Dingley Falls
Published in Paperback by Washington Square Press (1994)
Author: Michael Malone
Amazon base price: $10.00
Used price: $2.99
Average review score:

Excellent Read
This book compares favorably to The Shipping News and should have had more press. It is a delightful tale of a town through the eyes of the current generation and the woes of the previous one. The slimy and the sublime coexist in the small town that sits next to disaster and eats with it, drinks with it and revels in its lunacy. The watershed that feeds this lunacy could well be said to play a major role in its fabulous tale. Malone has done an excellent job.

Good if you know nothing about direct mail
If you know nothing about direct mail, and you need to know something, this is a great book. You won't learn to be a direct mail genius from this book, but you'll get the basics. If you are a product manager who needs to generate leads for your sales force, work with a direct mail agency or firm because they are experts. However, if you read this book first, you'll understand what they are doing and why it is a good or bad idea.

Javad Saffarzadeh has done an impeccable job of producing an outstanding series of computer instruction books, particularly Introduction to PC and Windows. We're convinced he has captured all the basics for beginners. The Teacher Talking texts should make the best seller list in no time. Again, we commend Mr. Saffarzadeh and those who were instrumental in preparing this outstanding three-book spiral series ... A great read!

I Have What You Sent Last E-mail
Browsers, e-mail programs, or online services turn out even E-MAIL FOR DUMMIES. But they might hit electronic snags: updates might be stored like files so channels missing updates while the computer is disconnected might freeze or lock the screen by updating with the reconnection. There might be online rush hours and waiting lines: conferencing goes faster with the less error-checking ASCII text files and slower with executable and image binary files. Computer glitches might hold up messages between different systems. There might also be a lack of privacy: employers might read messages without employees agreeing or knowing and without breaking any laws. There might even be a lack of security: Active X controls might interact with the Active X support feature in a web browser to locate and upload financial information from a computer. Messages might be intercepted while passing through multiuser and network-connected computers without firewalls and randomly selected private and public keys or pass phrases or words; or while printing to remote laser printers. Messages might not delete because they copy across computers and might end up archived on computer backup tapes. Authors John R Levine et al lead readers through the obstacle course and on to David Ebner's THE TIGHTWAD'S GUIDE TO FREE E-MAIL AND OTHER COOL INTERNET STUFF and David Wood's PROGRAMMING INTERNET E-MAIL.

You've Got Mail from God!!!
Less than three hours after accepting Christ, I found this book. Perfect timing. Over the next year or so, I read one of these e-mails each morning after I parked at work.

My well-worn copy has dozens of pages folded down. Cloniger has a tough task... taking God's timeless message from the Bible and presenting it in e-mail format. But generally, he pulls it off.

Highly recommended.

The third book in the thrilling P.C. Hawke Mysteries series.
P.C. and Mac are thrilled when Mac's dad invites them to join him on a business trip in Monaco, where he will be a speaker at the International Psychiatric Association Conference. They spend the beginning of their trip having fun: seeing the sites, relaxing on the beach, and eating at cafes. But their vacation fun is interrupted when Harriet Epstein-Hopper, who is also attending the conference, is murdered, apparently by a vicious serial killer known as Cyrano. Even though Mac's father warns them not to get involved, P.C. and Mac can't help themselves. Along with Juliette, the inspector's daughter, they determine to find out who really is responsible. Anyone who enjoyed the first two P.C. Hawke Mysteries is sure to like this one as well.
