She's the MANN!
Catherine Mann is so incredibly talented at characterizations that it is easy for the reader to forget her hero and heroine are fictional. In WEDDING AT WHITE SANDS, Ms. Mann seamlessly weaves a story about two entralling characters. The interactions between Jake and Allie are snappy and sexy. Jake, with his tortured past, is believable and manly. Ms. Mann has tapped into the male psyche. The story is fast-paced and suspenseful. A true page turner.

An impressive first book by an author who is sure to be a bright shining star in the sky of novelists.

Fresh Voice in Series Romance
I have read a lot of series romances over the years and this was a refreshing read. I stayed up late reading it because I just had to know what happened to these two wonderful, complex characters. Catherine Mann peels away her characters inner conflicts and motivations one satisfying layer at a time throughout the book. The chemistry between the two characters is tastefully done without losing the sexiness.

Looking forward to her next release!

My favorite of 2002!
Catherine Mann's Wedding at White Sands is a wonderful read. Filled with characters that are charismatic, lovable and sexy it's no wonder that this is my favorite book of 2002.

I feel very lucky to have discovered her and can't wait to read her upcoming Wingmen Warriors series.

So if your are craving a very satisfying book, a book that will make you laugh, cry and sigh over an enthralling plot, sizzling sexual attraction and a hero to fall in love with then make sure to run to the stores to get your copy of the highly recommended Wedding At White Sands.

Ending the Tyranny of the Mind
PASSIONATE PRESENCE is about ending the tyranny of the mind. Living in the mind instead of in the moment causes one to miss the freshness and wonder of life. We may spend hours each day chewing over our past failures, or, conversely, projecting a rosy future for ourselves. The problem with this scenario is that past and future are concepts. They exist only in the mind. PASSIONATE PRESENCE is about getting out of the mind and into the moment, into the preciousness and completeness of the moment, which, after all, is all we have. The qualities that exude from these pages--gentleness, genuineness and delight--are contagious. Catherine Ingram speaks to us from direct experience, and her experience, we realize, if we are truly attentive, is our experience.

Priceless
Many spiritual books have given me great food for thought; this one has actually brought major shifts in my perception. It has taken me a large step forward in my presence and in the way I deal with people, which was immediately noticed by my coworkers. I don't want to get too specific and spoil the effect of a fresh reading, but do get this book. It's one of my top three spiritual books, along with *The Power of Now* by Eckhart Tolle, and *Loving What Is* by Byron Katie.

A welcome relief from the usual...
One of the only books I've read on this subject that seems to come from a real, grounded, truthful place. There is no new-age dogma here, only insights that lead to a place that is already within our grasp, right now. A poetic, meaningful read that transcends any how-to technique, Catherine simply describes what we know to be true in our hearts, yet have never seen so plainly. I recommend this book to everyone....the clarity and truth of her words are very moving and profound, yet so simple.

Apollo: Race to the Moon

The best book on the engineering achivements of Apollo
It is a crying shame that this wonderful book appears to be VERY out of print. It answers all the questions any technologically curious person would have about the design of the systems, the testing, how mission control worked, what all those acronyms really mean, the geeky geniuses and tough managers that made the program succeed. it covers the surprising numbers of "glitches" that made every mission more dramatic than news reports led viewers to believe.

Could it be that author Murray followed up this gem with the controversial The Bell Curve, and the publishing establishment is reluctant to see him prosper? Or is there a less nefarious explanation?

A Comprehensive look at the technology of Apollo
A comprehensive look at the whole of the Apollo program is given in "Apollo: the Race to the Moon". As well as the flights and the astronauts, this book also looks at the technology involved - the crawler and its special roadway, the exacting requirements for the lauchpad ("Stage Zero") to stand a Saturn launch, the problems in developing the F1 engines that powered the Saturn first stage, the power and magnificence or a Saturn launch.

A terrific book on the people and technologies behind Apollo
I just met one of the principle people interviewd for this book, and he called it the best book on Apollo for "outsiders." This book lays out the challenges (man, moon, decade), problems ("combustion instability"), and solutions (duct tape!) all in an incredibly readable format.

No cute astronaut stories. This is about the engineering that made Apollo work!

A Spirit Reviving Treasure
It is amazing how God reveals divine healing power through Ms. Catherine's "Beyond Our Selves". Every time I feel down, God has used the book words to lift me - no - to let me soar up in the spirit. This treasure embraces divine healing power to emotional hurts, discouragement, confusion, depression, self-worthlessness, grieve. Truely, God's word never returns empty.

