Surviving the Thriller
This book is a thriller because there is suspense since it is hard to survive in a place full of alligators and snakes. This is the best Survival book of the series and it has one hilarious part: Phillip getting attacked by the "stick snake". This is Simon signing out.

Lost in the bayous in 1850s.
This is the story of a wealthy twelve-year-old boy lost in the bayous of Louisiana in the 1850s and the poor Cajun girl who attempts to rescue him. It was a very exciting story filled with historical details. I also really liked the character of Lily. She was a very strong, determined girl who didn't let her handicap stand in her way!

A must-read for all forced to make a difficult choice.......
I wish our geneticist would have had copies of this book ready to hand out (along with the medical information about our baby's chromosomal abnormality). It would have been a HUGE help to have read this BEFORE interrupting our pregnancy (We learned of this book the week after losing our baby). This reaffirms our choice...we (as THOUSANDS of other parents) chose the route we did out of the utmost love for our unborn son.

The book has stories shared by others who have 'walked a mile in my shoes'; however, most of them went through the L&D process (the main method at the time this book was written). It doesn't mention much about D&E (except for a short section).

If you find yourselves or someone that you love in this heart-wrenching situation, by all means read this book!!!

A wonderful, non-judgemental book
I bought this book after my husband and I lost our first and only child to anencephaly. I looked for ages to find a book which specifically addressed the emotional pain that parents who chose to terminate a fatally ill child have, and had no luck. Then I came across this book and it was a godsend. The book takes into account the very personal and gut wrenching decisions that parents must make, and talks about them in compassionate and empathetic ways. I would HIGHLY reccomend this book to any parent facing the loss of a much loved and wanted, yet fatally ill child.

A necessary book for anyone in this situation
I got this book after we made our decision, but I would recommend it to anyone who is making a prenatal decision or who is dealing with their decision. Well written, empathetic, a book any parent in this situation can relate to.

OH MY GOSH...this book was soooo good. i started off reading it from language arts, cuz we had to pick a book about the holocoust, but i couldnt put it down when i started it. i was blown away by the detail and something true, like this, could hold my attention. i found my self at the end of the book wishing there was a sequel!!

In Paperback!
I've had the opportunity to read the book, and meet Michael Korenblit! A great man, a great story. His respect diversity organization based out of Oklahoma City sells the book from a different publisher. The Respect Diversity Foundation webpage is the place to check into this or get in touch with the author.

Unusally Interesting

Wanderers eastward, wanderers west

Excellent!
Wow! This was such a great book. It may be hard to find, but it is so worth it. I bought it after reading FOREVER AMBER also by Kathleen Winsor. I loved FOREVER AMBER so much that I wanted to read all of her other books. This was the first one I read.

It is very different than FOREVER AMBER in that it follows several people through their lives rather than one. Having read three of Kathleen Winsor's novels so far she doesn't appear to be an author that follows a formula. One thing that she is good at, though, is that she shows the intricacies of human emotions. Sure someone might be in love with someone, but sometimes love borders on a fine line with hate, as do other emotions. She creates very complex characters.

This book is very in depth about the human psyche. It follows the lives of several people for about 20 years. It takes place during the second half of the 19th century in Montana and New York City. I learned so much about this time period as well as what life was like "out west". She has great historical details. It is a bit slow at times, but you still can't put it down. This is not a book that ends happily ever after, or that ties everything up in the end. It is as real as real life. The characters are multi-faceted with multitudes of various feelings. I just cannot describe how good this book is. It's been about a year since I read it and I still think about often. Excellent!

Great Read!!!
I found this book to be one of the best books I have ever read. It is extremely long and sometimes a bit slow, but overall a great piece of writing. Winsor is a good novelist and it is obvious that she spent years researching history to accomplish such a mammoth novel. It is available through Amazon's rare and used book site.

