Still Magical
I remember reading these books on my summer vacations to my grandparents...I was bored and the local town librarian recommended them to me. Many years later, looks for books on mysterious houses for a nephew, I remembered and re-discovered them. My favorite is An Enemy At Green Knowe. The story is full of twists and turns and quite frightening events, with the excitement lasting just long enough to tantalize the reader. You feel the house itself is a living breathing character, as is true of the entire series. This is the kind of book an adult needs to put in the hands of the student -- as is true with A Wrinkle In Time -- and sit back while the child becomes wrapped in the world of Green Knowe. A superior children's book!

Fifth in the Green Knowe series
Why is this book out of print?

In this, the fifth Green Knowe book, Tolly AND Ping come to spend the summer with Tolly's great grandmother, Mrs. Oldknow, and do battle with the forces of evil as personified by a newneighbor, Melanie Powers.

Absolutely wonderful -- my favorite part is the very end, where everything comes together serendipitously to defeat Miss Powers, leaving you to feel that all is right with the world.

One of the best
Like Tove Jansson's Moomin books & Arthur Ransome's Swallows & Amazons series, L.M. Boston's Green Knowe books remain underappreciated by American readers. Even so, these three series are arguably of vastly superior quality to the ubiquitous Harry Potter, Narnia, and Roald Dahl books. An Enemy at Green Knowe is the 5th in this series of 6 which do not need to be read sequentially. Tolly, the protagonist of the first 2 books is now united w/ Ping, the hero of books 3 & 4. Those familiar w/ the series will know that the "shadow protagonist" is Mrs. Oldknow, Tolly's great-grandmother & owner of the manse Green Knowe & its magical environs.

Green Knowe is a place whose past haunts its present. Mrs. Oldknow relates to the 2 boys an incident out of Green Knowe's past, when the mysterious Dr. Vogel took up residence at Green Knowe as the family tutor in the year 1630. Dr. Vogel became caught up in some nefarious activity, and as the boys soon learn, the evil force that was unleashed by Dr. Vogel still lurks in the present day. They must confront this challenge to Green Knowe and its proprietor in a series of hair-raising events -- although written for children, this book is not for the faint of heart.

The Green Knowe books differ from one another quite a bit, but in my estimation this one ranks w/ Children of Green Knowe as the best. While that one was delightful for its innocence, this one is notable for the way in which it gives the reader chills.

Boston's prose is graceful & intelligent & is recommended for the literate grade schooler. These books are the logical starting point for a reader to progress to the works of Susan Cooper, Alan Garner, and Robert Holdstock.

No mention of the Green Knowe books would be complete w/o mention of the marvelous illustrations by Peter Boston. Unfortunately, the Odyssey Classic reprints chose hideously garish covers, although to their credit they preserved Peter Boston's interior illustrations. Still, their choice of covers probably explains why these books are now out of print.

glorious book!
This book is a must for anyone interested in including greens into their diet.

Each chapter is catagorized by specific green, describing in detail proper storage, cleaning and preparation instructions.

There are simple everday recipes as well as great dishes you would serve guests. It has a broad array of recipes for side dishes, soups, main courses and salads.

I got this book out of the library to sample it and just fell in love. I thought I'd make copies of the few recipes of interest. When I was done there were over 30 recipes of I wanted to make. I put it on my holiday list but have decided to buy it for myself now. I am buying about 5 more to give as gifts to my friends.

Enjoy!

A great introduction to the world of green vegetables
Leafy green vegetables are so healthy for you, but trying to figure out how to cook them was a huge challenge for me! I even found that main stream vegetarian cookbooks barely mentioned them! This book looks at each leafy green vegetable alphabetically and describes it, tells you what to look for when buying it, and gives between 5 an 10 recipes for cooking it. It covers everything from mustard, to kale, to chard, to chinese greens. I love this book! The recipes are easy and fast to prepare. I highly recommend this cookbook.

This book is a joy.
Since I bought this book, it has become a bible in my home for healthy innovative ideas and recipes that are simple in execution and absolutely wonderful. There's not a recipe that has disappointed my family. In addition to the terrifc recipes, there are loads of helpful tips and information on the importance of greens in our diet. I highly recommend this book to the serious cook and the amatuer as a fresh approach to a healthier and delicious life style.

Catherine Cookson writes a thrilling novel!
I watched the movie, (The Secret) before I read the book. I adored the plot and immidiatly had to buy the novel. After reading it, I came away with a wonderful feeling. I loved all the characters and the book just contained so much more.

A wonderful book for any Catherine Cookson lover. :o)

Another great one!
Catherine Cookson has done it again. Another great book; one can't put down. Freddy is a likeable imp always coming out on top and Belle is a headstrong young girl who finds out what true love really is. Marcel who is a Dr, Jekyll/Mr. Hyde character is well written. A good book from start to finish

Catherine Cookson Powerfully at her best !
Catherine Cookson's Harrogate is another 'magnate'of fiction.Immediately one is endeared to Freddie-he's small he's slippery and he's lucky! The luck somtimes turns bad-Mr Gallagher sees to that but usually the luck is good and loving. His love of Maggie Hewitt is an everlasting love, somewhere between motherly love and 'falling in love'. When Mr Gallagher is gone he still has the power to threaten and ruin Freddie's successes. And Belle, Belle, Belle! Nearly murdered! Yet through Maggie and Freddie's intercession she becomes a beautiful woman ,but noticed by the wrong man....... This novel is riveting-not to be put down from start to finish! One of the very best of Catherine Cookson's creations.

