Custom-tailored Comments from an Industry Guru
Lewis is a copywriting and marketing guru with over 25 books under his belt. This book is designed for the times, when so many marketers are concerned about how to get their message out by electronic mail--a lot cheaper than the alternative offered by the United States Postal Service. Benefit: at least e-mail gets through; unfortunately, a lot of bulk mail has not made it to addressees over the years.

So what's different about the electronic approach, other than the method of distribution? Don't you still need great copy and an effective target list of potential buyers?

There are a lot of similarities between electronic and postal direct mail, so you'll read chapters on words and phrases that work and don't work. You'll still get the advice on how to construct your message to grab the attention of the recipient. This immediate attention issue is even more acute with e-mail: hitting the DELETE button is a lot quicker than handling a piece of mail, opening it or not, and tossing it in the trash.

Lewis has tailored this book nicely to this new medium, exploring how to adapt to this communications vehicle without getting burned. Chapters discuss opt-ins, avoiding the "spam" accusation, and how to use the e-mail subject line most effectively. He explores how to establish rapport through e-mail, using personalization and psychology to elicit the desired response. The chapter on rich media and viral mail is certainly something you won't find in a typical marketing book.

This book is filled with medium-specific information, quelling my fear that this would be just another marketing book with "E-Mail" dropped in the front of the title. These pages are a treasure-trove of resources and tailored advice. The ten pages of tips at the end of the book supplement the tips that appear on the pages throughout the text. An abundance of examples illustrate the author's points. Indexed.

Using techniques that grab reader attention
Herschell Gordon Lewis' Effective Email Marketing tells how to avoid the common pitfalls of the typical email marketing program to focus on massmarket messages which get results. Individualization and customization are part of the keys, as well as using techniques that grab reader attention.

yea, this one isn't for dummies!
I found the Effective Executive's Guide to Microsoft Outlook 2002 to be informative and useful. I really liked the tone, as I get irritated quickly with guides that hold your hand through each action, assuming you have no knowledge whatsoever. This guide offers interesting tips, has a nice layout, and is reasonably priced as well.

For readers tired of Dummies, Idiots and Step By Step books
This book on Outlook 2002 is a good reference for anybody who's using Outlook 2002--and especially for corporate users. The book emphasizes the email applications of Outlook, as the list of chapters below show, but it also covers the other types of work you can do:

Chapter 1: Getting STarted with Outlook Chapter 2: Reading E-Mail Chapter 3: Sending E-Mail Chapter 4: Managing Your E-Mail Chapter 5: Using a Contacts List Chapter 6: Managing Your Time Chapter 7: Maintaining Outlook

Appendix A: Using Notes Appendix B: Outlook and Exchange Appendix C: Automatically Process Form Data Appendix D: Glossary

Most Outlook users will find this book supplies all the information they need. The two weak points (at least for some readers) of this book are that it doesn't provide enough information about Outlook for people who are Outlook administrators or developers. I.e., it's not like one of those 1000pp Outlook references that tell you everything there is to know about Outlook. Another weak point is that if someone really likes the hand-holding and slow pace of, for example, a Dummies book or a Complete Idiots Guide or a Step by Step book (where they tell you to click OK when you finish with some dialog box), this isn't the right book. It assumes you've got some basic computer skills.

Hilarious, eye-opening, out of date but still worth reading
The true SubGenius Holy Books are "The Book of the SubGenius" and "Revelation X: The 'Bob' Apocryphon," but "High Weirdness by Mail" was the book that truly opened my eyes for "Bob." Published in 1988, it was a groundbreaking book that opened the door to the widening field of crackpotology, and a number of more "serious" books looking at the fringe elements of society have all credited High Weirdness as their inspiration. The addresses in that book are now more than ten years out of date, but the book is still worth reading for the vicious, hilarious, and outrageous reviews of all of the addresses contained therein. The writing reveals a great part of the true purpose of the Church of the SubGenius, and it was the writing of High Weirdness that inspired me to send my money to "Bob" and become a fully ordained (and paid-up) SubGenius minister.

Tribute to J.R. "BOB" Dobbs
Are you dissatisfied of this world? Do other people think you are different? Well your not alone. The Church of the Subgenius is for you! You'll learn how J.R. "BOB" Dobbs used his psycic powers for financial gain since the age of six! You'll learn that you are not alone in your thinking, and its just that everyone else is brainwashed. Order Today!

Your tour guide through "Yahoo! country"
If, like me, you make your "home" in "Yahoo! country" or you're new to the neighborhood, you've probably found yourself overwhelmed by the hundreds of things to do and points of interest that should be taken in. But, with so so little time and so much to do, where do you find the assistance that you need? Pick up a copy of "How to Do Everything with Yahoo!" and you'll be on your way.

Unquestionably, this book is the answer. It is jam-packed with 500 pages of information on every conceivable neighborhood and how to get the most out of each one. Whether you are a Yahoo! newbie or a longtime resident, you shouldn't be without this book.

Yahoo - Everything You Need On the Web
I purchased this book for a friend who was new to the internet, but I couldn't resist cracking it open. The book is layed out in a very clear, concise format, if you're interested in a function of Yahoo!, there is probably a chapter devoted to it. I was amazed at the versatility of the site...I used the free email, messenger and companion, but had no idea that there was so much more to do on Yahoo!. I love Chess, now I can play online. I love getting up-to-date sports scores, now I can get them through Yahoo!. I love to buy through my computer, now I can comparison shop from a single web site, all through Yahoo! Shopping. If you want to save time and find out everything you can do with your computer, then this book is an excellent way to learn.

