One of the favorites at our house!
This is such a sweet story with opportunity to show children how to encourage others. Our 2 year old loves it and asks for it over and over. Why is this not on the classics list yet?

MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE BOOKS FOR TOTS
This is my very favorite book for young children 2 through 5. Mitchell is a wonderful character. The story is sweet and happy. The illustrations are adorable. Highly, highly recommended.

A faithful mailman, who gets a cold and finally his own mail
I'm giving this a book a 5 star based on the reaction of my 3 children to the book when each of them discovered it at the age of 3-5 years old. The message and illustration is clear and folksy. A gentle, faithful mailman (who happens to be a dog) and longs for his own mail, delivers a birthday package to Bobby Beaver on a cold and rainy night, then gets a bad cold. His get well letters come in a big sack of mail and there ends the tale. The type is large enough for the child to eventually read on their own and they want to!! This book is similar in tone, simplicity and clarity to Maurice Sendaks Little Bear, or Mazy the Mouse. A quiet refuge for the young and their protectors in an often hectic world. I'm surprised there aren't more books and merchandise for this character, it should be and probably will be a classic one day.

sendmail Performance Tuning

Terrific value for money
Nick Christenson delivers exactly what the title promises, all the way through this book. Every paragraph is completely on topic and packed with the sort of information that would be hard or impossible to find anywhere else. Furthermore, you know that unlike something scrounged off Usenet, you can trust this information thanks to Nick's considerable experience in the field, which he shares frequently.

I'd say this book provides a major strategic advantage to anyone whose business depends upon e-mail performance.

Unexpected pleasure
When I first picked this up I really didn't expect much. I expected that this would be a rather ordinary rehash of typical performance tuning advice. How much could you possibly have to say about sendmail specifically?

Boy, was I wrong. Nick Christensen has a lot to say about tuning mail systems. The attention to detail here is simply wonderful, and his clear writing style makes it enjoyable too.

You can learn a lot about sendmail here, but you'll also gain a deeper understanding of how complicated performance tuning really is; how seemingly unrelated factors can really affect performance. Nick covers it all- nothing left out, nothing glossed over.

If you are interested in sendmail, you'll want this book. If you are running any other Unix mail system you still will want it because much of the advice and discussion is relevant to other systems. In fact, f you are just interested in performance tuning on any system, this is a worthwhile read.

Eric Allman (the original author of sendmail) says "This book is great". Eric is wrong. This is much better than that. This is an impressive work, and I've enjoyed it thoroughly.

The Sheriff and the E-mail Bride/Stray Hearts (Harlequin Duets 33)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (1900)
Authors: Liz Ireland and Jane Sullivan
Amazon base price: $4.99
Used price: $2.50
Average review score:

A Stunning Debut!
Jane Sullivan hits it big and hits it funny with STRAY HEARTS. In a fit of revenge, Kay Ramsey has a grooming service shave Up You into her cheating ex-fiance's prize purebred. The insult should have read Up Yours, but the artist ran out of dog. Her sentence to a veterinary clinic and her fear of animals keep the laughs coming and the chemistry sizzling between Kay and the resident vet. This book is a definite MUST READ. I can't wait for the next Jane Sullivan Novel.

Stray Hearts
I really enjoyed this book! Jane Sullivan has great skill at telling a story that makes you not want to keep reading until the last page and even then you wish that there was more (I can't wait to read her next book). There was a great mix of emotions both tears and laughs and plenty of romance too. I highly recommend this book to anybody who likes romantic comedy.

Stray Hearts
This book contains two complete novels, and I've so far only read STRAY HEARTS by Jane Sullivan, but I had to stop and write a review. Stray Hearts is about a woman, Kay, who is terrified of animals. When she catches her fiance with another woman, she hires a dog groomer to shave naughty words into the coats of his prize cocker spaniels. She gets caught, and the law comes down hard--she has to do volunteer work in an animal shelter.

The hero is the vet who runs the shelter, and he puts poor Kay to work scooping cat boxes! He's skeptical about her, and she's terrified of the animals. I won't tell you how they work it out, but I can assure you it's funny! A great, fast read, very well written, with lots of reasons to smile and sometimes laugh out loud. Especially fun if you like animals.

Automation Pays!: How to Automate Your Business: Point-Of-Sale and Back Office Management for Retail Stores, Chain Stores, Wholesalers, Mail Order, and Food Service
Published in Paperback by C A P Automation (1995)
Authors: Chuck Atkinson and Sandra H. Record
Amazon base price: $14.95
Average review score:

The advantages of automation in very practical terms.
This is the foreword to Automation Pays! by Corley Phillips President, Telephone Response Technologies, Roseville, CA: Computers are becoming an integral part of our everyday lives. This is especially true in businesses, where computers have gone from being a luxury to a necessity. Companies, such as Wal-Mart, have shown retailers how sophisticated inventory management through automation can give a company the competitive edge it needs to become a leader. It was this distinct advantage of automation that led my company to choose its mission statement: "Helping Growing Businesses Operate More Effectively."; Automated businesses truly are more effective. Those who do not automate find themselves at a particular competitive disadvantage. Their automated competitors always seem to have the popular items in stock, while those with manual systems have "dust collectors" soaking up carrying costs and profits. Competitors conduct rifle-shot marketing campaigns based upon current customer data, while those without customer information are still scattering their marketing dollars in shotgun fashion. Their competitors respond instantly to new trends based on up-to-date information, while the ones with manual systems find themselves guessing - often wrong. So, where do you turn for information on automation? In an industry as young as the PC software industry, it's unusual to find a guy like Chuck Atkinson who can provide a decade and a half of automation experience. His deep-seated conviction that automation is not only a necessity but a very profitable investment comes from years of experience in developing products for retailers and seeing the resulting benefits. This book will clearly demonstrate the advantages of automation in very practical terms.