Wanderers eastward wanderers west
I found this book in grandma's basement and thought " hey it'll keep me busy for a while" It was suprisingly good. The storylines move at just the right pace, and the unexpected happens, just as the expected never occurs. Good book - a must read, especially for collectors

We Laughed, We Cried: Life With Fibromyalgia

I'm not alone!
This is the best book on Fibromyalgia to make a connection rather than diagnosis and treatment, which for me has been the best treatment thus far! It is so full of hope and life and realism from people like me with Fibromyalgia. It helps to know I'm not the only one in this world with a frustrating invisible illness. I especially like the poetry and am grateful to the authors for compiling and publishing this much needed and very refreshing book on something that is usually vaguely written about by people without the true knowledge of what this illness really feels like. Thank you so much, and I am sure that a series of books like this could be accomplished and I would buy every one!

We Laughed, We Cried: Life with Fibromyalgia
I purchased this book a few months ago and read it the same day. I laid it down on my desk, with no particular feelings.
I picked it up again today, to possibly sell it, and I could not quit reading. I found so much comfort in the words of those who, like me, are trying to find some kind of acceptance of Fibromyalgia, while still at times dealing with the anger of "a life drastically changed."
I was amazed that between the first reading and today, my perspective of this book is so different. I cannot even begin to think of being without it now, I absolutely related to the stories, thoughts, and poems more now than ever. I was looking for a miracle the first time and was in denial of this monster disease. Now, in rereading it, I totally understand the feelings and situations of everything that was written by the different people. It explains me and all of us...completely and thoroughly!!
The humor is refreshing also, brain fog can make for some very releasing laughter, in this book and in our "daily living" with Fibromyalgia. Above all, we need to learn acceptance. Sometimes you just want to cry.....but you need to laugh!! It is comforting to know we are not alone and to see our thoughts exactly... written down on paper by someone else. We all feel the same!!
Great Book!!

Wonderful !
What a great book!I recomend it to everyone with fibromyalgia and the people who care about them. A collection of personal experiences of living with this very misunderstood invisible illness.A gathering of poems, art, cartoons and stories of what life is like for someone stricken with this life altering illness.

What About Heaven? (Little Blessings)

Inquisitive About Heaven?
For little ones inquisitive about Heaven, "What About Heaven?" is a great place to begin to answer the question.

Kathleen Bostrom and Elena Kucharik team up to put Heaven in terms and pictures a child will relate to. They keep it simple, but never water it down.

Wonderful watercolors by Kucharik frame the charming outline what Heaven really is all about. It'll be more than sleepy bedtime reading as you'll hear your kids beg to hear it again, as they dream.

I fully recommend "What About Heaven?" by Kathleen Bostrom.

...

Well Done
I applaude the author and her desire to keep this a faith based book. I have been disappointed in other books by well known authors who didn't teach the truth about heaven they just made up feel good scenarios. I think a child can be most comforted with the facts, they are more glorious than anything we could make up. The book is beautifully done.
I try to keep an eye out for Christian grief material for children and adults because I teach grief classes. I do recommend this book and a video I...
I wish the best to this author and thank her for her work. I know her book will help families and especially children who are grieving.

What About Heaven
This is a comforting book for all ages; I am a 46-year-old grandmother. My grandchildren lost their great-grandmother (my Mother died August 4, 2000). My daughter purchased this book from the Christian bookstore in our town because my 3 1/2 year old grandson is having a very difficult time over the loss of his Nanny. This book immediately comforted my 6-year-old granddaughter. I read the book to them and noted the 3 1/2 year old seemed less angry about the Heaven deal and less resistant to any reference of Heaven. The book helped him in that he began asking, "Where is Nanny?" He had not asked about her at all. He is still slowly coming out with his feelings. When asked what he was getting for Christmas, he replied," I need to go to Heaven and check on Nanny." This may seem like a strange comment, it is not. It shows how much she is still on his mind after 4 1/2 months and that before reading the book to him he didn't know what to say to get his feelings out. Hopefully reading the book to him again will help him realize he can't go there now, he will have to wait. I AM SO THANKFUL FOR THIS BOOK. I cry every time I read this little book. It is such a simple comfort, so plain and explains all I have ever believed about Jesus, death, dying and heaven along with scripture references to back up my beliefs. I read excerpts from the book to introduce it to a hospice support group I attended for coping with loss during the holidays. They raved about the book. I purchased Maria Shriver's book "What's Heaven?". I rate her book a "1" compared to the "5" I gave "What about Heaven?" and would have in fact given it a "10".