Wonderful and straight to the point
The book is wonderful for the busy business person who wants to get straight to the point on how to organize a profitable e-mag. I wanted to use an e-newsletter for marketing purposes for my small business. Because of this book, I have started a whole new subsidiary to my business. It has actually started to become an income stream, though minor, for my business. It more than pays for itself. I owe a large percentage of this success to "How To Publish A Profitable E-mag. If read from front to cover, it will take you less than 1 day to read. The author presents valuable resources and bullet point information. She also promotes other valuable resources that she doesn't even profit from. I find her book to be genuine and practical. I have used it as a blue print for our new business. She is very honest in mentioning the limitations in her book, but she points you to other books and periodicals that get further into the technical aspects of e-magazines. "How To Publish a Profitable E-mag" is definitely the first stop in publishing a profitable e-mag.

E-Books level the playing field...
I bought this brief "How To" book and was rather impressed. It provides a sound methodology for writing and publishing e-books in an age where small self-publishers can theoretically compete with the large publishers, especially if the self-publishers are skilled at digitizing their publications for online sales. The references to key "virtual" partners were also invaluable. Finally, I liked the fact that I could read the entire book in an hour or so.

I would have to say that it needs more exitmint.
Well people usaly want to read something that would want you to not put the book down. Keeping you wondering what will happen next.

Like looking into someone's mail box.
This is a book of postal-delivered treasures. I love getting mail and basically this book is all the mail Andy Jenkins got over a period of 8 years. Jenkins was the co-fonder of Homeboy and Dirt magazines with Mark Lewman and now pop-culture icon, Spike Jonze... and looking into this thing is like getting insight into the lives of this trio and their peers. If you followed BMX, skateboarding or youth culture in general during the years of '86 to '94, you'll know a few of the heads in here. And if you read the books you'll know what they had to say----to Jenkins, anyway. As a bonus, the 8 year span gives you an idea how some of these folks grew out of youth into adults. A pretty realistic record of authentic, pre-labled, gen-Xers; from goofy postcards to long, heady spiels. I dug it.

Fun and Heartwarming
Sparks fly between a sexy hero and vulnerable heroine trying to protect her wounded heart! J. Morris wins my applause once more with this story of a widow determined not to fall in love a second time. Wanting to give her two children a father, Jodie Richards has come to Alaska to marry her mail-order man. Then Jodie steps off the plane and into a case of mistaken identity, which is why she ends up kissing her prospective groom's brother. From that moment Jodie's heart can't stop imagining a marriage where love calls the shots. Donovan Masters is annoyed with his irresponsible brother for going off to climb a mountain, leaving HIM to meet the arriving fiancée. Then the bride-to-be kisses him, her two-year-old daughter is determined to call him daddy, and his mother insists he stick around to become acquainted with his future sister-in-law. If only Jodie wasn't so...desirable. Jodie's Mail-Order Man is a wonderful story with a great mix of humor, emotion, passion, and of course, a happy ending! It's a terrific third book to Ms. Morris's Bridal Fever series. If you don't read Callie, Get Your Groom and Hannah Gets a Husband, you're missing a real treat. I can't wait until she tells the stories of Cole Masters (the hero's brother with a case of marital cold feet), and of Jodie's own siblings.

A Delightful Read!
Jodie Richards has been married to a man hooked more on adventure than his family. And she had lost him. Now, she and her children were taking a leap of their own - on a man Jodie had never met.

And since she'd never seen her mail-order fiance outside photographs, it was understandable that she might mistake Cole's brother, Donovan, for the man she expected to meet. After all, she did expect Cole to meet her flight when it arrived in Alaska. But was it also understandable to kiss the wrong man - and like it?

Donovan Masters, a confirmed bachelor, found himself torn between loyalty to his absent thrill-seeker brother and the sudden attraction he felt for Jodie. But when Cole's change of heart is revealed, can Donovan convince Jodie he is the Master of her heart?

A delightful read with splendidly written characters and a well-crafted story. Rounding out the three book series, "Bridal Fever", "Jodie's Mail Order Man" is sure to please. Don't miss the rest of Ms. Morris' series!

Junk Mail Solution: Stop Junk Mail and Telemarketing Calls: Three Easy Steps to Freeing Yousel F from Junk Mail and Telemarketing

Less Junk Mail in a Flash
The information and postcards in Junk Mail Solution work wonders. My mother was on every mailing list imaginable. Thanks to Junk Mail Solution, she now receives almost none. And stopping the junk mail was so easy! I'd recommend the book to anyone who wants to reduce the time spent each day sorting through mail. And you'll save a tree as well.

Halting Solicitations
Junk Mail Solution explains how we wind up on so many solicitation lists and shows how to get off those rolls. The greatest value of this book is in the signs and pre-addressed post cards. There are signs to place near the telephones to remind you to utter the nine magic words. And there are cards to mail to the 26 list maintenance companies and list associations.

Of course, if you are a direct mailer or telemarketer, you may learn to breach some of these defenses. :)

Jackie Plusch is a professional organizer. She established the Clutter Cutter, a service to help individuals and groups manage space, time and materials. She soon discovered her clients were wasting hours handling unwanted mail and telephone calls.

As a publisher, author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I like books that provide solutions without wasting my time with padding. .....

Page turner
I've heard so much about email romances both good and bad that I didn't think "loveonline.com" would touch me like it did. From the very start I got caught up in the lives of the characters and felt like a friend listening to both their stories. I was particularly pleased with the theme of solar power replacing dirty fossil fuel. This is an obvious step our planet must take. A great read. I recommend it.

Exciting Romance for Lovers of All Ages
loveonline.com is an excellent book. It's vivid descriptions allow the reader to be a part of the relationship that develops between the two main characters via email. As the plot grows so does the suspense. This really keeps you wanting to turn the page and see the next turn of events. What I liked most about this book is that something like this could really happen in our all too technological society. I encourage everyone to read this book and be surprised by the ending.