Simply Written, Straight to the Heart
This book is so simply written, and views God so simply, that the whole thing really appealed to me. The simple concepts of prayers and how to reach God, as well as how to place God in your life are really easy. The many spiritual stories and accounts are very hard to quit reading. Very excellent! Very easy to read!

A Lifesaver for Anyone in Despair
I read this book nearly 30 years ago, and it lifted me out of depression, and put me back on track as a Christian. I have been a fan of Catherine Marshall's work ever since. She wrote with such honesty about her own feelings and failures as well as her many successes, giving the praise to God always.

An intense military romance
Air Force pilot and flight surgeon Grayson "Cutter" Clark fears nothing. Even the trip to war-torn Sentavo to rescue war orphans doesn't bother him. Yet when Lori Rutledge joins his crew as the NGO operative, she nearly brings him down. Now he must rescue the children, and avoid becoming emotionally attached to the woman he left nearly a year ago.

The fates intercede, as Grayson gets another girl in his life, a young orphan named Magda. She quickly becomes a unwitting cupid between the two, and slowly Lori and Grayson begin to realize that the spark they felt over a year ago is still strong. Is this flame of passion strong enough to make their love eternal, or will the blaze die in a glorious sensual moment?

GRAYSON'S SURRENDER offers a sweet yet steamy romance, with a hero to love and cherish, and a woman brave enough to face a war zone and a child who can't speak English. The minor characters also enhance the overall plot, from the talkative and often fun-loving Bronco, to Grayson's parents who have troubles of their own.

Military romance fans will enjoy the pure intensity of the details, including a sudden decompression. The emotions flowing between the two and the pain of loss and injury strikes like a lightning bolt. It leaves one begging for another blast, a second helping of pleasure and a simple delight. Catherine Mann has begun her career in grand style, with all elements firing off without a hitch, so expect big things from her in future novels. -- Jo from Author, Author!

Fantastic new series!
Lt. Grayson Clark is fearless...except when it comes to relationships. But no relationship, no woman, ever affected him the way Lori Rutledge did. Even after a year without her, he can't shake the thought of her. And when they're sent on a mission together, all those all feelings flood back.

Lori broke her own heart a year ago when she left Gray. She doesn't know if she can live through that kind of pain again. But how can she walk away from this one last chance with him?

Catherine Mann delivers a fast-paced, touching story of rediscovery as Lori and Gray find what they were meant to have all along...love. I'm looking forward to the next book, Taking Cover, this November.

A jewell
When I taught English, I often found students becoming what "they read;" therefore I carefully selected literature designed to elevate their sense of possibilities and to illustrate characters (and authors) who had no inner compass or clarity. The same dynamic remains true for adults. If I remember this author's credentials correctly, her Master's Degree focused upon dramatic literature, particularly William Shakespeare. This classical education I find evident in the mental images she creates - Her characters actually "move" within the reader's mind with the vibrancy and speed of a Shakespearean drama. For readers who enjoy romantic fiction, I recommend this well constructed and fast paced book. It weaves not only a unique plot, but also leaves the reader with personal questions, "Am I in a box?" "When did I crawl into this box?" The writer offers, not just a glib romance story, but a more profound statement on what it takes to live "happily ever after." A "To be or not to be" questioning at the end, resolves quite nicely, but not without personal examination, a sacrifice of false pride, and a commitment to move forward. Alessandra

Materfully recreates the romance of the era
Married to the Hollybrook mayor, Emma Brandenberg has everything she could
possibly want--a lovely home, the latest fashions, and a life of social
prominence. Or does she? Secrets are tucked away and hidden behind the
public Victorian persona. Forced to abandon her college education upon
becoming Philip's wife, Emma is stifled in her gilded cage. Her only
outlet is a close circle of friends, but they have secrets of their own.

The quiet New England town is transformed when Ash's Fine Parisian
Millinery sets up for business. The hatmaker's shop, along with the
handsome proprietor, Freddie Ash, becomes the rage of the town. Formerly
bored ladies of leisure leave the hat shop with contented smiles upon
their faces. But Freddie's scandalous behavior is a diversion for the real
secret hidden beneath Victorian propriety. The ever popular mayor abuses
his wife.

During a time when there was nowhere to seek shelter, Emma turns to
Freddie in her darkest moments. Although humanly flawed, Freddie guides
Emma along the path to independence and love. GILDED is about manipulation
and spousal abuse, as well as the frightening terrors that go with it. It
is also about strength and courage, yet it subtly reminds us that
preceding the peak of the suffrage movement, brave women fought for rights
that present day women often take for granted.

