VAMPIRE BYTES : A CRIME NOVEL WITH CATHERINE SAYLER
Published in Hardcover by Scribner (1998)
Author: Linda Grant
Amazon base price: $22.00
Average review score:

This book is an "edge of your seat" mystery with many twists
This story is exciting and fun. Once you start to rerad it you can't put it down. Every chapter adds a new twist to the story. At first, the different chapters speak of different stories and characters, but as the story progresses all of the story lines and characters are intertwined. The plot is exciting and the language is up to date. It paints a very realistic picture of the life and times of society in the 1990's. This is a must read for any mystery enthusiast.

An incredible novel
Vampire Bytes is a truely riveting contemporary horror/mystery. The horror comes not from blood sucking ghouls, it comes from something far scarier and real - teenagers! A very fun story with a fascinating look into roleplaying (in real life as well as on a computer).

Great read that transcends genre
Computer programmer Matt Deming, a fan of LARPING (live action role playing) is murdered on the same night Chloe Dorn disappears. Private Investigator Catherine Sayler is hired by the girl's parents to find the missing teenager. Catherine is also hired by the deceased's employers who want a computer game disc and associated code book that Matt had stolen from them returned.

As Catherine investigates both cases, she soon realizes that they merge. It seems that Chloe was having sex with Matt and was with him the night he was killed. Making the investigation even more difficult for Catherine is that the town's clergy and police are struck by anti-satanic fervor. Though the anti-Satan zeal interferes with her case, Catherine knows that she must quickly stop the killer before the missing girl becomes his next victim.

VAMPYRE BYTES is a well designed mystery that has many viable suspects with reasonable motives for committing the crimes, turning the novel into an almost unsolvable who-done-it. Additionally, the entertaining story line contains serious social issues that are intelligently presented in an informative yet entertaining manner. Linda Grant has scribed a very intriguing Catherine Sayler mystery that will have fans wanting more tales starring the intrepid sleuth.

Order it from Vault.com
This is a great book, but if you need it right away and don't want to pay a special handling fee order it directly from Vault.com. The eBook version is also available there as well as the new 2003 edition that is not available yet in bookstores.

a superb book and the only one of its kind
i don't normally write reviews as i'm too busy slaving away as a lawyer...but i must add my $.02 this vault guidebook is astonishingly good. my fellow lawyers and i can't get enough of "The Buzz" which tells what lawyers are saying about various firms. this is the ONLY resource that tells it like it is in the arduous, sometimes rewarding, sometimes nauseating world of BIGLAW

The best edition yet!!!
The folks at Vault have really outdone themselves. This new edition is huge and very much expanded from previous editions. The material inside is all new as well. The have increased the detail and have done an incredible job providing the scoop on the top law firms in the country (including many that didn't make the top 50). They have included information on the quality of life rankings and their methodology. The book is invaluable for any law student as well as any lawyer considering a lateral move. I have a copy on my desk at a prominent law school and find people constantly borrowing it. Highly recommended.

Inspirational!
Wall of Fame gives us hope in the ebbs and flows of education reform. It is about a program that really works, created by a teacher. I found the book well written and would recommmend it to anyone interested in public school education.

Great Book!
This was a great book. Mary Catherine Swanson has a great Avid program. This teacher was really dedicated to help teens into college.

Good News For Education!
This book is a pleasure to read. I'm working toward becoming a high school teacher and this book really inspired me. The book is about a program called AVID, which is a class in middle school and high school. The program started some 20 years ago and has consistently sent over 90% of its students to college! Good stuff!

Zachary's Virgin (Presents, 2143)

Yummy!
Zachary's Virgin by Catherine Spencer is a delight. She knows how to weave character, plot, and setting into a seamless whole that draws the reader into a world s/he doesn't want to leave. I devoured the book through from cover to cover twice, and I have put it on my "keepers" shelf to enjoy again whenever I'm in the mood for a really good read.

FIVE GLORIOUS CHRISTMAS STARS to Catherine Spencer
Yes! Love is sweeter than wine when we feel it through the skin of a lonely French woman who meets the Canadian man of her dreams and cannot have him.

Claire Durocher does Christmas at a small, exclusive BC ski resort to recharge batteries worn down by work and the social whirl.

Zachary Alexander, luxury innkeeper, widower tied to his deceased wife, is the possessive father of a budding teenager.

