Outstanding, a breakthrough in historical journalism
This is an absolute must-read for everyone with an appreciation for landmark speeches placed in the right historical perspective. Ms. Nix's selection and insight is a credit to a new field that merits further exploration. Bravo!!

Bravo!!
It's about time someone pulled together a compendium of this sort. Ms. Nix's wide-ranging collection of influential speeches heard 'round the world advances the cause of women far more than Gloria Steinem could ever hope to.

The content is well-rounded, focused, and brilliantly thought-out. This is a must-read for anyone who appreciates the spoken word.

Shapers of History
Finally! An anthology that acknowledges women as the movers and shapers of history that they were, and continue to be, rather than simply being appendages of the men with whom they are associated. Michele Nix has given us page after page of inspirational oratory by courageous women who stood their ground even when such action exposed them to ridicule and great personal harm. These are timeless speeches by timeless women that continue to be relevant. This book should be required reading in class rooms across the country. It will also become a personal favorite for all those who respect the unsung contributions that women have made throughout history.

It Will Change Your Life
It's true.
Last year I took one of Ms. Weldon's "Writing To Save Your Life" workshops. Her workshop appeared in my life at a time when I knew I needed to give voice to my life experiences, but I didn't know how or where to start. And I was scared. As a writer of romance novels, I've always invented stories and been in control of a paper world. I knew it was time to write something for me, about me, but I was paralyzed with fear.

With Ms.Weldon's guidance, something broke inside of me and I started writing and writing, and during the journey I met someone I thought I had lost -- me.

Michele Weldon's workshop was a gift. I'm thrilled that her workshop is in book form to guide people everywhere! Her wit, honesty, and down-to-earth sensibilities come shining through in every chapter.

Ms. Weldon showed me that exploring and giving voice to my story, my emotional truths, was an act of power and courage. She is the guide-friend you've been waiting for.

It's A Keeper
Michele Weldon makes you want to write. With funny anecdotes, touching personal stories, and practical advice, the author jump starts stalled writers. The message she communicates is one everyone should hear: Your own life is worth preserving in words. I did my fair share of life-saving writing when my children were small and now regale them, as teenagers, with readings about our lives in those days. Michele Weldon's book is a delightful reminder to me that it's time to get back to preserving memories on paper.

Honest and compelling
I've read Michele Weldon's previous work, and I've heard her speak, so I ordered this book as soon as I heard about it, long before the actual publication date. When it came, I wasn't disappointed. Here's a book that speaks honestly about writing and what it can mean in our lives.

This book works on so many levels. Even the title is layered. When I first read that phrase, "Writing to Save Your Life," I thought it referred to Ms. Weldon's own heroic struggle to survive her abusive marriage. But as I read through the book, I realized that we all can write to save -- to preserve -- our lives. When I write in a journal, I'm creating a private historical document. I'm saving my life as I experienced it, even if no one ever reads it but me.

Ms. Weldon performs an incredible feat by making the act of writing seem so, well, do-able. She makes writing sound as natural as breathing -- and I suspect, for her at least, it is. Her own writing style is so clean and unfussy and fun, you can almost imagine her just talking her essays into a tape recorder as she drives her kids from soccer to piano lessons. But then, as you read and reread a piece like "A Cushioned Life," you start to see the quiet depths of meaning that she deftly weaves into her stories.

As a would-be novelist myself, I was inspired by Ms. Weldon's advice on the writing process. I've read a lot of other books on writing, and sometimes the advice seems rather condescending: "Here, little woman. Although you'll never be as gifted or witty or perceptive as I am, I will give you this opportunity to plunk down your (money) so that you can be awed by my astonishing cleverness." But when Ms. Weldon writes about writing, she makes it seem like a true craft -- a skill you can learn and improve and enjoy, especially when you're working under the patient and encouraging supervision of a master craftswoman.

Read this book if you want to write -- or if you just want to read. I found my own life captured in these pages, and I believe you will, too.

Yes, Yes and Yes. Prince is just that.
If Frank Lloyd Wright is King, than indeed Bart Prince is Prince. The photographs in the book are brilliant and Christopher Mead's Commentary is awesome and highly informative as well. Showing a lot into Bart Prince the man himself. I hope one day to own a Bart Prince Home.

Mead's writing/subject is enlightening, learned, enjoyable
A book as interesting as the funky forms it analizes. I have had the honour of both reading this book and attending Professor Mead's architecture retrospective class series. The book is filled with an incledibly informed, and informative text which is supported with excellent photos and diagrams. I highly reccomend this book for students of architecture, or just for an interesting read, and if you find yourself in the area of the University Of New Mexico, I highly suggest you do yourself the favour of sitting in on one of Professor Mead's lectures

Bart Prince
This is a beautiful book, not only on the architecture of Bart Prince, but about Bart Prince himself. It is an excellent book, one of the few in which you can find information on him. It is very detailed. It is usually very hard to find such detailed information about modern architects who are still alive. The written as well as the visual parts are very well done. The photographs are excellent, including images of plans, sections, and elevations. Usually all that is out there on Bart Prince is just concentrated on the Price House , the Prince Residence and his own home, but on this book you will find much more than that. Here, everything is included, his life, his architecture, and his origins.