Absolutely heavenly
Set in Washington Territory in the late 1800s. Jackson Tate is shot dead, in a saloon bar in Pine Ridge, after discovering and accusing a gambler at his table of cheating at cards. The ghost of Jackson finds himself stuck in the saloon bar neither ascending to heaven nor descending to "the other place". Looks like he's checked into the saloon bar for an unspecified period with no hope of leaving, until Lesley, a celestial messenger arrives and sets him the task of rescuing a ten year old kid called Rachel Morgan, which may just earn him the right to leave the saloon. The rescuing part was easy, however, Jackson forgot one minor detail - to erase her memory of his existence. Fifteen years later, he is sent back to Stillwater to correct his wrong. Rachel, now a grown woman, has not forgotten her "Mister Angel" who gallantly saved her so many years ago. Torn between duty and their growing love for one another will Rachel and her "angel" make the ultimate sacrifice?

Oh such a wonderful book! I sat up until 3.30am, crying my eyes out towards the end. This is my first book by Kathleen Kane and I am so glad that I bought it after reading another Amazon reviewer's comments. The hero is not perfect, in fact, he is riddled with faults but that's what makes him so endearing. The heroine is no fragile flower but will follow blindly where her heart leads her. A story of doomed love, told with much humor and tenderness. You will not be disappointed!

Lealing

The book that hooked me in!
This book is awesome.. the first one of Kathleen Kanes which has made me an advid reader of her other books. I even referred my family and friends to read this book, and they too agreed with my feelings towards Still Close to Heaven! FYI for the reader who was unsure who lesley was in the book.. He was kinda like the one in charge of the actions Tate did. He gave him the direction of his other assignments. So when Tate started falling for the damsel Rachel... Tate had to prosuade Lesley to let him stay with Rachel. Hope I was some help! :)

A ghost who has a ghost of a chance to redeem himself
Kathleen Kane has done a wonderful job writing this story. The only element that confused me was the character of Lesley. I never quite figured out who he was and how he fit into the heavenly situation that brought Tate into the "neither heaven nor hell" dilemma. This minor confusion didn't matter enough to cause me to dislike the book at all. It's a wonderful read. I despaired that Rachel and Tate would ever get to be together near the end, but I should have known that Kathleen's skillful suspense was destined for a happy resolution. Good going, Kathleen!

I particularly love ghost stories, so I hung on every passage, enjoying the ride and the read.

Kathleen's characters always become people you'd love to meet-even the dandified Lesley. I have a few questions for him. Lee Emory

The Book Caved In
I recommend this book to any one who likes to read and have a cliffhanger at the end of a chapter or two. Also, anyone who likes historical fiction would like this book. One example is when the Coal mine collapsed in Pennsylvania in 1859. Also, I recommend this book to any one who used to work in the mines because it is very realistic. The main character, Liam, said, "You should never light a match in a mine because the coal dust is very flammable." Also, I recommend it for anyone who thinks that girls can't work in the mine, because they can do the same amount of work that the men do only they do it more efficiently. Liam said "he saw a little bit of mischief in Rory's eyes." Rory is a girl who subbed for Paddy, Liam's brother. I learned that the mine could be a dangerous place to work, not because it could cave in, but rather that your boss might abuse you, such as hitting you with a broomstick.

A girl must overcome her fears if she is to survive.
Rory Hamilton hates the mines that took her father and brother away from her, never to return. Now she and her mother make ends meet by running a boardinghouse for miners. Rory is friends with a boy her age named Liam Quinn who, along with his younger brother, Paddy, and widowed father, works in the mines saving money for his sisters to come to America from Ireland. One day Liam's brother gets sick and is in danger of losing his job if he stays home. Even though she is terribly afraid of going in the mine, Rory disguises herself as a boy so she can take Paddy's place until he is better. Rory picks the worst possible day to enter the mine, since it's the day of a terrible cave in that traps Rory and Liam underground. If she is to survive, Rory must face her worst fears. A great survival/adventure story set against a historical background.