Karp masterfully recreates the romance of the era through tearooms, the
first electric light bulbs, and the horseless carriage, while creating a
whirlwind plot that keeps readers guessing until the end. I highly
recommend this book to romantics and historical fiction fans.

An exciting, emotional, reaching novel
Winner of the Hollywood Discovery Award, Catherine Karp's Gilded is an superbly written and highly recommended novel set in 1890's America. Emma Brandenberg is struggling against her abusive husband Philip and a Massachusetts culture that perceives women to be subject to men and incapable of governing their own lives or make their own life-choices. The movement for women's liberation and its intersection with the fate of one woman trapped in a turbulent and unhappy marriage from the substance of an exciting, emotional, reaching novel carrying a message that is as dramatically relevant today as were the events that background the story more than 100 years ago.

Gilded
Those who begin reading "Gilded" by Catherine Karp will find themselves unable to put it down. This harrowing story of an abused woman in 1890's New England rivets the attention and moves the heart. The story centers on a hat shop offering gorgeous creations for otherwise restricted and lonley women to wear upon their heads. The ponderous hats, laden with plumes, flowers, bows and laces help to brighten loveless marriages and dreary lives. Eventually, the hats become a symbol, masterfully used by the author, of women's social and sexual emancipation.
"Gilded" is a must read for those who love the Victorian and Edwardian Eras and are concerned with the condition of women at that time.

Ok text for beginners
I am currently teaching a class using this text. I think that it is OK- but I personally would prefer Stallings or Tanenbaum. Stallings and Tanenbaum are much more engineering or technically oriented.

I have come across a number of small annoying errors in Forouzan's text, as well as a number of opinions that he puts out as facts. Of course I wouldn't be annoyed if his opinions and mine agreed - but he could at least properly identify them. This mostly is a problem with what technologies are "winners" or "losers" in the marketplace, or what dificulties are presented with trying to implement some of the protocols mentioned.

If you want to know how stuff really works go with Stallings or Tanenbaum. If you want to know how to communications is used by a business - there are a number of other texts that are far better. I feel like this text is half-way in between. Unfortunately I am unable to change what text we are using here...

Excellent entry level text
I teach a second year under-graduate (degree) course in Data Communications and Networking. This is the first networking paper that students will take. I have used Shay, Stallings and Tanenbaum in the past but have changed to Forouzan because I believe that it does an excellent job of introducing concepts at a level that is readily understood by a novice. Student feedback confirms that it is about the right level and that they feel they actually understand the text - quite a bonus ;-)

Another review recommends the above authors - and I agree they give an excellent treatment of the topic - but they require an advanced student. I would select Stallings or Tanenbaum for a paper that follows the introductory paper (we actually use Comer for the advanced paper which is specifically TCP/IP)

Forouzan's "Data Comms and Networking" is clear, plainly written - yet gives a good depth to the topics being considered. The diagrams and practice questions are excellent.

I highly recommend this book for an introductory under-graduate text.

A Seminal Text
This book is one of the great texts on the subjects covered. It has been a required text for two undergraduate and one (so far) graduate class that I have taken.

Mr. Forouzan's prose is clear and his examples understandable. The only thing that might make portions of this book a difficult read for some people is the complexity of some of the material covered. The book starts at the electrical (Manchester encoding, NRZ, etc.), and gradually builds until the networking process is clear, top to bottom. In terms of completeness, I have not seen another book that covers everything from the LAN to the WAN like this book. Also included are related topics like cellular networks, PSTN, encryption, and even the application layer of the OSI model. The complete OSI model is covered with great depth.

With Compassion
Catherine Ryan Hyde has brought you to the feeling that each author tries to achieve. Her characters have been so fully developed that you can relate in some way to all of them.

The feeling of love that Walter makes you proud to feel, is a real winner. Let yourself become one of the people and then you will become another and finally you will fill all the shoes.

This book will make you feel so wonderful, and will add to your faith in yourself.

This should be at the top of the best seller list.

A FINE READ!
Woody Allen said, "The heart wants what it wants." Catherine Ryan Hyde says it again - beautifully - in Walter's Purple Heart!

PAY IT FORWARD fans, Catherine Ryan Hyde Has Done It Again!
"Pay It Forward" fans, it's time to cheer. Catherine Ryan Hyde's latest-"Walter's Purple Heart"-is another life-affirming, emotionally rewarding read that touches the heart and satisfies the soul.

In her just-the-good-parts, spare, literary style, she spins an un-put-downable tale that pays tribute to the "Greatest Generation"-the heroes and heroines of World War II-without glorifying the violence and pain they endured.

It's a book about the eternal power of love and friendship that should appeal to all generations, but for those of us of AARP age, this book makes a very special gift.
