, it's a sublte sound poem. Few writers can please both eye and ear with such grace. Even fewer create such involutive chambers as with lines like "catspaw on the meniscus". To be savoured and reread.