UNDERGROUND ADVENTURE
This is a great adventure story with non-stop action. Being trapped in a cave is for some their worst nightmare. This is as close as most will ever want to be to going into a cave. For more underground adventure stories don't miss Steward's, "Tales of Dirt, Danger, and Darkness."

Relevant for today's Married Woman
This book is full of valuable lessons. Even if you're a newlywed or not married yet, it shows you what can happen when couples don't communicate. The lessons learned from Juliet & Michaels experiences may help some couples to work through difficult times- other couples may learn how to PREVENT some of the problems outlined in this great novel. God has really given Mrs. Scott a gift- she is able to tell a tale that most people can relate to, and she illustrates it such a way that you truly feel the emotions the characters are feeling. I highly recommend this novel!

This is a great book!!
This is the first book I've read about how a wife feels when her husband loses interest in their love life. For any wife who feels that she is trying to keep the romance in her marriage alive on her own, this is a book you'll want to buy. One of the reasons this was such a good story is because Kathleen Scott describes this really depressing marriage that I think many couples will relate to, but then she shows how the husband and wife found ways to make things better again. It was really encouraging to me. Buy this book, you'll be glad you did!

It's Still on My Heart
The characters in this story seem so real that I'm still thinking about them weeks after I finished reading the book. I think anyone who is married will relate to Juliet's and Michael's problems. There are lessons to be learned in this story that I didn't see until I was almost finished reading it.

While I was crying with and relating to Juliet, I was learning something important that I think will make my marriage better. I recommend this book to anyone who has had their heart broken from being in love.

Just back from my trip
Watch out when booking a tour! You're a captive to your boat, your crew, your mates--most of the time on tours is spent en masse, so know before you go. This guide was of great help in selecting a tour, even after hours of internet research. We packed as told, and were glad to have the extra towels, bags, etc. The photography tips weren't relevant to us, but they are equally extensive. He's right--get your guide up early in the morning for optimum viewing. Recommended.

The best single book about your Galapagos trip
Written by the owner of the tour company we decided to go with, I had ordered of copy of this from an Internet bookstore, only to find that we were to receive a free copy with our trip deposit. The extra went to Jill's mom, who travels vicariously with us when she and Bob aren't gallivanting about on their own. If you can only get one book for your trip to the Galapagos, this is the most comprehensive, covering booking a tour; the history, geology, botany, zoology of the islands; and photographing flora, fauna and landscape, all written in a light, humorous style. Other guide books go into farther detail on some items, but this is the best one stop shop.

THE guidebook for those considering going...
The first time I saw this book, I viewed it with a jaundiced eye- after all, Barry is the owner-operator of a travel agency specializing in travel to the Galápagos Islands! Glad I took the time to read it- I've bought every edition since the first!

Barry's book is objective, comprehensive and as up to date as a printed guide can be given that boats are launched and agencies change hands, and includes detailed information on the tour operators, their specializations (e.g. birding, diving, etc.) and even the individual boats. (This is especially valuable- there is no US Coast Guard to assure marine safety in Ecuadórian waters, and the boat you spend a week or more on can make or break the trip- or even you, as more than one boat has sunk or burned.) The book reveals why you can not do the Galápagos justice with a land-based trip, nor in most cases (depending on your trip goals) with a large cruise ship.

You will learn when to go, how to save money to the extent possible, which operators respect the fragile island environment, which ones have university-trained naturalist-guides, which ones do a true seven day trip, vs. those who will take your money for a "seven day trip" and actually put you on a three day trip with a four day trip following (meaning you spend a lot of time in the same places you saw already, not to mention going to port to take on and discharge passengers.) Barry has a dry sense of humor- his slogan is "¡Viva la evolución!"

As someone who has been to "las Islas Encantadas", as the Galápagos islands is often described in Spanish, who is going again in 2003, I highly recommend this book to anyone contemplating traveling there as a key planning tool. I only hope Barry is planning to update his valulable book again SOON!
