There isn't a better GroupWise book
This is by far the most comprehensive GroupWise book. I have not seen more complete descriptions of GroupWise processes anywhere. The chapter on user moves is excellent. A MUST HAVE for any GroupWise administrator.

The Best GroupWise Book Anywhere
Administering GroupWise 5.5 is by far, the best GroupWise book I've ever read. It is honest, and very detailed no just how it works, but how it REALLY works, and how to troubleshoot.

Only regret is that it didn't come out when I started administering GroupWise systems. EXCELLENT

Administering Groupwise 5.5 by Howard Tayler
In reading and putting Howard Tayler?s book to use, I have found it to be one of the best computer books I have ever read. It covers concise information on how to administer GroupWise. Plus it covers the difficult issues and hard to solve problems. The chapter on delicate operations is a must for any GroupWise administrator. I have heard Howard Tayler speak several times. He has a way of taking any technical information and put it in a way that any audience can clearly understand it. His book is written with the same zest. His writing style is impeccably clear to understand. The solutions and answers are right on for troubleshooting. I know in his past he was apart of Novell's GroupWise Swat team. He has seen it all, and his book clearly put this into print.

Small Book, but Lots of Info
This is obviously a shortened version of administration of Exchange 2000, but the information seems to have been selected to help get exchange up and running quickly. I was just planning on programming for Exchange, but needed to get it running first. I learned more in half a day from this book than I did from days of searching newsgroups and sites on the web. This book explains in step-by-step instructions how to perform daily task such as adding users, mailboxes, and security setup.....

Excellent for what it is
This is excellent when used for quick reference and only for the experienced and knowledgeable. This is inappropriate for beginners since Exchange is intertwined with Active Directory. Without knowing all the implications of performing the various tasks outlined in the book, it can be detrimental to a company.

Handy reference no Exchange Administrator should be without
Clear. Concise. Encyclopedic in scope. This "Pocket" book is designed to serve as a reference checklist for common and not so common procedural tasks. Utilizing this reference, most folk will be able to get Exchange up and running smoothly in minimum time. As with most of his other "Pocket" references, Mr. Stanek does a very thorough job of documenting tasks in a highly organized manner. You will get more out of this book in a few days than you will combing the newsgroups for months. I keep this book in my ready bag at all times so as to have it always at hand. This is a book you will find yourself referring to on a daily basis. With Amazon dropping the price by 30%, it is a deal that cannot be beat! I highly recommend it.

10,000 foot view only
This is a very general, high level view. Very thin book. Not a lot of meat.

Very Concise and Easy to Follow
I like this book. It is very readable, concise, practical and easy to follow. The author has done an excellent work to put this vast field of legal and technical knowlege into a very readable form for average reader in business and management.

For every CIO, VP, IT's & VP, HR's bookshelf. Recommended.

Alot of great ideas on protecting your e-mail....
I purchased this book after my e-mail and web browser were getting hack attacks. The information in this book gave me alot of tools on how to plug up vulnerable points in my Outlook program, Outlook express and all other popular e-mail programs as well as web browser Active X and Java attacks and instant messenger attacks. It also goes into how the hackers get into your system and what the code looks like and how to search for it on your computer if they are stored on your hard drive. Very good book, I highly recommend it!

Full Coverage of all aspects of email related issues
This book is amazing, covering all aspects of email related issues and the ways to deal with. I pretty much enjoyed reading the chapter on web-based mail issues, which drives me to use hushmail than yahoo or hotmail.

Very Nice Job
Picked this up a week or so ago, and have found myself referring to it on a number of occasions. The overall treatment is nice, as it delves into things needed for both the home user and email admin. I've especially enjoyed (and found useful) the chapters on Securing Win2K Server and Securing Red Hat Linux for email services.

There is a lot of Jabber documentation out there
I have read some of this book and I don't like it that much. I personally feel the author spends too much time with things that are pretty easy to compress.
Looking backwards I think the Jabber documentation is enough to write an IM client. I wrote one for alarming purposes. This is the first edition and the book has plenty of errors in the text. ( The code samples seem to be O.K.). Obviously the author was so busy pushing out his book that he didn't let anyone proofread it.

I would recommend to buy another book ( there are plenty ) or rely on the Jabber documentation and the plenty of samples the web has to offer.

Superb guide to Jabber development
Highly recommended for any developer with some Java experience who is interested in IM technology. Iain Shigeoka takes you through the background of the technology, and then takes you through an easy to follow guide to produce a fully working Jabber server and test client. The book also includes a very usefull reference section and stresses important issues relating to the technology. I have personally found this book invaluable whilst producing a Jabber framework as part of my dissertation, and has given me direction to further my knowledge in this area, buy the book!:)

Excellant and Informative book
Instant Messaging in Java is an excellant and informative book for all levels of programmers. If you are new to IM and would like a book that will catapult you into to this technology, this is the book for you. The program examples are easy to follow for if you have java experience. Also if you are an experiened programmer planning to implement production code the insights gained from this book are invaluable. Mr. Shigeoka has done an excellent job of stressing the Jabber protocols yet using java's multi-platform capabilities. Highly recommended!

