Great. Very educational.
This book is terrific for learning how to deal with high risk situations involving obstetrics. AWHONN is a state of the art nursing association and this book is a tremendous help to those who want to further their knowledge on high risk maternity care. I would recommend anyone who is a Labor & Delivery nurse or in the obstetric field to read it.

A Wonderful Book
I Dreamed I Had a Girl in My Pocket is one of the best non-fiction works that I have picked up in recent memory. It was so wonderful it made me cry at its beauty.
Ms. Ewald traveled to India to a remote village where foreigners are few and far between. There, she took photos of the children of the village, many of whom are either untouchables or close to it, and illustrated their pictures with stories and anecdotes.
What I was struck most by was the way in which the children learned photography and took their own pictures (included) and the dignity it brought to their lives. It saddened me to read some of the essays and learn about the vioelnce and loss that these young people have faced and hope that through Ms. Ewald's tutelage, that some, or at least one, will be able to break the cycle of poverty that they are in.
I am quite sure that every child she met will never forget her kindness and attention. She also includes her photos of the area, but it is the direct images with the children that are haunting my heart.

Journey to Outermost House

Journey To The Outermost House
This book is simply enchanting! Nan Turner Waldron stayed at the outermost house for 16 years before writing this book. The book tells the story of naturalist Henry Beston and how he built the "Fo'c'sle" (as it was nick named) on the great beach of Cape Cod. The magic of the area worked it's spell on her and a quote form the book best sums it up, "I believe that being close to the natural environment inspires a quest, perhaps inherent in Man, to understand human nature." The blizzard of 1978 took the little house out to sea but luckily for us Ms. Waldron's book will allow it to live on. I was so moved by the book that I actually purchased the blueprints (order form found in the back)! This book is a must read!

The Least-Squares Finite Element Method: Theory and Applications in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Electromagnetics (Scientific Computation)
Published in Hardcover by Springer Verlag (1998)
Author: Bo-Nan Jiang
Amazon base price: $120.00
Average review score:

This is an important book !
Why so? It draws attention to the use of the least-squares method for the solution of problems in fluid mechanics and electromagnetics. This method promises a remarkable simplification in the use of the finite element method in these fields as well as a unification with other fields such as structural analysis. Regardless of your prior experience with cfm or cem, this approach should be tried before you settle on any given approach.

Lianda: A Chinese University in War and Revolution
Published in Hardcover by Stanford Univ Pr (1999)
Author: John Israel
Amazon base price: $65.00
Used price: $22.98
Average review score:

Best book about a Chinese university
John Israel has done an incredible job in collecting materials about this university. It's especially impressive because the university was formed during the Anti-Japanese war, a lot of original materials were destroyed. He gives a detailed, analytical description of the National Southwest Associated University which is unique in human history. He also introduces the reader to the best professors available in China during this time and the patriotism of the students. As a professional historian, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Chinese higher-education.

A Good Resource For Memoir Writers
I was impressed with this book because it doesn't just tell how to write a memoir. It helps its readers to explore themselves in such a way their writing gains more depth. It is full of exercises that can increase the vitality and impact of one's personal writing, and can help one's writing become more vivid and descriptive.

A Powerful Start for Mentoring Youth
No other book provides the passion and power for establishing mentoring connections for youth as this book. While not exactly a how-to-do-it book, it provides enough details about the "why" of mentoring and disinguishes clearly between mentoring that has value for youth versus other types of well-meaning approaches. Chapters are included by the most well-known leaders in the youth mentoring field, including Marc Freedman and Bonnie Benard, that are not only informative and inspiring, but can can easily yield guidance for anyone associated with mentoring youth. All the authors agree that the power of mentoring is not in the "program," but in the relationship.
