The PERFECT picture book!
As a teacher and mother of three, I am always on the look out for good picture books. I love almost everything that the Anholts have done, but Chimp and Zee is SENSATIONAL, (and no I'm not a relative or a publisher!). My class absolutely squeal with delight when I get out this huge brightly coloured story book... then as soon as I get home, my own kids, aged 3,5 and 8 are begging for Chimp and Zee too. I do hope there will be more adventures about these adorable twin monkeys. Without exaggeration, this is the best children's picture book I have ever seen.

The most FANTASTIC children's book we have ever found!
We bought Chimp and Zee whilst on vacation in England and our three kids went MAD for it! We have since bought at least ten copies for all the kids we know. It's a HUGE, brightly colored story about two wonderful twin monkeys...you just have to see it to get the idea.

The Circle of Healing : Deepening Our Connections with Self, Others, and Nature

Excellent Book
The Circle of Healing is an inspiring book that encourages growth on many different levels. Breathing, communication, emotional growth, listening to your body's wisdom, and nature as teacher and healer, are some of the rich topics explored. This book is a combination of deep insights and practical exercises. Holt is a holistic health educator and environmental activist. In addition, she's an experienced biofeedback therapist who has helped clients recover from stress-related disorders and occupational injuries.

The section on body posture is filled with practical wisdom. Holt talks about a medical condition called "forward head syndrome" where the head is held too far forward. This causes pain in the neck and shoulders. Holt equates this posture with "leading with my head instead of my heart. I'm going too fast, trying to think my way out of everything, instead of being willing to feel." I highly recommend savoring the healing opportunities that come from reading this excellent book.

Terrific Reference for Improving One's Life
This book is a terrific reference for those who are seeking healing and improvement in their lives.

Author Cathy Holt provides us with a kind of primer on becoming more grounded by sharing personal stories and by describing the teaching of many well-known spiritual practitioners such as Thich Nhat Hahn and Sun Bear, and the study of works by other medical and holistic experts.

With a reminder to us of the importance of our being connected to nature, Holt outlines the tools essential for finding peace through personal awareness. First, she underscores the importance of and how to go about healing oneself by making intentions, finding support and forming healing community. Then she describes the steps required for physical healing such as honoring, communicating with and relaxing the body, and breathing properly. She follows this with invaluable guidance on emotional healing including identifying and dealing with the "inner critic," cultivating gratitude, becoming less judgmental, being open to differing perspectives, and the importance of engaging in work which is truly satisfying.

Finally she tells us how to "complete the circle" by connecting most fully with natural guides invoking sacred space, getting beyond materialism, and identifying and fully connecting with our own best community.

All of these topics are discussed both technically-as based on the author's experience with medical practitioners and on her own work as a biofeedback therapist- and spiritually-as based on her research and experience with teaching and healing circles, personal vision quests, etc.

The book contains an impressive list of recommended readings, videos, and audiotapes, as well as contact information for self-help organizations.

I highly recommend that anyone looking to make changes in his/her life start with this book and use it as a reference before visiting the self-help or spirituality sections at the local bookstore.

We know it by heart!!!
We have survived many long driving tours all over the British Isles, Europe, America and Australia with four young children due in large part to this very clever and amusing cassette. This highly witty story - brilliantly read by Josie Lawrence - appeals to adults and children alike. Despite the fact that between us all we can recite the story in its entirety....we never tire of it! We would like to have a copy of this for each of our children, and would love to share it as a gift to many friends. Please, please make the cassette available again!

Everyone loves this cassette!
My son and his four cousins, all male, have all memorized this cassette. One of them, 18, can recite nearly the whole book by memory. Derek Griffiths recites the story most beautifully. This recording has brought my family almost infinite pleasure, and we want to thank both him and Catherine Storr for the rendition. But how shall I replace our worn-out cassette? isabernardy@yahoo.co.uk

Collected Lorca in fine translation
This volume is really superb. The translations are of consistently high quality. I particularly enjoyed Jerome Rothenberg's "Suites." Too bad this book is out of print!