Claire destroys his peace and brings out the worst in him. With the toughness of a Marseilles street kid, she befriends his child and endures Zach's anger. He must resolve guilty grief for a dead wife and learn to share his daughter with a woman he brands a wealthy playgirl. Claire struggles to hide her true heart from this man who reviles her.

Her comical efforts to grasp North American English expressions infuse the story with gentle humour as their love grows amid starry nights and glittering snowclad days.

FIVE GLORIOUS STARS to Catherine Spencer for this Christmas masterpiece of loving and learning to love again.

Zachary's Virgin -What Love & Fullfillment for Xmas
Catherine Spencer's romance, Zachary's Virgin, is an exciting romance with the sexual tension we long for and the sweet joy of its tension resolving.

The main characters, Zachary and Claire, are so true and believable. They are exciting, attractive, sophisticated, and yet so human you would dream you've seen them somewhere.

I was delighted with the descriptions of the winter beauty of Bristish Columbia. I could smell the evergreen and feel the feathery, damp snow falling and see the huge, snow capped mountains.

Best of all was the plot. Claire's childhood was described so skillfully and poignantly. I could admire her willpower in remaining a virgin while I ached feeling the hurt she had endured that cut her off from so much of life.

Zachary's attractiveness was stunning from the moment the reader discovered him. I liked the way his thoughts were expressed in his own vernacular. He is such a completely male character with competence, good looks, education, love for his daughter and finally the ability to yield to his attraction for Claire.

Melanie's teenage turmoil was so apparent as was her wonderful young charm that Claire elicited from her. How fully drawn was all the caring Claire felt and the connection Mel felt.

Catherine Spencer gave me a romance that sparkles with her understanding of passion and warms with her compassion for women. It put me in the holiday spirit and in a romantic mood.

What nice little Christmas gifts this book will make. They will warm any woman's heart with memories of Christmas past and hopes for a romantic holiday to come.

Has anyone started a fan club for Catherine Spencer yet?

Very entertaining!
It's so very true, with tips such as when and when not to make eye contact, being cute, telephone manners, and my personal favorite, escaping from collars. I swear my cat found my copy and read it... she does everything by the book!

This book is a must for cat owners and lovers.
This book is written by cats, and does a great job of explaining the cat's brain and behavior to mere humans. Read it, share it with friends and new cat owners. DO NOT ALLOW ANY CAT TO SEE THIS BOOK!! Any cat who doesn't know these secrets shouldn't learn them from us. 50 Secrets of Highly Successful Cats is hilarious and right on the mark. After reading it myself, I read it aloud to friends. It is a must for new cat owners, who will need a good laugh while they are getting acquainted with their cat.

ABC's of Middle School : A Handbook for Parents Who Don't Have a Clue

The ABC's
This is a great book! I just wish I had it when my children were in middle school. I will be purchasing this for my children so they can be smarter than I was with their children!

Dr. Canny is right on!
As a parent of a middle school child, I feel as though this book was written for both my daughter and me. The same challenges my daughter seems to face daily are here---in this book, described with humor and sound advice. Dr. Canny's candid approach was a pleasant surprize, as I realized that she is a retired middle school principal. There were several entries that my daughter and I read together. They served as a wonderful talking point and gave us a chance to focus on a positive exchange with imput from an "independent third party." Dr. Canny would have loved being in our living room during the often spirited conversations inspired by her writing. She is a pro! I hope she will speak in my area; I would love to see her in person.

The Age of Miracles
Published in Paperback by Arrow (A Division of Random House Group) (07 June, 1990)
Author: Catherine MacCoun
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

One of the best
Picked this up by chance on holiday in Greece. Historical fictional setting but "modern" psychology (particularly male/female relationships) and totally believable characters. Funny and moving at the same time. If you like Diane Norman, you'll love this.

The Age of Miracles is a truly moving & unique story.
Although the main character, Ingrid Fairfax, is a historical figure in the eyes of the Church, Catherine MacCoun weaves an almost entirely fictional story about the "saint"'s life. The book is powerful enough to show that, as in Ingrid's case, one does not have to be a saint to be religious, and, as in her lover, Jack's, case one does not have to be a sinner because one's life has been tragic. Ingris sins for Jack, and Jack, like a saint, gives up the easy life he led, to save Ingrid. This book is a moving and strong picture of a woman who is fighting between good and evil, without knowing which is which. If you are looking for a book to renew your faith, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for first-rate historical fiction, then look no further. MacCoun writes some of the best historical fiction I have had the pleasure of reading. This is a definite read.