Baby Philosophers
This book is adorable and very clever. It would make a great baby shower gift. It's the uncanny way the that the photos seem to illustrate the quotes that make it so charming.

Babies, Babies, Babies
Ms. Michele has captured a goodly number of expressive baby portraits and matched them with appropriate quotations from ancient and modern sources. The babies seem to crawl off the page with spontaneity. No digital manipulation was used here - just honest old light and timing. For the baby lovers out there - W.C. Fields can stay home!

Wonderful pictures - makes a great gift
I don't know how the photographer managed to get all of the pictures in this book - the variety of expressions and personalities is truly amazing. The famous quotes perfectly match the humorous pictures. This book is a great for a new parent or a parent-to-be.

An Awesome Must Read!
At first glance, the title may seem manipulative, but really, when you are trying to change a situation, aren't you doing just that? Stop the nagging, threats and poor results from those efforts, life is too short. Stop wasting your time. Michele does a super job of keeping every word interesting and understandable - for the masses! I am ordering a few of her other books as well, since I like her approach and writing style so much. It's not all about changing others, it's about changing you too and the way you think. You won't be sorry.

You Really Can Change Your Life!
Making small changes in the way you do things really can affect the way the people in your life view you and act toward you. I loved Weiner-Davis' fresh approach to the problem of dealing with life's problems. For anybody who feels like their life is a constant reliving of the same old arguments with spouses and kids or in their day-to-day routine, here's real hope that you can make effective changes. For the first time in years, I'm feeling much more in control of my life!

Good Solution-oriented Help
This book is a real winner. Michelle lays out practical solution oriented help that focuses on what is working in your life and how to build on it. She is particularly insightful in relationship dynamics. Though this is by no means a Christian book, many of her principles are very biblical and extremely helpful.

Color and Shapes?Los Colores Y Las Figuras
I want to continue learning the Spanish language and found that this children's book helped me and my family alot. I was intimidated by the language, and by starting at this basic level, it opened a new door for me to want to build upon and continue to learn more. By getting down the fundamentals, I am able to go on to more things. My kids are constantly speaking the words out loud and are actually teaching each other and myself Spanish. I am glad that there are books out there like this that I can use, no matter how young the age group, and actually learn.

Great foundations book
I recently became interested in toddler and primary age children's books because I am a grandmother. Looking for starter books, it was great to discover this title, and the companion English-Spanish Foundations co-volumes. My grandkids enjoyed the color and layout and definitely learned!

Colors and Shapes
Several members of my family have small children who are just learning to read. I was looking for an english/spanish book that would be fun for them to go through, but would also present information in an easy and understandable way for them. This book was just what I was looking for. If anyone is looking for a great educational gift for little kids be sure to take a look at this!

This is a must reference book for any doll collector.
Of all my years of collecting dolls, I've never seen such a complete and informative book. Most impressive are the clear color pictures and the interesting discussion of the Cameo doll company. I.m very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to novice as well as experienced doll collectors.

The bible on composition & wood dolls and toys!
An extremely resourceful book. Deep histories and information on composition & wood dolls, plus an extensive photo gallery of many rare dolls. A must have for any collector in their right mind!

The best book on the subject I have ever seen!
Most books like this only show pictures with prices. Michele's book gives me more information, background and a true understanding about the dolls, there origins, and the true history. Besides, it's a fun book to read with great photos. I'm glad I found it.

My favorite living poet
I believe I've found one of the truly great living poets. When this book came out, I was floored by how packed the language is, how the lines yield more meaning and poignancy with each new reading, until, at the fifth or sixth reading, there's this big smile on your face and your eyes are a bit wet. I've recently been reading Shakespeare's sonnets, and there is a similar satisfaction after reading one of Wolf's poems. It's not just intellectually satisfying, but there's a distinct emotional core to each piece. I've also been tutoring my nephew, and this book really turns him on. I exposed him first to the unexpectedly spare poem, "Man in a Picture Frame," and he really got it. Next, I read him the complex poem, "Astigmatism," and he said, "Huh?" Hey, he's 15 years old! But upon explication, we discovered levels under levels between levels beyond levels, and they all lead to the heart. If only I could meet this beautiful poet. Are you listening, Ms. Wolf?!

A book to be read again and again
I've owned this book for a while, and every time I return to it, I find unabashed emotional truth and unshakable strength. Nothing is too grand or too frightening for Wolf to tackle. Family, arguably the most overexploited topic in all of literature, gets its unapologetic due here. I look forward to more.

Contemporary poetry at its best
These are finely crafted poems emerging from a distinct and vital new American voice in poetry. They are both personally moving and philosophically profound. They stem from real life situations without seeming prosaic. They have the emotion of fine literary fiction with the honed compression of skilled metaphor. Michele Wolf is definitely an up-and-coming star in the poetry establishment.