Magnificent!
When I first came across this book in my library I was so smitten with it I tried to gulp it all down in one swallow. As a poet myself, though, I am still eating and enjoying every bite. Burdened by the beauty of his metaphors it has been a challenge to read him without weeping. Though my only famil- iarity with him is through the translations in this volume, I am Latin enough to feel the intense passion, sorrow and melancholy he seems to have been possessed of in his lifetime. His struggle with himself, his love for his country and its ancient symbolism, his devotion to the Old Songs, his sadness at the death of a friend who was a Bullfgihter, his generous respect for the Gypsies, are all painted with the deep colors of language ... sometimes sweet, sometimes tongue-in-cheek humerous sometimes sardonic, sometimes satirical ... even ironical. But there is a mysticism that illuminates it all ... even his sorrow shines. He is a true wanderer ... he roams his! own world and ours and leaves us all mystified, a little confused, and wondering.. What is his "green" ... what does it, can it, truly, signify? Will anyone ever know? This volume is an accumulation of poems that demonstrates a rare and prodigious talent. His assassination at the hands of his enemies deprives us of more of his great work. This is a luminour opus! It is a shame it is out of print. Every poet, every wanna-be-poet, should read and re-read this book!

A must review novel!
When I read the first book to this series Comanche Moon, I fell inlove with Amy and Chase! I knew C.A. had to complete a book about these two wonderful characters that was all their own. I also enjoyed reading about Loretta and Hunter again. Make sure to read the two following books Indigo Blue and Comanche Magic which bring all of these wonderful characters together again! Comanche Hart was just what I needed after reading Camanche Moon. I feel in love with Amy and Chase and I was not disapointed!

A true American Indian "bad boy"! very good!!
Amy Masters leaves Texas and travels to Oregon to become a teacher. After having been raped, she is afraid to try to love even though years earlier she pledged herself to Swift Antelope. He has never forgotten and once again this magnificent Comanche warrior finds her. Now, however, he is a nortorious gunslinger with his own problems, as he stands accused of a murder he didn't commit. He vows to make her honor her sacred promise.

The Compact Oxford Reference Dictionary

finally...
finally someone made a dictionary like I would. logical, no jargon pronunciation system, small enough but quite comprehensive and with extra info, at the back, hard cover in black, what else could I want?

well, only two things. at least one page of maps (world map)
and I wish someone would make a dictionary for people who like to take one with you when reading. to make it small AND comprehensive it would have small print, thin paper, and not include obvious words such as "the" "table" or "reindeer"
like dictionaries used to be(hard words only)

finally someone wrote a dictionary the way I would
finally someone has used standard letters for a pronunciation system. I always thought this would be the best way and never bothered learning the wacky other systems.
it's a nice balance between completeness and compactness.

only one complaint. they should have included at least one
map of the world in the reference section (the full-size reference dictionary has 16 pages of maps.

Very helpful
I found the guidelines in this book very useful in designing Adventure programmes. Using this book in conjunction with other Adventure Programing books and resources I was able to construct a professional, detailed programme.

Insightful and Thorough
Karl Rohnke, Catherine Tait, and Jim Wall have produced an excellent volume for those who run programs in the Challenge Course Industry. This book not only provides practical advice and strategies for effective and safe management but also provides a sometimes humurous look at potential problems with a nice bit of history to boot! Well recommended! Project Adventure has a monopoly no more!

The Consumer Health Information Source Book
Published in Paperback by Oryx Press (1994)
Authors: Alan M. Rees and Catherine Hoffman
Amazon base price: $39.50
Used price: $4.19
Average review score:

The bible of consumer health information
As a consumer health librarian I can say that this is the absolute bible when it comes to selecting health-related materials. Not just a list of books, this is a wide-ranging source of well-written, well-considered reviews of almost all types of materials (books, CD-ROMs, databases, pamphlets, magazines/newsletters, Spanish-language materials, and more) for the layperson, plus selected sources written for the health professional that would be helpful in the well-stocked consumer health library. There is an extensive section of reviews of complementary/alternative therapy materials, something the faint-of-heart might not have wanted to tackle, but Rees accomplishes it with aplomb. Conspicuous by its absence is a list of consumer health videos, but this would be a huge task in and of itself!

Rees knows his stuff (more importantly, he has known his stuff over time--this is the 6th edition of this book [2000]) and he doesn't play it safe: many of the books he reviews are concerned with controversial theories or therapies, but he reviews them impartially. Most public libraries, all medical/hospital libraries, and many academic libraries can benefit from owning a copy of this book, for collection development purposes and also for patrons to browse. The interested layperson, either a patient or family member, would do well to consult this book when looking for the best books/other materials on your particular topic.

Most comprehensive, current consumer health guide
This is the source that medical librarians turn to when developing consumer health collections. The absolute best starting place for selecting consumer health titles!

Crystal Healing
In my judgement, this is an informative book on crystals and their use. I really enjoyed the sections on how to use crystals in healing. The book also explains how to program your crystals, and how to take care of them. A very detailed, useful book.

I Loved the book!
This book expanded my spiritual horizons. I am more at peace with myself and the world. Thank you Ms. Bowman