Always a joy! To be savored over and over!
Hiawatha is a beautiful, richly detailed poem of Native Americans before the treahery of the white man overwhelmed their way of life. Susan Jeffers took each verse and created a breathtaking, artist's view of the young Hiawatha. Each verse becomes vibrantly alive with her delicate rendiions."By the shores of ..." and Nokomis fill the readers souls with new images because of the renderings made by the talented Susan Jeffers.

A captivating, emotional charge. Beautiful!
Susan Jeffers' drawings exemplify the clarity and imagination of Longfellow's epic poem to a tee. A must have for every child's library, hopefully to be read over and over again.

A childhood classic comes alive
I have this poem memorized because my father recited it to me so many times as a child. This illustrated version has beautiful pictures that capture the fact that this is the story of child and embody the lyric quality of Longfellows poem.

Inspirational
There is nothing better than to be able to reach for my Hope Happens book and let it open randomly...I am amazed at how the right saying will appear for the right situation and uplift me out of my despair and dejection. Having initially read this book from cover to cover I have found many a favourite saying which has got me through tough times. This is definitely a book that should be left on your table top at work and at home and not shelved in your bookcase. Hope Happens is only ever a hands reach away.

Just what I needed
This book gave me a lift so I kept it by my bedside...but it kept sprouting wings and traveling around the house. I have three daughters aged 11 to 15 and they loved it. One started sending the motivational quotes by IM to her friends. They loved the quotes and want the book, too. Now I am picking up several for quick gifts...it works for all ages. From teen to granny, there is quick, easy stress relief on every page of this book. I finished with the realization that our only limitations in life are those we put on ourselves.

A little book that made a big difference
Couldn't believe that such a simple, easy to read book could make such a difference to help anyone feeling down in the dumps to start looking forward again and find a little hope in seemingly hopeless situiations that we all face from time to time. I gave a copy to a friend in hospital and it was such a huge hit with the all the staff, I had to buy another copy. Truly inspiring words and beautiful photos and presentation.

What a practice book must be!
I am very glad to see that this book is rated 5 stars here in amazon.com, for my opinion is that such book is a most perfect one for purposes of grammar practice of the English language.
What really should be noticed is that, usually, the more advanced the book is, the more tiring it is for the student to read; but the previous logic does not apply to this one! I feel a great pleasure in reading it and doing its exercises mainly because of one very important caracteristic that every didatic book should embody: the abundance of visual elements, especially the little comic strips and the numerous strong sayings uttered by various famous people, which are spread profusely throughout the book. Its visually rich and coloured pages shall, most certainly, banish the usual boredom that students feel in studying grammar, and please, future reader, do not worry; the contents of the book are also very rich, and I may assure any purchaser in potential that this book doesn't lack any important information; it is a thorough coverage for students who wish to get more fluent in written and spoken language alike.

Clear, Simple and Readable!
I easily get bored when i read english grammar books, but with this book grammar become more enjoying and easy to understand. Before going through grammar lessons you can test your grammar by questions and know your weak points. You can use it as starter book for english grammar and as reference. It is very clear, simple, readable and contains some colorful cartoons. With each topic there is tasks and excercises. I highly recommend it for intermediate students.

Grammar book for high intermediate students
A very clear book. It's great at explaination, short on excercises- but it does have an answer key. Too few excercises for a text, but a great refrence for teachers and ESL students.

The Internationalists: Business Strategies for Globalization

Highly recommended reading for business managers.
The Internationalists gathers business strategies for globalization, addressing several challenges faced by globalizing corporations and considering how a business can expand internationally. This defines internationalists as a distinct profession, providing a strategy for identifying them and understanding business functions beyond borders. Business managers and students will relish the approach.

Internationalist: An emerging, adventurous professional
A globalized world can often feel murky. "The Internationalist" brings clarity by explaining who an internatinalist is and what such an unorthodox career can offer. The book is important reading for professionals currently engaged in the field and for neophytes wishing to enter it.

A Must Read for Current & Future Internationalists
I am writing this book review as a practitioning internationalist for 12 years and a current executive trainer & coach in the field of International Leadership Development.

The Internationalists is an excellent guidebook for Human Resource, Organizational Development, and Training & Development professionals, as well as, current and future internationalists.

Internationalist is a distinct career with unique skill sets, competencies and acumen which are prerequesites, in addition to functional expertise such as marketing, sales, or finance, for anyone being developed or selected for an international assignment.

Traditional human resource, organizational development and business education in the USA have not addressed, until very recently, the dinstinct role performed by an Internationalist.

Catherine Scherer provides a succinct, concise and practical guidebook concerning the successful selection and development of an Internationalist, based upon real world experiences of practicing internationalists. This book belongs in the core curriculum of business, human resource and organizational development educational programs, as well as, on the desks (not bookshelves) of managers and executives working in the global world of business.

The proactive, strategic approach of this book is right on target and explains why so many organizations are unsuccessful in the recruitment, development and support of employees on international assignments. More important, the book provides an effective, proactive framework for "learning from experience" of practicing internationlists.

Those individuals interested in expanding their perspective and return on investment related to Intellectual Capital and Global Human Resource Managment, will find The Internationlists to be a wise short-term investment, which will contribute long-term yields.