Wishing for Wings
9-year-old Andrea is a bird lover who wants to fly, so when she sees an ad in the back of her comic book promising working wings, she orders them. She assembles the wings and glues them on her back, and can't get them off. She only tells her brother Jim, her parents are gone and she doesn't trust her Aunt Bets. After drinking some "Areo-Joy Juice, her wings become more powerful and she can actually fly with them. She practices flying for about a week in secret, when she begins to notice some strange things about her body. She calls the man who makes the wings for help, and decides to see him in his office. But things don't turn out quite the way she expects, and she realizes how she has been trapped...
This was a pretty good book. I liked it when I was much younger, though. I think that it is a book for young children, but is still pretty interesting in one afternoon.

The Best Book I Ever Read
This is my favorite book because I love birds and I wish I could fly. Andrea is a lot like me. I think she is a very intelligent and enthusiastic kid. Just like me. Her brother is the only one who knows her secret. I think you should read it if you like birds or flying or if you like fun.The author, Beatrice Gormley, is a very good author and I love her books. I hope this helps you figure out what book to get when you are at the library.

Kafka-esque
When I first read this book, I was surprised, because it isn't the same sort of fluff that children's, especially girls books usually are. Imagine my surprise when, much later, I read Kafka's Metamorphosis, and found that the comic book that the girl found the advertisment in was the same story! Then, when I began to think about it more, I saw that the whole story is based on Metamorphosis, sort of. Especially towards the end, when the main character begins to find herself becomming more and more bird-like, and is less and less in control. If you have ever read Metamorphosis, read this book to see what I mean. If you have ever read this book, and you are over age 15, try reading Kafka's Metamorphosis and you'll see what I mean. Enjoy.

Simple; to the point
This book is very thin, but don't let that throw you. The examples are easy to follow, and very concise. I just wish that there was a .NET version available.

Excellent Book
Excellent Book. All the code works. The only gripe I have is it doesn't tell you where to find the dlls.

Very useful reference
For the size of this book, it does a good job of covering the MAPI/CDO (both Win32 API and ActiveX) objects at an intermediate-programmer level - presenting the objects and object models with enough information that you can begin to use them right away, but not getting so technical that you lose interest or begin to only understand the minority of what you are reading.

The author does include sample code for most of the objects that are covered, although many of those sample codes are spread out over a page or more and separated by paragraphs of explanatory text which can cause a little delay for readers that skim, or jump directly to topics, as back-tracking is often needed to find the start of the desired code. The publisher's web site does provide a download for some of the sample code - but the download only includes the full projects the book goes into, and not most of the smaller projects or snippets used in the bulk of the book.

I did find that the author had included many unnecessary screenshots for a book aimed at intermediate to advanced programmers; it was also frustrating that many of the screenshots the author choose were of related topics but only used to explain how to 'point-and-click' through making settings changes, rather than how to perform the task programmatically. One such example is the Mail control panel applet, where the author showed how to add an information provider to the selected user's profile (in the book's case the Personal Address Book service was added) but did not cover how to do it through programming. In fact, it was never mentioned if the task could even be performed programmatically.

Overall, the book is a great reference for MAPI/CDO objects and will come in very handy for anyone needing to generically access the common e-mail functions and folders (inbox, calendar, contacts, etc.) quickly.

Good for first timers
This book provided help to many of my friends and family who are new to computers, especially Outlook. However, this particular Quick Course book was limited to the most basic and some intermediate levels of Outlook.

First book I have finished for Outlook 2000
Easy to read, great examples, and covers alot of detail in a relatively short period of time. Highly recommended! First Outlook 2000 book that I finished reading. Most others are tailored for people using Exchange. This one tells you to skip the following if you don't have Exchange.

Very Useful
I picked up this book "on sale" thinking it would eventually be useful. It turned out I needed it almost immediately to prepare some high-priority training presentations.

I'd used PowerPoint before to do some presentations for school but hadn't used any of the really cool useful features because I didn't know they existed. The importance of this work-related project motivated me to sit down and work through the entire book. I was impressed with how fast it moves from one useful topic to the next. It took me two days (part-time) to get all the way through the book but an inspired reader could do it in a day. By the end of the book I'd learned enough to complete the training presentation project very successfully.

I typically hate application instruction books because they are usually so patronizing. But this one is definitely useful and easy to read. I'm now interested in checking out more titles in Microsoft's "Quick Course" book series.