Highly recommended for retailers and computer dealers.
"We feature Automation Pays! in our point-of-sale training video. An excellent resource."; Larry Jackson, Business Technology Association.

Parents should read Chatroom Voyeur
I thought I knew all there was to know about chat rooms, but boy was I wrong. This book brought stuff to light that I had no idea existed. Please if you are a parent read this book. This writer tells it like it is and I mean exactly like it is. Some of the chat room talk was to long, but overall it was a book I couldn't put down.

Chatroom Voyeur
Wow! A real eye opener. I could not put it down. Takes the reader through the sins, pleasures, and dangers of chatroooms. Be warned this is graphic adult material, but well worth the reading. A must for every parent with kids on the Internet!

Cherokee History at its best!!
Excellent text! Very detailed in explaining the origin, customs, social structure, and ancient ceremonial lore of the Cherokee people. Contains concise information regarding who the Cherokee were prior to European contact, as well as post contact.
Would recommend this text for use in teaching Cherokee Culture and History. A valuable tool for exploring and researching the history of a noble people- The Cherokee.

Extremely well written, documented and illustrated
Rev. Mails, a retired Lutheran minister, has produced a classic reference on the Cherokee people. He quotes other historians, including Englishmen who lived with the Cherokees during the 1700 and early 1800's, who believed the Cherokees are descended from the Hebrews (reinforcing Mormon beliefs that Cherokee ancestors came from Jerusalem and were Jews). The chapter on religion is very complete. The drawings, by Rev. Mails himself, are wonderful, as is his attention to detail. The bibliography is extensive.

Covers all aspects of using the Internet and email
Michael Chesbro's The Complete Guide To E-Security covers all aspects of using the Internet and email while protecting personal privacy. Chesbro reveals how anyone's email can be accessed and read a dozen times between the time it is sent and when it is received, that through such techniques as cookies and bugs, the unscrupulous can track which websites you visit, your IP address, email address, geographic location, even the type of computer you use. Chesbro then goes on to explain everything needed to insure both safety and anonymity while surfing the Internet, how to set up encrypted email, crate uncrackable passwords, "off the shelf" unbreakable encryption programs, and sending email through remailer services to disguise the source. The Complete Guide To E-Security is essential reading for anyone seeking to protect and ensure his or her privacy on the web or in electronic communications.

Must read: How to secure your e-mail from prying eyes
Mr. Chesbro discusses in detail and offers many practical solutions to internet and e-mail security. I found his book informative on exactly how e-mail messages are sent. More importantly his book has enabled me to send e-mail and surf the web by secure means without the worry of being intercepted by prying eyes. A must read for anybody who sends e-mail over the internet or desires greater internet security.

His explanation on how e-mail is sent and how to implement privacy safeguards are clear, relevant and to the point. Not included is a lot of unnecessary technical detail. He details practical methods on how a citizen or even a corporation can set up private and secure e-mail using free/public internet e-mail security programs. I especially liked his tips on anonymous web-browsing and e-mail remailers.

E-mail security is briefly touched on in the author's book "Privacy for Sale". In "The Complete Guide to E-security", Mr. Chesbro goes into much more detail on e-security when surfing the web, sending e-mail, e-communications planning, and laws pertaining to electronic communications.

E-Mail du jour

Author: Marjorie Vernelle
Amazon base price: $30.99

The eye of an Artist
Marjorie writes with the eye of an Artist. Her fresh writing style draws the reader into her world and makes for most enjoyble reading. I highly reccommend joining Marjorie on her travels!

A Cyber Year in France.
In the same vein as A Year in Provence. . . For any hard working professional who has dreamt of quitting her job and living the artist's life in France. Vernelle shares her story of jumping off the limb and landing well in Paris and, eventually, in the south of France, and finding her creativity in the process. The "e-mail" format gives the story a freshness and immediacy, a sort of cyber-epistolary genre. Funny and inspiring, a map for a great sabbatical year.

E-Mails from Scheherazad (The University of Central Florida Contemporary Poetry Series)
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Florida (T) (2003)
Author: Mohja Kahf
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

Excellent!
This is a beautiful, moving, witty poetry collection which I recommend to all readers, and to women readers in particular. Mohja Kahf's language, her voices, her characters move seemlessly upon the page, stopping once in a while to adjust their scarves or flip us the intellectual bird. A Badass first collection; Kahf wins my vote for poet laureate.

Better than Prozac
Mohja Kahf's poetry collection is better than prozac. Her poems link classical Arab characters with current day capitalistic trends ("Zuleika meets the Marlboro man across a delayed green"), and are punctuated, in the book's first half, with sometimes hilarious, sometimes poignant Hijab Scenes, where the author encounters everyday prejudice but moves beyond self-pity and anger to humor and celebration. The result is charming and ultimately empowering. The first third of the book tells the plight of the immigrant- the Arab Muslim in particular- and uses the metaphor of landing on the moon. The second third is an ode to women and womanhood, and made me lift my head a little higher when I left the bookstore (this book under my arm.) The last third is a beautiful dialogue on political currents and events, and the poem in which Matisse characters come to life is jaw-dropping. The poetry collection offers something rare and brilliant as a stone: an intellectual journey from which one emerges with voyager dust.
